CareerHuman rights abuses: GAW calls for speedy implementation of SBOI reports by owukpa(op): 1:35pm On Jun 16, 2017
The Global Amnesty Watch, an international humanitarian organization has endorsed the report of the Special Board of Inquiry (SBOI), which investigated the alleged war crimes man by the Nigerian Army personnel in the fight against insurgency in the North East and Internal Security Operations in the South Eastern part of the country.

Recall that the Nigerian Army had said on Thursday that it was studying the report of a special panel that investigated allegations of human rights abuses against the army.

The panel headed by a retired major general, A.T. Jibrin, submitted its report to the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai last week at the army headquarters in Abuja.

Mrs Helen Adesola, Nigerian Representative of GAW, said it was clearly established that all the allegations of rights abuses, extra-judicial killings, forced disappearances were mere concoctions from the imaginations of those of those that have been issuing inaccurate reports.

According to her, "Other instances of documented abuses were transposed from a previous era to give the impression that the cases in question were recently committed.

She added, "The report, which should be given the widest publicity possible, should now put to rest the controversies that had raged around the efforts by Nigerian military authorities to secure the country and keep citizens safe from terrorists and other life threatening criminals.

"The revelations that certain unauthorized organizations were able to obtain classified military documents and signals through leaks is one that should keep the world worried as it implies staffers of such organizations could have been engaged in passing vital Army strategies and troop movement to terrorists, making it difficult to protect civilians.

"We have noted calls for independent investigation and further probes suggested by certain organizations. The Global Amnesty Watch however wishes to caution the Nigerian Army and the Federal Government of Nigeria to resist the temptation of being drawn into a popularity contest of pleasing smaller groups to the detriment of the larger population," her statement added.

The GAW urged the military authority not compromise the interest of the people in the areas affected by terrorism, insurgency and other crimes because they want to be compliant with the request of a narrow spectrum of activists.

She added, "The response for an independent investigation or commission of inquiry must be realistically balanced with the safety and security of citizens since such exercise can compromise national security.

"Nigeria must never lose sight of the fact that the Army is its institution as a sovereign nation and no amount of blackmail should force it to surrender state institutions to fifth columnists especially in this era that terrorists have infiltrated the ranks and file of various military which the Nigerian Army has successfully insulated itself against."

CareerGroup Rubbishes Calls For Ogbadu's Resignation As NABDA DG by owukpa(op): 8:48pm On Jun 11, 2017
A civil society group, Coalition of Civil Society for Change and Good Governance has rubbished the recent call by a group known as Northern Professionals For Good Governance, NPGG, for the resignation of Prof Lucy Ogbadu as Director-General, National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA).

The NPGG had given Ogbadu one week ultimatum to resign her leadership of the agency.

Reacting however, CCSGG described the call as absolute nonsensical, defamatory, irrational and baseless orchestrated by some persons just to rubbish the hard-earned name and reputation of the NABDA DG.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Comrade Guona Gamji,
Secretary-General of the CCSGG said the statement was the handiwork of some idlers under the canopy of a Civil Society Organization.

He said, "But we are compelled to react to it first; on account of the love of our dear country Nigeria and the urgency in the patriotic duty to protect and defend it against forces of darkness. And second, we wish to make the point, which is familiar to every Nigerian that we have collectively walked the tumultuous path since our independence as a nation and we cannot allow self-serving groups to rudely and pompously discourage and destroy any leader, at any level, who is determined to assist President Muhammadu Buhari propel the positive “change” Nigerians desire.

"Let’s state it abundantly clear from the outset that we are not an organization against accountability and transparency in public governance, as these are essential ingredients for the full economic recovery and regeneration of Nigeria.

"But much as we resent acts of corruption and not against a probe, concomitantly, we have a responsibility to rise in defence of Nigerians baselessly vilified and demonized by some groups," he said.

The group's leader said the action of NPGG was a distraction designed to halt Mrs. Ogbadu from advancing to fruition the numerous projects on her hands in genetic engineering and biotechnology breakthroughs for Nigeria.

Records of her public service at NABDA have revealed that Mrs. Ogbadu’s steps in these areas have recorded far-reaching success, to the displeasure of those after tainting the image of the Buhari presidency as a failure.

He added, "That NPGG claimed it wrote to the agency for clarification but there was no response, by no means signify that the agency’s boss is guilty of the allegations and so, justification could be found in the brash, unlawful, distasteful and malicious position of calls for resignation or occupation of the agency’s office. In civilized climes, not everything whether good or bad is achieved by brute force as canvassed by NPGG.

"But based on the dictates of the Freedom of Information Act, in Nigeria, NPGG would have sued the agency, praying the court to compel them to release the requested information. And until they had verified and found Professor Ogbadu guilty, at least, within the context of their debased judgment, one could have pardoned them for making an effort."

He urged the General public to disregard the calls and support Ogbadu as she takes NABDA to greater heights.

CrimeHold Kanu Responsible Should Anything Happens To Igbos In Nigeria - Group by owukpa(op): 8:41am On Jun 08, 2017
The South East Restoration Group has asked Ndigbo to hold the Leader of the Independent People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu responsible should anything happens to any Igbo in any part of the country.

The group said Kanu had been using his Biafra agitation to defraud and deceive innocent Igbos to rebel against the Nigerian government whilst the elders kept mute until things got out of hand.

Recall that a coalition of Northern Youth Groups tagged "The Kaduna Declaration" had given all Igbos residing in any part of Northern Nigeria three months to relocate to their places of origin. The order was widely condemned by many Nigerians, including the president, governors and prominent leaders.

Charles Mbani, National Co-ordinator of the Igbo socio-political organization , said Kanu and his collaborators are hell bent on destroying the hard-earned resources of Igbos in Nigeria through their actions with grave danger for the peaceful co-existence of Nigeria as the only country that we can all call our own.

He said the order might not be unconnected with the clamour for the rebirth of Biafra by Kanu and his team and the derogatory comments he made about other citizens of the country who are now reacting to Kanu's foolishness.

Mbani said in a statement forwarded to THE NIGERIAN , “let us make it abundantly clear that the self-centred, selfish and criminally minded Biafra agitation that was conceived by Kanu, his political sponsors and gang of criminals who are always high on cheap substance still remains the greatest threat to the Igbos not only in the north but everywhere in the country including the south-east where Nnamdi Kanu's IPOB and its collaborators known as MASSOB have continued to use threats and intimidation to destroy the economic life of the Igbo people.

The group further called on the security agencies to be at alert and not hesitate to do the needful should any individual or group of persons decide to take up arms against the other ethnic groups anywhere in the country.

The statement also expressed total confidence in the country's security architecture and reiterated that Nigeria has a ready and professional military that is able to combat any insurrection anytime foolish men give in to the devil's antics to torment their neighbours.”

The statement also added that its high time the Igbos stopped living in a fool's paradise and call their own to order just like the northern elders and leaders have demonstrated since the ultimatum was given to their kinsmen to vacate their respective abode in their own country.

"We must quickly act to bring ourselves to the judgement of good conscience to immediately address the promoters of IPOB/MASSOB who have probably conspired to set us up against our brothers from the other parts of the country, telling our children the bitter truth like others are doing is the first sign of healing that may bring this conflagration to an end without consuming our economic interests outside Igboland," the statement also added.

