The BMWs were purchased on lease from a monopolist company.

Now the 'activists' can either get back to addressing weightier matters, for instance:
How come Fasola's 3 cars cost N200m apiece, although the complete funds were available upfront.

Or, they could Bit.ch, Mutiny, and Whine (OMG, BMW!) till Thy Kingdom Come

As an aside, Princess Oduah, "If you see me passing by, don't be shy to say Hi" like my Poko Baby aka Tontoh Dikeh, would say.

geeez: [s]To start with, the SW has a much higher population than the SE making incidents more likely. The report should have done a crime per person assessment as well.

You also have to consider the fact that a substantial volume of the crimes committed in the SW have south easter origins.

If you alloted perpetrators to their states of origin, you will discover how alien vices like kidnapping, robbery and rape are in the SW

Two days ago, six kidnappers from the SE were sentenced to 27yrs in prison. Till date, no one from the SW has been convicted of kidnapping in the SE.

You will recall the Cynthia incidents and you will agree with me that no one from the SW has been convicted of rape in the SE[/s]
Jibber jabber!

Doesn't change the fact that one is most likely to be ra.ped and kidnapped in the SW
There is crime everywhere but the capital of kidnapping is in SS/SE, not SW.

Cleen is run by Nigerians and their input is bias considering their campaign is strategically positioned to gain inroad and win contracts for crime control in Lagos. If they said its SE or SS nobody will pay them attention.. They need relevance and crime fighting is big money in Lagos.....they want some of that contract in their pocket.

Simple!!
You see your life!
You want us to take your convictions over facts.
Feel free to point to the SE as a kidnap capital but you must have factual, statistical evidence.

Your claim that the US Dept of Security didn't list SW states doesn't hold water. States were listed based on the incidence of oil-related kidnapping. Tell me the SW isn't home to ritual kidnapping, political kidnapping, kidnapping for ransom, kidnapping one's enemies?

Your kinsman didn't think the SW had skeletons to hide when he pushed the Enugu thread to the FP.

I'd thank him to extend my thread the same courtesy.

What is funny about charts and facts and figures and comparative reasoninghuh

I demand this thread is returned to the politics section where it belongs.

Kairoseki77: Then please explain why on the thread about Enugu being the crime capital, every comment is hurling abuses at Yorubas.

Why did you feel the need to create this thread in response to the one on FP?
Notice the snide comments about Enugu on that same thread such as those by ilugunboy and the numerous likes it garnered.

Besides, if Seun Osewa let a report like that on his FP, then he's certainly sending a message.

Kairoseki77: Dude, do you even know what the MacArthur Foundation is?

It is an international organization, run by oyibos, that is HIGHLY respected. They are almost equal to the Nobel Comittee in prestige.

Every year they give out MacArthur "Genius Grants" to incredible individuals in various fields like biomedical science, writing, etc.

They are not a Nigerian organization, or a tribal organization. CLEEN is also not a tribal organization. It is a civil society group that focuses on improving the Nigerian Police force. On their website you will see that they are based in Abuja, and that they have many Igbos in their executive list.

You are chasing ghosts.
I'm aware of these facts, but what does it have to do with anything.

My inferences are based on the research in question.

It's not like I snapped my fingers and created the findings above.

Kairoseki77: Sadly, I wasn't able to be on the first page of the other thread.

Let me ask you something. Was the report that came out today the fault of Yorubas?

Did Yorubas create the report? No, the MacArthur Foundation did.

Did Yorubas commit the crimes in the SE? No, People living in the SE did.

What on earth do Yorubas have to do with that report?

You are only mad because they said Ogun has the lowest rate of crime in Nigeria. You really need to take a step back and shine your eyes.

You are basically crying that crime in the SE is Fashola's fault.
Kairoseki my man!

I'm not antagonizing Yorubas.

I just thought to compare the SW and SE based on the figures and facts from the above survey.

