JallowBah: Topic one; Both parties. Come on now, that is difficult to choose from. But if I have to choose, its the media. It puts pressure.

Topic 2: Nr two. Easy..there should not even be war.
Please this is not the time to be going in circles, if you are a contestant just choose which topic you want to debate, which side are you arguing for and what time is best for the selected date if it is different from the proposed time.

^^

Everyone has to come again and agree to the new topic by making their comments here then after that we can start adding, we are not really dragging anybody back as there are some little changes to the topics.

So i believe both of them can see it, give feedback about the topic, date and time then we can add their names after that.

[b]TOPIC 1 - Who is to blame when a child engages in sex ual activities without the right knowledge about harms associated with such;
is it the parents, media or teachers(government)?

RESOLUTION 1 - Parents should be blamed because they own these kids, it is their sole responsibility and the kids stay with them for most part of the day.

RESOLUTION 2 - The media, religious and educational institutions should be blamed because they are better equipped and more efficient in instilling such knowledge to these kids in face of modern source of influence like the internet, pornographic materials and smart phones.

TOPIC 2 - Child Soldiers, a good thing or not?. Should countries prosecute child soldiers for the crimes they committed during wartime? Should there be an international minimum age of criminal responsibility for war crimes and crimes against humanity?

RESOLUTION 1 - It is a good thing and they only need proper drafted international guidelines to define the border towards it becoming child abuse and what constitutes crimes against humanity in the context of a child soldier.

RESOLUTION 2 - It is not morally a good thing as wars are made for adults only who can properly reason towards what is good and what is bad in the context of been responsible for their actions that can be termed criminal and crimes against humanity. In addition to that an international minimum age for war participation should be put into law and there should be stiff penalties for any parties involved in a war that goes against thesse laid down rules.

[b]Debate Update!!!

Please we have decided on the two topics for the debate and i will make the template after this post so contestants should not quote me. You can just tell which debate you are going for, are you supporting or against the argument and what time is good for you if it is different from our proposed time.

This exercise should last until Monday and if we cannot make any headway at that date then the debate will be called off. If all contestants are able to make their choice known then we will announce the final participants and give the go ahead to start preparing for the debate. All other aspects of the debate will be communicated from then on as we have settled the issue of topics, debaters, date and time.

So please i beg every contestants, those who are in and those who have pulled out to forget the past and lets make one final effort to have the debate from this point onward. Please make your choice known after my next post and thanks a lot for your cooperation and participation. cool smiley
Revisiting the first topic of debate is a not a bad idea. limiting it to just child soldiers will be to Efemena xys' advantage, it is evident that she has done her research on this topic. with the passion she has for child soldiers, she will win. that will be unfair to the other debaters. I agree with a challenging topic that every debater can excel in. All the best to debaters. I will cheer you up on that day.
Thank you for your input and its really appreciated, i can see the sense in what you have suggested. Anyway i will just leave it to the contestants to decide and everyone is free to make suggestion or modification to the topics. So contestants please can we have your inputs concerning the two topics to debate and for a topic to be accepted then it has to be agreed by two or more contestants.

Thanks and awaiting your suggestions. smiley
efemena, this should not be an issue. i just felt all contestants should be put into consideration when picking a topic. you had earlier stated that you were going to support child soldiers which means you are prepared. there are several other topics to choose from, child trafficking and the likes. all the debaters should be instrumental in the selection, it is not a one woman show. if i were the organizer i for challenge you with a different topic, make we see how wise the warri man truly is tongue
Lol, well for the topic to stand it needs those who are comfortable to either be in support and against it. If this is not possible to accomplish then the topic will be changed to another where we can get comfortable contestants on both sides. We really don't want to impose topics on the contestants for this episode and we have seen evidence of subtle threats that we are trying to avoid. cool
Literature › Re: Nairaland's Literary & Debating Day - Season 2 - You Are Cordially Invited! by Pharoh: 7:35pm On Oct 21, 2012
freecocoa: Can we all agree on a topic already? This will enable the debaters do their research(if need be) before the said date.
That is why i made those additional topics because there were some comments about the proposed topic. So contestants should agree about the topics from the list or suggest alternatives. There will be two debate, one on Saturday and the other one will hold on Sunday. So it will be two topics, the child related topic will be on Saturday and the other one will be on Sunday.

firestar: I second this.
Since this topic has already gotten two vote, i will move it to the first topic as it is pending further modification. The topic will need at least one supporting contestant and one opposing contestant to be debatable.

