Politics › Ayuba Wabba: Labour Party Belongs To NLC by Paraman(op): 11:30pm On Mar 21, 2024 |
A former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba, has stated that the Labour Party was formed by the NLC as a platform for members of the union to exercise and defend their rights.
Wabba made the statement on Thursday during an interview on the Channels Television programme, Politics Today, where he addressed the crisis between the union and the party.
In a letter dated Tuesday, March 19, 2024, the NLC had instructed state councils and political commissions to picket Labour Party secretariats across the country, following a virtual meeting of the NLC National Political Commission and the leadership of the NLC State Councils and State Political Committees.
The PUNCH also reported that the NLC on Wednesday, stormed the party’s national secretariat, to protest the LP’s national convention planned for the end of the month, and to demand the sacking of the National Chairman, Julius Abure.
Addressing these issues, the former NLC president clarified that the party belonged to the NLC, in line with the major objective of the labour union.
He said, “First and foremost, the Labour Party was formed by the NLC, in the realisation of a clear objective in the Constitution of the NLC. Under Article 3 and Item 1, the major objective of the NLC is to promote, defend and advance the economic, political, and social rights and well-being of Nigerian workers and pensioners.
“We own the Labour Party; it was formed under the leadership of Pascal Bafyau, as Party for Social Democracy. Under Adams, organs decided to change the name to the Labour Party, and the first chairman was S.O.Z Ejiofor who later handed over to Dan Anyanwu.
“So, the essence of forming the party is to make sure that workers, pensioners, farmers, can be able to have a platform to exercise their rights, which is enshrined in Section 40 of the Constitution. The party was formed by NLC, and registered by NLC. It’s like you built a house, you got a C-of-O, then you rented the apartment, so you must have an interest in how the property is managed.”
Wabba also explained that the basis of the dispute between the NLC and the LP was that the party had not honoured the contents of a consent agreement brokered by the Independent National Electoral Commission, and signed in June 2022, in which both parties agreed to the inauguration of a Board of Trustee, to be headed by the pioneer chairman of the party, and the conduct of a national convention.
According to him, these informed the decision of the NLC to picket secretariats of the party, to “draw the attention” of the LP “to respect the sanctity of the June 27, 2022, agreement, brokered by INEC”. https://punchng.com/labour-party-belongs-to-nlc-says-wabba/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social

Politics › Consider States Peculiarities In Deciding New Minimum Wage, NGF Urges Committee by Paraman(op): 7:53pm On Mar 21, 2024 |
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has urged the National Minimum Wage Committee to take into account present circumstances, unique characteristics of individual states, and the resulting effects on both government and private sector employers’ ability to pay when determining the wage amount.
Labour unions have said the existing national minimum wage of N30,000 is no longer viable, citing the steep inflation rate of 29.9 per cent reported by the National Bureau of Statistics in the country.
As a result, early January, the Federal Government launched the tripartite committee responsible for deliberating on the national minimum wage.
Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the 37-member panel at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja.
Comprising representatives from federal and state governments, the private sector, and organised labour, the committee’s mandate is to propose a revised national minimum wage for the nation.
Following consultations nationwide, workers have requested varying minimum wage rates across different geopolitical zones. As a result, the Federal Government Minimum Wage Panel has initiated the compilation of reports from public hearings conducted in various zones.
NGF, in a communique issued at the conclusion of its virtual meeting, and signed by its Chairman, Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, dated Wednesday and made available to the press on Thursday, emphasized the importance of incorporating state policing as a crucial amendment in the ongoing 1999 Constitutional amendment process to address a fundamental flaw in the national security framework.
The communique read in part, “The Forum commiserated with the Governor of Delta State, H.E Sheriff Oborevwori, over the communal clash between Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area and Okolaba in the Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State, and which led to the death of many including 16 military personnel. While condemning the heinous act, members observed a minute of silence for the souls of the departed.
“Members reviewed the progress of the National Minimum Wage Committee and ongoing multi- stakeholder engagements towards agreeing on a fair minimum wage.
“Members urged the NMWC to consider the current realities, individual state peculiarities, and consequential impact on the capacity of the government as well as private sector employers to pay. Members also emphasized the need for proposals to be data- driven and evidence-based.
“The forum highlighted the need for state policing as a critical amendment in the ongoing 1999 Constitutional amendment proceedings to correct a fundamental flaw in the national security architecture.”
The forum reviewed states’ advancement in implementing business-friendly reforms, such as enhancing land administration, fostering Public Private Partnerships, promoting investments, improving infrastructure, and refining regulatory environments through the World Bank’s State Action on Business Enabling Reforms Programme for Results.
It added, “Members discussed the growing concern raised by the United States Embassy over illegal and fraudulent intercountry adoption of Nigerian children by US citizens including systemic fraud and corruption, child- buying, the imprisonment of pregnant women, and unreliable or non-existent documentation. Members pledged to engage the relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government in a bid to address the situation.
“The forum discussed the progress made by states in implementing various business enabling reforms including those aimed at improving land administration, Public Private Partnership (PPP), investment promotion frameworks, business-enabling infrastructure and regulatory environment under the World Bank supported State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) Program for Result. Members were implored to leverage available support within the program in implementing related reforms to stimulate further economic growth.” https://punchng.com/consider-states-peculiarities-in-deciding-new-minimum-wage-ngf-urges-committee/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social#google_vignette

