Susan Idoko-Okpe, the alleged coronavirus index case in Benue State has been discharged from isolation centre. This came barely 24 hours after her children had called on the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC), to release their mum. Sahara Reporters claims that Mrs. Idoko was released from the Abuja isolation center after 54 days of ”unjust quarantine on Wednesday evening.’ She was earlier held in Makurdi, Benue State capital, but due to her outcry, she was later moved to Abuja where she was isolated. Mrs. Okpe was held behind closed-door for 54 days after it was reported that she had contracted the deadly virus. She returned from the United Kingdom to attend the burial of her mother in Otukpa before she was whisked away to isolation centre by the state government. However, despite not taking any medication, the UK-returnee was still hale and hearty until her freedom on Wednesday night. Susan, who is a younger sister to Steve Lawani, former Deputy Governor of Benue State, had accused the Idoma community of abandoning her. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97YI1aieCPA

The Dunamis International Gospel Centre, DIGC, has once again extended its helping hands to the society as the effects of the coronavirus lockdown continue to bite harder on the people. This is the fourth time the ministry would be embarking another humanitarian feeding gesture since the lockdown order was announced due to the coronavirus pandemic. Barely two weeks after donating food items and other relief materials to cushion the effects of the lockdown on members of the church and residents of the Federal Capital Territory, the ministry on Friday at the Dunamis Lord’s Garden, distributed the relief materials to people irrespective of religion or denomination under the supervision of the Senior Pastors, Dr. Paul and Dr. Mrs. Becky Enenche. IDOMA VOICE recalls that the church had distributed preventive kits and other medical materials to the Federal Capital Territory Authority and AMAC Clinic as parts of its support to the fight against the disease. Speaking during the outreach, the Senior Pastor of DIGC, Dr. Paul Enenche, said the gesture was not done to prove any point or make a show but to meet the desperate needs of the people at this critical time. He said, “This is the fourth time we are doing in this season to cushion the effect of COVID-19 and we will continue to do more as the Lord strengthens us. Please, note that this is NOT an attempt to make a show or prove a point but to meet the desperate needs of the people, to shine the light and glorify our Father in Heaven. (Matt. 5:16). Be encouraged to do same to the extent of your capacity. God bless you.” On her part, Dr. Becky Enenche urged the people to not to give up as the coronavirus scourge would soon be a thing of the past. “Whatever we are going through at this critical time should not make us give up. Like we sang in our latest song, “Keep Holding on, your victory is here”, we believe strongly that our victory over this plague of coronavirus ravaging our nation and the rest of the world will soon be history. “Let us continue to hope in God and observe all the precautionary measures and the Lord will help us.” Among items distributed were: thousands of smaller kg bags rice, bags of beans, tubers of yam, bags of orange, and mangos. Others included: crates of eggs, cried fish, fresh fish, cooking oil and other items. Here are pictures from the outreach. For the third time since the beginning of the lockdown announced by the federal government to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country, Dunamis International Gospel Centre has donated food items to its members and other people to cushion the effect of the stay-at-home order. Distributing the third batch of the items on Wednesday at Dunamis Lord’s Garden, Airport Road Abuja, the Senior Pastors of DIGC, Dr. Paul and Dr. Mrs. Becky-Paul Enenche, admitted that they were not unaware of the effect of the ongoing lockdown on residents of the federal capital and other parts of the country. The clerics said the gesture was done reach out to those who could not afford food items amid the pandemic. The 30 doctors allegedly sacked by the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi displayed their sack letters earlier today Wednesday, as they called on the state Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom to intervene. In a press briefing with newsmen, the President of the Association of Resident Doctors in the institution said about 32 of their members were sacked by the management. According to her, the sack was not in accordance with the laws regulating Residency Training in Nigeria. She dispelled the statement of the hospital management who said they had not domesticated the Residency Training law in the hospital, hence were took their actions based on the hospital policy. The President said, "The Medical Residency Training Act (MRTA) was passed by the national assembly in 2017. A year later, it was signed into law by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari. "The Act regulates Residency Training in institutions anywhere in Nigeria and Benue State University Teaching Hospital is in Nigeria and ought to abide by the law". She called on the Benue State Governor, Dr Samuel Ortom to intervene in order to avert crisis in the health sector of the state. "We are, again, appealing to the amiable Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency Dr Samuel Ortom and all other well-meaning sons and daughters of Benue State to prevail on the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital to obey the law, in order to avert a crisis in the health sector of the state." Efforts to get access to the Chief Medical Director, Prof Terrumun Swende proved abortive. A source confirmed that he was in a closed meeting with the Governor over the matter and could not respond to calls and messages. http://www.idomavoice.com/2020/04/30-benue-doctors-display-sack-letters-seek-governors-interventionphotos.html