PoliticsWe Are Not At War With Igbos – Northern Csos Kick Against ‘kaduna Declaration’ by owukpa(op): 8:01am On Jun 08, 2017
As reactions continue to trail the ‘eviction’ ultimatum given to Igbos resident in northern Nigeria by a youth group, a Coalition of Northern Civil Society Organizations has described the directive as a mere fallacy and a mission impossible.

Recall that a coalition of Northern Youth Groups tagged “The Kaduna Declaration” had given all Igbos residing in any part of Northern Nigeria three months to relocate to their places of origin.

The spokesman of the group, Alhaji AbdulAziz Suleiman while briefing newsmen in Kaduna Tuesday said, “With the effective date of this declaration, which is today, Tuesday, June 06, 2017, all Igbos currently residing in any part of Northern Nigeria are hereby served notice to relocate within three months and all northerners residing in the East are advised likewise.”

Reacting to the directive, NCSO said northern Nigeria was never at war with the Igbo counterpart and had no reason to eject them from their own country.

Comrade Guoana Gamji, National President of the group in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST described the order as a clear case of treason, saying that such declaration had no place in the constitution.

Gamji noted that the situation in the country was that several groups have been agitating for restructuring to accommodate fiscal federalism, resource control, equitable access to public offices among others and not the eviction of other ethnic group.

He noted that, “this clamour cuts across ethnicity and all the geopolitical zones. It is unfortunate that this genuine agitation has been hijacked by a ferocious minority in the south-east or Igboland. These are the people presenting as IPOB and MASSOB, the ones that insult other ethnic nationals on a daily basis and are pushing for the balkanization of Nigeria.

“They are mean to the extent that they deprived the poor population of their daily incomes with the sit-at-home order they usually impose in the south-east region.

“The ultimatum and directives of ‘The Kaduna Declaration’ are as perverted as the wrong impression being given by secessionists that they enjoy widespread support. The declaration does not reflect the sentiments of the north or the northerners who as Nigerians are receptive to all ethnicities.

“We therefore strongly condemn the wrong impression being created to the effect that the north is at war with Igbos to warrant serving them quit notice. The north is not at war with any part of Nigeria as the region truly believes in the strength of a united Nigeria. We are not only happy to live with the Igbos but we are eagerly available to do business with them and everyone else that believes in one Nigeria,” Gamji said in the statement.

He noted that those issuing the statement just like the IPOB/MASSOB merchants were the true enemies of Nigeria.

While calling on all well meaning northern leaders to dissociate themselves from this meaningless call, the coalition said the groups that took part in the briefing should be blacklisted and ostracized in anyway possible as they must not be provided the platform to further spread hatred.

PoliticsOnly A Mad Man Will Say Idoma Belongs To Biafra Territory - INF by owukpa(op): 8:44am On Jun 07, 2017
Idoma National Forum, the apex-social economic group of Idoma community has slammed the Indigenous People of Biafra for claiming the community is part of Biafra territory.

President of the forum, Barister Amali Amali said anyone who thinks the Idoma community is part of Biafra territory is insane and should visit a psychiatrist home without delay.

Amali was reacting to the recent claim by the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who declared that Idoma is part of the Biafra land.

Kanu had said, "In line with this remarkable sit at home held yesterday I will not hesitate to congratulate the people of Abia state, Anambra state, Akwa Ibom state, Bayelsa state, Cross River state, Delta state, Ebonyi state, Enugu state, Imo state, Rivers state including the good people of Igbanke in Edo state, Igala clan in Kogi state and Idoma/Igede/Agatu in Benue state for sending a clear and unmistakable message to the whole world that this Biafra self determination effort driven by IPOB is uncompromising."

Speaking with DAILY POST Tuesday evening, the INF chairman said those who claimed Idoma community is part of Biafra territory were apparently not born during the civil war.
According to him, Idoma men were part of the federal troops that waged war against the Biafran soldiers and have never supported idea of a divided Nigeria.

“Whoever says Idoma community is part of Biafra is insane and must visit the nearest psychiatrist home. These people making such claim were not around during the civil war because Idoma men were among the federal troops that fought against the Biafran war lords.

“We have never been part of Biafra and anyone who thinks we are must be out of his mind.”

When reminded that some persons are of the opinion that it would be better if Idoma supports the Biafran struggle, he affirmed that Biafra is dead and buried.

“There is nothing like Biafra. The country died February 1970 and has since been buried and forgotten. Thos clamouring for the rebirth of Biafra are just kids looking for cheap popularity,” he said.

PoliticsBiafra: INM Calls For Probe As Group Fingers Obiano, Ekweremadu As Kanu Sponsors by owukpa(op): 5:37pm On Jun 04, 2017
The Igbo for Nigeria Movement, INM, has called for the immediate probe of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano and other Igbo elites sponsoring the secessionist group, Independent People of Biafra led by Nnamdi Kanu.

The anti-Bifara group was reacting to a shocking revelation made by a group, Society for Civil Liberties & the Rule of Law (Intersociety) and Southeast Based Coalition of Human Rights Organizations (SBCHROs) on those funding the Biafra agitators.

Intersociety and SBCHROs had recently alleged that Anambra State governor, Mr Willie Obiano gave car and cash gifts to the self-acclaimed Supreme Leader of Biafra and IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In their statement, the group gave names of those behind the agitators as, “Amnesty International, Alaigbo Development Foundation, Igbo Youth Movement, Ike Ekweremadu, Peter Obi, Joe Achuzia, US Embassy in Nigeria, Mike Akuoma, Ugochukwu Chinwuba, Ikechukwu Okoye, Clifford Iloanya, Prince Emeka Onyeso, Okechukwu Nwanguma, Aloysius Attah, Ibuchukwu Ezike, Tochukwu Ezeoke and his Igbo Ekunie group, Justus and Justine Ijeomas, Alex Olisa, Damian Ugwu, Damian Ogudike, Tools & Allied Market and its leadership, Ekwenche Group, USA, Uche Asiegbu, George Onyeibe, Samuel Kamanyoku and others.

The group claimed these patrons were channeling resources meant for improving the lives of Nigerians to the separatist groups to finance their insurgency.

Speaking on the development at a press conference on Saturday, the national leader of INM, Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, called on the anti-graft agencies to immediately ascertain if Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, Delta as well as Bayelsa state governors also gave similar questionable gifts to Nnamdi Kanu or any other terrorist group.

According to Igwe, “We are raising this alarm because of the far reaching implication of this recent revelation. The plank of the Igbo agitation is about the neglect and marginalization of the south-east but it appears we have never correctly situated the problem.

“The five south-east states are not governed by Hausa-Fulani or Yoruba, they have been governed by our own blood since the return to civil rule in 1999. What this recent development is telling us is that the governors have been doling out their states' money to Biafra agitators under different covers.

“For one, we are worried that this overbearing attitude of IPOB, MASSOB, Intersociety and SBCHROs could push other ethnic nationals to a point when they will ask for Igbo states to go their way knowing fully well that a Biafra Republic is the fantasy of its disturbed leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

“He has proven he does not have the capacity and orientation to obey the law; if Nnamdi Kanu cannot obey the law and comply with his bail condition those following him should know that he will only obey his own laws when he becomes the first President of his phantom republic. This much has been confirmed with adoption of the title of "Supreme Leader".

