Trent Arnold has to be in the conversation for a starting spot at right-back. He is only 19, but is game is way more advanced than the likes of Kyle Walker or Danny Rose. |

Men, it’s ridiculous to think that this tie could have been over at halftime if Mane and Lovren had converted their gilt-edged chances. It could easily have been 5-0 at halftime |

I'm all for having a steady base of players, but I am not sure if Uzoho is the answer as the starting goalkeeper. He has had a full 180 minutes under his belt, and looked shaky in both matches. With Enyeama out of the picture, Aiyenugba or Ejide surely ahve to be listed in the preliminary 35-man list. Both goalies still have a lot to offer the Super eagles as their experience can't be discounted. Nonetheless, Uzoho should be among the 3 goalkeepers for the WC team, alongside Aiyenugba/Ejide, with Ezenwa and Akpeyi battling for the other spot. |
The international banksters are clearly laying the groundwork for a Donald Duke presidency next year. When the two "richest" people are your friends (who, in turn, are stooges of the international banksters), then you have little or no problem in running for office. Atiku is only a temporary decoy to distract people and the media from properly scrutinizing Duke's record as governor, and his business/political associations. |
Guys, what do you think of FIFA's proposal to expand the Club World Cup to 24 teams, and hold it every four years? And creating a "Nations league" to be contested annually? https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43868703 |
Fifa is planning to hold a special meeting next month at which two lucrative tournaments could be given the go-ahead. Football's world governing body is said to have held "promising" consultations in recent weeks with regional confederations, individual football associations and leading clubs over the creation of a revamped Club World Cup and a new 'Nations League'. The tournaments would generate $25bn (£17.9bn) in revenue. A source close to the organisation told BBC Sport that if the governing body believes there is an appetite for the competitions, it will invite its ruling council members to an extraordinary session which will likely be held at its headquarters in Zurich and is tentatively scheduled for mid-May. Europe's elite clubs have recently called for fewer matches, mandatory rest periods for players, and the alignment of confederation tournaments but Fifa officials are confident their proposals meet those demands and have held "positive" talks with top sides in recent days. "Not everyone will agree with this but we want to give an opportunity to discuss the offer that has been made," said the source. "The discussions so far have been promising. This is not about selling football. We have serious investors and the secure finances would be shared with everyone involved in the game." Fifa's leadership is not keen on two of its existing tournaments. It wants to reform and expand the Club World Cup, scrap the Confederations Cup - used as a warm-up by the World Cup hosts in the year before the tournament - and introduce a 'Nations League'. In documents sent to confederation leaders, which have been seen by BBC Sport, Fifa says it wants to "[deepen] the relationship between fans and the game on a worldwide basis. This is clearly not happening with the existing Fifa Club World Cup and Fifa Confederations Cup." https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43868703 |

Kog45:I chose Ejide due to his height and comfort in handling crosses; although both Dele and Ejide have sharp reflexes. |
Kog45:Ejide is still available for selection, if Uzoho doesn’t inspire confidence |

Fans attending World Cup matches in Russia won't be left wondering about the reasons behind decisions of the video assistant referee. After a decision is made using VAR, replays will be shown on giant screens inside the stadiums accompanied by a written explanation. It's all part of the VAR information system that FIFA unveiled Wednesday . FIFA will place someone in the VOR (video operations room) who will listen in to the VAR's decisions and communicate them to both TV commentators and stadium personnel operating the giant screens. "So we will have graphics on the giant screens, we will have replays after the decision on the giant screens, and we will also inform the fans about the outcome of a VAR incident and review," said Sebastian Runge, group leader of football innovation at FIFA. With the VAR making its tournament debut during the June 14-July 15 World Cup, FIFA is holding its final training camp this month for the 99 match officials -- 36 referees and 63 assistants -- who have been selected to go to Russia. Thirteen VARs have been pre-selected and are being trained at Italy's Coverciano complex, and FIFA referees chief Pierluigi Collina said more VARs and VAR assistants will be chosen from the 99 match officials. Three of the 13 VARs come from Italy's Serie A and two from Germany's Bundesliga -- elite competitions that already use video assistants. The VAR can support the referee in four game-changing situations: goals and offenses leading up to a goal, penalty decisions and offenses leading up to a penalty, direct red card incidents and cases of mistaken identity. FIFA will follow the Bundesliga model of a central control center for the VAR rather than using trucks outside stadiums. "We will have all of the referees based in Moscow so there won't be any stress in terms of travel," Collina said. For each match, Collina will select one VAR and three assistant VARs. Training operation rooms presented to media included six monitors for the VARs and two more for technical assistants enabling the VARs to see requested replays. There could be up to four technical assistants in the room for World Cup matches. Offside Cameras FIFA will install two extra cameras at matches to monitor offside decisions. The cameras will be in addition to the 33 cameras used for broadcasters and they will be installed under stadium roofs. Broadcasters will not have direct access to the cameras but if they are used by the VAR then broadcasters can show the video. Runge added that three-dimensional technology -- considered the ultimate strategy for determining offside -- is not ready for real-time access yet. VARs will only do one match per day VARs will not officiate more than one match per day. "It's not like watching a match on the sofa sipping coffee," Collina said. http://www.espn.com/soccer/fifa-world-cup/story/3462164/video-assistant-referee-decisions-at-world-cup-will-have-written-explanations |
How on earth will corruption be minimized when the government fails to pay civil servants their dues? Owing workers 6 months salary is the height of official inhumanity! |
Some men are scared because they aren't certain whether their wives would cheat on them with a richer dude. Others have a genuine fear of losing a substantial part of their assets, in the event of a divorce. |
Manchester City will give manager Pep Guardiola £200m to spend on transfers after winning the Premier League title - according to the Mirror. In three 3 full seasons at the Etihad, Guardiola would have spent over £600 million on players, and should at least aim for the big treble next season. |

