Anioma state will be created and will never be zoned to the southeast . . .adding all the culturally lost lands will be an additional blessing but it will never be part of the southeast for any reason.

Tgirl4real: @ pharoah n Cuddle

What will the scoring format be like? And it seems I am d only judge that has been commenting so far.
We have done some work on that offline and will be posting it here later or in the main debate thread. On the other hand i can ask cuddie to send you a copy in advance but we planned to send the whole document later to the judges and contestants when it is complete. It will be rounded up by the weekend and only minor changes will affect the document from the feedback we are going to get from you and the others.

cdamsel: Can some1 pls summarize wat was said, can't read through 10pages.date looks fine 2 me
We will be having two debates on the 24th and 25th of November, the first topic deals with child soldiers and the other one deals with teenage sex. So we just need more contestants to fill in for any of the topics by indicating their interest here and we will take it on from there. We have some contestants already so just pick any of the topic below and let us know here.

TOPIC 1 - Child Soldiers, a good thing or not?. Should countries prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime? Should there be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity?

RESOLUTION 1 - It is a good thing and they only need proper drafted international guidelines to define the border towards it becoming child abuse and what constitutes crimes against humanity in the context of a child soldier.

RESOLUTION 2 - It is not morally a good thing as wars are made for adults only who can properly reason towards what is good and what is bad in the context of been responsible for their actions that can be termed criminal and crimes against humanity. In addition to that an international minimum age for war participation should be put into law and there should be stiff penalties for any parties involved in a war that goes against thesse laid down rules.

DATE:
TIME: 7 Pm to 10 Pm Nigerian Time

TOPIC 2 - Who is to blame when a child engages in sex ual activities without the right knowledge about harms associated with such;
is it the parents, media or teachers(government)?

RESOLUTION 1 - Parents should be blamed because they own these kids, it is their sole responsibility and the kids stay with them for most part of the day.

RESOLUTION 2 - The media, religious and educational institutions should be blamed because they are better equipped and more efficient in instilling such knowledge to these kids in face of modern source of influence like the internet, pornographic materials and smart phones.

I think these people should be left to decide what they want to call themselves and no need forcing the igbo thing on them. The Scottish people want to be separate from the English people so what stops these people from choosing their own unique identity. They have even gone as far as stating that they are to be called aniomas and not delta igbos anymore, so i think they deserve some respect and be left to chart their own destiny themselves.

How about we go with second or third weekend of November and the time of the debate should be between 6 pm to 9 pm Nigerian time?. So please lets fix the time and date so that we can update the template and the organizers can start worrying about other aspects of the debate.

Lol funny that some peeps were thinking that we are questioning the legality or right of a governor to sell a land that is under his domain. I am specifically saying that it is wrong to lease land to another state government as the law only allows you to lease or sell to individuals and organisations.

Prof Corruption: grin grin grin grin grin grin Stop being emotional. Your opinion does not count. What matters is how courts interpret these laws.

I have just shown you law is made for humans not goats. By the way, there is no such thing as a sovereign state in Nigeria. While sovereignty applies to Nigeria as a country, it's ridiculous to use such for component states in Nigeria. How sovereign is a state that can not create LG in her domain without the input of NASS?
You have been caught out lieing that any state adopted a particular religion as their state religion so stop patronizing me with ya brown teeths cheesy cheesy. Lol . . . And this same state can create her own traffic laws without the inputs of NASS that is unique only to it without it being replicated nationally?. Abeg make you pack well jare and you are the one adding sentiments and emotion to it by being blind to the facts on ground because you are probably yoruba or support ACN. cool

eGuerrilla: But it is okay to lease land to white farmers in Kwara, kwa?
I bet you also did not raise an eyebrow when land greater than the size of an entire city was awarded to one individual, as was the case here: https://www.nairaland.com/995349/obasanjo-lose-2500-hectares-land
So can you tell me how leasing Lands to Zimbabwe farmers and obasanjo became illegal as those actions did not go against the land use act?.
Politics › Re: Gov Amosun Allocates 500 Hectares Of Land To Lagos State by Pharoh: 6:44pm On Oct 25, 2012
Prof Corruption: You have a rudimentary appreciation of what law is all about. Quoting a preamble to a body of law without associated "ifs" and "buts" does not validate your position. I can even quote section 10 of our constitution that states inter alia "10. The Government of the Federation or of a State shall not adopt any religion as State Religion. " Many states in the North have adopted the Islamic Shariah Law effectively promoting Islam. Have they run foul of law? It's subject to individual interpretations. But their action remains largely legal until court(s) of competent jurisdiction rule against Shariah law in such states.

