Ibime: There are two possible outcomes for this apocalypse. The US/EU will help the Nigerian Army to keep it barely tolerable to ensure the refugee count is low enough to keep their local population happy OR the NCOs in the army will join this thing and burn this country to the ground. I mean all of it I still wonder how on earth this country is meant to be viable when it encourages overpopulation and has refused to even increase its oil production (since it has chosen to be anti all other forms of govt. revenue). 300 million people sharing 2.3 mbpd @ $55/barrel at some point will not be a pretty time to be resident in Nigeria 1 Like |

holocron: Really, people drive cars without steering wheels or working suspensions, so they can without a thermostat. It does not stop the car from coming on like the absence of a steering wheel (a set of pliers will do the job). The problem here is that you don't actually understand how it works. Like I wrote earlier, a radiator's function is to reduce the temperature of the water in the engine with the help of the fan. It is the water that actually prevents the engine from overheating NOT the fan, radiator or thermostat. Fans can't keep the engine running at a fixed temperature! A thermostat is a piece of metal that expands when heated and is usually connected to a switch of some sort. Every appliance that requires a specific temperature range to perform optimally has a thermostat (fridge, AC, electric iron and car engines). It has nothing to with the ambient temperature. So once the engine gets too hot, the thermostat expands and opens the access for cold water to enter the engine block and this removes the boiling water and sends that to the radiator for cooling. when the temperature drops, the metal shrinks and the access is shut. this repeated movement over time will make it go bad. This is noticeable in the used cars we buy in Nigeria. If it goes bad in an open position, the car will never overheat but will have the problems the original post carried. Sadly, it usually goes bad in closed position because it is a spring and we park cars longer than we drive them and the over heating problems start! why don't you remove the thermostat from your electric iron and use a bucket of water to keep the base from burning your clothes? That is exactly what you do when you remove the thermostat from a car. 3 Likes |

antifreeze lowers the freezing point of the water in the radiator and has nothing to do with cooling. I can drive a car without a steering wheel and that doesn't mean I should do so |
Car Talk / Re: You Should Never Remove Your Car Thermostat To Avoid Overheating. by ow11(m): 8:47am On Feb 25, 2018 |
adecz: 1. The temperature in 'oyibo climate mimics African climate' for three months every year 2. Engines run around 90 degrees C which is twice as hot as the hottest ambient temperature in Nigeria 3. A Thermostat's role is to ensure the temperature of the running engine is constant for optimal performance. Any less and there will be noticeable problems like described in the original post. 4. If your car is overheating, the thermostat needs replacement not removal 5. You should have paid attention in Integrated Science class 8 Likes |

Terrible Original post riddled with condensation. Especially as the poster purposefully chose to misspell the ex-minister's name. It is sad that some Nigerians (including some members of the new government) still continue in the triumphalism- read bigotry, buck passing -read incompetence and dishonesty we have practised to full effect since 1966 with the hope that the results would be different Abeg let me go and put on my generator! Obiagu1: You need to re-read Pazienza's post, understand his point of view and you would see the need to modify your stance. Consultation is the key to success and not confrontation or bullying. You are offering an option and the onus is on you to sell that option and not the reverse. Pazienza has told you something critical. If you have an idea, you have to sell the idea and not bully anyone to take your idea. I wonder if people would drink coca-cola if they are told in clear terms that they are stupid if they drank Pepsi or Dr Pepper. Also, you are not being blunt, rather you are condescending and insulting and not driving home the point which is 'Positives of joining Biafra'. You are hiding behind the theme to make unsavoury remarks about a group of people and that my brother is the definition of bigotry. A movement like this usually succeeds through outright violence and subjugation (this was tried in 1967 and has shown to be a futile path) or through consultation and strategic alliance. Which for some reason you think is weakness or not up for consideration while hoping that a repeat of the 1967 bullying and gloating tact will somehow succeed. There is also another angle that has not been explored and that is support from the NC zone. The zone has strong potentials that can be unleashed in a true federal state and can be allies in this attempt to secede. 4 Likes 1 Share |
Politics / Re: Case Study(south Sudan) by ow11(m): 7:21am On Oct 29, 2015 |
The thread title is nice but the author's premise is disappointing. There are many reasons to believe Biafran independence is a bad idea but using South Sudan as a reason is not a good one. Let me give you a few reasons, For a start the new Biafran borders haven't even been agreed upon by supporters. Then, actual consultation hasn't even been done by anyone to actually see through a successful secession and no one has actually talked about how the Biafran government actually hopes to secede and deal with 'Biafrans' in other parts of Nigeria. The call should been seen by all as a move for greater stake in Nigeria rather than a secession call which has not been properly articulated. If this move will make the FG stop playing politics with infrastructure in the SE then I would consider it a victory! and everyone should be happy. Nnamdi Kanu's just repeating tired cliches and bigoted statements about non-Igbos (including supposed future citizens of Biafra) and can't possibly be taken as a serious method of creating a country. Just for some clarity, South Sudan has been at war for over 35 years with the North. It is a desperate place with very low HDI. Building a new country takes time (Nigeria hasn't even begun after 55 years) and it took a 30 year war for the marginalisation/genocide of the South Sudanese for a cease fire with the North to happen. However, after 18 months of internal South Sudanese fighting, the belligerents are talking. Now that is progress! No Nigerian region has seen what the South Sudanese have been through (an entire generation lost). The country would solve these squabbles when they realise a victory would be pyrrhic. That is what happens when equally matched adversaries meet on a battle field. 1 Like |
Culture / Re: The Various Dialects Of The Urhobo Language And Where They Are Spoken by ow11(m): 8:02am On Oct 21, 2015 |
fratermathy: A lot of respondents on this thread conflate Language with ethnicity. They have failed to realise at our own level that two groups of people can speak the same language but be culturally different. I like this distinction, I hope it clarifies your point to a lot of people and help others understand that speaking the same language doesn't make you the same. I haven't heard anyone insist that since Nigerians and Ghanaians speak English, they are English! 1 Like |
Agriculture / Re: Dinosaurs Bones Found In Bonny Island? by ow11(m): 10:46am On Jul 20, 2015 |
Those are most likely bones of a beached Whale rather than a dinosaur fossil. The Niger delta formed in the Paleocene (just after the dinosaurs died out) and the rocks of that age are at least 10 km deep in the Bonny area. There are NO outcrops to find such bones on the surface in such a preserved form. |

