It has been overly repeated that the Idoma people of Benue State are a nation blessed in every facet of life; the birthplace of Generals, the land of great sport men and women, the nation of famous celebrities, the tribe of professors. Also with the humongous number of men and women of God springing from Enochi to Enone to Apa/Agatu, Idomaland can also be called "The land of Yahuwah's Chosen ones". Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been warned to steer clear of Benue State. This followed the recent threat by Kanu to send ESN members to protect Igbo people living in Benue. Kanu identified Ado and Oju Local Government Areas as places that need the presence of ESN. In his reaction, Ado Local Government admonished Kanu to stop dragging Benue into “his self-seeking campaign”. The Chairman, James Oche, told reporters on Saturday that the territorial integrity of the state would never be a subject of Biafra agitation. He cautioned proponents of Kanu’s “inordinate ideology” in Benue to desist or face the wrath of the law. On the IPOB leader’s comment about the “abduction” of 3 people, Oche clarified that they were arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly Fulani man, Mohammed Isa. “It was an act that threatened the security of the area and made the Deputy Governor summon a meeting that was held yesterday in Makurdi with all concerned stakeholders. “Kanu reportedly issued statements charging Benue Governor to protect ‘IPOB communities’ or he would send Eastern Security Network operatives to do so. He should stop insulting the sensibilities of Benue people.” The LG boss assured that Governor Samuel Ortom was doing his best in terms of security. By Franklin Onwubiko It was celebration galore in Ebenebe town in Awka North Local Government Area, Anambra state following the donation of 2-bedroom bungalow to widow, Mrs. Philomena Ubaka, a widow by a philanthropist, Mr. Arnold Chukwuebuka Ekweoba. Mrs. Ubaka had until now been living with her children in a deplorable thatched hut until hope shone on her in 2017 when an NGO, ‘Restore a Radiant Smile Foundation’ met with her in one of their outreaches. Handing over the key to Mrs. Ubaka on Friday, the benefactor and CEO, Arnold and Associates, a Real estate and construction firm, revealed that he had never met the woman until the day of the handover. In his words, “A Foundation approached me with the woman’s story sometime last year. I was moved to tears and instantly ministered to by the Holy Spirit to become an instrument of joy to this unknown woman. Immediately, I accepted the request and approved the construction of a befitting two-bedroom bungalow for the woman and her children. “What we are doing here today is a divine call. I derive motivation in impacting lives positively. I have never met this family in my life and I’m grateful to God for using me to elevate their standard of living. Like I said earlier, this is a divine mandate and as the spirit directs, we would continue replicating these humanitarian efforts”. Earlier in his remark during a courtesy call at his palace, the traditional ruler of Ebenebe Community, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Chris Emeka Nnaegbuna, described the benefactor’s gesture as uncommon. While appreciating Mr. Ekweoba, Igwe Nnaegbuna prayed to God to bless and elevate him to enviable heights. The visibly elated Mrs. Ubaka was drowned in tears of joy as she danced alongside friends and well-wishers. Speaking to the Press, the widow who was dumbfounded showered praises and blessings on Mr. Ekweoba. “Today, I strongly re-affirm my belief in God. No time is late for God to bless anybody. Today, I am a living witness of God’s Miracle. I am short of words and all I can say is that God who remembers the widow will never forsake Mr. Arnold, his friends, and family.” Also speaking, the facilitator of the project and partner with the ‘Restore a Radiant Smile Foundation’, Mr. Victor Ugwoegbu described the day’s event as fulfilling. According to him, “My partner, Mr. Victor Chinyeaka, and I were moved to tears seeing the deplorable state of the woman’s shelter during one of our outreaches in the state in 2017. We couldn’t believe that a human being will be sheltered in such a place. We didn’t have the wherewithal but we prayed God to grant us the opportunity to bring succor to this woman and her family. It became a burden and in mid-2020, I approached Mr. Arnold with the request and he instantly assured me that he would take up the project. Barely six months down the line, here we are. I cannot thank the benefactor enough. He is a young man whose love for humanity is unparalleled. I remain grateful and loyal to him”. In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Umudiaba Kindred, Umuajana Village, Ebenebe, Mr. Maxwell Nnamso, and the widow’s son, Arinze Ubaka expressed gratitude to Mr. Ekweoba for becoming an instrument of God’s blessing to the family. The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has said it would send its soldiers to protect their kinsmen and kinswomen in Benue State. Leader of the outlawed group, Nnamdi Kanu said the decision became imperative following the worsening insecurity situation in the state. IDOMA VOICE recalls that Dr. Terkula Suswam, a prominent politician and business man was recently assassinated in his home. Kanu said if the killing continues, he would have no choice than too deploy operatives of Eastern Security Network, ESN, to the state. The IPOB leader in a statement by spokesman of IPOB , Emma Powerful