Crime › Southwest, Kidnap Capital Of Nigeria by passion007(op):
Interesting revelations emerged from a crime study by the National Crime and Victimization Survey, 2013:

1. You're Four (4) times more likely to be r.aped in the SW than in the SE

2. You're Three (3) times more likely to be robbed in Ondo, than in Ebonyi

3. You're more likely to be kidnapped in the SW than anywhere else in Southern Nigeria.

4. You're Three (3) times more likely to be murdered in the SW than in the SE

5.Your phone is twice (2) at risk of being stolen in Ekiti than in Ebonyi

6. Your car is 2.5 times more at risk of being stolen in Lagos than in the SE.

7. You're twice at risk of being the victim of armed violence (other than robbery) in Lagos than in the SE

8. If you reside in Ogun or Ondo, you're much more likely to live in fear of crime than if you reside in Enugu or Ebonyi

The South East is certainly one of the safest place in Nigeria. The figures are verifiable, numbers don't lie.

Spread the word! Broadcast on BBM, and share with your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and Google Plus.

Crime › Re: Enugu, Crime Capital Of Nigeria – Survey by passion007:
This is quite an 'interesting' study.
I encourage everyone to take a look at the original results of the report, not the summary given by Premium Times (You'll find the PDF at the Source link), if for nothing else, to disprove the notion that if you wanna hide something from a black man, put it in a book.
The original, unadulterated results are revealing, and I must say kudos to the researchers.
Let me post the findings here:

To begin with, Crime is a spectrum, from phone theft, to physical assault, to kidnapping, to murder.

Fear of Crime(National Average: 72%, ENUGU: 83%)
OGUN (94%) ONDO (94%) GOMBE (93%) YOBE (91%) ANAMBRA (90%)

Actual Experience of Crime:
Robbery (National Average:18%, ENUGU: 19%)
Kaduna: 43%, Akwa Ibom 42%, Cross River 39%, Anambra 32%, Niger 31%

R.ape/Attempted R.ape ( National:5%, SE:1%)
SS-10%, NE-6%, SW 4%, NW-4%, Lagos-3%, NC-3%

Kidnapping/Attempted Kidnapping (National:3%, SE:4%)
SW-5%, Lagos-4%, SE-4%, SS-4%, NW-3%, NE-3%, NC-2%

Physical Assault (National: 33%)
Enugu (84%), Ebonyi (77%), Rivers (58%), Anambra (50%), Ogun (38%)

Domestic Violence (National: 30%)
SE:43%, SW:35%, NE:35%, SS:26%, NC:19%, NW: 19%

Attempted Murder (National:5%, SE:2%)
NE:8%, SS:7%, NW:7%, SW:6%, NC:3%, SE:2%

Theft of Mobile Phone (|National Average: 45%, ENUGU: 45%)
Taraba-64%, Kwara _59%, Abia-57%, Lagos-55%, Kaduna-54%

Car Theft (National: 4%, SE:2%)
NW-6%, SS-5%, Lagos_5%, NE-4%, SW-3%, SE-2%, NC-1%

Armed Violence other than Robbery (National: 4%, SE:1%)
NE:11%, SS-9%, NC-3%, NW-3%, Lagos-2%, SW-1%, SE-1%

My Conclusion:
I have taken the stress of posting these findings as they appear in the original study.
If I have learnt anything from this thread, it's that the campaign of calumny against SouthEasterners is far from imagined. I dont know the guys at Premium Times, and don"t want to speculate what their intents are, but they should certainly be taken seriously.
Igbos need to find out the guys at Premium Times ASAP, those guys are out to destroy you by peddling lies, and distorting research findings to align with their lies .
After all, based on the research findings:

SW is the Kidnap Capital of Nigeria

Besides, a few months ago, we had this report:
“Today, I can confirm, as the Inspector-General of Police, that Enugu State has the lowest crime rate in Nigeria. I also confirm that Enugu is one the safest places in Nigeria, and this fact is buttressed by statistics and empirical evidence

“This is the result of the wonderful partnership between the Enugu State Government, the Police and other security agencies”.-Inspector Gen of Police, Muhammed Abubakar,