Amid the cononavirus pandemic, the Benue State Government has laid off 30 residents doctors in the state. This was confirmed in a statement by Association Of Resident Doctors (ARD), Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Makurdi on Monday and obtained by Idoma Voice. The statement jointly signed by Dr Amina Japheth Onyewuchi and Dr Sesugh Matthew Iorfa, President, anx PRO, ARD BSUTH, gave the statement 21-day ultimatum to reverse the sack or face total shutdown. The statement reads. 1. It has become important to brief you on the developments in this teaching hospital especially as it concerns us, members of the Association of Resident Doctors. 2. The world is at a standstill today as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. World over, countries are putting together measures to ensure that they are ready to fight the pandemic. Due to the way the disease is transmitted, people are advised to stay at home. Governments have shutdown public places, markets, offices and schools in order to curtail this virus. 3. On the other hand, while everywhere is being shut down, the hospitals have remained open and health workers mobilised to care for sick people during this period. Due to the seriousness of the situation, retired doctors have been forced out of retirement to return to work, to save humanity. 4. It is however unfortunate that rather than put these measures in place like in other places, the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital, is rather sacking medical doctors. Not just doctors but some of her more experienced hands. 5. The management has given over 30 doctors sack letters; have rescinded some letters and have also upheld others in a haphazard and subjective manner that doesn't not just follow the laws regulating the service of resident doctors in Nigeria, but is also a disservice to the suffering people of Benue State. 6. The training of resident doctors in Nigeria is regulated by the 2017 medical residency training act (MRTA) which is very explicit of how a doctor should enter and leave residency training. The Act allows resident doctors to train and pass all exams over an eight and half to nine year period as against the six years that the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital wants to impose on resident doctors here. 7. The Act also empowers the National Postgraduate Medical College (NPMCN) as the only body who can recommend resident doctors for exit from the residency program on the grounds of duration. The NPMCN sends the names of resident doctors due to exit the training every six months to training institutions. Their last of such letters was on the 10th of March, 2020 and none of the residents in Benue State University Teaching Hospital was listed for exit. Where then is the management getting the powers to sack resident doctors? 8. If there was any doubt, the management of BSUTH should borrow a leaf from her sister health institution, Federal Medical Centre Makurdi where the 2017 MRTA has been adopted is being used. No resident doctor who has spent less than eight years has been sacked. Of course, the NPMCN will not recommend such residents for exit. 9. Many of the doctors being told their time has expired have not been sent by the management for mandatory postings they are to undergo before completing their programs. This, the management blames on the gross shortage of doctors in this hospital. Our doctors have their training stagnated (some for over 3 years) by the management, only to be issued sack letters that their time is done, when it was the fault of the management who refused to release them for those postings. 10. Also, management have refused to take into account the periods when some departments did not have/ lost accreditation and resident doctors were not able to go for exams. All the lost time, the management has factored into their purported six year residency program. 11. Additionally, the sponsorship of resident doctors for update courses and exams has been ignored by the management of BSUTH, leaving resident doctors to their fate. The last time a resident doctor was given full sponsorship in this hospital was 5 years ago. 12. We have approached the management severally over this issue to no avail. We made a presentation to the hospital board, making an argument for the adoption and full implementation of the 2017 MRTA as obtainable everywhere else in Nigeria but fell on deaf ears. 13. We have co-opted the State Chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), BSUTH to intervene in the issue to avert crisis, especially at these times, however their effort is yet to yield fruit. 14. We sought the attention of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Tony Ijohor who had mediated between the association and the state government in other issues. We are yet to see the effect of his intervention. 15. We have sought unsuccessfully to get the attention of the Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Dr Samuel Ortom who, we believe, has the best interest of the health sector and indeed doctors at heart. 