Look the truth is a bitter pill to swallow but sometimes one has to do it to set himself free.i am not a fan of gej.didnt vote for him in 2011 reasons being i couldnt see what he had done in his state as governor and didnt think he had the balls to tackle corruption(the alams thing proved me right!) BUT one thing i cant deny and what every RIGHT THINKING nigerian should be able to see is a determination on his part to steer this country forward.i can see him taking calculated steps to make this country better.yes he takes the stupidest decisions many times and yes he changes positions faster than a two kobo LovePeddler( apologies to gbawe) BUT his government TO ME appears to at least have a plan.the opposition should criticise but do it sensibly.to be honest with the kind of opposition i see now one is tempted to vote for the 'retardeen' in 2015 because i honestly cant see them doing better. |
Reference: Good move if done properly. I however prefer stimulating the private sector to develop it by creating ther right investment environment by proper value chains. But if it is another poorly thought-out potential white elephant that will load us with debt or inflate government expenses long-term then they should'nt consider it.lovely post.truth is most members of this forum especially politics are not intelligent.fact! They dont think things through and come out criticising stupidly.nairaland truly has gone to the dogs. |
lol.pls someone should tell me how this thread differs from the jonathan shipyard thread. |
Your asking what I'd do differently, I'd pay more attention to it, that's what I'd do.
what does this mean? How do you know the man is not paying attention to it or do you expect to see him sleeping at the power plants? Please define 'pay more attention to it' .its very vague. |
Nobody or at least I certainly am not saying Jonathan's intentions are good but his methods are not, the idea that he can fix Nigeria all alone is absurd, that is why we became federal, all these projects no matter how amazing they may seem will not penetrate the surface, we need a lot more going on in Nigeria at all levels to fix this country, most especially at the state levels, you all fail to realize but the states cover a bit over 99% of the country, the enabling of governors to do their jobs should be Jonathan's priority, it is much easier, much more effective and much more efficient for 37 people to do the work the man is trying to do alone. Many things need to be sorted out before Nigeria can support the big things otherwise his efforts are wasted. And before someone comes out to say that nobody is stopping the governors from doing their job, the federal government is stopping them, under the accusation that the state governors will abuse power (because they are Nigerian men, maybe the federal government is not made up of Nigerians?) the governors are strangled and denied the ability to do anything, federal government takes all the money from the country and gives the states peanuts to do 99% of the work in the country as ift it will be enough while rejecting states like Lagos the right to build their own power plants, the governors are powerless to effect change in the country leaving all the work to Jonathan, he can build all the shipyards he wants, those things are very specific and will not affect the vast majority of Nigerians. common sense dictates we use the most efficient way to develop our country, that is to do things that affect as many Nigerians positively as much as possible before we start to worry about these things. Electricity was going to be non stop by mid this year then end of then end of the year now it is 2014, clearly those things are not going according to plan, he needs to suspend his hundred projects and worry about electricity and agriculture. Nobody is asking him to turn Nigeria into America in 4 years, these projects sound good but long term he is going about it wrong, we don't need him to be superman. Jonathan means well but meaning well is not enough to make you a ruler, I would certainly like to now his position on state and local government autonomy, devolution of powers, the structure of the government of our federal republic etc.
