*HUMAN RIGHT ACTIVISTS DRAG POS OPERATOR TO POLICE STATION OVER EXORBITANT CHARGES.* A Lawyer, Human Rights Activist and Executive Director, Citizens Advocacy For Social and Economic Rights (CASER) Barr. Frank Tietie has dragged a point of Sale (POS) operator and a manager of a restaurant to Garki Divisional Police Station for what he described as callous, inhuman and exorbitant charges by the POS operator. Speaking on what led to his action, The Fiery public affairs analyst on major Nigeria Television Stations stated thus, "On Monday, the 6th of January, I went to an expensive Area 11 restaurant which commands a lot of patronage from the middle and upper-class elements in Abuja because of its reputation for good food that probably tastes like home cooking. After purchasing the overrated food for such an understandably high price, the cashiers claimed their POS machines weren't working, and they don't accept mobile transfers. Being so hungry myself with a medical condition that I couldn't fast for much longer, I negotiated to eat first before sorting out the payments afterwards. They kindly allowed me," "When it was time to pay, the cashiers insisted that their POS machines weren't working and the policy of the restaurant does not accept mobile bank transfers but that they have a POS kiosk that was branded in the exact name of the restaurant, just within the car park of the restaurant. They said I could go there to either get cash to pay them or the POS operator would transfer the money to their account." "However, it turned out that the POS operator was charging 10% for every cash she gave or transferred to the restaurant. And the customers were grudgingly complying, but I became enraged at the whole scenario, called out the restaurant staff as criminals, and accosted the compliant customers as national saboteurs. The restaurant manager came and justified the situation and accused me of making noise. I told him he ought to be ashamed of himself for aiding such criminal extortion in the highly-rated restaurant. I promised him that I would initiate criminal proceedings against him, the POS operator and the restaurant. He boasted that whatever I planned to do would amount to nothing. Some customers who knew me as a media personality started pleading that I should take it easy, but I took time to teach them how wicked, selfish and criminal the restaurant's staff were". "The POS they were using outside with a service charge of 10% actually could have belonged to the restaurant. Still, they chose to exploit the Naira debacle to exploit their customers on top of the exorbitant charges for the overrated food they sell. Since they allowed me to eat before payment, I went to my car to get them N5,000 cash from out the pitiable N10,000 that First Bank managed to pay me after about two weeks of waiting,". "Trust. I left everything I was doing and went to Garki Police station and demanded to see the Divisional Police Officer, who immediately gave directives to her officers to attend to me. I formally lodged my complaints, and two police officers followed me to the restaurant to obtain evidence and invited the manager and the POS operator to the police station for questioning. The investigation has been ongoing, and guess what? The manager is now begging that there shouldn't be a further investigation that could lead to prosecution. The restaurant is one of the most popular brands in Abuja. It is not in my nature to destroy another man's business because of the greed and indiscretion of unscrupulous staff. I am convinced that the owner of that restaurant chain could not have gone down so low to be that greedy and wicked. Am I now going to write withdrawing my complaints?", He asked. Speaking further, The activist lamented that in his 19 years as a lawyer and social advocate, he realised that some Nigerians are unpatriotic as they derive pleasure in cheating while they use every opportunity in service to exploit their fellow countrymen and the system. He expressed sadness that while some patrotic Nigerians are deligent in nation building, some unscrupulous elements delight in tearing down values and humanness. He futher warned that the nation is fast losing a sense of brotherhood and community, and a crescendo of such degradation is usually a conflict of the type of a civil war conflagration as the raging resolve by Nigerians to exploit themselves either in public or private service is suffocating because nearly everyone operates with the 'what's in it for me' mentality. He called on Nigerians to collectively rise in building a country that serves the interest of every citizen and human being as Nigerians cannot continue to operate as mutually hostile people in the competition of outdoing one another in a disservice.

