NO WAY! if I get you right...am not gonna play that game with his mum. please note that my mother inlaw is the brain behind all this. They say a friend turn enemy had been hating since day one. I still can't find what I did to this woman to deserve this much hate from her. If he had been supportive, it would make some sense, bit this man had not been concern in any way. Am not playing that game of trying him with my kid. Don't ever leave your daughter because if you do, be assured of her hatred in the years to come. Don't give room to others to paint a distorted picture of who you are to your daughter and NEVER cut her off from her father as she needs the balance.

Madam, the truth remains that in as much as he legally married you, that child is completely his. Even if you refuse him the child today, time shall come when the child will ask you questions.........

That child is not completely his as the law recognizes the right and role of the mother. The child will always bear his name and irrespective of his relationship with the mother of his child, he should play the role of a present and providing father so that the child need not ask questions.

You do read divorce cases here, where the magistrate do say the man should pay N5,000 monthly for their child's upkeep, though I do wonder what N5,000 can take care of!

Thank you. Love got me in this o. But my child, I can't see a genuine reason why any law should favour this man after all he's done to me. Good thing is I am out of Nigeria with my child, all thanks to well meaning people on this forum who stood by me in thick and thin of this trouble. I committed no crime having a child for him after marriage neither did I commit a crime by surviving a C-section to bear him a child. So what is now my crime that after he has made me a single mother, he is bent on stealing the only comfort I have left?

As long as you have not been certified mentally fragmented and proof of his limited financial provision towards the upkeep of the child so far, a good lawyer should get the court to award you custody and get him to make monthly payments for the child's support while he also get to spend time with the child.

Sighs....Hope it ends for the best.

The sad thing is that parents, (and, believe me you, mothers are most culpable) who repeatedly engage in this terrorizing act do not in many cases even realize the insidious effects their continued verbal assault have on their children's psyche and overall well-being.

Children are suggestible creatures ---- tabula rasa as John Locke once posited; and if you call a child an idiot for an extended period of time, the false notion that he/she is an idiōt is impressed upon the child and he/she starts to believe that he/she is truly an idiöt, and even starts to behave like an idiot. All the body needs is for the mind to be fully convinced that it is something which it truly is not.

The truth is that many Nigerian parents are mentally and emotionally unfit to raise children.
I recoil in disgust at the marginalization of, and treatment of children as if they were nothing more than emotionless, bipedaled pouches of meat incapable of having thoughts and feelings. Why is it that spousal abuse - be it physical, verbal, and/or psychological - is frowned upon with all vigorousness, and yet the physical and/or verbal abuse of children is seen as a non-issue which invariably is followed by moral backings that draws from a silly quotation in a silly book that says, "Spare the rod and spoil the child"?

Did you know that in the US, a parent is killed everyday by their own child? And that one of the causes usually is when a severely abused child gets pushed beyond his/her limits? Tell me, how much longer do you think it'd take before African children begin to toy with the idea of parricide?

We need to get proactive and curb this silent virus!