16. Our parent body, the Nigeria Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has written to the Chief Medical Director, Professor Terrumun Swende, to reconsider their stand as it is not in accordance with the existing laws regulating the residency program in Nigeria, but there was no response. 17. This issue has dragged on for a long time, and we have written several letters to this effect and have also given ultimatum in the past concerning this matter. We are now left with no choice than to consider downing tools, however as it is our custom, we have the Benue people at heart. 18. It will interest you to know that during the escalated Herdsmen killings of 2017/2018, while other health workers in the state were on a two-year long strike, our members stayed behind to work all through that period in order to save the lives of the Benue people. We have been pivotal in the treatment of IDPs and victims of disasters like the gas explosions in Ushongo and Gwer local government areas of the state. 19. It is in the interest of Benue people, especially in the face of the Coronavirus pandemic, that we have decided against the immediate commencement of an industrial action even though this matter warrants it. We have rather chosen to give a 21 day ultimatum, after which we will have no choice than to opt for an indefinite strike action. 20. Arising from an emergency congress meeting this Monday morning, 6th April 2020, our demands have not changed. They are: The immediate withdrawal of sack letters issued resident doctors and reinstatement of those already sacked; The adoption and full implementation of the 2017 MRTA as currently obtainable in training institutions across Nigeria. 21. It is our belief that within these 21 days of our ultimatum, the amiable Executive Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom; His Royal Majesty, the Tor Tiv V, Orchiviligh Professor J. O. Ayatse, the Och'Idoma His Royal Highness, Agabaidu Elias Ikoyi Obekpa, and all other well-meaning sons and daughters of Benue State will prevail on the management of Benue State University Teaching Hospital to yield to these demands, in the interest of residency training, the medical profession and the healthcare of our people. Thank you very much Long live ARD, BSUTH Long live NARD Long live BSUTH Long live Benue state

It is necessary for us to offer clarification on the rationale behind the conduct of the Sunday service of Sunday, 22nd March, 2020 in the light of the current event in our land – COVID-19. After due consultations at the highest level in the FCT, the leadership of CAN concluded that since it was impossible to stop people from coming to church on Sunday, 22nd March, 2020 due to inadequate awareness, ignorance and a host of other reasons; and the more difficult task of sending them back home after they had come to church, it was agreed that that Sunday be used for high level sensitization, awareness drive and admonition regarding compliance with government directives. For this reason, the service was held, not as a regular one, but as a sensitization and awareness service to inform the people about the directives of the government and also enlighten them on health and safety measures as prescribed by experts globally. The Senior Pastor even had to change the message earlier prepared for that Sunday to the one that suitably addressed the situation, and all the branches of the church were instructed to comply with the order in their various countries and states. In addition to the aforementioned, it is important to note that at a time like this, apart from the spread of the virus, the spread of fear could also have equally deadly and devastating effect on the people. The need for hope cannot be over-emphasized. As a faith-based organization, we find it necessary to instill hope, faith and equanimity in the people by offering scriptural words of encouragement and praying for them. Leaving them in the lurch without properly addressing and guiding them would do more harm than good. Our responsibility, both to the congregation and our nation behooves us to adequately prepare the people in every way for the days ahead. And that was what we did. We are on the same page with the government to do all that is necessary to prevent this pandemic from ravaging our land, and every effort of the government so far in this regard is commended. Dunamis Church has always been a responsible and law-abiding corporate citizen. Beyond compliance with government initiatives and directives, we have partnered with government at various times to alleviate the sufferings of the people. The church cannot be against the very people whose lives she passionately seeks to nurture, defend and protect. Dunamis International Gospel Centre shall therefore continue to employ all necessary measures to ensure full compliance with government directives even as she prays for speedy divine intervention to heal those already infected with the virus and totally arrest further spread of it both within our nation and around the world. Again, Dunamis constructs road, renovates and installs CCTV in 32 classrooms of govt school, Kubwa, Abuja (PHOTOS) The Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC ) has continued to break new grounds and set the pace in humanitarian services and human empowerments. Just few days after commissioning the Abuja-Nasarawa boundary road, which was constructed by the church, the Senior Pastor of