*CORRUPTION, LEADERSHIP FAILURE: THE BANE OF NIGERIA'S GREATNESS.* *.... Chief UZO NWOSU.* By Timothy Nwachukwu Chief Uzo Nwosu, A senior Business Intelligence Analyst, Community Leader and President Chevron Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society has blamed corruption and failure of leadership in Nigeria as the root cause of poverty, security challenges and mass exodus of Nigerian youths to Europe, Asia and America. Come. Nwosu a renowned Human Capital development Czar, Founder Reality Foundation, technocrat and Former House of Representatives Aspirant for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency stated that Nigeria which was once heralded as the beacon of Africa has overtime fallen short of its potential as widespread corruption, government irregularities, diversion of public funds, mismanagement of scarce resources has become a clog in the wheel of our nation's progress in nearly every level of bureaucracy, ministries, departments and agencies in Nigeria. He regretted that the ruling class lack the political will to implement and enforce anti- corruption laws against highly exposed political gladiators while the laws are enforced only on the yahoo boys and persons on the lower echelon of the society. He revealed that the forthcoming presidential election presents an ample opportunity for the emergence of a new Nigeria devoid of tribalism, nepotism and where religious bigotry would not determine one’s placement in public office, but where excellence is preferred over primordial tendencies if only Nigerians will elect credible candidate with capacity, competent and integrity and who has no criminal, corruption case or age falsification allegation. He emphasised that the solution to addressing Nigeria’s problems and consolidating on the gains of democratic lies in having a government and leadership that upholds the principles of good governance and accountability to the Nigerian people. He maintained that only good and responsive governance, strategic repositioning of our national priorities, massive efforts to bridge the yawning infrastructural gaps that will give the youths the hope, boldness, and courage to embrace one, indivisible Nigeria as their homeland of pride. SHUN CIRCULATION OF FAKE NEWS ON SOCIAL MEDIA : ... SEN. UBANESSE IGBEKE ADVISES NIGERIAN YOUTHS. The estwhile Senator representing Anambra North Senatorial Zone and Former member of National Confab, Sen. Ubanesse Igbeke has cautioned Nigerian youths against using social Media to tarnish the reputation of honest and hardworking individuals but should rather leverage on the power of social Media and unite Nigerians across ethno-religious lines. He appealed to the Nigerian youths to use the social media as a tool for Nation building rather than a tool for propaganda. He harped on the need for the youths to prioritise the peace, unity and progress of the country while making posts on the social media and thus desists from circulating unverified news and information which has the tendency to polarise the nation.* *Sen. Ubanesse gave this advise in Abuja while reacting to recent political developments in Nigeria. He bemoaned the sad reality that many youths have been armed with media tools and deployed on social media by disgruntled politicians as tools for assaulting their opponents, defaming the character of persons who do not share the same political ideology, spreading propagandists and creating tension among Nigerians which on several occasions have had severe and negative impacts on people. He expressed sadness that political and ethic motivated crisis in Nigeria today can be attributed to unguarded use of the social media by individuals whose motive is to misinform Nigerians, sow seeds of discords, polarised the country through fake and uncensored false information in a bid to cause disunity, chaos, violence and ethnic chauvinism". In his words, he stated thus, "The use of social media have permeated all spheres of our national life, ranging from the security, economy, political among other areas but unfortunately, some gullible youths has allowed themselves to be used by unpatriotic and mischievous political elements whose stock in trade is to fan the embers of disunity, hate and suspicion aimed at polarising the nation along tribal and ethnic lines by desperate political actors in their bid to achieve a pre- determined ungodly purposes". "It is most worrisome that some gullible Nigerians consume the Information they receive through the social media without critically analysing and evaluating the credibility of the source of such information, Hence, they blindly consume the messages ‘hook, line and sinker’. Sen. Ubanesse advised the youths to use the social media and promote healthy dialogues and conversation that will engender the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria rather than allowing themselves to destroy the same country which they hope to lead.

He gave this advice in Abuja while x-raying the 2023 Presidential candidates, he opined that 2023 election will be very different from past elections in Nigeria because of the growing political maturity of Nigerian voters who have and know their expectations towards an election candidate as the outcome of the forthcoming election will serve as a deterrent to political parties as they will realise that it is best for any party to give due regards to the necessary leadership requirements as per the request of the voters instead of fielding the party’s own candidate who lacks the required leadership qualities. He maintained that political party would not be the basis and the only consideration by the Nigerian voters to vote for Thier representatives as eligible voters will leave no stone unturned while x-raying who the candidates are and If they be are fit to lead or to receive the voters’ mandate because the present crop of Nigeria voters will only give their votes to the candidates who fulfil their aspiration. Hon. Emeka Ebo expressed his delight that with the ongoing nation wide voters awareness and sensitisation, the forthcoming election will not be hinged on vote buying rather the Nigerian voters will elect their leaders across all levels based on integrity, competency, commitment, resilience and loyalty to the electorates. He maintained that candidates who possess the above leadership qualities will achieve win landslide as ther won't be room for vote buying. He futher envisaged that in some constituency, votes are given to the parties that have been traditionally representing the constituency, He stated that the present crop of voters do not only look to a party or the so-called ‘traditional seat’ context but will rather give high regards to who the candidates are and what qualities the candidates have. He called on Nigerian youths who has the highest number of registered voters according to INEC database to take their destiny in their hands by installing through the ballot boxes, leaders who will be accountable to them and not leaders who will shun them after getting into office. He urged the youths to use their vast population to their advantage by ensuring that only credible candidate emerged through a transparent democratic process without recourse to vote buying.

