whirlwind7: @Pavore9: Since that time you mentioned that the guy uses NPK fertilizer for his hydroponic solution, I have been searching online for more info. I came across this video on youtube where a farmer gave a clear illustration of how he mixes his fertilizer to get the ideal solution for different crops. Watch the youtube video below:
Quite interesting. This is informative, l must commend that l love your sense of following up and even researching on your own. l did try getting the guy over the weekend but couldn't as he sent me a mail some hours ago, that he and his family are on a Safari (vacation), so l have to wait till he returns. There are so much information on youtube which can positively influence one's way of doing things to achieve better result. |

greenmatorganic: @Omode2 that's my exact point with @jethro2 she is making me have a belief she's not teachable, because I have raised it severally with her that our govt has a key role to play in all of these happenings. However she keeps trying to beat me down, even calling me names.
If the govt plays its part, like the govt does in advanced countries, we that are Diasporians just like other enthusiast whom beliefs in walking the entrepreneurship talk, we would fair better in feeding our Nation, other than spending forex on food importation and consumption. If one has a BSc, MSc or a PhD without hands on experience they have to come back to the basics when it comes to hands on experience. In developed countries people like @jethro2 have more value because her BSc, MSc or PhD would make her go far at monetizing her farm operations other than being a small holder farmer, these degrees make people academicians with no real life production environment challenges or unexpected outcomes which class room based theories won't have an answer to.
Truth be told Mile12 market has to be shunned, its annoying dealing with illiterates, they hinder vision and progress of any project. Moreso, educated illetrates whom can be worse off, than majority of stack illetrates whom run small holder farms, are now the majority of whom we find governing us and determining our future. We need to think outside the box repetitively to break the jinx of lack of evolution in the things handed down to Nigerians and how we have always run businesses.
As I speak Mile12 is on the verge of either been demolished or burnt down by the Lagos State govt, they are tired of it being an eye sore and they need make use of the space for an international luxurious bus park, with hotels, eateries, coach park etc.
The case is in court, we collectively have to think outside the box by either coming together to find other markets to sell Tomatoes to or create a new modern market within Lagos.
But @jethro2 needs to stop being a little arrogant, she's doing a great job, but that doesn't mean a lot of people here giving her all the applaud can't do better than her with our years of experience running international businesses, within wide markets and running complex operations. Yet we are humbling ourselves to want to learn from her.
Our model could far surpass yours by the time we combine the ground work of learning crops of our choice within 90 days having all needed infrastructure in place improvising to monetize with least investment.
We spend time all forums pertaining to agriculture to get 1st hand information on major challenges been faced, so we are in the know on what to expect and mechanisms we have to put in place to overcome these challenges
@jethro2 spoke about contract farming indirectly, giving out seeds to other farmers, so they can grow inorder to have a big harvest, like a few people highlighted the challenges that would arise out of that and how they would side track her with their shallow thinking.
You bet it would happen, they would betray her trust in them because they don't want to cooperate with her and don't want shared prosperity.
Guiness Nigeria did the samething with Sorghum, gave farmers everything they needed and told them what they wanted in return. The farmers side tracked Guiness, planted other crops with their machinery and funds. They got frustrated and scrapped the project, then started buying directly from suppliers other than the initial route of outsourcing which brings about shared prosperity. l share your view regarding that Mile 12 as nothing has improved over the years and believe we are enlightened enough to work out alternatives as we cannot just dismiss it that it is impossible. Even in Kenya, some of their markets do have cartels but there are so many alternative markets where it is farmers and the consumers that run the markets. There is an organic farmers market within the upscale neighbourhood of Karen in Nairobi and every Saturday, farmers whose farms have been certified organic, sell their produce directly to the consumers who are mostly expatriates. l have a friend who runs an organic farm and sells there every Saturday, he earns well as no cartel is involved. The market even has a website http://ofmkenya.org/We the younger generation must be creative enough to disrupt the age-long system that does not encourage farmers but rather, fattens the cartel! |

yudeeboi: Thinking about Christmas, i had to put this plan ahead of time and also considering the fact that my birthday is Dec. 24th ...this tells that Christmas will be wow..
My fowls are 7 in number...thinking of getting additional 3 on Tuesday to have a round figure.
Pavor9, FarmTech, Bellaxyfarms i owe u guys one one fowl..but by Dec. cos em positive all of them will be alive.
N/B: This is for our consumption not marketing or that we can't afford to buy grown up..just derives pleasure from having to put their food and replace their water every morning and night. Though grew up in Lagos, l can not recall us buying chicken in the market because we reared them. My parents ingrained in us that keeping livestock helps in heightening sense of responsibility in us and one can never compare the joy one derives in eating from what they personally reared/produced to the ones bought in the market. Wishing you the best. |

Every nation has the right to make decisions that is best for its citizens. Slovakia is so very right on this, how can they accommodate people who would not feel at home with the Slovak way of life and it is insensitive to expect them to make room for mosques to built so the immigrants can worship there just as we don't expect the government of Saudi Arabia to make room for Churches to be built within its territory. |