HumbledbYGrace: I hope we r allowed to choose topics from da new ones I seriously can't wait.can I steal one topic pls?
Yes contestant can choose from the topics posted on this thread and they are free to suggest more. Please feel free to steal any topic but let me know the topic first wink.

Tgirl4real: Wow! I am loving dis new topics esp. D first one. I wish the guys are allowed to debate.

...Now where is Sagamite? cheesy

Well...may be we should just stick to children topics to avoid sentiments and prejudiced points. Just joking though. grin
Maybe we can do justice to the first topic in the next debate but for now, will like to hear your suggestion about the topic wink. If you like the the first topic then suggest a definite topic that concerns one or all three of child soldiers, trafficking and domestic abuse. Child soldiers already got two votes but lets have more and you can also suggest from the new topics.

Weak laws, guidelines and penalties etc are the bane of continued child soldiers, trafficking and abuse in times of war. ( open for modification ).

Who is to blame when a child engages in sex ual activities without the right knowledge about harms associated with such;
is it the parents, media or teachers(government)?

New Topics:

Financial and material Compensation are the main reason women seek divorce from rich husbands in cases of spouse infidelity.

To what topic? . . . we still have to frame the resolution for the debate though.

cowgurl: @Pharoh, loved ur post but I feel we are so behind time i.e if we are still holding this debate on the 3rd of Nov, so 'l suggest we work with the 2 topics already listed on here and let contestants indicate their stand esp on the first topics (opposing or supporting like Efemena did) then we proceed from there but if you guys already have something else mapped out, please paste it ASAP and let's get this phase done with by the weekend as it has dragged on for so long now.

**I know am still on the pending list, will definitely take my stand before the debate commence**
Thanks for your comment and suggestion, we will post almost (if not final )or the final procedure and components of the whole debate by Saturday morning or afternoon. We have been working behind the scenes so everything will be rounded up this weekend and contestants can start preparing for the debate proper. It might be possible that one topic might take the most interest and we don't want to leave anyone out that has shown interest in this debate. So i had a discussion with cuddle and we have decided to throw more topics to the thread for evaluation.

The two topics above are what we have to go with by default for now but if the topics am going to paste interest the ladies or is better then let us know on this thread. These same topics can be used for later debates if not picked now but it will be good to go with topics that is easy to work it due to the time constraints at the moment.

Rocktation: The thing now is, I don't think that I'll have a lot to say on this topic, as there wouldn't be a lot to even draw from research. It's going to be more like a discussion and there'd be almost nothing to refute. The child soldiering/abuse promised more controversies and challenge and I was willing to do reaaaal assignments. Buh now...tsk tsk. I just hope that I'm not falling your hand, Cuddles... embarassed. But I really don't feel this.
Actually the stated topic is not written in stone and since this debate is specifically restricted to the women folk then the topic is open for changes. Maybe a list of topics can be posted latest by tomorrow and the intending contestants can choose the most interesting and challenging of the lot. If you have more examples of topics to debate then you can suggest it here and others can do likewise. Good to see actual discussion on the thread now and hopefully before the end of the week, other aspects of the debate will be made known.

Thanks for your feedback

Barcelona has the highest running cost in terms of players wages in the whole world and so much for their blabbing of you assembled your team expensively but we still pay them less salaries than they. I also believe people do not know the total cost of assembling a football team and just blab unnecessarily about the present cost without looking at the total cost.

The best way should have been for the organizers to just go with any kind of judges and encourage them to leave their bias behind instead of trying to look for people who were neutral and that is really impossible in my opinion so lets stop deceiving ourselves.

Nice topic and i should say that yes, you are right in what you said but i will go with the poster that said you cannot eat your cake and have it. The only solution is to minimize the effect the new environment has on you if you hope to retain your own culture or way of life. You have to compromise at some point because the more cake you eat the less you can have of it and i think community effort will help in retaining your cultural values and not individualistic efforts.

From the movies i watch of american citizens, i think the Asians and Latinos somehow still preserve their cultural aspects better than emigrated Africans in america. I think mostly there is no time to impact the cultural values on the young ones because the parents are busy. They might not be from the same ethnic group and also the peer group of these kids are from mixed cultures so everyone is likely to communicate in English language when in the school or streets.

Pls, how can i play or use Wildcard?
Wildcard is used for unlimited transfers during one game week without any point deduction. Just go to transfer and remove one player from your team, then the play wildcard button will be activated. So click on it and continue making your transfers. You can transfer your entire team and i would advice you to only use it when it actually makes sense to do so.

Will use mine in Game Week 4 cool
