this is just to show case the achievements in health.what you ll see here are by no means exhaustive.these ones were part of the 60-60 programme i.e 60 health centres commissioned in 60 days.most of the commissionings were done by the commissioner of health sampson parker(as amaechi is not really a believer in commissioning projects)....enjoy!

OdionOdion: The problems with many members of this as it relate to Niger Delta insofacto Port Harcourt is that total ignoramous Ignorance.Port Harcourt was called garden city because of serenity and orderliness inthe city, besides the city used to boast of facilities like pipe borne water, clean environment, well flowered terrain, and well planned and organised street layout. However the declining fortunes of Port Harcourt started after the administration of Rtd Fidelis Oyakhilome who once a military administrator to the old Rivers State.Gov Amaechi is trying in terms development, his problems is empty head arrogance, pride and disrespect for elders;if he can change from these negative traits of his,I will remain his fan and supporter so long he gives GEJ the due respect

RSG Explains Delay On Iwofe-Rumuolumeni Road …Restates Commitment To Agric Dev
By Staff 20/03/2013 02:04:00
Comment (1)

It has now been made public that what has delayed the reconstruction work on the Iwofe-Rumuolumeni Road project which has been awarded by the Rivers State government is the delay in payment of compensations to owners of properties along the road.

The Rivers State Commissioner for Works, Mr Victor Giadom, who made this known to journalists in Port Harcourt, recently said that property owners compensation issue is one thing that will be settled before proper work will resume on Iwofe Road.

He said that government does not just want to rush into building the road project in haste, pointing out that they are taking their time to ensure that due process is followed.

Giadom re-affirmed the decision of the present administration in the state to insist that due process be followed in the execution of work, adding that no property owner will be left out in this respect.

To this end, he explained that the state government has engaged some professionals who are handling the process of valuation and variations on the properties to be compensated, and that in a short time, the process will be over.

He said that work will resume on the Iwofe Road as soon as the property owners are fully compensated and urged the public to be patient with government, as things are being worked out.

It would be recalled that the Iwofe-Rumuolumeni Road had been a nightmare to road users, especially in the last rainy season, and there had been a very high expectation that the road will be properly fixed before this coming rainy season.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken about his administration’s efforts in improving agricultural activities in the state.

Amaechi said agriculture could not be separated from the state’s overall development plan as the sector is being developed to equally stimulate the state’s economy.

The governor spoke during the 38th Annual Conference and 40th Anniversary of the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP), with the theme, “Animal Agriculture: A Tool for Sustainable Economic Transformation”, at the Amphitheatre of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt.

Represented by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Emmanuel Chinda, Governor Amaechi said his administration had established the Songhai Centre, Fish Farms, Banana Plantation and revived the Risonpalm in addition to other initiatives to improve agricultural growth and output in the state.

He said, “we are happy to share with you some of our strides in the area of economic development which agriculture cannot be removed from. We believe that we can develop infrastructure to the best that we can and to the best that we think we can stimulate our economy”.

RSG Plans New Bridge For Slaughter-Woji Road

The Rivers State Government will soon construct a new dual-carriage bridge by the side of the Trans-Amadi/Slaughter/Woji Road in Port Harcourt.

The Commissioner for Works, Hon. Victor Giadom disclosed this during a fact-finding trip to the Slaughter-Woji bridge with a team of engineers, journalists and other stakeholders over a report in a social media that the bridge is defective.

Hon. Giadom, who debunked the report said the construction of a new dual-carriage bridge does not mean that the present one is faulty, stressing that, “it is in good state and may not be used for beautification on completion of the new one.”

According to him, the construction of the new bridge was expected to commence in 30 days time, adding that, “we expected to build another bridge on the Elelenwo axis of the road and flyover at Garrison.

Drawing the attention of the team to the publication and the standing bridge, the Ministry of Works boss said, “you can see things for yourself,” and described the information as malicious which was being propelled by people who do not mean well for the state.

He said the columns are standing firm and not slanting as falsely projected by the social media report on internet, pointing out that the state government did a routine maintenance of the bridge in 2010 by engaging the services of Stemco Nig Ltd, and wondered why detractors should fabricate such falsehood.

He also enjoined the public not to believe the malicious report on the social media over the bridge, advising them to confidently use the bridge as it was in good condition.

On the Abuloma/Woji bridge, the commissioner said it had been completed, explaining that what the contractors were doing now was to build the retaining walls through the length of the bridge.

