Katsumoto: APC simply becomes PDP extension. Old wine in new bottle or same shiit, different day.I wonder how Nairaland resident APC squealer 'Gbawe' will see this comment! Or would he become the new sincere9gerian if APC does indeed kick Jonathan out of office? These party sympathisers just make me laugh. They spend all day trying to show that their sh*t doesn't smell as bad as the other's. |
^^^^ Definitely NOT the minister. The minister in any system of government is akin to a foreman. A foreman is neither the architect nor building engineer nor owner of the building. The people to push for policy change are a. THE MASSES and to a lesser extent the aviation stakeholders (airline operators, travel agents and even hotels). The policy is espoused by the party that would appoint or nominate a minister. A minister by default would not want to rock the boat and go against party policies. We can wager that it is the intention of the PDP to use the revenue from the NCAA to buy armoured cars for the minister; whether that minister is Oduah or Demuren is not relevant. I will concede that the minister can suggest a policy change in a sector but that is not a primary task and as such will usually not happen especially in our climes. It makes some sense to appoint someone with a working knowledge of that sector but it is not a major criteria as you are suggesting for sanitizing the sector. funkybaby: And who do you think understands and knows the best policies for this sector other than aviation professionals themselvesAirline owners, operators and staff. |
^^^ This is you assuming the minister actually has the powers to establish fees, regulations and issue fines and sanctions in the industry. I do not think the minister does but even if she does, why would she want to change them? Why would a competent professional want to change it? Love for you and I? You already mentioned that Demuren got complacent yet still feel that a competent aviation professional will somehow not get complacent as minister. A minster's job is overseeing the implementation of the policies of the government of the day in line with the ruling party ideology. Now if the aviation policy in place (excessive taxes and multiple fees) is draconian and horrible, the minister will implement these policies even if she is a competent aviation professional. Until we begin to look at existing policies and structures, changing personalities will not do much. Barth Nnaji was a competent professional who went about implementing current government policy and even after his sack, and replacement with a slightly less competent fellow, the NIPP work is still going on. There is a reason why you turn up at work everyday and actually do your job and it has nothing to do with competence. The day the reason can no longer be justified, even the most competent fellow will stay at home. |
funkybaby: very interesting article.Demuren was a competent aviation professional and the airspace was still unsafe. Personalities in a rotten system can not do much. We need to merge some of these agencies and pass a law like an 'aviation act of 2013' which will outline the rules of operating an aircraft in Nigeria and also encourage smaller airlines to do business and remain safe. |
Actually A lot of people will blame the current minister for this but I want to hold off this and ask a few questions 1. Isn't this the job of the national assembly to make laws which would include Tax breaks for these airlines? 2. What exactly is the job description of an aviation minister? 3. Why aren't the airline owners and staff not lobbying the legislooters to at least debate this? I feel a lot of Nigerians including educated folk have no idea how our government work. We need to look beyond personalities and start to build a system. Most people are quick to state that USA,UK and so on have a system that works but when we talk about Nigeria, the gist turns and becomes a finger pointing exercise based on personalities. Even the current minister would like to work with a system that can allow her steal as much as she CAN whilst ensuring the safety of the lives of Nigerians. With that, I would think flying Nigerians and airline staff/owners should begin to lobby their looters to at least remove certain payments and reward 'safe' airlines like arik and aero with slightly larger tax breaks which will be renewed annually. |
emiye: You are so annoyingFree the agbero! Do you not know that road construction is so highly specialised that only the trained can have ANY idea of what the black stuff and stone-like objects are. We are all expected to look in awe and admire the wonderful geniuses who manipulate black goo and pebbles that allow our cars drive on without bouncing from side to side. All hail our engineering genius @alpontif. His knowledge on road construction is as vast as the observable universe as even the task in itself makes brain surgery look like counting 1 to 10 on an abacus. what a tool! |