The Country Director, African Ambassadors Network Forum (Aanef Nigeria) and the African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassador, Hon. Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu Esq has called for a greater citizens participation in the electoral process ahead of Nigeria's 2023 general election. Speaking on a radio program in Awka, Anambra state, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu who is also the Special Assistant on Media to His Excellency Amb. Elijah Onyeagba PhD, Nigeria's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Burundi, East Africa stated that the core value of democracy entails citizens participation in the governance process as provided in Article 21 of the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights which stated thus: "Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives….The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will, shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures". Amb. Nwachukwu noted that Nigeria general elections in the past were marked with some irregularities such as distribution of money at polling centers, underage voting, malpractices and violence, cases of manipulation of voters’ register, and confiscation of electoral materials, ballot box snatching, and unlawful possession of firearms. He revealed that lack of transparency in the electioneering process in the past elections gave rise to issues such as eligible citizens refusing to register for voters’cards; citizens who registered but refused to collect their cards; citizens who collected their cards but refused to vote; buying and selling of voters’ cards and decreased participation of citizens in the electoral process. He emphasized that the ideal in a democratic society is that citizens are actively involved in their own governance and such participation is based on an informed and critical reflection of civic issues. The success of such society is built on citizenship that is informed and engaged. Amb. Nwachukwu however commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the civil society organisations in Nigeria for putting in place machinery that has reinvigorated the faith of the electorates thus encouraging mass participation of the electorates in the electioneering process ahead of the 2023 elections. Amb Nwachukwu harped on the need for the electoral process to be free without sentiment, favoritism, fraud, violence and intimidation of the electorates. He called on INEC to be more transparent and unbiased at every stage of the electioneering process and ensure that citizens who violate electoral procedure and policies are made to face the wrath of the law as it will help to build confidence in the populace and thereby enhance positive political participation. *African Ambassadors Network Forum (Aanef Nigeria) can be reached via aanefnigeria@gmail.com or +2348097311499.*

RE: HOW GOVT OFFICIALS LOOTED 70 TRILLION NAIRA HIDDEN IN 29 BANKS. ... AFRICAN UNION AMBASSADOR CALLS ON EFCC,ICPC, UNODC, AU, TO MONITOR ONGOING HIGH PROFILE CORRUPTION CASE IN NIGERIA. The African Union Agenda 2063 Ambassador and Country Director, African Ambassadors Network Forum, Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu Esq has called on the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, (UNODC) the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) among others to monitor some of the High profile corruption cases that is currently ongoing in Nigerian Courts. The Call was necessitated by a Media report received by African Ambassadors Network Forum and Youth Advocates For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) and considering that the media remain a practical and effective tool to foster awareness on corruption, as well as voices that demand accountability and transparency from the public and private sectors. Thus, through investigative journalism, media outlets have been key whistleblowers as well as holding government accountable in management of the public affairs. The Convention in Article 12 calls upon State Parties to ensure that the Media is given access to information in cases of corruption and related offences on condition that the dissemination of such information does not adversely affect the investigation process and the right to a fair trial. The news report is reproduced below: HOW TOP GOVT OFFICIALS LOOTED N70TRILLION HIDDEN IN 29 BANK ACCOUNTS Report fingers top CBN, Zenith Bank, First Bank officials. Honourable Justice Peter Odo Lifu of Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos has adjourned till 6th of March 2023 the suit seeking for the Recovery and Forfeiture of over N70 trillion of looted funds in the hands of few Nigerians. The revered Justice presided over the suit marked No: Fhc/L/Cs/968/2021 on the 7th of March 2022 and adjourned to the 31st of March 2022 for ruling before the last adjournment till March next year. The money said to be stashed away in 29 bank accounts mainly in Zenith and First banks is enough to fund Nigeria’s budget for three years with some change to keep. The proposed budget for 2023 is N20.5 trillion, meaning that the N70 trillion hidden by some Nigerians could effectively finance the national budget for three years. Attempts by Muhammad T. Ismail (a private investigator) and his team to recover the N70 trillion through the office of Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) have met a brick wall as some vested interests in high places have moved in to frustrate the case. The investigator lamented that all efforts to recover the said loot were being frustrated by some vested interests in the Presidency, Central Bank Nigeria, Zenith Bank and First Bank. *Below is the full deposition made by the investigator:* BRIEF ON THE RECOVERY AND FORFEITUURE OF OVER N70 TRILLION NAIRA OF LOOTED FUNDS IN THE HANDS OF FEW NIGERIANS IN SUIT NO: FHC/L/CS/968/2021. 