It's not illegal because you feel, believe or think so. It becomes illegal if a competent court rules as such.
So did any of the "ifs" and "buts" later made provision for a state government to allocate any state land to another state government?. For your information no northern state has adopted any religion as state religion so stop misinterpreting their actions and that does not mean am cool with the move they made.

It seems you guys just want to be blind to the fact and meaning of a state being sovereign and a federating unit inside the federal republic of Nigeria. Land is one of the most priced assets of a sovereign state and no way should you allocate it to another state for any purpose.

foyeks2001: Isn't there roster already of whose turn to pay d kids school fees, pay d utility bills even d house rent, so I see no biggy drawing another roster of whose turn 2 make dinner, wash dishes or bath d baby...our men are fast losing that *d head of d family thing*...all these sharing formular only exist amongst d so-called christians brothers...real muslims will never be in support of this because their religion is against this (it is a taboo sleeping wit a woman and also demanding money 4rm her)...a sister of mine who married a yoruba muslim 4rm Ijebuland, d man provides virtually everything they need...they ve been married now for 14yrs...
Lol . . . actually Christianity does not make provision for any formula ( percentage or turn by turn ) and this is purely just western influence in my opinion. It was mostly sharing of duties like the man providing for the home and the woman helping to take care of the home or other things. Don't you think drawing of roster in the domestic end might kill the love or fire in the marriage?. Even using this roster of a thing in the financial end might add tensions and other forms of issues to the marriage like disrespect as we men love submission respect so much cool. I think we should be careful and try to retrace our steps because this direction we have taken so has led to so many failed marriages and high rate of delayed marriages.
Politics › Re: Gov Amosun Allocates 500 Hectares Of Land To Lagos State by Pharoh: 6:20pm On Oct 25, 2012
Gbawe: Look, stop this show of pedantism and negativity for its own sake alone. The land could simply be leased to Lagos with Ogun perhaps even gaining some remuneration as leaseholder. Lagos requested the land and Ogun obliged.

Stop worrying about legality when it is perhaps the most inconsequential consideration here. The transfer of land for various use is very flexible in legality.
What is illegal is illegal and in this case, it is clearly shown from the land use act that there is no provision for this move. Concerning gaining some remuneration as the lease holder, i will not be surprised if that process will also be abused by leasing it for free or at a price below what they should have normally asked for due to party affiliations.

So the federal government of Nigeria can abandon agriculture and start leasing lands to the Chinese, Lebanese and Indians for food production right?.

Mondi_cheeks...thanks too
Thanks for summarizing the whole blabbing i had up there but i don't agree or believe in what you are referring to as equally or 50-50. Sharing finances and responsibility is out of love, sense of responsibility and all but putting it equally is not so nice oo. Before you know there will be drawing of roster that it is your turn to wash plate or bath the baby grin. Just share the whole responsibility according to how it suits the particular family but not equally as nothing like that is really practical to me.

Nigeria Land Use Act.

An Act to Vest all Land compromised in the territory of each State (except land vested in the Federal government or its agencies) solely in the Governor of the State , who would hold such Land in trust for the people and would henceforth be responsible for allocation of land in all urban areas to individuals resident in the State and to organisations for residential, agriculture, commercial and other purposes while similar powers will with respect to non urban areas are conferred on Local Governments.(27th March 1978) Commencement.

