Semifinal Cameroon v Nigeria on Tuesday at 4:30pm |
FT: Equatorial Guinea 0-6 Nigeria FT: South Africa 1-1 Zambia Oshoala now has 13 career AWCON goals |
Anam Imo should be hitting the target from that range ![]() |
Goal Oparanozie makes it 5-0 |
gbosaa:It’s because the results of the 3 teams concerned (Naija, SA, and Zambia) against Equatorial Guinea would be disregarded, per CAF rules |
ifenadi:In that scenario, the goal difference in matches involving the three teams (Nig v SA, Zambia v SA, Nigeria v Zambia only) would be the next tie-breaker. Nigeria’s GD would be +3 South Africa’s GD would be at least -1 or lower Zambia would be at least -3 That means, per your scenario, that Nigeria would win the group, and South Africa would be runners up. But if Zambia beat SA by a 3-goal margin, the Zambians will advance with Nigeria. |
Schemerkhiz:Yes, Onome has held her own in this tournament, thus far. But at 35 (36 at the World Cup), would she have the energy to handle the speedy and tricky American or French forwards? I put her in my fantasy 11 because the strong midfield would do an ok job in shielding her from lots of opposition pressure. I personally feel that she should retire after the World Cup. |
I know it’s super early, but this would be my ideal formation at the World Cup: ———————Nnadozie——————— —-Njoku——Ohale—-Ebi—-Ebere—- ————Nwabuoku—Ayinde—————- ————————Okobi————- ——-Oshoala——Umotong——Ordega—— I have a gut feeling that the likes of Umotong and Igbinovia would make the World Cup squad, while Courtney Dike, Sophia Omidji, Uchechi Sunday would also make the provisional squad. |
naijaseeker:I’d rather Ihezuo come in for Oparanozie. As you said, Ihezuo tracks back and presses opposing defenders well. Her strength will complement the pace and trickery of Oshoala and Ordega. |
Even more trouble for Trump and his company
|
Mustack:After 2 games played: South Africa 6pts Nigeria 3pts Zambia 3pts Equatorial Guinea 0 - Nigeria is ahead of Zambia due to a better head-to-head record. - Nigeria will advance to the semifinal with a win over Eq. Guinea. - Nigeria will win the group if Zambia beats SA, and Nigeria beats Equatorial Guinea. - Nigeria also advances to the semifinals if they draw with Eq. Guinea, and the South Africa v Zambia match also ends in a draw. |
Wow. What a finish in Group A! I feel some sympathy towards the Ghanaians on being eliminated at home ![]() The Super Falcons should, as Ghana did, put the Cameroonians on the back-foot from the blast of the whistle. The Lionesses aren’t as invincible as I thought, or were they bring conservative because they only needed a draw today? |
HT: Cameroon 1-1 Ghana Algeria 1-0 Mali As it stands, both Cameroon and Ghana are going through. |
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!! Eat turkey to the fullest |
garetz: ![]() She’s also a serving military officer in the National Guard. But I believe she won’t get into trouble with her superior officers because she is also a US Congresswoman. |
mostob:It’s just to give Nnadozie some competition experience |
olapluto:Even Ordega could have a cameo for, say, the last 10 or 15 minutes of the match |

I agree with y’all that Chukwunonye performed way better as a right-back. She brought do much energy to the attack that I wonder why she was initially on the bench ![]() Anyway, my preferred lineup would be: ———————Nnadozie—————- -Chukwunonye—-Ebi—-Ohale—-Ebele—— —————————Ayinde———————- —————Okobi————A. Okoronkwo——- ———Oshoala——-Oparanozie—-Ordega—- |
Generally, your rent shouldn’t exceed 30% of your annual income. Anything over 30% is too much. |
Seems fairly priced... |

With the way Equatorial Guinea have turned out to be the whipping ladies of the group, should coach Dennerby hand Nnadozie a starting spot on Saturday? |
Assuming Zambia beats SA 1-0 on Saturday, and Nigeria beats Equatorial Guinea, both Nigeria and South Africa would still qualify. And Nigeria would win the group. The tie-breaker in that situation would be Goal Difference in matches involving SA, Nigeria and Zambia. Results obtained against Equatorial Guinea would be disregarded. So, the GD of teams would be: Nigeria +3 South Africa 0 Zambia -3 Then, if Zambia defeats South Africa 2-0, SA still advances because the GD would be: Nigeria +3 South Africa -1 Zambia -2 |
TheSuperNerd: ![]() |
Fun facts_ - The Super Falcons have scored 161 AWCON goals in its present format (since 1998); and Ajibade scored the 160th goal today. ![]() - If the 1991 and 1995 tournaments are included , the total goals scored rises to 208. In both tournaments, Nigeria played six matches in each one of them. - Altogether, Nigeria has played 64 AWCON matches (when you include the 91' and 95' tournaments). |
TheSuperNerd:Me too, I also want to see SA qualify for a first ever world cup. Even if they don't make it to the final, I'll be backing them to beat their opponent in the bronze medal match (provided that opponent is not Nigeria ) |
olapluto:I imagine Oshoala is licking her lips already ![]() The Super Falcons should beat Equatorial by at least a 6-goal margin. But the SA v Zambia game is highly unpredictable. The South Africans would take it easy knowing that a draw is sufficient for them to win the group. However, a lackadaisical approach from SAncould open the door to Zambia dominating the game and nicking a 1-0 win. |
FT: South Africa 7-1 Equatorial Guinea. With a +7 goal differential, South Africa are virtually through to the semifinals |
By the way, the Super Falcons have how had 42 attempts on goal at this tournament. 18 attempts against Zambia, and 24 attempts against South Africa. But the team has only 8 attempts on target. |
That 2nd half display by the Super Falcons is a template for their play on Saturday! The connection between the midfield and attack improved, but there is still room for improvement. At times, the likes of Ayinde or Okobi should hit one-time passes instead of taking the extra touch. The team’s defensive organization was excellent, especially on set-pieces. That’s the one area coach Dennerby is an upgrade on the past coaches of the team. I expect the Equatorial Guineans to set up in an 8-1-1 formation after watching Oshoala, Ordega and Ajibade bearing the Zambians for pace. ![]() |