“We further want Kanu, IPOB, MASSOB, Intersociety and others to know that we are not willing to begin to apply for visas to continue living in places that millions of us know as home. We are facing the reality of our limited landmass that would immediately spell trouble on more than one front. Same way we don't want to sell our properties in other parts of Nigeria at giveaway prices.

“Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been named as a patron of separatists. He was placed on the same level as the IPOB leader. We want to ask why he never pushed for fiscal federalism the various times he has presided over the amendment of the constitution.

“Peter Obi, former Anambra state governor, is being hailed as a hero yet no one is asking why he did not turn his state into Nigeria's Dubai in the eight years he held office as governor. Peter Obi is being commended for being the patron of a group that is pressuring youths to embark on suicide mission; no one is asking him what he will do with his investment in Abuja, Lagos and across Nigeria if his foot soldiers break the country up.”

EducationJAMB, Registrar Oleyede Bags Highest Award Over Successful CBT-UTME by owukpa(op): 2:11pm On Jun 01, 2017
Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Transparency on Governance has hailed the management of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, over the successful conduct of the recent Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

CCSOTG subsequently conferred the title of ‘IDEAL CHANGE AGENT’ on JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oleyede for the well-conduct of the examination.

The highly revered group, which mission is to hold government and government agencies accountable by making sure they affect their abilities and deliver their mandates to the public, noted that after monitoring the exercise, it concluded that the Oleyede-board has done well.

CCSOTG said its reaction became imperative following the recent reform process in the sector, which attracted divided opinions from the general public on its impact for the selection of undergraduates.

The group said, after monitoring the exercise, it discovered that JAMB should be given more kudos than knocks.

“You will agree that this was imperative given the conflicting positions being stated by various stakeholders. It was therefore necessary that the coalition places itself in vantage position to be able to speak to facts.

“We therefore leveraged on our wide network to do on the ground monitoring of the examination. This of course was after we had dedicatedly followed the processes leading to the exercise itself. The aftermath of the examination, which included the release of results were also closely watched,” Sabo Odeh Executive Director/Convener of the organization made this known at a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday.

According to Odeh, after observing the Computer Based Test UMTE, which JAMB monitored through closed circuit television (CCTV) in addition to other traditional assurance system, observed that despite the best efforts of JAMB, organization of the UMTE experienced some hitches.

He observed that lapses were however externally motivated to an extent that the Board had limited wiggle room to influence them otherwise.

Odeh said the CBT Centres would still have to do more to meet the standards demanded by JAMB.

He said, “Since these are businesses that deploy their facilities for other uses, the burden is on them to upgrade as necessary since they are not offering their services for free. Our suggestion is that JAMB should explore new partnerships with a view to delisting centres that have proven problematic.”

The group’s convener also observed that the board needed to improve on broadband connectivity, which he said some critics noted that the “connectivity was a critical issue in the conduct of the examination. Unfortunately, this is a national issue that requires further investment in broadband infrastructure by telecommunications companies.

He also cited the instance of computer literacy where, “some candidates did not have computer literacy skill on the level to allow them comfortably write the examination. Such candidates do not however constitute the majority. Our recommendation is for JAMB to work with the relevant stakeholders to boost the computer literacy of secondary school students so that they would have become capable at the point of writing the examination.”

Despite all the hitches, the group confirmed that, “conduct of the UTME was orderly, conformed with best standards at most parameters, and is commendable. Instances of malpractices were however recorded at centres where people colluded to cover the cameras with hoods.”

It also hailed JAMB for the timely release of results of candidates, which has justified the innovations put in place by JAMB

It also suggested that JAMB should consider a-three-year ban for both candidates and centres implicated in malpractices. The push to reform our nation should be grounded in the education sector.

“Having duly considered the organization of the UTME, its conduct and results that reflect the reality of the Nigerian situation, we have resolved to award the Registrar of JAMB, Professor Ishaq Oleyede with one of our most prestigious honour. We hereby confer on Professor Oloyede the honour of IDEAL CHANGE AGENT. This is even more so as he has, of all the President's appointees, demonstrated uncommon leadership qualities and commitment within the shortest period of his appointment.”

PoliticsIdoma People Disown Biafra, Warn Nnamdi Kanu by owukpa(op): 12:34pm On May 31, 2017
The Idoma People of Nigeria has distanced themselves from the inclusion of Idoma territory in the map of Biafra by the Nnamdi Kanu-led Independent People of Biafra.

The Idoma Youth Forum for Justice said the inclusion of Benue South in the map of the defunct Biafra was a deliberate attempt by the agitators to pitch the Idoma people against the Nigerian government.
IPOB had recently claimed that Biafra spans from Itsekiriland on the western boundary with Oduduwa to Bakassi on the eastern boundary with the Cameroons, and also stretches from Idoma and Igala land on the northern boundary with Northern Nigeria to the Bight of Biafra which is South of the island of Bonny.

In a 5-point communiqué issued in Otukpo at the end of a meeting held by the Idoma youth, they dissociated the Benue-South zone from the “so-called Biafra.”

The communiqué signed by Emmanuel Omonu, president of the youth arm of Idoma national apex association said, “We will not allow any inch of our land to be part of the ill-thought-out enterprise call Biafra.

He said, “We ask the IPOB and other secessionist groups to henceforth a halt to stop referring to Idoma community as part of Biafra as it touches on the collective sensibilities of our people and could provoke ethnic crisis.

“We are surprise that the likes of Kanu and his other Bifara supporters have not learnt their lesson after returning to Nigeria following the fall of Biafra in January 15, 1970 with tales of woes and horrors.
“The Idomas and other ethnic groups who have been carved into the maps being circulated by Nnamdi Kanu and his groups, we shall not tolerate any provocation from this group of persons as law abiding citizens of Nigeria and hereby wish to draw attention of the Federal Government and the International community to this fraud of a Biafra Republic to extort and criminalize our people.

“Our sons have held very high positions in Nigeria just like the Igbos and we see no reason for any secession anywhere in Nigeria, the right thing for all to do is to task our leaders in authority to judiciously apply the people's resources for the overall benefit of all whilst subscribing to the current administration's war against corruption.

Omonu said Kanu, who recently donned the Idoma traditional attire to a court hearing in Abuja was only using Biafra to enrich himself and family.

The group called on Benue South, political leaders and traditional rulers to “speak out now as their silence is becoming eloquent.”

“We want to make it empathetically clear that Idoma land was never and can never be part of the fraud call Biafra. We believe in one Nigeria and will do all within our power to protect the unity of Nigeria. Biafra died in 1970 and has gone into history. They should desist from dragging our name into their fraudulent business,” the group added.

CrimeHow Nigerian Military Is Winning War Against Insurgency - Global Amnesty Watch by owukpa(op): 8:54am On May 31, 2017
Global Amnesty Watch has revealed why the Nigerian military has been able to sustain its victory over insurgency within the year.

The UK-based organisation also revealed that from its findings, the military operation in the northeast has successfully liberated the towns and villages that came under the control of insurgents.

According to GAW, the military has been able to achieve all these feats due to its highest level of transparency and intelligence.

The organization, monitors the conduct of military, defence and security forces in combating crimes globally made this known at the presentation of the Mid Term Report on Nigeria's Counter-Insurgency War held in Abuja on Tuesday.

The report was presented by GAW its research partner, the Center for International and Strategic Studies, Abuja.