1. Muhammad T. Ismail (a private investigator) and his team were able to identify fraudulent bank accounts where trillions of illicit funds belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria were domiciled. Mohammad T. Ismail needed a legal instrument to recover these illicit funds to the Federal Government of Nigeria. 2. Muhammad T. Ismail therefore approached Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) and instructed him to write and request for a letter of mandate/instruction from the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, and also from the Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on his behalf, for the recovery of the illicit funds hidden in some secret bank accounts in Nigeria. These funds belong to the Federal Government of Nigeria. This letter from Muhammad T. Ismail was received and acknowledged on the 6th of January 2021 by the Head of Department of Civil Litigation in the Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers), Barr. Saidu Alfa Bala. 3. Muhammad T. Ismail also swore to an Affidavits on the same date of 6th of January 2021 in support of the instruction given to Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers). 4. As instructed and being convinced of the facts available, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) wrote to the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Minister of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning and also to the Accountant General of the Federation. Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) requested for a mandate and instruction to recover Federal Government looted and hidden funds on behalf of his client who is Muhammad T. Ismail. (Copies of all these letters and correspondences will be made available to you on request). 5. The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice responded on the 14th of January 2021 by way of inviting Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) for a meeting scheduled for the 19th of January 2021 to discuss details and procedures for the recovery with the Asset Recovery Unit in the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. Twenty Nine (29) bank accounts where a combined sum of over seventy trillion naira (N70 Trillion) belonging to the Federal Government was hidden were identified. 6. On the 21st of June 2021, The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice approved and issued the letter of instruction to recover illicit funds traced to specified accounts of individuals to Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers). The letter of instruction also listed the twenty nine (29) bank accounts. The twenty nine (29) bank accounts are in seventeen (17) banks in Nigeria. 7. As expected, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) ran to the Federal High Court 9, Ikoyi Lagos where most of the Bank Head Quarters are domiciled. The case was between (1) The Federal Republic of Nigeria (2). The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice as Claimants/Applicants against the seventeen banks as Defendants. 8. On the 9th of August, 2021, Hon. Justice T. G. Ringim gave several orders including an Interim Order of Forfeiture. All the Banks were served accordingly. The Banks were also to provide Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) all documents and information relating to the listed accounts. 9. Shockingly, the Banks could not provide information regarding the ownership of twenty six (27) out of the twenty nine (29) accounts. That automatically meant that all the funds in the twenty seven (27) accounts should be forfeited to the Federal Government of Nigeria even as no one has come to claim ownership of the accounts. But this has not happened till date. The hands of the courts have been tired down. 10. Three (3) accounts stand out. The affected banks were able to provide documents relating to the three (3) accounts; 1. Zenith Bank Plc. Account Name: NNPC (REM ACC/PRIVATE) Account No: 1012280444 Account Bal. N32 Billion Naira Currency Type: Naira 2. First Bank Plc. Account Name: NNPC/ NAOC IPP SECURITY Account No: 2006367288 Account Bal. N147B Naira Currency Type: Naira 3. First Bank Plc. Account Name: NNPC/NAOC IPP SECURITY Account No: 2005942905 Account Bal. $299,613. 72 USD Currency Type: DOLLAR USD. 11. This is the interesting part; Zenith Bank Plc., suddenly woke up from sleep and said that the N32B in Account No. 1012280444 with Account Name NNPC (REM ACC/PRIVATE) has been swept into NNPC Remittance Account (Coastal PRD Sales) Account No. 1010654418 from where it was eventually transferred to CBN/TSA Account No. 3000004989 with the CBN on the 7th of January 2016. This is not true. 12. Recall that the CBN directives for all balances/receipts due to the Federal Government or its Agencies to be paid into the Treasury Single Account (TSA) ended on or before September 15, 2015. Zenith Bank Plc. has not been able to give explanation as to the reason Account Nos. 1012280444 and 1010654418 were still operational after September 15, 2015. 