said."It has become very imperative that we the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, bring to the attention of Gov. Samuel Ortom of Benue State how Fulani terrorists masquerading as herdsmen are terrorizing Igbo communities in his state. The unprovoked genocidal attacks by these murderous bands have intensified in the last one week. "The world has to be aware of this atrocity which has persisted obviously because the Governor failed to rise to his responsibility of protecting lives and property of these innocent Igbo communities in his state. "Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom must take responsibility for securing these communities or IPOB would move in our gallant Eastern Security Network, ESN operatives to do the needful. "For weeks now the people are being terrorized by hooded Fulani military men on evil mission. "We can never allow Fulani terrorists to decimate any Biafran community. We will no longer tolerate any unprovoked attack against our people irrespective of where they reside. Gov. Ortom must act now or ESN will rise to the occasion! ESN will launch a serious operation to chase the killer Fulani out of Benue if Gov Samuel Ortom cannot protect Igbo Biafrans living in Benue. "The Benue government must as a matter of urgency ensure that the Chief of Ataloga and others abducted are released , and no harm befalls them , otherwise, ESN will unleash its venon in the state against the Fulani. "Based on our findings, the worst hit of Fulani herdsmen attack is Ataloga community where men in military uniform kidnapped three innocent locals. The victims include Chief of the community, Mazi Boniface; IPOB Coordinator and the youth leader of Ndigwe community. Others including Chief Simon Nweke from Ndiighe in Ado LGA; and Patrick Nweke, Youth President of Ndiighe in Ado LGA. "Other Igbo villages under siege now in Izi, Oju LGA of Benue State are: Edele village, Ogbala Izi village, Onyenu village, Obokata village, Ekpuphu village and Idele Izi village. Michael Blessed, a young printer from Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State has been stabbed to death by unknown gunmen. IDOMA VOICE gathered that the young man was murdered on Thursday night by unknown gunmen around Cedi Plaza, Central Area, Abuja, on his way from work. Michael, a source told IDOMA VOICE was working for a man at UTC, Area 10 but got a contract and rented a shop close to the man, a development that has since stirred a bad blood between them. A close friend told IDOMA VOICE that the young printer was on his way home around 9pm when he was accosted by some persons who stabbed him several times on his neck. “He was on call when they attacked him and he only managed to inform the girl on the other end of the phone about the attack. The attackers fled the scene immediately they stabbed him and left the young man in the pool of his blood. “When we got to the scene, he was already unconscious, before we got to the hospital, he gave up the ghost. He is currently in the mortuary in Mararaba,” the source who gave his name as Adoyi, said. Asked what step has been taken to investigate what led to his murder, the young man said the family had concluded plan with the police to invite his estranged boss for interrogation. Former spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brig Gen SK Usman (rtd) said he is spending his weekend with snakes. Although, the retired soldier did not give details of the location, but he shared pictures of his timeout with the reptiles on Facebook with the caption: “What a pleasure to spend a weekend playing with snakes.” In the pictures sighted by IDOMA VOICE, Usman was seen grabbing a boa from the tail while a young man, believed to be an attendant held the head of the reptile. The Centre for Anti-Corruption and Social Justice, CACSJ, has described the nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa, as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as one of the best decisions taken so far by the current government. Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had forwarded the name of Bawa, 40, a certified fraud examiner to the Senate for confirmation as the boss of the anti-graft agency. The centre said the appointment of Bawa is a round peg in a round hole, considering the antecedents of the youthful crime buster. Addressing newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday, Coordinator of the group, Femi Stephen, said the Bawa’s appointment is a testament to the fact that President Buhari is keen on crushing corruption, which has eaten deep into the system. He said, “We at the Centre for Anti-Corruption and Social Justice, CACSJ, an umbrella body of over 20 civil society organisations wish to thank President Muhammadu Buhari over the nomination of Abdulrasheed Bawa as chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. “You could recall that this coalition had sometime in 2019 shortly after the reelection of President Buhari, called on the federal government on the need to up its game in the fight against corruption ravaging the nation’s economy. “We had equally called on the president to appoint a youth to pilot the affairs of the anti-graft agency. “Today, we are happy that the president heeded to our calls and that of other well-meaning Nigerians by nominating not just a youth, but a renowned crime fighter of international repute. “This is a clear indication that the APC-led government in keen on purging the system of every corrupt element.” The group expressed confidence on Bawa, considering