Speaking at the presentation, Tom John Lever, Global Amnesty Watch Representative on African Affairs, noted that in the period under review, "the Nigerian military has been able to record remarkable progress on the strength of its transparent and accountable conduct in financial resources by the Nigerian military hierarchy.

He said, "GAW has closely monitored the period preceding the current administration, its military operations against the Boko Haram insurgency, the humanitarian and internal displacement from the crisis, and government efforts to curtail all these, has compiled its Mid Term Report on Nigeria's Counter-Insurgency War.

"To achieve this, the Global Amnesty Watch works with indigenous NGOs in Nigeria, which has allowed unprecedented access top subject areas, which would have been impossible in the absence of such symbiotic collaboration

He added that no fewer that 11,000 persons have so far been rescued from Boko Haram den on the basis of military inteligence.

"A first batch of 21 Chibok Girls have been freed followed six months later with another 82 of the girls freed. The terrorists are being pressured to free the remaining girls. As at May 2017, 11,894 other hostages of the terror group had been freed. Hundreds of other hostages have been freed in the period since then.

Also speaking at the presentation of the report, Prof Shuaib Ahmed Danfulani, director CISS, said in addition to the sale of A29 Super Tucano Aircraft to the Nigerian military granted by president Trump of the USA, the Nigerian military stands to access more level-funding and support from other world leaders to drive Boko Haram into extinction if this level of transparency in the military sector is sustained.

Education(opinion) Jamb: The Demystification Of Utme/ Cbt Puzzle by owukpa(op): 7:09am On May 30, 2017
BY ANTHONY KOLAWOLE

Nigerians should shout aloud, with thumbs up in the air for Professor Is-haq Oloyede, the current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB). I say everybody should shout loud praises to him. Wait a minute! Why am I sounding like an incensed Pentecostal Pastor, whose tithe basket caught the biggest “fish” ever, minutes before the commencement of the evening session of “signs and wonders?”

It is not exactly so, but it’s something close to it. Hurray! The JAMB registrar has shamed critics again; he has silenced sceptics. He has left the professional exam fraudsters and their allies jobless and lurking everywhere on the corridors of the educational sector in Nigeria speechless. Oloyede conducted a seamless and near 100 percent successful Computer Based Test (CBT) for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) in spite of malicious opposition to it.

It is in the character of those who reap from the decay in the education sector to always vehemently oppose any innovation or the application of reforms that would sanitize the system. Therefore, they attacked the JAMB registrar and threw all sorts of defamatory missiles at him. They called him names and sued for his crucification.

Shockingly, a faction of ASUU, particularly the Ibadan Zone was part of this conspiracy. They wrote memos, petitions and probably, resorted to voodoo to attack Professor Oloyede. When the antics failed to create the damage and halt the sanitization of JAMB exams, they laughably called for the sack of the JAMB registrar, a tested performer, whom they maliciously brand as incompetent.

Even without JAMB’s independent Information Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure to anchor this laudable innovation of CBT, Professor Oloyede, a university teacher and administrator per excellence, worked out a perfect synergy with private ICT centers proprietors and superintended over a near hitch –free CBT exams. And come to think of it, over 1,736,571 candidates sat for the exams, which were segmented in batches across the nation in a span of one week in 642 centers.

The JAMB boss developed a water-tight and sensitive ICT security alert system that detected exam fraudsters who connived with JAMB approved operators of CBT centers. They were watched in the central control room, caught and penalized together with fraudulent candidates accordingly.

In addition, candidates’ widely applauded the conduct of the CBT as smooth and easy-going. They were full of praises for JAMB, as the online business of UTME has speeded every process of the exams.

While veiled opponents of sanity in the conduct of exams in Nigeria hid their faces in shame, independent observers equally joined candidates in eulogizing JAMB for the conduct of a perfect exam. The Joint Action Coalition on Education (JACE) deployed its officials who monitored the conduct of the CBT in all the 36 states of federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). And they returned a verdict of excellence on JAMB generally and Professor Oloyede in particular.

A statement by JACE Southwest Zonal Co-ordinator, Mr. Ayokunle Adumashin conveyed it in floating details. It stated; “From our observations: The examination was orderly and met set standards in all in the centres monitored by our coalition. The few incidents recorded, were largely issues pertaining to human factor and not caused by systems or process.

” The examination showed the imperative for continued investment in broadband penetration and stability in addition to improving on power supply situation in the country. The suggested improvements would totally eliminate the few glitches recorded,” it pontificated.

It is my conviction that those who have sworn to pull back Nigeria in the regime of “Change mantra,” as enunciated by President Muhammadu Buhari cannot be prevented from venting their spleen and anger against anyone, like Professor Oloyede, who is determined to create a difference. But they are powerless to halt the moving train of “change” and the positive whirlwind shall continue to blow in institutions manned by competent hands, who share the same vision with Mr. President.

We are an unfortunate people. In Nigeria, we all know, the desire of candidates to cheat in every exam, whether conducted by JAMB, WASSCE or the universities is given a boost by parents desperate to see their children acquire certificates they cannot defend the knowledge certified by the certificates’. There are exam leakage syndicate all over Nigeria. And shockingly, it is a means of livelihood for the crooks. Even with the implementation of the CBT, we have noticed how some operators of ICT centers dubiously connived with candidates to compromise the sanctity of the exams.

But thanks to JAMB’s surveillance and alertness. These fraudulent characters were secretly detected by the security devices JAMB installed and today, the few candidates yet to receive their results are those caught up in the exam fraud scam, which is being further investigated by JAMB. It has continued to release results of centers and candidates absolved from complicity after the investigation. It will not surprise me if tomorrow another band of veiled antagonists to sanity in Nigeria’s educational sector attempts to blackmail JAMB and Professor Oloyede with it. It is the sad narrative of our debased lives.

As expected, these parasites have begun subtle campaigns, alluding to JAMB tinkering with the idea of dumping the CBT for the analogue Paper and Pencil Test (PPT) for the UTME. But JAMB has refuted it as untrue, false and extremely misleading. The CBT mode of exams has come to stay and the black hearts can jump into the Lagoon, at their peril.

Rather the JAMB boss and JAMB board are further modifying the CBT mode to make it much easier and friendly to erase the technophobia that gripped some candidates in the 2017 edition of CBT exams. They are determined to consolidate on the gains recorded in the last exercise.

A recent statement by the JAMB boss, Professor Oloyede at Arewa House, Kaduna, during a strategic planning retreat on monitoring and supervision of 2017 UTME, divulged the decision of JAMB’s board to henceforth adopt the use of the eight keys, instead of the traditional mouse for computers.

He informed; “From the general feedback on the adoption of the Computer Based Test mode, we have noted the challenge of computer low-level literacy of some candidates, especially with the phobia for the mouse.”

“This has been responsible partly for the call by some people for a reversal to the Paper and Pencil Test mode. In order to ensure equity and level playground for all candidates taking the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, the Board has designed a system that will allow candidates use only eight (cool keys without the use of the mouse,” Oloyede expatiated.

But we must accept the unalterable truth that the entire world and knowledge are ICT driven now. Nigeria in the 21st century, cannot afford to continue to run its educational system on the analogue mode. ICT –driven CBT has several advantages to the educational system and the candidates tested through it.

First, the online registration is more accurate and leaves low incidents of errors; it checkmates exam fraud; no issues of impersonation; it ensures the quick and almost instant release of results to candidates, who get it in the comfort of their homes through online channels.

