PoliticsRe: Agriculture Is NOT The Magic Solution- Simon Kolawole by Pavore9: 6:26am On Aug 24, 2016
[quote author=Izonpikin post=48750229]I have said it a million times...agriculture is only remembered once we are in recession or there is a fall in oil price...Once things get stable we abandon what ever that relates to large scale agriculture and also its finished and refined products...

The government presents agriculture quickly to pacify us and then fix their kids in CBN and NNPC...[/quote

That is pure lip service which successive governments at all levels have shamelessly engaged in. I only encourage Nigerians at individual level to go it on their own and not bother to wait on government. Take for example as an individual if one can preserve something like African pear way beyond the season it is in abundance, it is big money for the person when he/she brings it out when it is out of season.

PoliticsRe: Agriculture Is NOT The Magic Solution- Simon Kolawole by Pavore9:
A well thought out Agricultural road map is the MAGIC solution not forcefully pushing people into farms as many State governors are doing without empowering their people with innovative knowledge and inputs.

Internally, the journey from cultivating to our plates is so disjointed that is generates so much waste and we pay for such wastes by paying more for those that makes the market.

REUBEN010:
Once learnt from Pavore9 that it can grow in the cold regions up North. Obudu may also support its cultivation owing to the cold weather over there.
There is mix up in what you learnt regarding strawberries because there was a thread where l posted a video where strawberries are being grown in a place that is as hot as Sokoto state. One can also grow it in sacks.
BusinessRe: Oil Price Slides But Market Remains Cautious Over Nigerian Militants by Pavore9: 8:15pm On Aug 23, 2016
WinningSun:
the price is low in Kenya because the price of crude oil is low. if Nigeria have refinery in place, and there is no price control it will reflect at pump price.
Kenya also imports its own refined. Because of the devaluation of the Naira, that 86.17 shillings translates to N345 per litre.

not surprised its ghana.

he has money to celebrate and their economy is good. at least they aint buying petrol at #150 and rice is not up to 18k over there
Nigerians are not paying most for petrol in Africa! Kenyans are buying a litre at an equivalent of N350!

That is not how to look at power, every little count it not when you have a thousand of this before you make and impact.
You captured my thought as every little counts. It is like using rice husk to generate electricity for rice growing communities in the rural areas and even if they get to have power everyday from 7p.m to midnight, it is a game changer for them.

Apart from cocumber what other plant can i plant and what are the setup costs.
as i have some deserted plots of land the person looking after it for me can be looking after this to keep busy what needs to be done to setup someone to be looking after it
One can grow lettuce, cabbage, tomato, capsicum, aubergine (eggplant), butternut squash, parsley, coriander, courgette, green peas etc (these l listed are high market value crops).

I suggest you start with trial of a few bags growing cucumbers, you will learn so much from it. Get in touch with organicfoods (the author of this thread), he is on ground to assist with set up costs and the technicalities involved.

can i do this on a full plot in the east
i am thinking the quality of the ground soil is not an issue since its sack farming
Sack farming is not linked to quality of the ground soil as the filled sacks can be placed on any surface, seen many who have their sack farms on the deckings of uncompleted buildings.

they are not lucky. they are subject to the dictates suppliers.
Kenyans were buying a litre of Petrol as at 2012 for 112 shillings then their exchange rate was 85 shillings to 1 US dollar. Today they buy a litre for 86.17 shillings and the exchange rate us 101 shillings to 1 US dollar. Their economy is tied to hosting conferences, tourism and export of Agricultural products.
