It is very likely that Caicedo would not have developed the way he did at Brighton if we had bought him then. The same with Bellingham. Those players went to teams that could develop them and importantly give them game time. Also remember that even Brighton saw that Caicedo was not ready in the first season and loaned him out for game time.

A player like Amad for instance made a mistake joining us when he did. I would not advise any teenager to join us. Our scouting is not the best but even our player development is dreadful.

For example, our academy LB Alvaro Fernandez spent last season playing for a team that uses wingbacks. He did really well but what does that really tell us about his ability to play LB at senior level, and what does that teach him about the defensive solidity and positioning required as a LB. Mejbri spent the season playing for a Birmingham side with probably the lowest possession in the Championship, utilizing Sam Allardyce style kick and follow tactics. Apart from chasing after loose balls there was nothing else required from Birmingham midfielders. How does that develop him into a United level player.

DDG is bad at passing and commanding his box, that's something we have known right from when he joined the club especially the aspect that has to do with commanding his box.

Our defenders bar Martinez and Shaw are not very good at retaining possession under pressure and it gets worse when you go higher up the pitch.

We need an upgrade on DDG, Dalot/AWB, as cover for Shaw as Malacia does not look ready, a CM who can easily slot in as a DM, or maybe a DM and a CM, we also need a CF. Seeing that we have limited funds, as the coach which position will you prioritize? I think a percentage of those who are wrongly labeled as DDG fans include people who have looked at the team and think we can do with improvements in the outfield positions as a priority first before we look to replace DDG.

I don't think we will do any better if we spend £50m or more (Which will likely represent a chunk of our transfer budget) to sign a replacement for De Gea compared to improving the outfield positions. If Sheikh Jassim's bid is successful then, we can go all out, and bridge all the gaps we have rightly identified in the team.

Talking about transfers out of the club, I don't blame those who are at the forefront of it because as a big team, we pay more weekly wages meaning if a player does not perform, no top team will go after the player leaving us at the mercy of mid-table teams who simply can not match the wages we pay hence will ask that we reduce the transfer fee or keeping the player and paying his wages until his contract expires. Take Sancho for example, even second-rate teams like Spurs won't pay up to £60m for him looking at the wages he is on thus we have to keep and hope he miraculously improves or sell him for cheap.

They are odd scenarios though where we should have done better like the Lingard case.

I'd have Alvaro Fernandez do a year on loan in a PL side and can possibly return to take Malacia spot at a year.

Options - Dalot, AWB, Timbers, Kim, Varane, Lindelof, Martinez, Shaw, Malacia. we can agree that this equals Man City backline for quality and depth.

MF - Amrabat can be tireless like Caicedo, he's at the right age and is experienced, for free. we should be all over that.
Mount is here because it seem Ten Hag wants him. going by the penultimate season, I'd have no complaints but he's off a poor season albeit in a poor Chelsea side. for a young British player, you never know where next he's headed - could be for good, could be for the bins. I won't pay more than £47m though.
Rabiot again for free. will be an upgrade on McTominay certainly, as well as good technique and presence. tricky, but we are on a budget. a salary of nothing more than £200k or we walk. I'm surprised we didn't grab Tielemanns on a free though.

Options - Casemiro, Rabiot, Amrabat, Eriksen, Fred, Mount, Fernandes, Iqbal, Mainoo, Hannibal.

F - if Kane has any ambition bigger than some placebo scoring record, he should be putting his foot down for a move to United. this is a tailored jigsaw for Ten Hag but what do I know?
Højlund is an interesting prospect that can do decent game time and contribute straight away. at 20, he's got fierce and fearless characteristics like Garnacho.
Thuram is another young forward that can certainly hold his own upfront. for free, he takes up Martial's squad role for far lower wages and greater durability.
If we can't get Kane, I'd still have both young lads as they can fill in as wing forwards across the front as well.
Options - (Kane), Rashford, Garnacho, Greenwood, Antony, Højlund, Thuram, (Amad), Pellistri.

The truth is that we can't raise $150m from player sales as most clubs will prey on our desperation to sell. It is different when clubs want your players compared to when you are the one hawking them around. The wages too is a big concern so, the buying club will point to it in order to reduce the fee. We won't be selling to top clubs so, the wages issue will be a stumbling block.

For the incomings, is that Timber good?

Also, I'd take Muani over Thuram and one of Rabiot or Amrabat and not both. We also need a mirrored controller that will have Eriksen sit on the bench.