too much grammar.you r trying to round intelligent but seriously doing a bad job of it.how would you tackle electricity if you were president? |
KokoBeware: So do we put every other thing on hold and wait for electricity to become 24hrs.. electricity is not paused it needs time ... Power plants are being built transmission lines are being upgraded ... I don't think the govt should fold hands and wait..couldnt have put it any better. |
Yeah our lives should come to a standstill until electricity is sorted out. |
Do these people realize that in saner countries ridiculous statements like these are capable of keeping the opposition in power?they are bloody lucky this is nigeria where most of the voters are still largely unevolved. |
Whosai....the rest of us would probably be on leashes and chains! |
.......but of course,it would be irresponsible of the govt to ignoore the transport deficiencies along the major highways.fashola should flood that city with buses that ply the major routes.he can afford to that.transportation appears to be a bigger deal in lagos than any other city. |
i agree totally!these tricycles should be used solely to ferry people who stop at major junctions into adjoining streets and neighbourhoods.i am in full support. |
Bro this is Nigerian matter so take your hatred and ignorance elsewhere. If the news is too painful for you go hug a transformer. Whether the news is good or not is not your business. If we concentrate all the wealth of Nigeria in Lagos then how does that concern you? What about Abuja, Kano, Enugu etc? Have you ever been to Nigeria before? Why do you gloat anytime you hear positive news coming from Nigeria? If you think too much federal money is being poured into Lagos what are you going to say when you enter Abuja? As you rightly stated, Ghana is the second largest producer of cocoa in the world, and the eighth largest producer of gold and gold bars in the world. Ghana is also a crude oil and natural gas producer; producing 300 million barrels of crude oil and 200 million cubic feet of natural gas per day as of May 2013. What has Ghana done with all those massive wealth? NOTHING. With all those wealth Ghana CANNOT build even a highway, the few highways they have in Ghana were built by AMERICA via Millennium Challenge Account. With all the massive wealth Ghana still have thousands of schools under trees till date. I have been to all gold producing regions of Ghana and discovered they are abandoned like the Niger Delta people. There are no roads there to start with, not to talk of water or anything else. But these guys will come online and talk as if their house is in order. BROS YOU SAID GHANA leads African nations in human development, technology, health care, competitiveness, income per capita, globalization, press freedom, state of peace, economic freedom, low perception of corruption, and the world in real GDP growth. It also ranks highly in Africa on the sustainability of the state, and number one in Africa on democratic development. Hahaha are you kidding me? HEALTHCARE: IS this a joke or what? Ghana does not have any health sector to start with. Ghana's health sector is ranked 2nd most corrupt in Africa: http://elections.peacefmonline.com/politics/201110/72817.php?storyid=100& http://ww.w.africanoutlookonline.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2998%3Aghanas-health-sector-ranked-2nd-most-corrupt-in-africa&Itemid=29 For over 1 month now Ghanaian doctors are on strike. Ghana claims to have national health insurance yet the card is useless because no hospital is accepting it. including Korlebu which is the biggest government hospital in Ghana: http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=254750 http://amandlanews.com/2013/03/24/the-national-health-insurance-scheme-to-be-or-not-to-be-an-open-letter-to-the-president-of-the-republic-of-ghana/ The position is calling for the NHIS to be scrapped bc all the money is going into fraudulent pockets. CORRUPTION: You said Ghana has low perception of corruption? Are you kidding me? Ghana is the second most corrupt country in west Africa. Ghana is now the scam capital of the world. Just few months ago your own IG of police collaborated with ghana gold scammers to steal 8 million dollars from some Turkish mugu, the IG was paid 1 million USD to allow scammers load FAKE GOLD into the private jet the mugu came to carry the purported gold. Last year your own Kweku Adoboli was arrested for 1 billion dollar fraud at UBS. Just last week Three Ghanaians were arrested in US for credit card scam (http://www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/NewsArchive/artikel.php?ID=272391&comment=0#com) You said you are not corrupt but where is Ghana Airways? Was it not corruption that killed