Politics / Re: Why Is South-south Often Referred To As 'the East'? by ow11(m): 12:53pm On Mar 15, 2015 |
Again see Nigerians abusing each other over silly titles. Eastern Nigeria using Abuja as the centre is Old Gongola state! The important thing missing from this argument is that respondents have left out the second bit of the term 'geo-political'. The South-South is a misnomer geographically just like the term that gives it a name. It was coined for that reason. Maybe it should have been called just South or more aptly ''South-South East & South West'' since it is geographically south of the south west zone and south of the south east zone. It is as silly as the old Mid-West Region or even Middle East. Can anything be in the Middle of the East geographically? These are all 'geo-political' terms and whatever silly name we assign to them is valid in the context of the second bit of the name (i.e. political). However, the thread starter was concerned about a double standard in naming which I don't think exists because it is valid to call PH an Eastern HQ since some people would be talking in terms of actual geographical location of the operational bases of their businesses relative to one another and the 'geo-political' zones are just that and not actual regions with a government. I am sure if they eventually become administrative regions, they would all have proper names (e.g. Oodua, Biafra, Delta, Sahel, Savanna and Iullumedden) rendering this argument moot. 3 Likes 3 Shares |

For those students, professional beggars and 'help me pay my rent' commentators, Nigeria is not a tax free country... VAT is 5% on every consumable and people who work for government and private establishments pay an effective tax of around 15% for those than earn around 1.2m per annum. In civilized countries, taxes are used to support the vulnerable in the society and people hardly see a need to make welfare phone calls to benefactors for basic necessities. In Nigeria, if a civil servant computes how much his net pay comes to after paying the 'small PAYE tax' , welfare handouts and payments for a dysfunctional state( generator, broken down car due to bad roads, shake down by government agents and black market fuel), he might not have up to 30% of the salary to take care of his needs and that of his nuclear family. Given the options available to tax payers in a civilized society, it is a good idea to want to relocate especially if one seeks to live in peace and make a honest wage. For those that want to join the hammer line, of course they won't want to but will still have their babies abroad and send them to school abroad while ranting about how terrible the racist foreign countries are and how amazing living in Nigeria is. 5 Likes |

Culture / Re: Are Africans Wicked, Ignorant And Vindictive? by ow11(m): 12:25pm On Oct 07, 2014 |
Dear OP, Vasco da Gama met black Africa in the mid 15th century. The conqistadors hit the Americas in the mid 15th century so why do you think it took the Europeans 200 years to begin the trans-atlantic slave trade? I would agree that Africans (including you if you are African) are ignorant about a lot of things but wicked and vindictive?? We do not come close to the wicked Europeans (fought each other for 1000 years and physically brutalised non Europeans for 500 years) and vindictive Semitic peoples (Fighting wars since 2000 BC till date). Rwandans killed each other in bitter ethnic violence recent history (around 20 years ago) and have largely moved on whilst we just finished another round of Arab/Israeli war. I can't think of any other examples of peoples with a lot of forgiveness in their hearts like Africans. Social engineering can do a lot of things. A good example can be seen in this illustration: In one generation, we have seen where travelling Nigerians get lost and are housed and fed by strangers and sent on their way the next morning to people speeding past dying accident victims. If 70s Nigerians can care for strangers and 21st century Nigerians can't, you can't say Nigerians are wicked! because the people that cared for strangers are still Nigerians There has to be a reason why the behaviour changed and that should be your focus and not the people. |

Keshi is trying really hard to ensure that the eagles miss the trip to Morocco next year...I'd love him to succeed so we can get a new coach and finally see the back of Egwuekwe , Agbim , Efe Ambrose at RB and 4-3-3. NFF needs to scout for dual nationality players in Europe and help Joel Obi, Kenneth Omeruo, Leon Balogun, Sunday Mba and Kelechi Iheanacho get new agents that can negotiate good clubs for them. At the moment, German, Italian and Dutch mid table clubs would do... 10 Likes 1 Share |
