Emirates has revealed that it will return to Nigeria with flights to Lagos and Abuja starting back up from Sunday, December 5th. The news comes as the country lifted its ban on operations by the Dubai-based carrier that had been in place since mid-March. The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many travel restrictions around the globe. However, most of these have been targeted at stopping the spread of the virus. Earlier this year, Nigeria banned flights by Emirates, but not because of virus fears. Instead, it was because the country called the UAE’s COVID-19 restrictions “discriminatory.” As of Sunday, Emirates will be resuming flights to two Nigerian destinations using its Boeing 777 aircraft. Flights will operate daily from the airline’s Dubai hub to both Lagos and Abuja as follows, EK 785 – Dubai International Airport (DXB) 11:00 – Abuja (ABV) 15:40 – 07h40m EK 786 – Abuja (ABV) 19:00 – Dubai International Airport (DXB) 04:35+1 – 06h35m EK 783 – Dubai International Airport (DXB) 10:30 – Lagos (LOS) 15:40 – 08h10m EK 784 – Lagos (LOS) 18:10 – Dubai International Airport (DXB) 04:15+1 – 07h05m Passengers traveling to and from Nigeria can connect to Emirates’ global network by changing planes at the airline’s Dubai home https://simpleflying.com/emirates-nigeria-return-december-2021/amp/ |
The use of technology to help officials make more accurate offside decisions will be tested at the Fifa Arab Cup, which starts on Tuesday. "Semi-automated offsides" work using between 10 and 12 cameras which collect up to 29 data points for every player 50 times per second. If it spots a potential offside an alert is sent to the video assistant referee (VAR), who has the final call. The technology could be used at the 2022 Fifa World Cup. "VAR has had a very positive impact in football and the number of major mistakes is reduced, but there are areas where it can be improved - and offside is one of them," said Pierluigi Collina, Fifa's chief refereeing officer. "We are aware the process to check offsides can take longer [than other decisions], especially when it is very tight. We are also aware that the positioning of the lines may not be 100% accurate. "For this reason Fifa is developing a technology which could offer faster and more accurate answers. This is known as semi-automated offside. "For offside the decision is taken after analysing the position of players, but also their involvement in play. Technology can draw a line but the assessment remains in the referee's hands. This remains crucial." Since the introduction of VAR in Europe's major leagues, offside decisions have been among the most controversial, with some goals being ruled out by the smallest of margins. Roberto Firmino's strike for Liverpool against Aston Villa in 2019, for example, was ruled out because his armpit was offside. Planned trials of the new technology during 2020 were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, but tests have taken place in England, Spain and Germany. The Arab Cup, which features 16 teams and is staged across six stadiums in Qatar, is the most significant trial for the technology yet. "It is based on limb-tracking technology," said Fifa's football technology and innovation director Johannes Holzmuller. "Software is processing this data and, in case of an offside offence, an automated alert is sent to the

video operations room. That's the reason we call it 'semi-automated' - at the end it is still the VAR who has to validate and confirm the proposed offside. Then the VAR informs the referee on the pitch about the decision. "There are two focus points. The first focus is on the kick point - the moment the ball is played - and the second is which body part is closest to the goalline, the defender or the attacker. We hope with technology that we can be faster and more accurate." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/59461288 |

The Federal Government has budgeted N500 million in the 2022 budget for the ongoing construction of the international terminal at the Enugu airport |

Qatar Airways flying to Enugu will give Ethiopian a much-needed run for their money! I can’t wait also for Air Peace to launch international flights from Enugu |
The Federal Government on Thursday announced that beginning from next week it would start sending out Request for Proposals to investors interested in owning shares in the proposed national carrier. It also expressed hope that the carrier, Nigeria Air, would be quoted on the stock exchange, adding that Nigerians would be allowed to buy shares in the airline that was being planned to commence operations with three leased aircraft. The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirka, disclosed this at a briefing in Abuja, where he explained that 46 per cent stake in the airline was exclusively for Nigerians, five per cent was for government, while 49 per cent was for strategic equity partners, which were assumed to be foreign investors. Sirika said discussions with prospective investors had been ongoing and that Request for Proposals would be sent out next week. He said, “We will release what is called Request for Proposals very soon, I believe next week. And this Request for Proposals will describe what and what we are asking for. “You will now go and send us a document that you are proposing to partner us and this is what you are giving us. Then we will sit down, evaluate, discuss and choose a strategic partner or partners for this airline. “So Request for Proposals are going out next week and by the grace of God we will continue to pursue that and people will show up.” Responding to a question on how the 46 per cent stake to be owned by Nigerians would be acquired, Sirika said, “It will be purchased exactly the way you buy shares in every company. “This is because Nigeria Air is a limited liability company for now, registered under the law of the land and structured in a PPP (public private partnership) manner. “So you purchase it the same way you purchase shares in any company and later it is our hope that it will be listed and go through IPO (Initial Public Offering) and so on.” The minister explained that the airline would start operations with three wet-leased aircraft, as it would take about three to five years to take delivery of an aircraft that was ordered for. “They will start with wet-leased aircraft and that’s how 90 per cent of airlines in the world would have started. So they will start with a wet-lease of three aircraft and then continue to expand, place orders and then get deliveries,” he stated. https://punchng.com/nigeria-air-fg-to-float-ipo-begins-operations-with-three-planes/?utm_source=auto-read-also&utm_medium=web& |

Just like that, we have seen the last appearance of Haaland in the UCL this season |
sandymikky:The FG do not want to repeat the mistake of the defunct Nigeria Airways, where the government owned it 100%. We are all know how it ended as government officials and their cronies ran it aground. Now, the FG wants this airline to be propelled by private investors to ensure there is no repeat of the NAL episode. |
carbonado:Yea. I see them garnering at least 5 points in that group. But I also believe D’Tigress can even beat France with a little luck. |
All hail Baba TT!!

Lukaku needs a roving midfielder who would be always 5-6 yards behind him when he is receiving long passes in order to shine, just as how Drogba and Lampard combined to devastating effect for a long time. But our midfielders prefer to start deep and occasionally drive into the box. |

Kinkinatus:I’m not surprised at all. US/European carriers cannot intentionally discriminate based on age, so there is no way they will fire a 50 or 60 year old FA unless it’s due to misconduct. |