The country is yet to have a female AGF. |
As an intern attached to a court in Nigeria, I witnessed how female counsel were mandated by judges to indicate their marital status while announcing appearance as opposed to their male counterparts. The most painful part is the manner Judges ask the question and the derision (sure, from the male folks in courtroom). If the female counsel tries to evade the apparent embarrassment; the presiding Judge who often attempts to justify the practice would further ask ‘Miss or Mrs or would you prefer to be referred to as an Esquire?’ or ‘please let us know when you are available or off market, you never can tell there could be a prospective suitor …’. Expectedly the male counterparts are thrilled and always show gratitude by prolonging such conversation in a manner that massages their ego. Little wonder, some men expect women’s education to end in kitchen and the infamous “the other room”. Years have passed and I still wear the shoes, I must have grown a thick skin to stand such discriminatory environment. Every morning, I announce appearance in court, ensuring that I mutter the suffix Miss after mentioning my name thus: J. I. Ugwu ‘MISS’. This is to prevent drama or the court being torn in two like I witnessed in some situations where female lawyers fruitlessly attempted to go against such discriminatory and debasing legal tradition. Slowly, culture and sentimental attachments to titles have made way to confuse the legal system. One wonders the essence of a female lawyer announcing appearance in court with ‘Miss’ or ‘Mrs’ titles or worst with ‘Esquire’, this is not applicable to the male counterparts as only ‘Mr.’ in exclusion of ‘Master’ is used, also male lawyers are not addressed with any feminine title as is the case when women are addressed as ‘Esquire’ (a male title). Why can’t I for instance announce appearance as J. I. Ugwu with no title (esquire, miss or mrs)? If there is need to state such titles as Mr./Miss/Mrs, why don’t we use Mr. and Ms respectively as both are neutral terms for each gender, and usually don’t arouse any sense of stereotype. For instance, there are many lawyers who are advanced in their biological age but remain unmarried by choice or circumstance, it may appear demeaning when only the female counterparts in such instance are consequently and constantly reminded of their marital status by the use of Miss or Mrs in an open court. A divorced female lawyer once left the courtroom feeling embarrassed after she literally made a public announcement of a failed marriage when she announced appearance. Immediately announcing her appearance, many colleagues passed notes across to her while others sent messages to her, asking ‘what happened?’ Today, women in positions of authority in the profession whether as law professors, practicing lawyers , senior advocates , or judges, are still comparatively small in numbers; and the issue of whether as women they have any real power remains a moot point. For example, how many women called to Nigerian Bar each year are in courtroom practice? How many of those in active practice are partners in a firm? How many women have become Attorney General of States and the Federation? How many are Senior Advocates of Nigeria? How many of the elected executives of Nigerian Bar Association at the state and national levels are women? During my research, it was appalling to find that there has been only one female National chairman/president of the association since its inception which dates back to 1900, the case of poor female representation equally affects the association at state level. Out of over 475 Senior Advocates it’s worrisome to state that the women amongst them are approximately 20. Is it truly a man’s world? Womanity have come of age in the world career and Nigerian Bar Association should not be left behind. There is call on rethinking the role of women in Nigeria for a sane, less corrupt and lawful society. The law perhaps has the foundation of discrimination. This is because women’s active participation in law making over the centuries has been comparatively low. The absence of women as active participants in institutions of the law means that women’s perceptions, women’s consciousness and women’s ideas about their reality have played a very little part in the creation of the systems and ideas of the law or in the view of the world reflected in the artifacts of the legal system’s decided cases. Dorothy Smith poignantly described the effect of women’s exclusion from the institutions that create our culture, including the institutions of the law and of politics as being one where the perspectives, concerns, interests of only one sex, one class and one race are represented as general. Impressively, female law students and lawyers in the profession this century have received the same professional education and training as men. The success at qualifying and working as professionals has depended on her ability to manipulate the concepts and the processes of the system to “think like a lawyer”. Sadly, ‘thinking like lawyers also means thinking like men’. This has sometimes even been explicitly (if not unwittingly) acknowledged by those responsible for our education; a male professor once bestowed on a female student what he considered to be the ultimate compliment for her. “You think more like a man than any woman I have ever taught”. Women often fall victims of such discriminatory compliments, not just at the level of law school, but throughout her professional career. A woman’s success in the profession still depends to a great extent on her excellence at using the male idioms. It is simply because the male idiom is still by and large the only one in which legal discourse is conducted. Such thoroughgoing socialization in the male norms of the profession has for years, made it unlikely that a woman could be highly successful in it by its term and also be an avowed feminist. http://thenigerialawyer.com/women-lawyering-in-a-mans-world-by-jennifer-ifunanya-ugwu/ |
asha80:The SE governors should bid for the Enugu airport instead. Then, they can "sub-concession" to a technical partner who would be responsible for the day to day professional management of the airport. But funding the annual maintenance/construction projects at the airport will be split 50-50 or (40-60) between the SE states combined, and the technical partner(s). I'm just happy that the FG has begun moves to concession its major international airports. The FG has no business running an airport at all. |
AussiePlayboy:Yes, I've tried it before, and its really tasty; although I prefer it with basmati rice. In fact, I'm kinda addicted to basmatic rice these days . There is a popular Indian buffet restaurant I go to with family or friends, where I sample those dishes, including their goat meat which is seasoned well too. And do you know the best part? It only costs $10 per person. Not a bad deal for a buffet restaurant. |