And above all, the CBT will provoke the intensity of ICT education at the lower rungs of the educational system to compel schools to properly teach their students the use of ICT in readiness for JAMB’s CBT to proceed for higher education. These are the pluses ICT/ CBT have impinged on our economy, education and national life as a nation.

In foreign countries, the whole process of learning is done online. E-learning has replaced paper and biro or chalk and blackboard. There is no university overseas that still subjects students to the primordial system of learning as some debased Nigerians insist on retaining. We should be grateful to Professor Oloyede and by implication, the innovations brought by JAMB in education.

We now know that the CBT which seemingly appeared impossible is not just do-able, but perfectly too. All universities in Nigeria should emulate his example and kick-start the process of thinking of how to administer knowledge through e-learning.

Of course, I know Professor Oloyede is not new on the game. He faced stiff opposition as Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin,(Unilorin) when set out to introduce e-learning techniques. He was stoutly opposed.

But I know him as a man who is never afraid of trial and he ventured into it and came out successful like the JAMB case has demonstrated. Today, Unilorin sits on the pioneering seat of universities in Nigeria to adopt e-learning and has continued to attract unprecedented public patronage. Those in doubt, should spare a day and take a trip to Unilorin where Oloyede also introduced the CBT exams and it’s working perfectly. Once again, thumbs up for Professor Oloyede. He is my perfect role model.

PoliticsTransparency International Refutes Claims Against Current Military Leadership by owukpa(op): 10:07pm On May 29, 2017
Chairman of Transparency International, Nigeria Office, Auwal Rafsanjani has refuted working against the Nigerian military leader over its recent report on arms procurement.

Recall that TI had in a report presented by Auwal, claimed that the “Defence sector corruption in Nigeria has enabled the political elite to accumulate and distribute political patronage. Longstanding military exceptionalism, meanwhile, has justified weak and compromised oversight of security -related spending and excessive secrecy,” the report said.

However, speaking on a programme monitored on AIT Monday morning, the TI executive insisted that the recent report was not meant to derail the anti-corruption fight by the current administration.

According to him, the report was aimed at commending and complementing the efforts of the various service chiefs for ‘deviating from the past.’

Speaking further , the TI director applauded the Nigerian Army for making efforts to study some recommendations made by the its organization to further strengthen its ongoing war against every form of corruption within its rank and file.

He also used the opportunity to call on the Nigerian military to continue to make its door open to interactions between the Civil Society and the Organizations in the Federal Government's war against corruption knowing fully well that, “the military remains key to the sustenance of any healthy society for all Nigerians.”

On his part, social and political commentator, Philip Agbese, who spoke alongside Rafsanjani on the program, maintained that though there could be facts in the report between 2010 to 2015, it was still not enough for any one to constitute himself into a court of law to pass verdicts on issues before the court.

He further encouraged Transparency International to be less ambiguous in its titles and presentations as not to discourage selfless persons particularly the present Military Chiefs who have done their best to bring about sanity to the military in the last two years.

PoliticsI Inherited Witchcraft From Suswam - Benue Gov, Ortom by owukpa(op): 7:44pm On May 29, 2017
Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has revealed that Benue State government House was filled with witchcraft, idol worshipers before he came on board.

Ortom, however noted that his emergence as the state governor purged the government of all forms of ungodliness.

The governor made this disclosure in his second anniversary speech.

According to him, “Ladies and gentlemen at the time we took over. There was poor security of lives and property in Benue State. Government business was sluggish.

“Corruption and brazen embezzlement of funds was so obvious that it could be seen and touched.

“Lying was the language of governance. Wild parties, orgies, ungodliness, witchcraft, and idol worshipping was common and Government House was desecrated with all forms of ungodliness.

“Government of Benue literarily became a sea of political appointees with over 500 Special/Senior Special Assistants, 30 Advisers, 17 Commissioners together with a litany of praise singers.

“The biggest challenge we inherited was insecurity. Citizens were attacked by hoodlums day and night. Big markets in Tivland like Ihugh, Adikpo, Zaki Biam, Tor-Donga and Aliade were closing down because hoodlums used to snatch money from traders who sold their wares at such markets.

“Primary school teachers were on strike for about one year. Quality of education nose-dived because teachers were on strike at all levels of our educational system.”

PoliticsBiafra Sit-at-home Order: Group Warns Igbo Against Self-destruction by owukpa(op): 8:25am On May 29, 2017
The Igbo for Nigeria Movement has strongly frowned against the sit-at-home order on May 30 by some groups agitating for the rebirth of Biafra.

INM, while describing the plan as a journey to self-destruction warned Ndigbo, especially those clamouring for the return of the defunct Biafra Republic to think of its consequences and embrace on Nigeria.

A statement by the National Leader of the group, Maxi Igwe Ifeanyi warned that the mistake some Igbo leaders made fifty years ago that led to the civil war should be avoided at all costs.

Ifeanyi said the war inflicted serious injury on Nigeria that has refused to heal.

According to him, the divisions persist not because efforts were not made at reconciliation but because there are those that continually pick at old wounds, preventing healing, so that they have the excuse to brainwash the younger generations that were not witnesses to the horrors of the three and half years starting 1967.

He said, “Our people, Ndi Igbo, embittered by the glaring inequalities in the running of the country, especially the mindless slaughter of Igbos with the passive and active endorsement of the government of that time precipitated the decision by our people to secede from Nigeria and pursue our future separate from a group of people that had treated us unfairly.

“Let us quickly point out here that we are by no means implying that all is well in terms of fiscal federalism. Like other ethnic nationalities and geo-political zones, we desire greater self determination; we will like to move at an economic pace that is more consistent with our exceptional enterprising spirit.

“Like others, we want the liberty to control the resources produced in our homeland and deploy same to develop our states at a pace that is consistent with our aspirations. These are goals that we have diligently pursued through non-violent means and intellectual agitation.

“Unfortunately, these efforts have been greatly undermined by the militant activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Biafra Independence Movement (BIM), Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and other configurations.

“But for the matured response of the Federal Government, the confrontational posture and activities of these groups had threatened fresh conflagrations that directly undermine the stability of Nigeria,” he added.

The group leader, therefore urged Ndigbo all over the country to go about their business and not listen to any sit-at-home order by any group of persons.

“Igbos must recognize the imperative of not exposing our flanks to the other ethnic nationalities whose own people can cash in on the closure of Igbo businesses to take over our clientele when we open the way for people to feel frustrated.

“The great Ikemba who was responsible for the first awakening, who led the war and who lived all his life as an advocate of Biafra later participated in elections in Nigeria and wanted to become President of a United Nigeria. We believe in his renewed vision that the Igbo interest can be achieved within a united and prosperous Nigeria that is restructured to address existing imbalances.”

PoliticsIgbo Youths Launch Anti-biafra Movement, Slam Nnamdi Kanu by owukpa(op): 2:46pm On May 28, 2017
A youth group, under the aegis of Igbo for Nigerian Movement, INM, has floated anti-Biafra campaign to unite people of Igbo extraction in order to reap maximum benefits from the peaceful co-existence of one United Nigeria.

IINM called on the entire Ndigbo to bury the idea of the struggle of the Republic of Biafra and embrace the new platform, INM for intellectual and strategic engagements that would enthrone equity, fairness and justice to every member of the Nigerian State.