13. Another shocking revelation is that Account No. 1012280444 with Zenith Bank Plc. has five (5) BVNs as follows: 22173355534,22376914983, 22193440291, 22367697055, and 22235680190. Zenith Bank Plc. has not been able to supply statement of accounts for Account Nos 1012280444 and 1010654418from inception to date. They cannot provide photograph pictures of the five (5) BVN owners. 14. Zenith Bank Plc. stated that Account No. 1012280441 (another account being investigated with N32B lodgement) belongs to Mrs Okoro Comfort with cellular number 08130734041. However, Mrs Okoro Comfort, through her counsel denied any knowledge of the said account or any other account with Zenith Bank Plc. Mrs Okoro Comfort admitted that her cellular number is 08130734041 and her BVN is 222417%%%49 different from the BVN 2236767055 attached to the account number 1012280441. 15. BVN 2236767055 belongs to Mr Okam Eze Ezenna who receives transaction alerts from Account No. 1012280441 with two (2) cellular numbers 08139383487 and 08130734041which belongs to Mrs Okoro Comfort. Account Number 1012280441 with Zenith Bank Plc. has Thirty two million naira (N32m) with no identifiable owner coming to claim it. 16. The question in the mouth of every concerned person is, what is holding back the hand of justice to declare total forfeiture of all these stolen funds to the Federal Government of Nigeria. 17. It is expected that Muhammad T. Ismail and Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) should have a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). At the beginning of the assignment, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) allotted a space to Muhammad T. Ismail and his team in his office to do the leg work and provide the needed information for Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) to do the needful. Surprisingly, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) has not shown any interest in signing the MoU with his client, Muhammad T. Ismail. 18. On the 7th of September, 2021 Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) wrote to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice to provide Bank Account details to receive recovered funds to the tune of one hundred and seventy nine billion naira (N179B) and $299,613.72 USD from three (3) out of the twenty nine (29) accounts. 19. On the 8th of September, 2021 Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) also wrote to the Central Bank of Nigeria, complaining against the uncooperative attitude and disobedience of court orders by First Bank Plc. and Zenith Bank Plc. Proof of service of the court orders was attached to the letters to the CBN. 20. It was after the request for bank details was sent to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice and a complaint against First Bank Plc. and Zenith Bank Plc. was sent to CBN that trouble started. Some persons who are in position to drive the process for the recovery of the illicit funds became threatened and they had to act fast to stop the process. 21. In their response on the 27th of September 2021, CBN stated that they cannot act because they were not served any court order and that necessary steps should be taken to effect service on the CBN to enable them respond to the request. The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, although received the letter of request for account details to receive recovered funds, never responded and the request not met. . 22. In March 2022, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) invited Mohammad T. Ismail and told him that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice had terminated the recovery exercise but he could not show any document or correspondence from the Attorney-G eneral of the Federation and Minister for Justice to that effect. To make matters worse, Mohammad T. Ismail and his team were stopped from accessing the office and prevented from retrieving details of information in the office. 23. On one hand, Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) claimed that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice had seized from pursuing the recovery of the trillions of naira for the Federal Government of Nigeria. However, he sent another SAN to represent him in court on the 7thof March 2022 in respect of the same matter that he told Muhammad T. Ismail that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice had seized to pursue. 24. Hon. Justice P. O. Lifu of FHC, Ikoyi Lagos presided on the 7th of March 2022 and adjourned to the 31st of March 2022 for ruling. Since then, it has been adjournment upon adjournment with the next adjournment scheduled for 6th of March 2023. 25. Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) is now foot-dragging in pursuing the case as it should be. Mohammad T. Ismail is also not enjoying the cooperation of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister for Justice as it was in the beginning. The Judge only announces long adjournment to frustrate the case. The Banks too are acting above the law. CBN is not worried that trillions of naira which can service our national debt was being stolen. 26. Several correspondence had been sent to Ndarani (SAN) & Co (Solace Law Chambers) to release copies of all the correspondence relating to the recovery exercise but he hasn’t obliged. He has also refused to sign the MoU with his client, Muhammad T. Ismail who owns the recovery exercise and hired him to work for him. He is no longer showing seriousness in the recovery pursuit. 