Ethnic alliance seems to be the mantra yet again. Three years away from an election, we are not holding the current government to account but postulating for the next election. Politicians just exist for elections in this country. With the masive insecurity that has escalated in the last 5 years, the party in power should not be allowed to field candidates |
The utterances from our public officials show that compassion has long left these people's hearts. They have no decorum when they talk to the press. I am pretty sure this is because no one actually holds them responsible for all their careless talk. First it was GEJ telling us to get used to be bombs and then this buffoon telling us that it serves the fans right. What a douchebag! |

D sage: Sagamite, honestly u're a disgrace to d black race.If u dont kno somtin,u beta shut up&learn more.Nobody says western education is totally bad,i was jst tryn to let u kno d negative effect/impact it brought on our people.I'm an educationist, thinkn in d same way while in school some yrs back but when i took more research, particularly abt Africans in their primitive society,i discovered they'd everytin i stated in my previour comment. You are not making any point! Besides being alien to our culture which you have agreed is dynamic and thus prone to change, Why shouldn't unclaimed corpses be burnt and dispersed into the sea? A question to guide your thought process: Did Africans keep corpses in refridgerators or stuffed them full of formalin before Burial Pre-1900s? |
^^^ Why did Europeans stop having an average of 9-12 kids as recent as 100 years go? Was it through jingles and fear mongering? |
Kobojunkie: You are assuming there is enough tax, and oil money to go around, to take care of it all then?Lagos state gets an average of $800m in IGR annually. This is from an underdeveloped economy. This is also from taxes of major companies and middle to upper class income taxes. The informal economy employs a vast majority of Nigerians and these people do not pay any form of taxes to the government. If they pay any taxes, it is to the pockets of the stoogies of the politicians. Taking your simple maths, no one is not denying that we need to cut growth rate by at least 50%. However, Dividing 167 into 10 groups can stimulate the individuals to work because if 3 out of the 167 have access to that $100, they may not have $33 if put into the a new sub-group of 16.7 and $10 will not be enough to fund their vulgar lifestyle. Southern Nigeria needs to a break from this sharing arrangement and such a stimulation can't happen unless there's a break from the past. Which is why breaking up and not fancy jingles or condom sharing or just plainly reciting fearful rhetoric will solve the 'not so grangantuan' problem this article tries to paint it as. |
What exactly are they exposing? Everyone knows that GEJ is a fraudulent C-in-C and is unwilling to stop the current plundering of our nation's resources by him and his cronies/allies. So let them tell us what we don't know OR why they haven't succeeded in proving that Mr Okah is innocent of the crimes he is accused of. |
I agree with PhysicsQED. . .The numbers are alarming if you look at the figures (180million) and visit Lagos from Arizona. Smaller countries wouldn't make the problem go away but it wouldn't be so alarming and an Industrialised nation of ~70 million people (Southern Nigeria) wouldn't have lack of opportunities. Schools and hospitals only need to be built with taxes and oil money and not stolen. The universities can open up more campuses or something. Besides an industrialised economy would need a lot of artisans (vocational schools) and so university spaces may still not be too cramped. |
Dede1: You have foolishly written what Biafrans such as MASSOB and reasonable Igbo people are trying very hard to achieve. It is a needed situation where the so-called Nigeria or Oodua or Arewa and Biafra would live side by side while building their countries. Nigeria/Biafra war was not a war of independence but separation of nation states1. You are right about the Tutsis however, the war isn't being used as a rallying point 2. I wrote about the Algerian war to highlight the indifference younger Algerians have towards the French that many years ago were enemies and committed atrocities. 3. MASSOB is fighting a just cause if they highlight the travails of the average Igbo man and they do and I would prefer to see threads talking about strategies to either tip the power balance towards the SE or a new country but goodness me, rehashing misdeeds about the war is not necessary and can increase animosity and bitterness. |
Rwanda is the only sub saharan country that will achieve their MDGs by 2015. They wouldn't be achieving that If their ordinary folk( from where the leaders actually come from) are bent on getting a payback from the Hutu dominated government. OR basically writing blogs and sharing videos and pictures of the violence as displayed by many Nigerians that are stuck in 1970. Bosnia-Herzegovina has a growing economy but is still very poor (like ours) but they are only planning to hold a memorial and not sharing violent pictures and videos or asking for a retribution. The muslims, croats and serbs are in the government together building the country. The youths go to school together and the younger generation (which you are supposed to belong to in our own case) do not talk about the war as passionate and bitter as you do. Check http://www.dw.de/dw/article/0,,15862279,00.html Algeria suffered a lot during their war of independence as did many Libyans but the only generation which hold some form of bitterness towards the French or Italians are those that fought or lived through the war. The youths aren't even interested (Hell even Zidane played football for France). No one is saying the Igbos didn't get a raw deal before, during and the immediate aftermath of the war but given the circumstances, It would do all of us a big favour if our generation try to solve our inherited problems and leave the war bitterness for old men in the village to talk about in with anger, disappointment or some glorious battle victories. |
Good Heavens! What a bunch of whiny bitter posters we have on NL. . . . ![]() Wars have been fought throughout the ages, Countries have been destroyed and innocent lives lost but the difference between those nationals and the OP is that many have moved on. I can even wager that the OP was born after 1970 but he is so bitter about something he never experienced and is determined to keep re-opening that wound till thy kingdom come. The Bosnian Muslims and Croats have moved on, The Tutsis have moved on after only 18 years but 42 years later someone is opening a thread asking for retribution and to moan and whine about a sad part of our national history. @afam4eva, You need to get over this war. Discuss current national politics or something else. I still believe Nigerians will be better off if this nation divded into bits but come on, this latching onto a bloody horrible war that killed millions 42 years ago is not a way to start. ![]() |