the DIGC, Dr. Paul Enenche and his wife, Dr. Mrs. Becky Enenche alongside other top dignitaries, on Monday commissioned some monumental projects powered by the church in Kubwa area of Abuja. The projects included the construction of the District Estate road and the renovation of Government Secondary School, Kubwa, with the Installation of CCTVs in 32 classrooms ( the first of its kind in a government school, a long time vision of the principal come to pass ) The event was witnessed by Senator Philip Aduda (FCT), senate minority whip, Hon. John Dyegh (Tarka/Gboko Federal constituency) Hon. Godday Samuel (Apa/Agatu), Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf (Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu), Hon. Micah Jiba (AMAC/Bwari) Rimande Shawulu (Takum /Donga/Ussa) Bwari local government Chairman, Hon John S Gabaya and Paramount chief of Kubwa, Bulus Yerima Pada and a host of others. Speaking during the well attended programme, which was the day 4 of the Gwarinpa, Kubwa and Bwari Crusade, Dr. Paul Enenche said, “In Acts 20:35, Paul the Apostle said he has laboured and has discovered that is more blessed to give than to receive. “There is a joy when somebody gives you something but the greatest blessing in life is the joy of giving. I have said this before that nobody knows the joy of living, until they know the joy of giving. We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give ; we make a living by what we get but make a difference by what we give. And making a difference is superior to making a living. “There are many people in this world today, who are just busy struggling to make a living. We may increase the standard of our life by what we get, but we increase the relevance of our existence by what we give. “Making meaning is superior to making money; because there are many who make money but they make no meaning. We should also note that impact is better than income. Generosity is the meaning of prosperity because prosperity without generosity equals adversity. Riches without outreach equals wretchedness. “And I think it is important for the world to know this because there are so many people who are busy trying to see what they can accumulate but they fail to understand that what we contribute is better than what we accumulate. “And I will say this finally that a life that is worth living is that life where a person's presence is felt. “We should so live, either as an individual, organization, church leader, political leader, etc, live so that your presence on earth can be felt and your absence can be noticed, because if your presence is not felt, your absence will not be noticed. And if your presence was not felt or your absence was never noticed, then your presence was never needed on earth.” The Senior Pastor also recalled how a mother of a 200-L medical student of University of Ibadan ran to him some years back crying over her inability to see the boy through higher institution. In his magnanimity, Dr. Enenche, who is also a trained medical doctor alongside his wife intervened and saw the boy through the university. Upon graduation, the young man returned with his certificate to thank him and Dr. Enenche recalled thus: “I told him that the only thank you I want from him was, go and work, pick up someone who cannot afford money to sponsor himself and train him to university level and then tell that person to train another person and let the chain continue. I believe that as the chain continues, life would be better for us. On her part, wife of the Senior Pastor, Dr. Mrs. Becky Enenche, took time to highlight some of the many projects executed by the ministry around the country. We will be giving details in another report. Speaking eelier, the Senator representing FCT, who is also the minority whip of senate, Sen. Philip Aduda, lauded the Senior Pastor and the church for always reaching out to the society through several humanitarian projects. The lawmaker specifically hailed the quality of the road construction and also prayed God to continue to uplift the church. On his part, Hon. John Dyegh, representing Tarka/Gboko federal constituency, cited other monumental projects powered by the church. The Benue lawmaker recalled that just few weeks ago, the Senior Pastor was in Mararaba area of the FCT to commission a road constructed by the church. He also noted other projects such as donation of transformers, relief materials to IDPs, empowerment of widows/orphans and less-privileged, scholarships done by the church. He thanked God for using his servants, Dr. Paul and Dr. Mrs. Becky Enenche, to put smiles on the faces of people. IDOMA VOICE recalls that this is not the first time the church would be embarking on such project. At about 10 years ago, the ministry opened up and upgraded a rural road of at about 17 km road length in Benue State. The church also built classroom blocks and renovated several schools in Benue State. Similarly, the church came to the rescue of a community in Abuja, which had never had pipe-borne water for about 200 years. During the heat of the Fulani herdsmen attack in Benue State, the church also donated trailer loads of relief materials to IDPs in Agatu and Daudu. Such gesture was extended to IDPs in Abuja and Lokoja during the flooding, which rendered several persons homeless some years back. Amazingly, every month, the church gives out empowerment/welfare outreach materials to many people; such as industrial ovens, sewing machines, wrappers in large quantities as well as food items.

