spyder880: The platform. ....... Oga Spyder, well done sir, on a different note and just wondering aloud - I am worried at the volume of wood we use in construction in this part of the world (and perhaps world over). is there no renewable or sustainable material that can be used for the planks being used here? - this is one of the few reasons why woodwork and furniture are getting extremely expensive (in my opinion). I know you are quite intelligent and believe you are already looking at more sustainable ways. The way the world is going (maybe not now in Africa) soon businesses will not be able to get good deals if they do not inculcate environmentally sustainable measures. Thank you sir |

daviejay: Sorry my sister and everyone in the house. I've not abandoned the thread ooo. We're having a one-month programme in church, and I'll be really tied up till Sunday evening by God's grace. The roofing wood work will be started on Thursday, all things being equal. I intend asking my landlord to allow me pay for only July rent, so we can park out July ending. Funds are really an issue but whatever we can do. We'll move in even without total finishing. I can't afford another 650k for rent. Please from Sunday I will update the house proper. well done sir, more grace I am puzzled at the 650k rent in nasarawa, is that for 2 years? God will help you sir to finish but just 1 month July may be too short. Thanks |

komengo: Pls use fibre cement ceiling boards ( No Asbestos in it again since 2001). You can get quailty ones from any Nigerite dealer. Others are easily damaged by water if the roofs leak. Fibre Cement is a bit fire resistant and is sound asorbant. So it it rains and ur roof is aluminium it won't be very noisy. PVC and gypsum boards r very cheap sub standard building materials that won't last. Please what is FIBRE CEMENT ceiling board and who makes it in Nigeria, How different from normal 4*4 ceiling sheet from nigerite? Thanks sir |
Properties › Re: Advice Needed: Between Pvc, Asbestos And Pop by peaceland(m): 11:04pm On Jun 03, 2015 |
Dominionng: Your best bet remains Gypsum ceiling Sir.
Fibre cement board is good, it can withstand a tank of water but the problem with this is that your roof can be leaking for years without you noticing.
Unlike Gypsum board which absorbs the water and indicates by changing colour at the particular spot where water drops so as to know the right place where the roof needs repair.
NOTE: When I say GYPSUM BOARD, I meant Original Gypsum board because 90% of the Gypsum boards in the Nigeria market were brought in from China. Unlike the Original board, they are not heat resistance, not fire resistance and they absorbs little or no water. They are prone to be weak after few drops of water, more of that and the ceiling is coming down. Please what is FIBRE CEMENT BOARD? WHO HAS OR MAKES IT IN NIGERIA? Thanks |

Thanks also send the brochure to: Thanks Also, can you break down the components below, what it includes and what it does not Pivot : Hello.how much will it cost to power a 2 bedroom flat with the ff:2 tv,a decoder,6 bulbs,a home theatre,4 fans, just for 12hrs daily.also whenever u mention inverter does it include batteries? With a budget of 350,000 (for all components) you can achieve this sir. And be guaranteed electricity everyday. Cost of inverter does not include batteries |

topsy23: Bros, is your building an office space or bank? why is your installer proposing INGESCO PDC 3.1 -ESE Air Terminal for your project? Do you have any sensitive equipment to install? This product is too expensive for a bungalow project of yours.
see the attached picture of what your installer is proposing to install for you.
Tope Thank you Also, what type of charcoal - the common type that boli people uses - that will quickly decay in the ground. Also the salt, will it not leach away from the location? most houses these days don't seem to have this feature, I guess this is based on the believe that PHCN wiring and new methods of wiring are okay; if not okay why are people not doing it? how deep should the hole be and what determines the location - e.g can it be situated close to a borehole or sewage/septic tank? Thank you |

topsy23: The cost vary from one location to the other. Numbers of earth rod determines the cost of earthing. The most important is to get the value < 1-ohms(I.e less than or equal to 1-ohms). Final figure determines the cost.
Thanks so as not to confuse me sir can you do a sample exposition of the prices using a real case example someone gave me 700k bill for lightning protector for a bungalow which I consider high Thanks sir |

Thanks Sir, so that will be part of your quote at installation? well done sir. Also use this thread to educate on battery types I am thinking that as a way of managing the cost; one can get the initial batteries & inverter first and the panels later or get the panels first with say 2 batteries and increase the batteries later. Perhaps you can help educate us on the practicalities of this too. Solar is the way to go and the earlier we debunk all myths the better. Thank you DRealGeesam: Yes it is important to install lighting arrestors with the installation will post pictures later.
That is a polycrystalline solar module. Yes, it is not as good as the monocrystalline solar panels but it is not bad either. The pro to using it is cos it is cheaper the con is that it's production can drop by about 5% in high temperatures. In an oversized system this makes no difference so yep, it can be used and it is being used All over the world when all I've said above is all put intro consideration.
For maintenance. There is not much you can do. Climbing ur roof to clean then is not realistic, but if you notice any obvious obstruction on the panels, then u need to get it off. The most important thing is to use your system within the limit recommended. Don't over discharge the batteries. The rest will take care of itself.

Dear Professor, I have been trying to ask you a question so thank you for this opportunity sir. 1. issue of lighting - i have been reading online and want to know what are the lighting protection features incorporated with solar panels. Most homes in Nigeria do not have the lightning protection installed and with the added element of possible added risk of panels on top of the houses poses; will that not increase the risk. 2. i read somewhere (think from your earlier educative thread) that the rectangular shaped ones are not the best but in the picture of the young man holding 2 panels it seem that was the type he is holding. 3. what are the maintenance 'must dos' for solar power system - from the panels down to the battery to make the system last thank you. |

Dear all,
The flooding is a major issue to businesses and homes in that area. most have been sacked; the houses right on the road (about 2-3 with shops) are no longer in use now. - truly at the Jimoh point; the road is quite narrow especially going to roundabout (not going to egbeda) - also, the drainage is quite small. - this point is like a depression; if you notice; coming from Cele-Sobo bus stops water flows down to egbeda; vulcaniser bus stop & Kwara bus stop are both raised and this is in between them so needed a massive drainage to handle all the water channeled into it; unfortunately the drainage in this part is quite narrow. Government did tried clearing the drainage but the measures are really half hearted; major works needed to be done and there should be a connecting drainage at that point that will channel water from one side to the other depending on which level is higher. you are noticing this much because the divider/road median acts more like a blockage/barrier to the water aside from the topography. Finally; we the people do not help ourselves; that PET bottles/sachets are dumped indiscriminately is very true in that area. just go there when it is raining and see people deliberately doing it. when you now add the ones coming from Sobo bus stop to it and given that there are several silts blocking the free flow at this point; the end result is what we are looking at. I am not an engineer but I believe a lasting solution will affect a couple of properties at the very least aside from reconfiguration of the road at that point. The government did a good job at lawal/yekini lawal area; good roads with street light with good drainage but the drainages are now blocked leading to flooding in some areas too. these are covered drainages that people deliberately opened the slabs to facilitate easy disposal of wastes. Government need to rise to the occasion for the Jimoh issue; its been a recurrent one while the communities (and the communities in that area are quite organised) needs to caution each other on environmental maintenance. Thank you. |