A lot of Africans nay Nigerians can't comprehend disbelief in a spiritual world. We are so close minded to consider any possibility of options besides...God, Devil or Neither God nor Devil. Not everything on earth is Boolean. OP, Ignore your husband. If your husband can be an atheist with religious parents, why do you think your children will be Christians just because both of you are? Both of you have the responsibility to tell your children your beliefs and let them choose what they think is appropriate for them. |
I don't know why we Africans are intent on staying in European contraptions. We have existed for thousands of years in our Kingdoms doing no worse than our European contemporaries until the last 100 years. Where we have spent most of our time fighting senseless tribal wars and spewing hate instead of remaining or resorting to our previous kingdoms and focus our energies on harnessing our potentials. I support this Tuareg movement and I suggest most West and Central African countries need to split along ethnic lines until we find economic stability then we can do the AU a la EU thing. The Tuaregs are marginalised and have barely seen any form of government presence for a very long time. Ethiopia, Sudan and now Mali. One day Nigeria, DRC, Somalia and even Senegal would split to form working countries. We are fiercely tribal and this indirect rule by the Europeans certainly cemented it. They have made us love our ethnic origins even more as evidenced by many of the NL respondents who open silly threads glorifying a kinsman's achievement as a reason why their tribe is superior. That sentiment is shared by a majority of Africans. That superiority complex should be channeled to National supremacy where it would be beneficial as opposed to the current situation where it causes nepotism, poverty and conflict. |
El Guapo: God Bless You -- Hope they Understand! To put it even better, ''A bad boy with the fear of the Lord'' |
Can someone enlighten me on how this is meant to be a political discussion. >: This first bank drama is caused by people like the OP; Inept and careless! |
Stealing away people's future. Some people are callous. They should be thrown in jail for the rest of their mean lives |
A reformed player is an Ideal/dream partner to many Nigerian women ![]() |
I think the big corporations hold the industries but the small businesses and contractors creates the middle class which is usually a sign of economic boom. Nigerian economy needs Shell/Agip + say GE or EDF to power this country. The energy will drive businesses like welding, small scale manufacturing (shoes, note books, textile, pens, processed food) etc. These smaller businesses wil absorb the graduates because Shell/Agip/GE can only employ a handful. |
^^^ Seems like you already have an answer to your question. Personally, I think every drowning incident can be explained. Did any of the afore mentioned dead swimmers wear a flotation device and still drowned? I would like to see a river which 'claims' victims yearly claim someone wearing a life jacket properly. |
C'mon Ailton and the Charalamwhatcamacallit are a notch better than the rest of the team. However, I agree they are based on strong work ethic but some players would leave in the summer. I seriously doubt that minnows in Europe would begin to play high tempo games and this would somehow begin to trump talent. All elite clubs will just wake up and force talented players to be super athletes (C. Ronaldo) and it is back to business as usual. |
NRI PRIEST: @ow11, criticising all the time and not commending for a job well done so far will not help!! Dont european based players score own-goal ? And am not sure Rising star and Sunshine are owned by same person.. Our league players are improving but they need support and good management. You failed to read and understand the first and third paragraphs of my entry before reaching to reply isn't it? Now who is looking like the unrepentant critic?? Rising stars and Sunshine stars are owned and financed by the Ondo state government since your bumbling self failed to notice. . By what indices did you use to declare that Nigerian players are improving? Do you have any stats? or have you watched enough games before you decided that? I say they are still very poor as evidenced in a game where all five goals where from defensive errors and not any tactical or individual brilliance OR the Akwa united V 3SC game where chances went abegging which btw is a common occurence in our league grounds if you bother to actually watch these games. Also with improved pitches, officiating, exposure and renumeration, players have been unable to produce what Nigerian players in the 90s did. Gone are the days where our local players can leave Sharks and Heartland and sign for Ajax. What we see are mediocre transfers to Sudan, Vietnam, Malta, Greece, Poland, Bulgaria and Moldova. |
I watched the highlights of the Heartland/Enyimba game on Naija made (Which btw, I think is doing a good job in promoting the league) and the goals were mainly caused by defensive errors. Nigeria national team will suffer for many more years as it seems our defenders these days have zero tactical awareness and still play football like we're in the 80s. Little wonder only our strikers play for elite teams in Europe today. The one-nil scoreline prevelant in our league games is due to poor marksmanship rather than defensive prowess. An average tactically sound striker (Jude Aneke, Ahmed Musa) can easily hit 20 goals in the league. After many years of trials, We now have good stadia, live games, improved officiating BUT rubbish players and violence. When league teams begin to feature young local players with good tactical awareness and hoodlums are kept away from the stadium, then Nigerians would begin to flock the stadium to see games. One more thing, Can the NPL ban the single ownership of two clubs in the same league? Dolphin/Sharks, Rising/Sunshine stars etc. . .Those games can never be derby games! Following this, I quite agree with @Mutu Ya Chuma! State ownership isn't a very good model |
![]() The other day on the TV i watched one of those quack herbal doctors show off a machine that he 'invented' that supposedly 'extracts all the toxins from the blood' by massaging your feet. Simpletons like bittyend are the dumbasses keeping these quacks in business. ![]() |
They are just Dynamo Kyiv of the late 90s. Massive summer sales this year would balance out this anomaly ![]() |
Many of you people are gong ho about oil blocks located miles and miles away from the shores of Nigeria. How such asset is located in ND is beyond comprehension.