his past records in crime bursting. It added that the young man had fought and won many battles in the commission not minding who ox is gored. He said, “With Bawa as head of the EFCC, Nigerians can be rest assured that every penny stolen by anybody irrespective of his/her status or connection must be recovered. “He’s a tested and trusted Nigerian who has proven his mettle in anti-corruption war and with his experience, sanity will return to the system in no distant time.” The centre also called on the senate not to delay in confirming Bawa as the new EFCC chairman so he could hit the ground running. “We are calling on members of the Red Chamber of the national assembly to do the needful by confirming the nomination of Bawa as the head of the anti-graft agency. “We also call on all Nigerians to join hands with the EFCC and the incoming leadership to win this war against the deadly virus called corruption.” Bawa, a native of Kebbi State holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics and Masters Degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy. Rev Fr Joachim Makama, a pioneer Teacher of Our lady of Fatima, and Pioneer member of St Dominics Catholic Basilica Ungwan Pama is dead. IDOMA VOICE gathered that the priest died in a fatal accident after his vevilce had a head-on collision with a truck. His death came barely one month after Rev Fr Vincent Tanko of Ankwa Parish died in a terrible accieent. It was gathered that Makama just resumed at his new station on the 5th of December in Gumel as a School Administrator before he was crushed to death. Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has slammed Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, for allegedly forcing Buhari on Nigerians in 2015. According to Kanu, Soyinka was among those who campaigned vigorously for the enthronement of Buhari in 2015. Recall that suspected herdsmen last week invaded his house and ate up his vegetables. Reacting, Kanu said people like Soyinka have been preaching one Nigeria and he’s now feeling the heat. “What did Soyinka say? He said the war has come to worst. People don’t actually think properly, Soyinka is among the defenders of one Nigeria. He spoke during an interactive section on Radio Biafra last night. “It was Syoinka that helped to bring Buhari into power in the first place. When we were telling him, he was busy speaking grammar. He was speaking English. After all the grammar, what happened? The war came to worst. Behind his big grammar is emptiness. “His carrots were eaten up by Fulani cattle and he’s busy lamenting that they brought the war to his house. “When he woke up and discovered that Fulani cattle have eaten his carrots and garbage, he started lamenting. A female Student of Benue State University identified as Jessica Agee was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at her Gyado villa residence in Makurdi last night. IDOMA VOICE reports that there were gunshots in the second campus of the university while final year students were taking their last paper on Monday. According to an insider, the shooting was due to the ceasing of some exam slips belonging to suspected cultists who were taking their last paper in the Mass Communication department. The source, who also sat for the exam, said some of the cultists came from outside the school and also celebrated the graduation of their members who are mostly members of the a popular confraternity with gunshots amidst chanting of ‘orientation’. The graduating cultists, IDOMA VOICE gathered were promoted by virtue of their graduation to ‘Lords’ in the confraternity. It took the timely intervention of the men of the Nigeria police for calmness to return to the campus. But there were fears that rival cultists might later clash tonight in students’ lodges around Gyado Villa, Madam Saba, Opposite CHS, Behind Customary Court and other student dominated areas. Eventually, the crisis crossed to Gyado Villa and Jessica was killed. Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has stated that Fulani are hell bent on wiping out the entire Igbos and Yoruba from the face of earth. He recalls that the Hausa had established well organised city states before the advent of the Fulani who are not indigenous to Nigeria. According to him, the Fulanis came and made themselves Lords over the Hausas, who now work as their foot soldiers. He said he founded the Eastern Security Network to fight against the plan to annihilate Igbo people. He tweeted; The Hausa had established well organised city states before the advent of the Fulani who are not indigenous to Nigeria. These states include Katsina, Daura, Kano, Zazzau (Zaria), Biram & Gobir (now Sokoto). All of these were conquered and re-established by the Fulani as Emirates. “Today Hausas are only used as foot soldiers by their lord & new masters the Fulani tribe. The Board of Directors of Zenith Bank Plc has approved the Group Audited Consolidated & Separate Financial Statements for the year ended December 31, 2020 and the payment of a final dividend, subject to the approval of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). This was disclosed in a statement by the bank to the Nigerian Stock Exchange. According to the statement, signed by Micheal Osilama Otu, Company Secretary/General Counsel, the Board considered and approved the results at its meeting held on Thursday, January 28, 2021. Gospel music ministers from all walks from life converged on Friday at the Dunamis International Gospel Centre Glory Dome for the 2021 edition of the Nations