From my point of view, It doesn't look like as complicated as some of the other examples shared. I am quite certain that the OP will not work for a brewery, piggery or vineyard. So he should steer clear of a commercial bank. It is quite unfair that a lot of Nigerians hated the idea of an Islamic bank. As an aside, Do Muslims generally use current accounts in our banks? |
RIP! No one seems to know what ailment it is that took away this young man. I wonder why Nigerians prefer to not disclose type of ailment. Is this dude related to the great 3SC attacking midfielder David Ogaga of their 1996 Champions Cup run? |
pro01: Good, but can you tell us WHY it is convenient for Shekau and ALL other terrorists to hide their "utter lack of empathy" under Islam? Why Islam? Why ALWAYS Islam?Assume you were living in the middle East in the 12th century and every now and again, marauding hordes of horsemen come riding in and leaving dead bodies in their wake. Their reason? Cleansing the HOLY land! Assume you lived in Amalek in the 9th Century BC and some men come rushing in and kill every one in your village including goats and chickens. Their reason? God told them to Assume you were living in a village in Uganda in 1990 and a group of men come rushing through, Kill all the men and rape the women. Their reason? They need to establish the Ten commandments as the sole law in Uganda. Assume you live in Sierra Leone in 1996, Some men come to your village and chops up everyone's hand. Their reason? Why did you guys vote? Assume you lived in a tiny village in what is now Mexico in the 16th century. One day a group of men come killing and plundering. Their reason? You guys worship the wrong god and we need your gold/'riches'. Are we going to blame Christianity, Judaism, Democracy and Capitalism for these murders? OR do you see how humans would readily use anything as an excuse to KILL! Today, it is Islam and you can scream yourself hoarse and even ban Islam if you can but without a different ideology and a desire to cull murderous psychopaths, mass murders will not end! So to answer your question, Islam has a message that is convenient to fill their urge just like Ateke and Asari turned a turf war into a fight for self-determination because it was a convenient message people can relate to. Sort of a way to buy some sympathy and not come across as murderous thugs that they actually are! |
Why is all this noise coming in almost 2 yrs before the elections. The government is almost at standstill whilst they and the foolish masses are talking about who would win an election some of their unreasonable selves will not live to see. Rather than task the government on sorting out current issues that exist today, People are writing long epistles on silly sectional politics devoid of any meaningful purpose to enhance the lives of Nigerians |
Actually, humans that enjoy seeing other humans suffer and die have always existed from the dawn of time (or should I say since humans began to live in communities). Someone can even argue that religious folk who speak with glee at the thought of watching their adulterous neighbours and friends burn in hot flames whilst drenched in undiluted sulphuric acid forever and ever are cut from the same stock. I digress. . . Back to the topic, now Shekau and people like him have always been with us. The only difference is that Shekau has managed to refine his methods and kill on a much larger scale. He is a psychopath and through no fault of his, is unable to show empathy. He just has an idea that is convenient to hide his utter lack of empathy under (Islam). Even if Shekau becomes born again tomorrow, he would still kill people. Rather than insult the religion, society should fight the idea of murder justification with better ideas and alternatives whilst those humans unfortunate enough to be born with a faulty anterior insular cortex be culled and put in homes before they learn to use a weapon. |
The need to attach random gory pictures to any news item is very annoying.Tomorrow when another accident occurs with casualties, another reetard will paste this same picture and lazy hacks will start soppy sympathies. That aside, When is Mrs Oduah going to lose her job? She has presided over two crashes under 20 months between them and when would an aviation minister's job security be tied to the non-occurrence of a plane crash? Nigeria! shuffering and shmiling!! |
Ikenna94: It is a known Factor that many football players of Nigeria origin have been refusing the opportunity to play for Nigeria, whereas they will even beg to play for Foreign Countries for free.I am thinking they did as they represented their country of birth. I am not sure it is fair to call them unpatriotic as each case should be individually judged. These guys were taught and raised to play football in their country of birth which in some cases is the country of their mother and in other extreme cases (Ross Barkley) never really knew their father. People like Sidney Sam are the unfair ones, flirting with Nigeria to get a German call-up. The problem with nationalistic people like you in this increasing global world is the definition of ones origins or in Nigeria, one's ethnic group. The ease of migration and inter marriage has thrown up a lot of new issues that a simple Nigerian surname does not mean said fellow is Nigerian. Like someone earlier said, Alaba doesn't speak English like our friend Sidney Sam. They do not understand the Nigerian culture and for all intents and purposes are not even Nigerians bar their surname. They do not even play football like Nigerians and who knows may actually disrupt team harmony. Victor Moses grew up in Nigeria and lived amongst Nigerians in London and understands Nigeria unlike Alaba, Sam or Barkley that would be literally out of place in the Super Eagles dressing room. |