Why isn't Niger Republic claiming access to those blocks? Since we are the FEDERAL republic of Nigeria. . . Those Generals have built corrupt empires out of opportunism and laziness. They just steal and build golden mansions and impoverish Nigerians. The vampires can't run NGOs to help educate their neigbours about birth control and proper education to make them relevant in the 21st century world. They instead steal, steal, intimidate and create monsters like religious riots, armed robbery, kidnapping and other vices Nigerians have since learned because of the unfair advantage these ex-soldiers have in our economy. IN reality when Nigerians hate on the north, It is actually these ex-Generals and not that aboki that is trying to make a living by selling a tray of kolanut on the streets of Lagos. |
Since GEJ is begging Shell to build refineries, Let him beg Malcolm Brinded to take over his job. If Shell no wan build refineries, let other 'foreign' downstream companies come in as Shell and others have done with the sole purpose of building refineries.Since January, GEJ and his phat goons in the NASS have remained silent on the 'amazing PIB' that is meant to solve all our woes. Any one supporting GEJ on this topic is NOT intelligent. |
^^^ ROTFL @ Topic The writer was a bit sensational with his figures. However, these northern masses need to attack their leaders. . . * GEJ still hasn't fixed the only Federal road in his home state. 2015 would be very interesting indeed! |
Major causes of car accidents in Descending order 1. Overspeeding 2. Driving under the Influence(DUI) 3. Bad roads + Over speeding 4. Poor road lighting at night 5. uncertified drivers 6. Government security agents driving badly 7. Loss of concentration ( Incl. Mobile phone usage and talking) 8. Mechanical failure of the car (Incl. tyre wear and other non-human faults) The Government can really help with enforcing DUI laws, fixing street lights and ensuring only certified drivers ply the road. However, the love for driving at insane speeds + mobile phone usage will continue to cause deaths as many people do not believe over speeding is very dangerous. |
I like the List. . . .I hope Mikel Obi never comes back ![]() Keshi, please remember Valentine Nwabili, Fengor Ogude, Nosa Igiebor, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Jude Aneke and Ekhigo Ehiosun. . . The SE is still hunting for a decent RB, CB and AM . . . . Any suggestions for Keshi and co? |
ifyegede:There are no professional certification qualifications in the Geosciences per se (unless you would consider an MSc as one). However, some organisations run short courses on non-geology but oil industry related techniques like HSE. These certifications would NOT give you an advantage if you intend to have a career as a geoscientist BUT could be helpful in seeking related jobs in the oil/gas industry. The choice is yours . . . . Check out www.nebosh.org.uk for HSE certifications and you can also google BOSIET for training centres available in Nigeria. |
@Sagamite Well he made a point that Obi did a decent job for the Eagles. Now whether Obi's performance lifted the Eagles overall performance by 1% or 50% is another gist. He only made that point to argue for a bench warmer can do a decent job for the National Team. As far as we all know Joel Obi did a better job in the SE midfield than Etuhu ever did. He probably does have a problem with comprehension or maybe I put in my own interpretation into his own statements but being surplus to requirements (according to his wikipedia page/ News reports at the time) at a particular point does mean that the club have players they think are better and can afford to let you go. In Ayew's case, they sent him out on loan and He showed his stuff. I felt he made two points 1. Bench Warmers can do well for national team ( He gave an example that was OK but could have given better ones like Klose, Heskey, Abidal(2008) and Podolski). 2. A club can let a player go because they do not think he is good enough and he can go on and do very well in a new environment ( He used Ayew where He could have mentioned Bergkamp, Henry and even Osaze) You made one point 1. Rabiu is an old washed up midfielder. I can trash his two points and believe you can also do same. For a fair Judge, I think he was leading but his examples didn't quite buttress the points he was making which makes your accusations about his intellect apt. You can give us more points on why you think Rabiu is not good enough besides his old age. |
Sagamite:Well Obi did play a few more games after his debut. Really?Actually, It was a combo of the stint in Lorient and Arles. He was deemed surplus to requirement at some point when Marseille went on a buying spree. The same player that Arsenal wanted to buy for £5m after his first year was a player "saving" his career in Marseille?I must've misread his quote. I hope Ibrahim finds his mojo at celtic ![]() |
