babaearly: Its you that needs to think first. . or better yet use the google (sorry McCain) Balance of trade or Balance of payments simply means exports versus Imports or the value of Exports minus Imports The USA runs Trade deficits running into billions of dollars yearly While Nigeria runs a Trade surplus or imports less than we make from our Exports Thats all. . . |

Omo_Tier1: What is important in Finance is the trajectory of the reserves. . in other-words if u put a chart up its rising steadily from left to right The steady rise has to do with high oil prices due to the war in Libya which started in january 2011. . so theres nothing political about the timing also if u cared to know the accountant general always released the figures for the ECA at the end of every FAAC meeting. . u should have looked for the numbers yourself I am aware of internal or local debt at $32Billion which is actually a very good thing and needs to rise. . because those are Naira denominated bonds creation of a Local Sovereign Bond market and yield curve for Nigeria means we are joining the developed countries in deepening our financial system sorry but the business community is solidly behind GEJ. . .and there are no other stable west African countries Nigeria is the big dawg. . .$35 Billion in External reserves and $7 Billion in ECA is larger than Ghanas economy(2nd largest in WA) at $18 Billion dollars While our $216 Billion dollars Nominal GDP Economy is number 41 in the whole world and 31 if u use PPP Finally GEJ will set up a SWF to replace the ECA. . .This alone should earn him your vote if u were not so partisan If this was set up during buharis days in 1983( something he cold have done by fiat. . instead he concentrated on OIC membership), we would not be where we are today. . . Nigeria, Iraq and Ecuador are the only OPEC members without a SWF. . Jonathan looks set to change that. . .he is the man lol. . . |

Nigeria’s Labor Party Backs Jonathan in Presidential Vote (1) Share Business ExchangeTwitterFacebook| Email | Print | A A A By Elisha Bala-Gbogbo April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Nigeria’s opposition Labor Party said it will support President Goodluck Jonathan, the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, in the April 16 presidential vote. Jonathan “is the most qualified candidate,” Dan Nwanyanwu, national chairman of the Labor Party, told reporters today in the capital, Abuja. The party, which won 11 seats in last week’s parliamentary election, will not field a candidate for the presidential vote, he said. Eighteen candidates will challenge Jonathan in this week’s poll, including Muhammadu Buhari, a northern Muslim and former military ruler who is representing the Congress for Progressive Change. Nuhu Ribadu, the former head of the country’s anti- corruption agency, is standing as a candidate for the Action Congress of Nigeria. The All Progressive Grand Alliance Party, Nigeria’s third- biggest opposition group, will also back Jonathan in the vote, Chairman Victor Umeh, said on Feb. 11. Nigeria is Africa’s most populous nation and the continent’s biggest oil producer. ROBERT BESSELING of Al-Jazeera just made it known on the international news channel that GEJ is unable to account for 22billion dollars of money from the excess crude accouint. .what a shame . .nigeria's failures being analyzed by foreigners. . Thats the craziest lie i heard in ages. . lol. . .so if Al jazeera the corrupt biased Arab channel tells u anything u believe?. . The money went to the 36 states. . including the ACN states u so praise. . EXTERNAL RESERVES I will be brief. . .The CBN manages the External reserves. . and it has told u that there is elevated demand for dollars due to the political risk inherent in these elections. . .The CBN offers dollars for sale on the WDAS twice weekly. . last week it offered $1 Billion( thats $600million and $400million) The CBN has to try and meet this elevated demand so as to maintain the level of the naira and not depreciate it depreciating the naira will lead to imported inflation and more poverty for our people The CBN has also introduced Foreign exchange forwards and derivatives last month to try and smooth out demand for dollars. . right now it offers 1 month,2 months and 3months forward contracts. . Sanusi has said that at the rate the reserves are building it should be significantly higher than it is now by yr end. . .right now External reserves are at $34.7 Billion dollars and rising EXCESS CRUDE ACCOUNT The ECA was set up to save excess oil earnings. . .however in times of economic crises like during the world financial meltdown it is expected to be used as a counter cyclical measure to prevent the country going into recession and augment government finances Thats exactly what happened and why the money was spent. . .However the Government is trying to set up a SWF to replace the ECA. . .The bill has just been sent to the National assembly and if passed this year it will help make our excess oil earnings better and professionally managed note that Nigeria and Iraq are the only OPEC nations without a Sovereign wealth fund. . .Pls go and ask Buhari why he didnt set one up for the country back in 1983 when he ruled?. . . .it is now left for Jonathan 30yrs late to set up. . . Finally The Excess crude account has grown to $7Billion dollars(as at yesterday) from about $2 Billion in January 2011. . .pls give jonathan credit for that The man is lucky and good for Nigeria. . immediately he comes in oil prices rise. . lol pls see link below from todays businessday. . . http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/excess-crude-account-rebounds-hits-6-9bn/89484/ OIL REVENUES AND OIL EARNINGS As for your misguided mathematics about our oil earnings. . what u did above by multiplying 2million barrels by the price of oil is plain wrong If u do that u get our oil revenues or sales. . but every financial guru( i guess u are not one). . knows that sales is not equal to earnings. . . what i am trying to say is that oil companies make the sales and pay taxes, royalties plus NNPCs share of the PSC/ Joint ventures For instance the deep offshore where most of our oil production is taking place we only get 35% of the total sales plus taxes. . because we gave the companies generous concessions so as to develop those fields as for the difference between the budgeted $65 dollar/ barrel and the current $120 dollar per barrel?. . .well that goes to the ECA for now. . and it has ballooned to $7Billion dollars in just 3months. . .showing that Jonathan is doing the right thing for Nigeria. . . and Nigeria has much to show for its oil wealth. . of which ii earns the least in Africa by the way. . .when u do a per capita oil production. . .Libya is 6million ppl. . producing 1.5million barrels. . Angola is 25Million people. . producing 1.7Million Barrels. . while Nigeria is 150Million strong. . producing a little over 2million barrels. . .so Per capita wise. . .we dont produce much and oil cannot go too far for all these ppl. . even in libya with only 6million there is chronic unemployment Thats why the FGN under GEJ has proposed a gas revolution that will lead to over 1million jobs. . .and diversify/power our economy cheers |

