Yello Damian, am afraid @fkj950ax isn't entirely wrong as your intention to school was not made known during your interview. You deciding to change status just like that after visiting is part of the reasons the USCIS still considers Nigerians as high risk when it comes to returning to their countries. It's a pretty straightforward process. Get your brother or sister that is a citizen to fill and i-130 form for ya and file for you. However, do note that it's category 4 and usually takes years before your case can be reached or if you are lucky and your petition gets moved to process centres like Potomac,Nevada etc but not California.