That is Ajaero's plan.
Imagine Tinubu or Buhari saying they own APC when there are competing interests. That is how NLC is claiming to own Labour Party.
Never in Nigeria's history have we seen an NLC President so openly partisan.
Oshiomole only became partisan after his NLC tenure. Same as Peter Esele of TUC. Why is Ajaero impatient? NLC created the LP, they own it. |

Did you know that A CHIMNEY SWEEPER earns more money than a MEDICAL DOCTOR in the United Kingdom?
Just imagine this, someone who enters your kitchen to wash your chimney, who will be looking black from head to toe as he works . . . Earning more than a medical doctor in any big public or private hospital
A furniture carpenter in the UK earns more than a bank manager IN THE SAME UK . . . You think its a lie? Ask questions
Did you know that an apprentice brick layer (Mason) gets paid £5 per each block he lays in his job? If he lays 100 blocks that is equal to £500 pounds. And he can do this numerous times a day.
Then all of a sudden, the wife of a drug baron who forfeited over $450,000 to a foreign government opened her mouth to abuse Nigerians who travel abroad to wash chimneys, work in building sites as masons or become a carpenter.
All of you people supporting APC are devil's and God will keep your payment very well to be given to you when the time is right.
Rubbish A person doing menial jobs in the UK does not earn close to what a person doing a white collar jobs is earning. You can claim they earn more than some Nigerians doing white collar jobs. |

Politics › Nigeria’s Economy Gradually Reviving, Says Information Minister, Mohammed Idris by Paraman(op): 12:25pm On Mar 21, 2024 |
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has called on Nigerians to have faith in the administration of President Bola Tinubu as it is making efforts to address the nation’s challenges.
He said the nation’s economy was gradually reviving under Tinubu.
Idris spoke on Wednesday during an Iftar (breaking of fast) with media executives in Kano.
According to him, the present administration under Tinubu is working hard to address the challenges that he said would soon be over.
He said the President had introduced policies and programmes that would uplift the well-being of Nigerians.
“Nigerians should have trust and confidence in the leadership of President Bola Tinubu to ensure successful implementation of the policies and programmes of his administration, ” he said.
He said the Ministry of Information and National Orientation was committed to ensuring a total overhaul of the agencies under the ministry with a view to enhancing the sector.
The minister disclosed that the administration is working hard to revive the nation’s refineries, stressing that the rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt Refinery would soon be completed for production to commence.
Idris, who expressed dismay at how the Central Bank of Nigeria was mismanaged by the previous leadership of the bank, noted that the administration of Tinubu had restored the lost glory of the apex bank through the adoption of apt policies.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu has started yielding positive results because the economy of the country is gradually reviving,” he added . https://punchng.com/nigerias-economy-gradually-reviving-says-minister/?utm_source=telegram&utm_medium=social |

So is the life of Nigeria army officers killed more important than residents' of okuoma and neighbouring Bayelsa killed by army? Even people like sowore has apologized for spreading this propaganda, but you have chosen to continue spreading this fake news. I'm not going to support the military if they go on extrajudicial killings of the people of okuama, but I see no big deal in the military taking over lands in the military.