Hon. Giadom further disclosed that movement on the bridge from Peter Odili road to Woji would commence in the next six months.

In their separate speeches, the Managing Director of JDP Construction Company, the company handling the bridge project, Engr. Erez Barzilai and the Director Civil Engineering, Ministry of works, Engr Godpower Maeba assured that the bridge is not slanting or tilted to any side as purportedly reported in the social media, saying, “it stands firm”.

“There is no risk or problem about the bridge at present. The bridge can serve”, said Engr Barzilai, while Engr Maeba noted that, “what you saw at the internet is all manipulation, as we were here this morning, we were able to confirm that the bridge was structurally stable and can last for the next 20 years.

Politics › Re: Ojukwu Was Right Afterall by phantom(m): 8:36am On Jun 14, 2013
DaLover: After killings of several Igbos in the north,Nigerian leaders sat in Aburi, where Ojukwu convinced the others that confederation was the best way to go, considering the dangerous rivalry between the major ethnic groups..

My understanding is that, on getting back to Nigeria, Gowon and other began to foot drag on the Aburi agreement and they were fully encouraged by technocrats from the SW then, remember that prior to the July 1966 coup, the Igbos and Yorubas were in serious neck and neck rivalry for opportunities, in Lagos and SW, the departure of the Igbos in droves gave the Yorubas a fresh breath of air...

Igbos who saw education almost 100 years after the first yorubas, quickly pulled themselves up and became very competitive, achieving great strides in many field of endeavor, Drastically closing the educational gap with the Yorubas and moving to all corners of Nigeria to establish them selves, nigeria very quickly saw these As a threat and thus the animosity between various Nigerians and the Igbos, most notably the core north and the SW.

As already established the blazing rapid progress of the igbos was viewed with serious suspicion by those who couldn't cope with the progress, initially, the igbos were eager to for the british to go and was ready to make any sacrifices to achieve such, Hence allowing the reluctant north more political power as a sort of assurance against perceived political domination from the more educated south, the Igbos probably calculated that the spirit of free and fair enterprise would be allowed to reign in an independent nigeria, they probably calculated that competition and industry would be the main stay of the Nigerian economy....boy were they wrong!

The unhealthy rivalry lead to the coup and counter coup and by this time it was clear that ethnic tensions and fears of domination by other groups would not allow the environment of free enterprise, industry and competitive of the Igbos to thrive in nigeria..
Hence Ojukwu's proposal of confederation, which should have made logical sense at the time, but Nigerians had already grown so afraid of the Igbos that he natural stance was to stand on the opposite side of what the Igbos were saying, weather it made sense or not

This great fear of the igbos have lead the victors of the war to configure Nigeria in such a way that the factors which will allow the igbos to thrive will be removed. hence free enterprise , industrial development, power generation, oil industry etc are all controlled by government, for many years laws were made prohibiting groups or people outside government from owning oil companies, generating power, owning major industries like telecoms, banks etc...Igbos were left with only trading...as a people who cannot be held down they took it too new heights as the environment allowed....

Only recently, after the powers that be, believed that the competitive spirit of the Igbos was no longer a threat, they began to open up various sectors of the economy...banks, telecoms, local content for oil industry, etc....this is being done very slowly...the fear of the Igbos as always remains a guiding factor
this should go down as one of the best posts of all time on nairaland.insightful!

mapet: You guys just continually make daft reasoning the other of the day.Pray! Tell, on what basis should Fashola make Innoson Vehicles Official State's Vehicles?
1. How does that benefit Lagos in terms of value?
2. What extra input will it add to the Human Capital development of Lagos Indigenes? How does buying Innoson vehicle helps to fulfil the aspiration of of developing a bew generation tof young graduates that will continue to build relevant Innovative sectors in Lagos.
3. Do you thin Lagos will be so stupid to surrender her potential goldmine to Anambra? For starters BRT in full-swing will probably need an average of btween 500-1000 vehicles per annum to be assembled. Imagine the human capital that will be equipped to do that, the duties and taxes on raw coming in through the new ports, matrls & number of new jobs for Lagos indigenes, investment that way bring in, in case of out-sourcing and export. Imagione the big-picture value this accrues to Lagos state......

Yet in your lame-duck reasoning, all this should be surrendered to Anambra State?.........tsk..tsk..tsk.... Unfortunately that is not going to happen, you might as well choke on it early enough, cos is building up and assembly plant
interesting! I thought we were one country?