The former caretaker chairman and currently the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party [PDP] in the forthcoming local government election in Benue state, Hon Samuel Onuh, on Wednesday launched attack on the Deputy Editor of DAILY POST, Ameh Comrade Godwin. Hon Onuh who led thugs to assassinate Ameh in Area 8, Abuja had treacherously invited the Deputy Editor for a talk where they launched the attack on him by beating him mercilessly and left him half dead. Speaking on his ordeal, the journalist, said he was lured into the hands of the ‘bloodthirsty’ thugs by Alfred Apochi, former Councillor representing Ehaje Ward II. Ameh said he barely escaped with his life when Apochi lured him into the midst of the stern looking young men who were ordered by Onuh to kill him. He said, “Fred Apochi has been calling me for days now that he wanted to meet with me that he had something very important to discuss with me. “I have been busy, so efforts to meet him twice failed. On Wednesday evening, he called again that he needed to see me urgently that there was a friend of his who stays overseas that wanted to see me before he travels. “I never thought of anything because he (Fred) is my cousin. “I was not ready to go but when his calls became too frequent, I begged a friend of mine by the name Joseph to follow me. “Initially, he said we should meet at Rivers Plate around Secretariat, but later changed his mind that I should meet him at Eden Garden, around Jabi. ‘’On my way to Eden Garden, he called again that his friend had changed his mind that we should meet at Area 8. “At this point, I became suspicious, but his calls kept coming in that I should try because the person was travelling out of the country today (Thursday) and needed to see me. “I asked him several times who the friend was, and he was like. ” It’s a surprise.” “At this point, I wanted to go back, but he kept on begging that we also needed us to discuss on how to beg his elder brother, Barr. Boniface Agada Apochi not to step down as the chairman of our community development association, ODA. ” I felt relaxed because Barr. Apochi is a respected person from my community and has done a lot for my village. I never knew my own brother was leading me to Onuh to harm me. “I eventually hooked up with him around Zenith Bank in Area 8 and he drove ahead of us. “We entered a close and pulled over and I alighted. Suddenly, Frank Onuh (Samuel Onuh’s) brother came out. They both exchanged pleasantries and Samuel also came out looking stern. “Fred shouted surprise surprise! At this point, I became more confused. “The moment Samuel got closer to me, he snatched my phone from me, slammed it on the floor. I was trying to remove my wallet from my pocket to keep inside my car when four extra persons emerged from another angle and snatched the wallet from me. “He ordered them to deal with me and the boys started beating me. Blood was gushing out from my nose, and he was busy shouting. Kill the idiot. Kill the idiot while punching my head. Frank was also beating me seriously. “Efforts by my friend, Joseph to stop them were futile as Samuel pushed him away and ordered one of them to shoot me. ”That was when I became scared and took off. They started shouting thief! thief! And some boys came out with weapons to mob me. I was shouting, ‘I’m not a thief’ while running for my dear life. “It was God that saved me because one of the boys picked up a huge stone to smash my head before my friend shouted, “he’s not a thief.” “I ran to one of the nearby compounds and begged them to help me because Onuh and his thugs were still after me. They initially denied me access but I told them the former Ogbadibo LG chairman was after me and one of the security men knew I was an Idoma person and asked me to come in. “I drove away from the place and I went straight to the police to lodge complaint alongside Barrs. Paul Edeh and Abbas Ochogwu. “I was taken to the police clinic where necessary tests were conducted because I sustained injuries. “As we speak, I can’t move my body because of the magnitude of the beatings I received.” Meanwhile, it was also gathered that Onuh has vowed to deal mercilessly the same way with other members of ‘Owukpa Advocacy Forum’ who dropped any contrary opinion concerning his chairmanship ambition. source>>>>>>https://leadership.ng/2020/02/27/ogbadibo-lg-chairmanship-pdp-candidate-onuh-leads-thugs-to-attack-journalist-in-abuja/ cc: seun, lalasticlala, mynd44