The group warned that the ongoing clamour by some persons for the secession of Igbo from Nigeria was a call to self-destruction and would only do them more harm than good.

Some groups, including the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, as well as the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra, under the leadership of Uchenna Madu have been clamoring for the birth of Biafra.

According to them, Nigeria is a zoo and has succeeded in expunging them from the scheme of things in the nation.

However, the INM leader, Maxi Igwe Ifeanyi speaking alongside with his newly inaugurated Excos with our correspondent on Sunday, called on those supporting the return of Biafra to quickly swallow their word and work together for a united Nigeria in line with the vision of great nationalists like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe.

Mazi Ifeanyi Igwe, the group's leader in his interview, insisted that Biafra was not the panacea to Igbos' problem, rather the beginning of more trouble for the land as the agitation has continue to sow the seed of suspicion for the average Igboman particularly in the political circle used by other ethnic groups as the key to other segment of our national life.

He said, "The ongoing clamour by some infertile-minded Igbo brethren for the secession of South east from Nigeria is a call to self-destruction, to say the least.

"It is obvious that those championing the movement for the return of Biafra were not born during the civil war and have no single idea of what Ndigbo went through during and after the war.

"We therefore call on those behind this movement to sheathe their sword and embrace a one and united Nigeria.

"Biafra is never the solution to our problem. In fact, it is the beginning of more problems for our already-troubled land.

"INM stands for the unity of Nigeria and urge those beating war drum to heed to the old Igbo adage that says, "ogwumagana agahi ogbanye ije ya maka na ohia n'ere oku (the chameleon does not change its movement because the bush is on fire.)" he added.

PoliticsDavid Mark Mocks His Governor, Calls Him 'Ortom De Barrow’ by owukpa(op): 7:57am On May 25, 2017
Former Senate President, David Mark has hit his governor, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, describing him as Ortom de barrow.

WWW.IDOMAVOICE.COM reports that Mark, while commissioning Brick House and the chapel at government house, Port Harcourt, mocked his state governor, Ortom for distributing wheelbarrows while others were busy building roads and brides.

Ortom in his reply said Mark has totally disconnected from his people and was only jealous of his achievement.

“Mark's statements smack of a man who has obviously been disconnected with the very people who voted him. His utterances also exude envy against Governor Ortom who is succeeding where Mark has failed. In Benue South which Senator Mark represents, the Ortom administration has embarked on a number of projects for the people,” Ortom said.

Mark in a reply by his media aide, Paul Mumeh described Ortom as a confused fellow who does not deserve to be a governor.

Mark said, “Unarguably, It would have made a huge political capital for Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state and his handlers to maintain sealed lips over this ill - fated " Ortom de Barrow" saga.

“Honestly, it is not our style or character to respond to or give official seal to innuendos espoused in the guise of officialdom. But for the less knowledgeable, one is tempted to offer clarification Like Uthman Dan Fodio "Truth is an open wound, only truth can heal".

“The news is in the market places and even the blind can see the reign of Wheel Barrows as youth Empowerment gimmick in Benue state under the watchful eyes of Ortom.

The Immediate past President of the Senate Senator David Mark is not known for pretenses. He is ever pointedly frank and blunt. He calls a spade its rightful name no matter whose ox is gored .

“Senator Mark did not say anything new or beyond what Nigerians already knew about the Ortom's Barrow when he spoke in Port Harcourt , Rivers state at the commissioning of Brick House ( Government House) on Tuesday . But like a true statesman he is , he merely held the mirror so that the society can see its reflection, if you don't like what you see, breaking the mirror will not change anything , and casting aspersions or embarking on a fruitless voyage of character assassination cannot change anything because the truth of a man cannot be dissolved in his own blood.

“What is there to envy Ortom about. In fact, Ortom deserves pity . He needs help because the sorry state of affairs in Benue state have unarguably overwhelmed him. Is it the volume of unpaid salaries to workers, leading to industrial actions , the unabating insecurity in the land leading to lost of thousands of lives and property to the state of despondency under Ortom that Senator Mark should be envy o

“Remember this is a man ( Mark) who was a state governor in his early 30s, a minister and the then youngest member of the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC) . It is on record that Mark is the longest serving Senator in Nigeria and president of the Senate for eight uninterrupted years. Ortom like every other NIGERIAN knew how Mark's steady hands in the upper legislative chambers especially his invocation of Doctrine of Necessity saved the nation from the political logjam in 2010.

“If Ortom feels strongly about the concerns of Nigerians over his less than honest performance and not just that Senator Mark merely reechoed what the people already know, he should rise up to the challenge and serve the people of Benue state diligently and honestly. Ortom should ordinarily know that anything short of the welfare and security of citizens of Benue state amounts to a disservice to the state and clearly unacceptable to Senator Mark.

“The situation in Benue today should challenge any responsible government to roll up its sleeves and go back to work instead of perceiving the peoples' comment from the prism of politics.

“Senator Mark is a respected statesman in whom every emerging leaders, like Ortom, should run to and draw from his experience and wisdom. It is a fruitless effort to drag his name to the mud.”

PoliticsTransparency International Ordered To Leave Nigeria Within 72 Hours by owukpa(op): 10:55pm On May 22, 2017
A human rights group, under the aegis of Save Humanity Advocacy Centre has given the Transparency International 72 hours to leave the country over its recent report that former Nigerian military chiefs stole as much as $15 billion through fraudulent arms procurement deals.

According to a recent report jointly presented by the Executive Director of CISLAC, Auwal Musa Rafsanjani and a Senior Legal Researcher at TI, Eva Marie Anderson, corruption in the defence sector had weakened Nigerian counter-terrorism capacity and strengthened Boko Haram terrorists.

Comrade Ibrahim Abubakar, the Executive Director, SHAC, who faulted the report, said the organization’s excesses have become unbearable and it should leave the country without delay.

According to him, “We have taken our time to look at the claims in the said report and our conclusion is that it contained more of recycled history than groundbreaking research that Nigerians are yearning for to take the ongoing anti-corruption efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari to the next level.

“It is however disappointing that the report is rich in allegations and short on actionable revelations that could help to further plug loopholes in the system.

“The report therefore has all the elements of a contract awarded in pursuit of an agenda which is already well known to many Nigerians going by our experience with Amnesty International and those promoting falsehood in high places.

“It wasted a lot of its focus on cases and incidents that the President Buhari led Federal Government has dealt with or that happened too long ago to have been brought up in the context Transparency International did.

“The defence sectors of other countries regularly deal with issues that are not too different from what the Nigerian Armed Forces have had to contend with and at no time has Transparency International sought to make them the object of international ridicule once they being implementing actions to prevent recurrence.

“It is therefore appalling that the massive reforms that have been introduced in Nigeria’s defence sector was not taken into consideration when the report was written rather they decided to present the past ugly trend under past administration, which is considered as a gross injustice to the current set of actors in the defence architecture of our country who make daily sacrifices to see to our peace and wellbeing as a nation. ‎

“We therefore condemn the Transparency International’s report in its entirety as an attempt to blackmail the Nigerian Armed Forces and the Federal Government into allowing terrorists to freely roam the Nigeria. For Transparency International to constitute itself into a sanction imposing entity that can block arms sales and place travel ban, as far as we are concerned, is a plot to decimate Nigeria’s population to allow dark influences inherit the land and its resources. No right thinking nation will accept such wicked evil and we reject it on behalf of all Nigerians.