Ivory Coast have a chance if Cameroun loses their mojo and one more Nigerian breaks a leg |
I noticed the team always finish strongly. The team is very fit and should pick up a medal at this tournament. The main contenders are Angola and Tunisia but since Tunisia has gone home, maybe Egypt. |
@OP Emotional Maturity is governed by perception! Except an adult behaves like a toddler and can't control his bowels, I believe we are all mature. Those people that can't string five sentences without throwing in 'maturity' are elitists who try to belittle others. Women are the worst culprits! You are also right, the gift buying fellow is usually the more mature one in the eyes of the hungry lasses out there |
At some point in history, the various have happened - Translate the Bible to other languages (incl English) from Latin which invented words like Jehovah and Passover which before then had never been used or heard - Printing copies so that the common man can have it as opposed to writing by hand - Binding said printed copies with leather backs or cardboard backs - Making smaller copies and many translations after the discovery of the dead sea scrolls - Standalone electronic bibles - Advent of touch screen devices that hold various translations of the bible --- Possible Instant view on a hologram in 3D or perhaps dramatisation of every word as you read it or as you think it all in 3D. All these changes were and will be rejected by conservative people and accepted by liberal people as they happen(ed) but in the end everyone will accept it. William Tyndale tried to translate the Bible to English from Latin and died for it but some years after his death everyone including perhaps the descendants of those that burnt him read the bible in English. As long as those who for personal reasons see everything wrong with e-bibles do not try to strangle and burn those who read e-bibles,and they do is complain and sneer then that should be fine. Their children however, WILL disappoint them. As a note, I suspect churches will start to ban these devices since they all have recordable functions which is surely bad for business. CD sales will go down if they do not nip this in the bud as these devices get cheaper and cheaper. |
Bitter old man! He should ask his saintly government to apologise for colonisation and refund all the goods carted away to build the empire. These things can be used to fund our own NHS, Rail network and Benefits programme whilst our elites steal the oil money like his beloved ROYAL FAMILY does |
If Soludo wins, one of his first targets must be figuring out a way to put all those shops that litter Onitsha into Malls and enforce cleanliness. No one should be allowed to bring wooden tables to sell groceries or hang items outside their shop/store. Anambra leads the way and if this can be done in Onitsha, then other states will copy. Orient Petroleum's blocks is a bit far from the ocean and the oil and gas should be consumed by Anambra. I believe this possible. He should forget about building new cities and focus on repairing the old lest the habits that made the old too bad will affect the new. I dream of the day Onitsha would be the go to place for shopping in Nigeria where one can shop in clean malls and take the evening train to Owerri or PHC without getting scared of encountering robbers |
dasparrow: You are preaching to the choir. The average Nigerian will never understand that. Nigerians live in a robotic society where everyone is expected to think the same, act the same and have the same destiny and dreams. At the moment, I know several Nigerian women who are married and with kids and who neglected their kids. Yet they expect the children to take care of them once they are old. What an irony! You couldn't be more spot on! This lazy thought process where everything that is different is from hell or should be burnt, killed or insulted is so frustrating. No curiosity to understand why the difference even exists! Some one on here even suggested that people should only get married if they intend to have kids since the fellow has concluded that marriage should only exist for the purposes of procreation. |
With his wide nostrils that can be used to replace Lagos/Ibadan expressway, he could've sniffed for much better news or gossip to write than 'outing' a man based on circumstantial evidence. |
Good analysis, but the senate and House of Rep can also pass it into law that no one needs to state his or her date of birth when applying for a position in any company or parastatal. Doing so will mean running foul of the law.