it? It is the same corruption that is crippling Tema Oil Refinery which is always shut down for maintenance like Nigerian refineries and this TOR is always producing below 40% all bc of corruption. If you say you are not corrupt oya type SAKAWA for Google search and tell me the result? Bros, abeg no wash your dirty linen in public. I married from Ghana and know Ghana inside out. SECURITY: Ghana has thousands of refugees in Togo so you are not safe. Northern region of Ghana is like a war zone and god forsaken place, I have been Tamale so I know. In Ghana I know at least 5 taxi drivers that do not operate in the night bc of fear of armed robbers snatching their cars from them. Ofcourse I know 2 Ghana taxi that lost their cars to armed robbers. There are many parts of Accra taxi drivers dont dare penetrate after 8pm. In Ghana anyone with power-bike is a suspect bc that is what ghana robbers use to rob. I was in Ghana when the police were arresting any young boy they see on power bike. TECHNOLOGICALLY: Ghana cannot match Nigeria in technology. In Africa Nigeria is leading in space science/technology. Our scientists have launched satellites etc. Innoson motors is made in Nigeria and is already plying the roads of Accra daily. GO TO CROSS COUNTRY TRANSPORT IN ACCRA, JUST BEFORE BUSY INTERNET AFTER KWAME NKRUMAH CIRCLE. Nigerian soldiers manufacture so many of their arms. Our Navy just launched one of the vessels they manufactured. MANUFACTURED GOODS: Enter any drug store in Ghana most of their prescription drugs carry NAFDAC NUMBERS. Enter any shop/supermarket in Ghana you will see lots of made in Nigeria products like gala, indomie, dangote pasta, biscuit, cement, la casera, bread, news papers, Zinox desktops/laptops. Most ATM Cards in Ghana carry INTERSWITCH Logo and this is a Nigerian company. As a Nigerian, how many made in Ghana products do you see in Nigeria apart from alomo bitters? POLITICALLY: This is where Ghana has done better than Nigeria. But the last election in Ghana is marred in mass rigging and corruption. THE OPPOSITION PARTY DID NOT ACCEPT THE ELECTION RESULT TILL DATE, THEY REFUSED TO ACCEPT DEFEAT AND THEY ARE CURRENTLY CHALLENGING THE PRESIDENT IN COURT. Most people believe the opposition won the last election and they claim Obasanjo helped the sitting president to ring/win. This last election has seriously dented Ghana's image globally. The opposition has brought thousands of evidence of mass rigging.
check this link out:http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/sakawa-boys-internet-scamming-ghana/ |

This news would have been a lot better if too much power didnt rest in the hands of the federal government.let them just allow fiscal federalism and watch this country move forward with the speed of light. |
Na wa o! Blood is already flowing two years before 2015. **searches frantically for his international passport** |

Okay but the progress appears rather slow. |
venchi: JUST FINISHED MY TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, ABOUT TO WED ON 29TH OF MAY 2013, THEN I CAN START LIVING WITH MY WIFE , BUT NOW NO AN EXPERIENCE ABOUT THAT. BUT MAN MUST BE A MAN. YOU ARE THE ONE MARRING HER NOT HER MARRING YOU. YOU HAVE THE FINAL SAY NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS. EVEN THOUGH SHE IS RICHER , OR HAVE UPPER HAND INTERNS OF INCOME. DO NOT ALLOW HER USE AGE ADVANTAGE ON YOU. GOD HAS MADE IT SO , THAT A MAN MUST BE THE HEAD OF THE FAMILY. SHE CANNOT MARRY HERSELF.THAT IS WHY SHE NEEDED A MAN IN HER LIFE.interesting viewpoint so i guess you can marry yourself if you dont want a woman abi? |
percipi1: I think I will have to rest my case now. It's very obvious that you have a personal grudge against Abuja as a city or you are just ethnocentric. You are clearly not a cosmopolite, otherwise you will not be quick to cosider a divergent opinion as borne out of ignorance despite your intellectual inadequacy to defend your pathetic reliance on outdated information and unqualified sources. ![]() |
Akpangbon: OP. You should use your brain for once na.looool...you for jus indulge am na. |
otokx: My dear we pay our bills? Let federal government give us light. How can a University in Port Harcourt function without electricity?looks like you were born in uniport, grew up there, hope to get married and raise kids there and to die and be buried there someday. |
Its like that everywhere.mondays are always busy anywhere.people who dont show up for work everyday like some lazy civil servants at least make sure to show up on monday. |
Yeah the 'saints' have come! Maybe they should also explain to us some of the suspicious killings their troops were involved in in iraq and afghan. Busy bodies.who owes them any bloody explanation? World police my foot. |