NASS Poll: ACN Presidential Candidate Ribadu Beaten In Adamawa Font size: THEWILL. 11/04/2011 22:15:00 PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE OF THE ACTION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA (ACN), MALLAM NUHU RIBADU. YOLA, April 11, (THEWILL) – The Presidential flag bearer of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu suffered an embarrassing defeat in his homestate Adamawa in last Saturday’s National Assembly election. According to the final results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, Ribadu lost his Senatorial district and two other Senatorial dirstricts to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The ACN managed to secure only two Federal Constituency seats out of eight seats in play allowing the PDP take five and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) winning one seat. In Adamawa-Central, a former Director General of the National Boundary Commission, Dahiru Bobbo of the Labour Party was trounced by PDP’s Bello Tukur. Tukur, a former Deputy Governor, who is currently the Chief of Staff to Governor Murtala Nyako, polled 95, 806 votes to beat Bobbo, who scored 78, 424 votes. Fatima Abubakar, a former ambassador and retired permanent secretary and candidate of the ACN, came third with 63, 271 votes. In Adamawa North Senatorial Dictrict, Bindo Jibrilla (PDP) defeated a former governor of the state, Mr. Boni Haruna (ACN) with more than 5, 000 votes. Jibrilla polled 75, 112 votes, while Haruna of the ACN scored 70, 890 votes. The candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Abba Mohammed, scored 22, 866 votes in the contest to replace incumbent Senator Mohammed Mana. In the Adamawa South senatorial race, Ahmed Barrata (PDP) emerged winner defeating his rivals. The ACN however won in Michika/Madagali where its candidate Ganama Titsi defeated PDP's Binta Masi-Garba with 36, 033 votes. Masi-Garba had served three terms at the House of Assembly. He polled 24, 520 votes. The ACN also won in Gombi/Hong, where its candidate, Haske Hananiya defeated the incumbent Emmanuel Bello (PDP). Hananiya polled 34, 529 while Bello polled 18, 070 votes. The CPC won in Mubi-North/Mubi-South. Meanwhile, the state Governor, Murtala Nyako has assured President Goodluck Jonathan of more than 80 per cent of Adamawa votes in Saturday's presidential election. The governor made the pledge in Yola in a chat with journalists over the outcome of the NASS election. "Even against our own son, Atiku Abubakar, we voted for Jonathan. We have no reason to reject him on Saturday. We appeal to the people of Adamawa State to vote massively for him. We assure 75 per cent of the votes or even up to 95 per cent," the governor added. Nyarko expressed joy that the PDP did well by retaining the three senatorial seats and at least five House of Reps seats. "For us in Adamawa, this is a good performance. It is a good result. This is how an election should be and I am very happy for the free and fair election. Nobody prevented anybody from casting votes; moreso, each vote counted. "The turnout was impressive," Nyarko added. http://thewillnigeria.com/politics/8195-NASS-Poll-ACN-Presidential-Candidate-Ribadu-Beaten-Adamawa.html |