Worship in His Presence. Nations Worship in His Presence is an annual music concert hosted by DIGC, IDOMA VOICE reports. The event, dubbed as one of the largest gospel music concerts in the country, was organized by Dr. Paul Enenche, Senior Pastor of the Church. No fewer than 13 persons, including children have been crushed to death in a terrible car accident that occurred in Ogodumu, along Otukpo-Adoka road in Benue State. The incident happened few hours ago. IDOMA VOICE gathered that an articulated truck lost control and rammed into a fully loaded bus going Abuja. Among the deceased were a mother and her three kids, between the ages of 3,5, and 7, who were traveling in the bus. Only few persons survived in the tragic accident. A young Nigerian lady has been badly brutalized for allegedly stealing an iPhone 12. IDOMA VOICE stumbled on the video of the lady, clad in a short blue gown with no pants being manhandled by angry mob online. While being beaten and kicked on the head, a voice could be heard from background saying, “you are mad. You get money. Ogun go kill your papa” while she cried and begged for mercy. IDOMA VOICE could not ascertain where and when did the incident take place but many Nigerians have frowned at the inhuman treatment meted out to the young lady whose identity is still unknown at the time of this report. Fast-rising Nollywood actor, fashion designer and model, David Mela is dead. IDOMA VOICE gathered that David died last night after battling unknown ailment. Friends of the handsome actor have flooded his social media page to wish him farewell. A quick check by IDOMA VOICE on the Facebook page of the Benue-born entertainer showed that he had in November posted that he went through hell. He didn’t give details of what he went through but his friends were sending him words of encouragements in the need not to give up. Some of his posts also suggested that he suffered betrayal by friends. He wrote, “Been through hell but I’m still here. The event took place at Palm D’or Garden, Area 11, Abuja. The traditional marriage was chaired by former Deputy Governor of Benue State, Chief Steve Lawani (OFR). As the year 2020 draws its curtain this Thursday, IDOMA VOICE takes a look at some prominent IDOMA natives who painfully went the way of all mortals. JERRY AGADA The death of former Minister of Education and chairman, Benue State Civil Service Board, Prof. Jerry Agada came to many as a rude shock. The Orokam-born writer passed away on December 21 in Makurdi after a brief illness. ONOJA PRESS Another death that shook the Idoma community in the year 2020 was the demise that of Dennis Onoja, otherwise known as Onoja Press. The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain slumped and died on March 19, after complaining of acute chest pain in Makurdi in March. INNOCENT AKAKTU In January 2020, Idoma lost one of its illustrious sons and former Comptroller, Nigeria Immigration Service, Oyo State Command, Innocent Akatu. Akatu died after battling unknown ailment. GROUP CAPTAIN SUNDAY AUDU Group Captain Sunday Audu (rtd) also passed away in the year 2020. The retired military personnel died in April to an unknown ailment. He’s from Ugboju. Until his death, Audu was a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party. ROBERT DONNY In August, former Local Government Chairman of Ogbadibo, Donny Robert died. Donny died in a hospital in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, after a protracted batted with stroke. EMMANUEL IKWULONO The Benue State Commissioner for Health and Human Resources, Dr. Emmanuel Ikwulono died in November. Ikwulono, a native of Agatu, died barely three months after his appointment from complications of surgery. AMEDU OCHOLI In October, Ahmedu Ocholi, father of dancehall king, Augustine Ahmedu, otherwise known as Blackface, bowed to his ancestors. Ocholi, a retired soldier hailed from Agatu, Benue State. TESSY OKWORI Benue-born blogger and digital marketer, Tessy Okwori, died in May. Tessy is the younger sister of now retired singer, Imelda J passed after a brief ailment. She hailed from Ojigo in Okpokwu LGA. JULIANA EKELE Juliana Ekele, famously known as Mama G died in April. She was former Benue State House of Assembly aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC in 2019 general election. INNOCENT AMEDU Respected cleric, Rev. Innocent Amedu went to meet with his Lord in March. INSPECTOR ZAYNAB ABBAH Inspector Zaynab Abbah, a policewoman, who serving in Port Harcourt, Rivers State was killed by robbers in November. Abbah, a native of Ogbadibo, was shot dead by men of the underworld while returning from work. DOMINIC OCHEIM OMAKONDO Renowned philanthropist and business mogul, Chief Dominic Ocheim Omakondo, also died this year. Chief Omakondo, Known as Adaki K’Idoma one of Anambra and the Omelora of Enugwu-Ukwu na Umu Nri Clan, died at the age of 86 and was laid to rest on Thursday, October 1, in his country home, Adoka area of Benue State. Sunday Adakole Ada, a staff of the Nigeria Civil Defense and Security Corps, who allegedly killed two youths in Otukpo on Christmas Day, has opened up. IDOMA VOICE reports that the security personnel, who was not part of the show, had killed one Jennifer Robert and a young man whose identity could not be ascertained at the moment. Speaking after his arrest, the suspect who is currently in custody, said he was only trying to warm the air. He said, "I was only on patrol with my team when I decided to warm the air. "After that, I was told one person died and one other injured.
