Caracta: What's going on? Only two debaters for the Child Soldiers debate?
Yes that's what we have and its actually three, so we are eliminating one in some few minutes and it will be one versus one for the main debate.

I should say there is no full proof system or strategy but for this feature to work effectively ( like we hoped ) then we will need the cooperation of the Organizers, Judges,Debaters,Audience and friends of etc to act responsibly towards this debate.

We will be revealing the feature in full by Wednesday or Thursday this week so watch out for that and keep on commenting about the other aspect of the debate. Please everyone can check the debate timeline to see the time allocated for audience questions and voting.

Note: This same feature negates the issue of the judges being biased or giving their vote to the members they role with on nairaland.
Literature › Re: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - Female Edition - "Battle Of Wits" by Pharoh:
focusstayed: is the audience vote done by poll- how many vote(s) per person?
The audience vote will not be done by poll and any member who wants to vote will just come in during the time allocated for that and say i vote for this debater and for the following reasons like a comment on the thread. For now we have limited it to one vote per person even though there are more than one pair of debaters.

We will then count the votes for each debater and match it against the eligibility rule to get the valid votes and declare the audience winners from the total collated votes.
Literature › Re: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - Female Edition - "Battle Of Wits" by Pharoh:
Caracta: Cuddles, about the audience's vote, are you sure the audience won't be bias? You don't expect me not to vote for the peeps i roll with on nl, irrespective of their inputs. Is it a poll thing or what? What's the style of measurement?
That's true. Some people will just vote without even reading what there person they voted for said/wrote
Check my statement below.

@All . . . We mentioned that we still have one more feature to introduce concerning this debate and it is like a joker. This feature will eliminate the issue of being biased and also the issue of using more than one userID to vote.
I am GARRI (X7) and I endorse this post.... grin grin grin grin
We will consider changing the rule if we see more support as having only two people asking for a change might not be enough to alter the rules. cool

I can see many people viewing the thread, so we will like you guys to kindly share your thoughts about the whole debate guidelines, if anything needs more clarification or changes.

Thanks so much.

Please the organizers started this debate and we can successfully resolve any issue with the debate. Please everyone should stop begging anyone here on this thread and let us be with the organization. Whoever pulled out did so out of their personal conviction and they should be left with their choice instead of people being an indirect mouthpiece for them. So please stop mentioning the name of anyone who is no longer part of this debate, stop relating to them and referring to them so that we can move ahead with what we have got left.

Thanks

I am in support of the debate going ahead with the present composition and no need for any further changes.female only contestants was the idea and not female only judges or organizers. Thank You.

Tgirl4real: Hmmm... Can't wait.

U guys have gone through a lot trying to make dis happen.
Well-done guys.
Thank You

maclatunji: I respect your efforts but you cannot hold on to the past in responding to Efe's outburst here. Since we are being frank here, I did find OAM4J's jokes inappropriate. A judge must be fair and seen to be fair. Yes! Efe has a right to withdraw but we should recognise that she has a valid point here and adjust accordingly.

Thank you.
Thanks for your inputs, they are really appreciated and concerning the issue at hand. We have to hold on to the past because things move in circles, if we go soft on her now, what would be the reaction of other contestants?. The intention of the joke is subjective as everyone could read their own meaning to it, even if it was real there are measures in place already to negate that. No one is saying her point is not valid but what is the whole issue of i am out, should we beg her or what?. The most simple and best thing for her to do was to contact the organizers and not to take matters into her hands like that. To me it is as simple as that and i believe the matter is settled at this point so we implore everyone to kindly move on from this episode.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this and lets keep on working on our parts to this debate.

Caracta: Nice video. I actually thought Teen Sex Debate was for 24th. You guys are really working hard on this. Good job guys! smiley
Thanks for the compliment and you should look forward to the weekend for the final major updates to the debate as we have some more surprise to present.
Literature › Re: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - Female Edition - "Battle Of Wits" by Pharoh:
Please the organizers wishes to inform everyone not to beg any contestants concerning this debate and if anyone wishes to pull out, they are absolutely free to do so. If the debate is not possible anymore, it is more honorable to cancel it than to start begging any of the contestants. This is not the first time she has threatened to pull out of the debate, some threatened in the past and they have gone. If anybody wants to go they can go and that will not make the debate to crumble, so they are absolutely free to do so.

The child soldiers topic was chosen solely because of her even though it was not a popular topic and she has no right to threaten us about pulling out. The organizers reside in different time-zones and we have had sleepless nights in order to to meet and organize this debate, we have done a lot and will be uploading our work by the weekend. No one was paid to organize or take part in this debate, so lets respect one another and be reasonable with words and actions that tends towards disrupting the whole process.

