Amid growing pressure to announce his preferred presidential candidate in the forthcoming election, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike says he never told the public the method by which he would disclose his choice.

Former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dakuku Peterside, on Tuesday, challenged Wike to name his presidential candidate as expected.
But the Rivers governor fired back at the All Progressives Congress (APC) member.

“You have the guts to tell me I should name my presidential candidate. Are we at the same level? Failure and success, are they the same?” Wike asked at the Rivers State PDP campaign rally in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

“Look at the man who is always failing every day. He does not understand the activities of G5. I have told most people who don’t know, G5 that we’re fighting is like a guerilla warfare. The more you look, the less you see.

“I never told anybody one day, I will bring a camera and announce to you this is who will go. I said I will tell Rivers people the candidate they will support. I did not tell you the method of saying it. I did not tell you I will bring live coverage and say it. But Rivers people know.”

“Look at this small boy whom I flogged in 2015. I don’t know where they say he comes from – is it Abia or Opobo side, which of the areas? Envy! I flogged him out in 2015.

“He has not recovered from that. He thought they would give him ticket in 2019, he didn’t get [it]. They sent him to be in NIMASA. Ask him, what did he bring for Rivers people?

“You have a position, you cannot help your people, and you’re coming out to open your mouth, simply because you didn’t get [the ticket] and they did not give you a second term to be DG of NIMASA,” he said.

PDP Atiku faction in Rivers state are already in alliance with Amaechi faction of APC. Tonye Cole is not campaigning for Tinubu, just like Amaechi and Wike faction of PDP is still waiting for reconciliation from Atiku with subtle threat of campaigning for Tinubu, if not listened to.

Atiku faction has moved on and the threat from their angle is real. They have withdrawn Wike lawyers from a court case against Amaechi faction of APC. They are threatening to submit a different list of party agents from that of Wike, as the national board are the only authorized power to make submission.

Wike's voting blocking in upland of Rivers state is constituted of people from different backgrounds and are mainly educated. Igbos in Obigbo for instance, cannot forget or forgive Wike in a hurry. Their voting population and that of other non indigenes in ObioAkpor is very significant.

Of course, where they will vote during presidential election is almost 100% certain and any negative pronouncement from Wike will only hurt his governorship and other PDP candidates, as it cannot change their already made up minds.

Rivers election is more of Wike to loose than Tinubu to get even 25%

The day Wike opens his mouth and says Tinubu is the day Rotimi Amaechi will, either openly or subtly, declare support for Peter Obi which will swing Obidients to Tonye Cole and other APC candidates in Rivers where Labour Party does not have strong candidates.

People are already calling Wike a coward. Let him show he’s not a coward by declaring support for Tinubu if he thinks he got balls.

When some of who are from Southeast and Southsouth, or live in the region, are trying to educate some people about the reality on ground in the two regions, they would rather choose to argue blindly and put their hope on political bigwigs they think are backing Tinubu in some states of the region.

But the truth is that these political bigwigs that Tinubu supporters are hoping will help give them victory in those states, are actually despised by his people and cannot walk in public without getting stoned; in some cases.

So, when we told some people here that declaring for Tinubu will lead Wike into political oblivion, they doubted us but we laughed.

In the end, Wike has realized that even his 200,000 appointed foot soldiers cannot save him if dares go against the will of the people.

Rivers State is wholly for Peter Obi. But Wike thought he can swim against the tide and against the people to support someone else until reality dawned on him and he bowed.

To be specific, if Wike had openly declared for Tinubu in January like he bragged, majority of Rivers voters will just swing to Tonye Cole, and make sure Wike’s candidates win nothing in Rivers.

The only person that will survive a Tinubu endorsement is Makinde. The rest should go ahead and try if they dare to.

Meanwhile, we still have days to go before the election. The challenge is still on. Let Wike publicly for Tinubu if he is a man.