bigfrancis21: I was referring to the Yoruba 'Igbo' for 'bush' which has falling intonations and not 'ganja'. Igbo(ganja) has all rising intonations, Igbo tribe(the way we pronounce it when speaking English has rising and middle intonations) and Igbo tribe(the way we pronounce it natively in Igbo) has faliing accents.
We're on the same page.
I believe Okeigbo means 'bushy hills'.
Culture › Re: The Tribes Of Nigeria Are Fake. by passion007: 1:06pm On Oct 20, 2013
bigfrancis21: Yea that's because Igbo when pronounced when speaking English has rising and middle patterns but when pronounced natively in Igbo it is pronounced with falling accents, which is the proper pronunciation. Ask any Igbo speaker to pronounce Igbo natively the way its pronounced when speaking Igbo, and you'll be amazed.
The pronunciation of the Yoruba 'igbo' actually is same for igbo (ganja, weed), I think. I'm speculating based on how Okeigbo, a place in Ondo state, is pronounced.
Politics › Re: President Jonathan Live In Ekiti and Ondo by passion007: 10:05pm On Oct 19, 2013
That Fayemi guy sure knows how to take advantage of opportunities. He soon turned the convocation to a couple requests:

1 Mr President, when are we being paid for the FG roads we fixed?

2 What is the status of the Ekiti airport?

3 Ekiti is yet to have a Federal Secretariat.

Although he was unduly confrontational in his choice of words, even I cringed.

Mr President assured him that every state in Nigeria will get an airstrip at the very least.

That the Federal Sec stalled following the sack of minister of lands, I think.

And that, FG will clear the balance spent fixing roads.

GEJ is a timid President, no doubt. But I think I love the man.
Watching him gives me the impression we actually have a human being as President.

0monnakoda: You are right the truth is somewhere in between. If you eat moderate amounts of palm oil I think i is fine and in my view better than margarine, butter ,ghee or lard. The other thing is freshness. If you live abroad you could be using oil a few years old. I guess this is not the best but perhaps research is needed.
Anyway our diet in Nigeria is generally not based on fried foods and so we are more likely to use palm oil in Yam Pottage,Beans and Soups.
I was able to find a study by Ibegbulem and Chikezie, both biochemists, but which involved work with rats fed with palm oil, palm kernel oil, and a third control group.

They opened by stating that palm oil contains 50% saturated fats, and 50% Unsaturated fats. Hence, said it was not atherogenic.

But the work was headed for controversy as the rats fed with palm oil diets, and those fed palm kernel oil showed a lower HDL (good cholesterol) than those in the control group, with Palm Kernel oil effecting a greater reduction.

But, LDL (bad cholesterol) levels in the rats fed palm oil were the same as for the control group, while showing a 22% rise for the palm kernel oil group.

The researchers conclude that " the seeming non-atherogenic nature of palm oil may have been due to it's greater array of antioxidants"

If I've learnt anything from the study, it's to avoid palm kernel oil.

More work needs to be done, no doubt.

The arguments are supported by "facts" on both sides.
The US report would likely mask their vested interest, as would the Malaysia report. Both countries have a lot at stake if the world is convinced to dis/continue palm oil.

Where is the Nigerian report? Please provide a link to one.
We have food scientists, clinical dietitians, nutritionists and physicians.
Their honest take on this should be all that matters.

It's so easy to whip Nigerians into a frenzy like we are currently witnessing on NL, among those calling for her sack.
Dora Akunyili should be the last Igbo Wonder Woman; one can only be grateful to God that the attempt on her life failed (although her aide died, RIP). Had the assassins succeeded, Nigeria would have chanted funeral dirges and sang 'In Memoriam'.
Thankfully, Oduah is a realist and opted for bullet proof cars--smart move, Lady. As aviation safety begins at the terminal, so does your own safety begin with securing your life against the enemies of good policies. You have to be alive to work!

'll just re-post an earlier post of mine:

News reportage is like story telling, everyone tells it their way.
And, context is everything. This particular news deliberately failed to give the full text of what Ekweremadu said, preferring rather to let readers reach the logical conclusion that he is calling for Oduah's sack.
Truth is, he isn't.

Here's the full text:
The issue is that in some places, when something like this happens, people take responsibilities and resign. But as such things do not happen here, we will keep repeating ourselves. The problem here is about safety standards and not just the plane because the standards are same everywhere. There is the need to ensure that those responsible for the regulation of the industry do so,” Ekweremadu said.
Restating the reasons for the summon, Ekweremadu said: “We have tried a number of things including investigation, but the time has come to consider invoking power 67, Section 2 of our Constitution. We are inviting the Minister to brief us on the situation. It is not to indict anybody but to know what is happening in the aviation sector and how we can help to ensure that this does not continue.

We also need to make our roads and waterways safe and all these could be done if we do our works well