“In the interest of the preservation of Nigeria, we are giving Transparency International 72 hours to leave Nigeria.

“We, by the same measure call on the Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Ministry of Interior to act fast in expelling the saboteurs at the organization from Nigeria within the stated time failing which we shall bear no responsibility for the mass civil disobedience from Nigerians who are being mobilized across the country.

“Transparency International shall receive a stiffer treatment than its co-saboteur, Amnesty International received at the hands of Nigerian protesters in the past. This ultimatum is to Transparency International and all its local collaborators in the agenda to destroy the Nigeria’s image both at home and abroad for their selfish interest.

“As the common street lingo will put it, “our mumu don do”, we have had enough of foreign occupiers that come here to lord it over Nigerians as if they represent God. The wickedness of Transparency International, while meant to particularly to dent the image of the current administration and its efforts in the war against insurgency, the plot will make life difficult for Nigerians given the humanitarian crisis that terrorism has caused in our country.”

PoliticsCoup: Tell Nigerians What You Know – Group Replies Wike by owukpa(op): 7:34pm On May 18, 2017
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has been to say what he knows about the alleged ongoing plans by some persons to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari.

Wike, had while reacting to a comment by Chief of Army Staff, General Tukur Buratai, that some people were approaching soldiers for political reasons, asked him to stop allocating soldiers to politicians.

According to him, “Who are those approving battalions of soldiers to politicians? If they don’t want soldiers to follow politicians, they should stop giving soldiers to politicians.”

Reacting to Wike’s comment, ‎Barrister Charles Timothy, ‎the National Coordinator of Coalition for Truth and Justice, a human right group said the statement was heavily pregnant with meaning.

Timothy in a statement forwarded to DAILY POST, said Wike’s reaction was not necessary as it did not portray an understanding of the essence of what Buratai meant.

According to him, “What Buratai is saying involves the orientation, training and the discipline of soldiers to respect constituted authority and would have been apt at any given time in the current democratic journey.

“Trying to give it a spin that denotes the buildup of a consequence due to administrative blunder on the part of the military as Wike has done is not only mischievous but condemnable.

“Political leaders should be careful how they try to drag institutions of government especially ones concerned with the security of the nation into their personal grievances.
Coup: CACOL dares Buratai to arrest Army officers plotting with politicians

“Everybody knows that the Nigeria army does not send soldiers to guard politicians as inferred by Wike.

“Soldiers are usually drafted where there is a threat to peace and the possibly that the magnitude might be of a proportion more than what the police can handle.

“If that is the case then his anger is misplaced as every tight thinking person expects the Nigeria Army to always defend and protect the territorial integrity of the country both internally and externally as well as disarm groups who have taken up arms again with the sole purpose of causing mayhem to serve a parochial interest.

“Everybody is aware that the rerun elections in Rivers would have been bloody if not for the presence of the military and this is something Governor Wike should appreciate if he has the interest of the people at heart.

“But if he insists to know better than Buratai, he should step forward to tell Nigerians all that he knows about the purported coup to sack the civilian regime which is in place in the country.

“Wike should move his patriotism an inch forward to reveal to Nigerians all that his men and friends like those who helped him to plot the rigging of the elections in Rivers had planned before they were exposed by the Nigerian Army,” the group said.

CTJ also vowed to reject every attempt by anybody to truncate the nation’s democracy just ‎to instigate confusion and return to power through the back door those that Nigerians had overwhelmingly rejected.

CrimeAgatu Youth Leader Killed During Fight Over Stolen Cows – Benue Police by owukpa(op): 6:55pm On May 18, 2017
The Benue State police command has confirmed the killing of Aboje Otene, otherwise known as Philosopher, the youth leader of Agatu community area of the state.

WWW.IDOMAVOICE.COM gathered that problem started during the weekend when Otene led some youths to Ogbai community after some Fulani herdsmen had reported to him about their cows being slaughtered in the community by the youths.
On reaching Ogbai, Otene got more than he bargained for as people of the community pounced on him for daring to question them.

“He came back home with the promise to go back to Ogbai the following morning for the resolution of the problem.

"However, when he got there with just few of his men, the people of Ogbai had already organized a group and immediately they saw him and his men, they started firing at them and he was killed in the process,” a source had told DAILY POST.

Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the Benue State Police PRO, Moses Yamu said there were two accounts on what led to the incident.

“The first account said he was killed by his people while they were sharing the cows looted from Fulani herdsmen.
"Another account said he was shot by Ogbai people after he had gone there to make arrest,” he said.

Asked what was their own finding, the police spokesman said, “On the second account, we don’t know why he went to the community to make arrest, as what? A police man or soldier because we have soldiers stationed in Agatu and if at all there is any problem, he should have reported to them.

"So, I don’t really believe that account. I think the first account is more like it, though we are still making our findings to arrest those behind the attack.‎"

PoliticsCoup: Pro-democracy Group Warns Junaid Mohammed Over Inciting Comments by owukpa(op): 1:23pm On May 18, 2017
A pro-democracy group, under the aegis of Guardian of Democracy Movement (GDM), has warned elder statesman and ex-lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed against making any inciting comment that could lead to unrest in the nation.

GDM strongly warned Mohammed to mind any utterance that could lead to military intervention.

Muhammed had opined that should anything happen to President Muhammadu Buhari, the North will insist on another two terms in 2019.

According to Muhammed, “The zoning in the Peoples Democratic Party has not worked. Now it is trending in the All Progressives Congress. It is either we fix it or ship it out altogether. If that is not done, then you have to go back and redress it by saying that in the course of zoning and rotation, (Umaru) Yar’Adua died in office.”

Reacting, while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Abuja, Mr. Sabo Odeh, National Co-cordinator of the group, noted that Mohammed’s criticism of the Buhari administration has become so commonplace that no one is moved by them any more.

According to him, “We like to set it out clearly here that we decided to speak at this early stage, which some people may consider as hasty or premature, but we know that scenarios like our country is dealing with require proactiveness. Things must not be allowed to degenerate beyond repairs before critical interventions are made.

“Some few days ago now, President Muhammadu Buhari, notified the nation vide a letter to the National Assembly, explaining his trip to the United Kingdom for a follow up treatment with his doctors. This honest step taken in keeping with the constitution has become the subject of ceaseless abuse by people that are eager to start or reboot their political careers. The discounting of morality to explore the ill health of a leader is something that leaves those engaged in the act pitiable as they should be.

“This same understanding that desperation for relevance is behind the uninformed responses that some people have made about President Buhari’s health however does not extend to Dr. Junaid Mohammed, a former House of Representatives member and self-appointed critic of the current administration.
Buhari will sign budget not Osinbajo – Ita Enang overrules Osinbajo’s aide

“He practically was calling for a coup, including making conjectures that amounted to him being categorical in wishing death on the president. This is bizarre beyond comprehension.

“Much as we like to dismiss Dr Junaid Mohammed’s grave error as what it is, based on information in public domain about moves being made by some self seeking and over ambitious individuals, the admission a few hours ago by the military hierarchy after studying the various intelligence that people are approaching soldiers for political reasons has forced us to begin connecting dots. We can see where the politician’s confidence is coming from as he apparently thinks he can compromise a few soldiers to act along the subversive ways he has been hinting at for a while.