Will work in the short term but since companies will want to employ much younger staff for a lot of reasons at graduate entry, the net effect would be marginal. The companies would need birth dates for insurance reasons. Isn't it better to get dropped off at the early stages than actually pass all interviews and fail a medical? |
Well NNPC, a government agency is guilty of this crime and that says a lot if you intend to sue in a Nigerian court. However, other private firms like KPMG have run foul of this law and suing them abroad can cause a change. However, I would be surprised if this will do much because all the company can do is open a recruitment portal, ask all applicants to apply there and simply delete all applications with undesired birth dates. To prove you were discriminated based on age in a court of law is difficult at graduate entry except there is insider help which is also unlikely. Therefore, whilst I think this is a good move, I also feel it's effect would be pointless. |
Gani Fawehinmi (Amazing guy!) Aminu Kano (If only the average Northerner listened to him . .) Wole Soyinka (Nobel Winner) Aliko Dangote (Business man employing thousands of Nigerians) Chinua Achebe (acclaimed writer) |
Please all women avoid worldly things like jewellery (ear rings and bracelets) so that you can enjoy worldly things like jewellery (crowns) when you die even though the very streets will be made up of the same material you would wear on your head! Frankly I wonder why they do not wear clothes made out of tar and sand ![]() |
PointB: @bolded, Actually you got it the other way round. The writer started by characterizing Africans before bringing in PJ. In his view Patience Jonathan behave the way she does simply because she is African. I understand clearly you don't subscribe to such uncharitable characterization of Africans, I only wanted to bring it to your attention that if you say the writer is 'spot on' in his analysis and reasons, you indirectly agree with his views of Africans - as such was the foundation of his write-up.Very well. . . |
PointB: Sounds like double speak to me.He explained her behaviour and attributed it to a reaction to the innate self awareness issues ALL humans have. That is where my agreement with his postulation ends! He later extrapolated that behaviour to be the natural reaction of an African (went off the rails with IQ tests and agbada) which I do not agree with as even the writer is African and is clearly able to react to his self awareness in a totally different way. You are trying to rule a line once again when it comes to human behaviour and yes I can pick and choose what part of a text I agree with and what I do not. This is not O level maths where an agreement with the answer to a question implies an agreement to the stated principle. We can go even further to painfully dissect his speech and say that there clearly exists a stereotypical 'African' way of handling self awareness (that way has been ascribed to Africans but does not include all Africans as Roman emperors showed that same behaviour). We could very well give it another name (Megalomania) and those that react to self awareness by showing said traits can be ascribed as such. His hurried approach to equate this behaviour to or call it African is where I disagree with him. |
PointB: Ultimately, the crux of the article is about the 'inferior Africans', exemplified by the number of times Africans was used in the discourse. PJ was just used as an example, unless you didn't quite understand the writer's point of view.Maybe it had two meanings. I can't deny his self-loathing but he was spot-on on her excesses and the reasons behind it. I quite agree with him given her loud mien even when the travails of her predecessor still lingers in recent memory leaves a lot to be desired about her thought process or those around her. However, extrapolating it to all Africans was too simplistic and downright insulting. We may be ruled by megalomaniacs and buffoons but the regular African is far more decent than the western stereotype which Mr Osuji has bought hook, line and sinker tries to sell. |
As Ajanlekoko alluded to on one thread, the African cultural method of frowning/discouraging deductive reasoning seems to be our bane. We think with our emotions and have neither the patience nor the will power to deal with truths and cause/effect. PEJ is repeating Turai's behaviour and somehow believes (emotionally) that she wouldn't be a non-entity in a few years time. Quite amazing given that she was very close to the action when Turai pranced around Aso rock with a false sense of superiority. I diasagree with Osuji on some points especially the IQ bits but he gave his message raw and unfiltered (very un African ) and as usual, people with no ability to discount the raised points DerideGull: Like I told him in Portland, Oregon, Ozodi Osuji is an ill-educated numbskull. He is the only man who claims to know more than next door neighbor yet he does not understand the nuisances of his last name.attack the messenger. Cowardly and Childish! |
thegoodjoehunt: Westerhof never stopped building. He kept on inviting players to the camp to make sure that he always had the best players. That was how players like Oliseh, Okocha, Amuneke, Ikpeba and many more were called up even though we had a top class team already.Exactly! After AFCON 1994, Westerhoff dropped Ugbade (against popular demand), Semitoje and Fuludu and invited clubless Nwanu and Ezeugo. You can never stop building. Italy stopped building after 2006 world cup and failed to get out of their group in 2010! Spain won the Euros in 2008 with Senna as DM and 2012 with Busquets as DM. Abeg people should leave Keshi alone, If Gambo had torn the Spanish net now all their mouth for quiet! Oliseh has still not mentioned the names he wants to play for the SE. European football is a lot faster than it was in the 90s and so it was easier for them to leave Nigeria and walk into the first team in Belgium. With the super athletes these clubs are training at youth level, unless something happens to youth development in our country, we would continue to breed players for Ukrainian and Russian leagues and fail badly even with overaged players at youth tournaments. |