The Nigeria land use act does not make any provision for a sovereign state to allocate land to another sovereign state for whatever purposes. Let us do what is right for heavens sake in this country and not everything is about people trying to attack southwest or ACN as a party.

berem: hmmmm! O ga o!
Rooneyboy: oh boi the thing tire me o, which kind brotherly gesture be that ?
Hope it was not allocated for free? shocked That means the federal government of Nigeria can allocate land to another African country for food production in the name of West African regional integration. Every country in west African are sovereign states and that same sovereignty applies to states within Nigeria as they are presently the federating units of the country. This move is very strange in my opinion and what becomes of this when we eventually move from state of origin to state of residence?.

This regional integration is seen from the eyes of the southwest being Yoruba populated but if we eventually move to state of residence then it is not right for a state to allocate land to another state for food production.
KenGali: Since when did Lagos state become an agricultural company or farm? Lagos has not developed agriculture in her own land talk less of ogun state or who said agriculture is only about growing crops. Talk of land grabs!
This regional integration is becoming something else and i don't know anywhere in the world where this kind of integration happens.
well it is according to people in my profession...
I understand but to me it would have been okay to say women who work full time to cover every possible variation of working hours.

express101: It is a new phenomenon for many girls of this generation to conceive the idea of contributing financially to the household, esp as many of them saw their fathers take care of the bills almost entirely. These days, women earn comparable income to men, sometimes more. We r at the crossroads of this social change, and what both men and women should come to terms with, is understanding the reality of our times. On the other hand, men should understand that u shouldn't rule with the same iron fist u perhaps saw ur father rule with when they were footing d entire bill. It's do-able; a balance can be struck somewhere For sake of fairness
Thanks for this post and hitting the subject of new realities that we have come to face in modern times that needs adjustment from the way our father did things during their time when they footed the whole bill. You cannot talk about percentages of contribution without addressing the issue of how the home and children is to be taken cared of. It would just amount to a case of trying to eat your cake and having it at the same time. This same eating of cake applies to women too as you cannot keep all your money from your job and expect the man to help you domestically too at the same time.

It is either you treat it from the religious view where the woman is an help-mate, she keeps her womanly duties and helps you out of her free will. We can go back to our traditional ways where the woman either works in her husband business (farm) or does one or two petty jobs (buying and selling )without any significant income. She then comes home to show the husband the money ( the man doesn't take the money in most cases ) or uses her discretion to supplement one or two things in the house without necessarily informing the husband that provides for the home majorly.

Nowadays the reality is that women can now work and earn money which even sometimes is more than that of the husband. so if we are going the route of percentages that our fore fathers did not practice then the possibility of adjustments in the domestic end of the house becomes possible. For me both should share the responsibility in everything that concerns the home according to whatever agreement or system that suits both of them. One mans system might not be applicable to another family so couples should trash issues like this before saying i do.
lawyers, doctors, people with 2 jobs do
Yeah i see but whats the point of using it in this discussion when this same profession or jobs is not restricted to one particular gender?. Men are also doctors, lawyers, can do two or more jobs self like the woman, so we should just go with a working woman that works full time ( 7 to 8 hours ).

To me you were sounding like the above situation represents the majority percentage in reality which i think is not. For the purpose of this discussion a full time work is enough to pass the message you intended to and not trying to bring emotions into the discussion with that 14 hours a day job angle. Lets stick to normal working statistics for the purpose of this discussion and no need stretching it that far.

Hmm do people really work 14 hours per day or something between 6 to 8 hours then add the time spent in traffic to that? undecided
Family › Re: Coping With Marital Finances by Pharoh:
To me i believe this issue has always been approached from the wrong angle, it is either we follow the religious provision concerning this issue or stick to our traditional process but refined and restructured with modern realities. I am a man and the mere fact that the woman works or she is also employed does not make it compulsory to contribute to the household but she will contribute somehow but not in the sense of the percentages in my opinion.

Please

Topic 1 - You are either supporting the parents and blaming the media, teachers(government) or you are blaming the parents and absolving the media, teachers(government)

Topic 2 - it is either you are in support of child soldiers as a good thing or you are not in support.

So please contestants should choose the topic they want to debate, choose the side ( supporting or opposing ) and then tel what time is good to hold the debate on the selected day. It is a very simple thing to do and lets not start pushing things here and there again.