“We are telling Junaid Mohammed and his co-travelers that he is not speaking for any part of the country even though he couched his utterances in a way that suggests he has the mandate of a section of the country for his provocative remarks. He is on his own and if he is working with anyone, such persons who are anti-democratic should know that they risk jail terms as many have observed that they are extending their nocturnal meetings to some misguided elements in the Armed Forces to co-opt them into this unholy venture.

“Our hope is that Junaid Mohammed is not by any chance trying to have his own Cote d’Ivoire military mutiny here in Nigeria because there are laws.

“He is not a supporter of the President neither is he a democrat and should not extend his hatred for the President to this venture that can set the country on fire.

“The news we have for Junaid Mohammed and those queued behind him is that nothing will happen to the President; he therefore has no business fueling such a demonic agenda that has no constitutional bearing anywhere in our statutes books. Even if he shouts himself hoarse it would be for nothing for his shouts would have been in vain when Mr President returns to resume the duty Nigerians entrusted to him.
Buhari: Coup looms in Nigeria, forces will push Osinbajo to resign – Fani-Kayode

BusinessRe: N11bn Oil Scam: DSS Trying To Blackmail Me – Ifeanyi Ubah Finally Opens Up by owukpa(m): 8:27am On May 09, 2017
You actually copied DAILY POST word for word... laziness.

Flashreporters:
The chairman of Capital Oil and Gas limited, Andy Ubah has described his arrest by the Department of State Services as a complete attempt to blackmail him.

The oil magnate said the claim by the DSS that he was involved in theft of petrol kept by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in his tank farm in Lagos was a wrong accusation.

The agency on Friday picked up Ubah over his connection with the missing petroleum product, which was valued at over N11bn.

The department said Ubah’s action amounted to economic sabotage, with “capacity to negatively impact on national economy”.

Reacting, however, in a statement issued on Monday and obtained by DAILY POST, Ubah said his arrest by the DSS was a breach of his fundamental right to liberty, freedom of movement and association.

The statement signed by the management of the company said all the allegations leveled against their boss, Ubah were false and unfounded.

The statement reads in full.

The incarceration of our Chairman by DSS is unlawful, a disregard for the rule of law and a breach of Dr. Ubah’s fundamental right to liberty, freedom of movement and association.

A similar invitation was extended to Dr. Ubah on the 24th of March 2017, which he honoured as a law-abiding citizen only to be detained in DSS offices in Abuja for almost a month.

During that period a Fundamental Rights Enforcement Application was brought on behalf of Dr. Ubah at the Federal High Court Lagos as Suit No. FHC/L/C/487/2017.

Although an order was made for his production in court in that action, rather than obey the order, officers DSS, using a combination of coercion and cajoling, constrained him to discontinue that action upon an understanding that he would be immediately released. He was not released until over two weeks after he had complied and completely discontinued that action.

Upon his release on the 13th of April 2017, it was now discovered that during his incarceration he had been coerced into executing various documents committing the company to make certain payments and pledge some assets to NNPC Retail Limited. He was also made to execute a document in favour of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

As soon as his doctors permitted access to him an action was brought at the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court seeking, inter alia, an order to restrain DSS and others from further inviting, arresting or threatening to arrest or detain him in regard to the NNPC/NNPC Retail Ltd matters.

The processes originating the new action filed as Suit No. FHC/L/CS/644/2017, were served on the DSS on the 28th of April 2017.

Dr. Ubah’s lawyers wrote to the DSS pointing out that any preemption of the judicial intervention during the pendency of the new action is totally irregular, a disregard of the rule of law, the constitutional guarantees of separation of powers and breach of the doctrine of Lis Pendens.

Rather than respect its constitutional and statutory limits the DSS has brazenly abducted Dr. Ubah and commenced a media blitz to justify their illegality.

THE ACCUSATIONS OF THEFT AND ECONOMIC SABOTAGE ARE COMPLETELY FALSE.

For the avoidance of doubt and to put the records straight, NNPC owes Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited over N16 billion represented as follows:

$5,540,000 (N2.2billion) – unpaid berthing fees for NNPC vessels that called at our Jetty

$2,952,555 (N1billion) – invoice for chartered vessels to carryout STS operations Lagos offshore to ferry product (PMS) to storage at the request of NNPC since 2015

N1.170billion – amount owed to Capital Oil & Gas Industries Limited for throughput services from March to October 2016

N3.146billion – payment made to NNPC for 26,820million litres of PMS vide Pro-forma Invoice No. 53598 which is yet to be delivered to us

N2.0billion – Payment to NNPC in April to facilitate the release of the Managing Director and engender reconciliation which NNPC reneged on.

N6.266billion – N0.80k and N0.40 Jetty Throughput charge on over 7 billion liters dispensed for NNPC by us.

On economic sabotage, it is unimaginable that a company which has stood by NNPC and by extension the country at very critical petroleum supply crises can now be accused of engaging in activities to undermine the effective distribution of petroleum products across the country having thwarted a nationwide industrial action called by oil marketers during the epic inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

PoliticsProminent Nigerians Plotting ‘civilian Coup’ Against Buhari – Groups by owukpa(op): 4:05pm On May 06, 2017
The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations for Good Governance has claimed that some prominent Nigerians are currently plotting what it termed ‘civilian coup’ against President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group, at a two day Consultative General Assembly held in Abuja during the week stated that since the president has not told anybody he is unfit to lead, no one should force him out of power.

Representatives of 40 CSOs, which included the New Initiative for Credible Leadership, the Advocates of Social Justice for All, Lawyers of Mercy, Media Without Border, Beyond Leadership Legacy Foundation, described the calls for Buhari’s resignation as distraction to the current government.

The groups in a statement jointly signed by its Secretary, Joyce Adamu and Rev Steven Onwu Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee passed a vote of confidence on the president to continue to oversee the nation’s political affairs.

The statement said, “In the past days, several notable persons have breached decorum to make demands that have no anchor in the Nigerian Constitution (as amended) like asking the president to take a medical leave.

“These calls are equivalent of civilian coup attempts since they are aimed at forcing President Buhari out of office over ill health that can befall anyone. The people making the demands based such on hearsay and rumors published as exclusive stories by less than credible online sites,” the statement added.

The statement further noted that no organ of state is currently suffering directly or indirectly as a result of Buhari’s health situation, adding that able appointees the president were running the various aspects they are entrusted with successfully.

“In the same space of time that wicked rumors are flying around, wife of the President Mrs. Aisha Buhari declared that the severity of her husband’s health was being blown out of proportion.

“Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele briefed the President on the apex bank’s currency management and relayed how the Forex stability excited President Buhari. Such brief could only have been presented to a lucid and healthy person.

“There is also no iota of constitutional crisis so far created by the ill health of the president as being propounded by some critics,” the statement further stated.

While calling on Nigerians to continue to pray for Buhari for quick recovery, the groups warned some of them against spreading false story on the health of the president.

“We urge Nigerians to pray so that God will grant the President quick recovery and the country healing from the wounds inflicted by saboteurs.

“We also want to caution those spreading falsehood to desist from such especially in view of the negative consequences their action can have on citizens’ morale nationwide.

“Reactions based on this falsehood, like pressuring the president to proceed on medical leave, must be discontinued. Nigerians should only respond base on facts as conjectures would only complicate things for the country,” the group warned.