27. It can only be concluded that some persons are congregating to share over N70 trillion belonging to the Federal Government of Nigeria. We have a responsibility and a sacred duty to let the world know the truth and those who are sabotaging this nation and causing everyone to crawl while they ride on horseback. In view of the above news report, African Ambassadors Network Forum and Youth Advocates For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) is calling on Nigeria's anti graft agencies to monitor the above court proceeding on next adjourned date. Amb. Timothy Nwachukwu Esq described the freedom of Information Act as a potent and powerful arsenal which encourages openness, transparency and good governance thereby complementing the efforts of the anti-graft agencies in stamping out corruption in Nigeria which has become endemic and a bane to development. In his words, Amb Nwachukwu stated thus, the FOI Act provides that “Notwithstanding anything contained in any other Act, Law or regulation, the right of any person to access or request information, whether or not contained in any written form, which is in the custody or possession of any public official, agency or institution howsoever described, is established.” "Indeed, Freedom of Information Act is a great tool and enabler to probe deep into issues and expose corruption, misappropriation, misconduct, , embezzlement and all sorts of malpractices in the process of public administration in Nigeria". "The freedom of Information Act when domesticated at the state level will put pressure on government officials to act properly knowing that any misconduct or act of corruption will be subjected to scrutiny and will ultimately be revealed". "Therefore, posterity beckons on the governors and state legislators to rise to the challenge of nation-building, through the entrenchment of an open government, where transparency and accountability becomes a culture among Nigerians". © Amb Timothy Nwachukwu can be reached via +2348097311499 or nwachukwutimothychukwuma@gmail.com.

CSOs Petition IG Over Alleged Imprisonment Of Police Officers By SDP Presidential Candidate By Innocent Oweh A Coalition of Civil Society Groups in Abuja have petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba over alleged detention of some police officers in the house of the SDP Presidential candidate, Adebayo Adewole. The CSOs under the auspices of Dream Nigeria Movement and Youth Advocates For Peace Justice and Empowerment Network (YAPJEN) have also threatened to stage a protest should the relevant institutions of government fail to take action on the matter. Recalling what led to the detention of the officers in a statement made available to Daily Independent on Friday, Amb Timothy Nwachukwu ( LLB), Spokesman for Dream Nigeria Movement, said on the 1st of November 2022, The DPO of Dawaki Police Station gave a document (bench warrant) from the Legal section of the FCT Police Command to Assistant Superintendent of Police (Asp ) Joseph Otanwa to effect the arrest of Mr Adebayo Adedayo, The SDP Presidential Candidate. He said on receiving the bench warrant issued by a court of competent Jurisdiction, ASP Joseph Otanwa mobilised some officers to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport where Mr. Adebayo Adewole had arrived. On approaching him, the police officers identified themselves and informed Mr. Adebayo Adewole that they have a bench warrant issued against him by a court of competent Jurisdiction for criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, threat to life, disobedience to constitution, threat to life over the parcel of land belonging to Kenuj Golf and Resort in Katampe extension Fct. Mr. Adebayo Adewole calmly obliged their request and further offered to drive them in his car to FCT command. However, while they were leaving for FCT command, He veered off the normal route and instructed his driver to take the officers to his house. On arriving his house, he instructed the security men in his house to lock up the officers who came to effect his arrest. He refused to yield to all entreaties by the officers to release them to return their station until it took the intervention of the DPO who was alerted on the development to come to the rescue of the officers. Dream Nigeria Movement condemn in it’s entirety the illegal detention and false imprisonment of police officers led by Assistant Superintendent of police Joseph Otanwa of Dawaki Police Station in the house of Adewole Adedayo while carrying out a lawful order of a court of competent Jurisdiction. The Movement is aware that Mr. Adebayo Adewole is making frantic efforts to influence the withdrawal of the criminal case from the court again through some top police officers as he did previously before the matter was ordered back to the court by the IGP. “Furthermore, Mr. Adebayo Adewole seems to be above the order given by the DIG Force CID who had earlier directed the Nigeria Police Zone 7 to effect his arrest and bring him to court. “We are calling on the Inspector General of the Nigeria Police to effect the arrest and continue the prosecution of Mr. Adebayo Adewole for the false imprisonment of the police officers to serve as a deterrent to those who believe that they are above the law in Nigeria as such characters pose a risk to the peace and security of our dear nation. “We further call on the legal practitioners Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Bar Association to set up an investigation panel against Mr. Adewole Adebayo, a lawyer who knows the law as his action is a threat to rule of law and our democracy and contrary to the ethics of the Noble legal profession,” the statement added.