It was because of her we are having two topics to debate, she threatened to pull out of the debate if the topic is not child soldiers. We gave in to her request and made the debate a two topic debate, because of this action a number of contestants pulled out as they said we valued and favored the wish of one contestant than the desires of the other contestants. Now again because of a simple joke, she is threatening again to pull out and what else will she threaten to pull out with if we don't call her stupid shit to her face right now. We have labored very hard to fill in the topics with a new set of contestants when the others pulled out because of her so a enough is a enough.

The credibility of our judges has never found wanting and we have faith in them to judge fairly, this is not the first time they are judging a debate so their credibility has never been questioned.Even if anyone wants to play foul, we have already included measures in our debate structure to cub that and this will be uploaded by the weekend. No one man is bigger than anyone here, so if any contestants has any issue concerning the debate, direct it to the organizers.

Apologies to any other person who might feel offended by the tone of this message ( or the message ) above but it just have to be presented that way for the records.

Thanks to Everyone
The Organizers

Personally to me, i don't think anyone should be begged to go ahead with the the debate if they don't want to. The approach and reaction to the harmless ( even if they are harmful ) joke its really uncalled for. A simple email to the organizers would have suffice to notify them of these jokes instead of threatening to back out from the debate.

It is funny that no one has told us to mind our business since we are not Yoruba's or from the southwest. In the other thread where an individual was able to sack a sitting local government from their official premises, we were told to mind our business and you wonder the kind of hypocrisy that exist in this country.

There should be a residency right like being electable to political positions within a geographical sphere of your residency. Also you should be eligible to work in your local or state government establishment and be appointed to positions of duty by the governments of your documented residency. The residency right should be conferred after a period of five to ten years and you do not need to be an indigene as this is a very different issue.
Politics › Re: Trouble In Ogun As Amosun Goes After Fake Teachers by Pharoh: 6:49am On Nov 12, 2012
The issuance of certificate in Nigeria after graduation is very bad and gives room for corrupt practices like this. I think any teacher caught to have used fake certificates should be jailed and made to pay a hefty fine to the state government. They should take this exercise seriously and see it through, it will be nice to have a new process and secure system of verifying certificates of teachers to be after this exercise.

DEBATE PRESENTATIONS AND REBUTTAL GUIDELINES

**We have one important feature that will be updated a few days before the main debate day on this part**

-The judges also will have a choice of either mailing their scores to the organizers or decide to paste it
on the threads if they are not concerned about their privacy.

-The presentations will be in the same font and size specified by the organizers.
Also, the supporting side will be in a uniform font colour that is different from a uniform font colour
specified for the opposing side.

-The presentations should contain arguments or points that are separated into paragraphs or in ordinal
form like my first or second argument.

-We hope the arguments are precise, straight forward and not too lengthy but should be at least five.

-The rebuttals should be precise also and separated in quotes for each argument, so if there are five
arguments to rebut then there should be five quotations with the accompanying questions for each.

-This same procedure is repeated for those replying to the questions thrown at them which should be
in separate quotations and their accompanying answers.

-All these should be in one post with it going back and forth until the given rebutting time interval
is elapsed.

-The judges and audience can throw their questions without quotations but the contestants should answer
with quotations and separated for each questions.

-The final statement should also be short but give a concise summary of the debate.

WORDS LIMIT:

There is a limit of 1000 words for each participant’s presentation and considerable less for
the arguments or closing statements.

Good luck to all participants, you can start preparing now.

Politics › Re: David Mark.. National Assembly Will Create More State, Anioma To Join Anambra by Pharoh: 7:29am On Nov 08, 2012
Ozonna: Dude, that's the only hope Anioma have for that state to be created. Whether u like it or not u'll be part of SE.

BTW Onitsha pple believe that they're not pure Igbo and that they're related to Asaba pple. Problem is will Anambra let go of their commercial hub centre Onitsha? I don't think so
Man our hope is definitely not depended on that as majority of Anioma people do not want that, so acting otherwise will only lead to protest, hostility and instability in that region.

That is what am saying that the people of onitsha and ogbaru are related to the people on the other side of the niger and will surely wish to be united with their kits and kins there. It is not hypocrisy of the highest order to be shouting that anioma people are igbos and at the same time screaming that onitsha should not be part of anioma state. What is wrong in onitsha moving to anioma state if they are truly igbos as these people want us to believe.

They cannot eat their cake and have it at the same time, all these shouts of aniomas are igbos are just politics and a desire to grab land, it is not about truly anioma being igbos or not. We were never part of the eastern region and neither were we part of biafra geographically and never can we be zoned to the south eastern region.
