If you had said exactly this I could have appreciated your genuine concern. But you slighted the list of accountancy bodies in the UK and mention even a lower technician body but left CIMA which is one of the biggest body in the whole world out. Probably you noticed I said I was CIMA qualified.

Bros, we are not kids so let’s stop side stepping conversation. Let’s be genuine in our conversations.

Thank you
I always used to think that CIMA was more management accounting and can be restrictive, most studied by those accountants who worked for the council. please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

Hello Ancestors,
Please help
I have a tenancy agreement of 6 months renewable every six month.sometimes in October ,agent sent me mail for renewal to which I told them that am not signing another six month because I may be moving out.The contract expires on 17th December,Am I still supposed to give any notice as I am moving out on expiry. The agency are saying I should give one month notice and that means one month payment which I thought is not required at expiration of contract.Pls help me understand what I should put thro to landlord or agent ooo.

TIA
Just let it go into a rolling contract which means you and your landlord give 1 and 2 months notice respectively.

Any individuals, whether employees or self employed can claim allowance regarding their mortgage interests; it all depends on how they have arranged their property acquisition to capture this tax benefit.

But be assured that the mortgage interest benefit can be claimed by both employees and self employed.
I believe there is also a sting to this benefit when you come to sell your property. You will have to pay capital gains tax on that percentage as it will not be treated as residential. So most accountants don’t advise their clients to do this as the disadvantages outweigh the advantages.

Most of this stealings happening in Europe especially pocket picking, luggages and bags snatching and passport thiefs are mostly been done by the Africans themselves.

And the Nigeria government needs to do proper investigation on the matter, because most of all this traveling agents do conspire with others to seize the passport of their clients.
This is not true, there’s very high pick pockets in Barcelona and London and it’s mostly done by Eastern Europeans especially Romanians.

It’s called socialising, nobody forced anyone to drink. You just use sense to follow these people so you wouldn’t be tagged as antisocial. I could be nursing the same glass of wine for the evening or even have sparkling water and lime which will look like a gin and tonic.

Ahahah, this is very relatable, I will ask myself shey na work we come do or chop and flex,Seriously they work smart and play hard, we have been watching all World Cup matches in the office , if you see our kitchen with food, fruits and edibles, I will just be thinking and crying silently of my working experience in Nigeria, Every Thursdays is Drink night at my office too, Fridays for bonding night, we chose an activity we do which can be indoor or outdoor, Last Friday was Axe Throwing which I never did in my life, we ended up in a club, I had to run home to meet my family, we spent not less than 800£, Sometimes I wonder they make profit with all of their expenses.
It seems as if you are describing my work place, every Thursday is “Thirsty Thursday”. Are you sure we don’t work for the same company? grin grin

Nigeria is a failed state and it’s government has failed its citizens gravely. There’s no plan for the future I wish most citizens of Nigeria will get the opportunity to travel out side of the country to see how things are done , maybe they will hold the leaders to account.

Good day Sir/Ma, looking at the issues been discussed on tax, please hope there is no issues having two full time jobs.
You can only claim your personal allowance in one of the jobs, the other one will have the BR code which will mean more tax.

Your best bet is to choose the high income job as your main job..

Thank you for this. Just to ask please, I am on a 1250L tax code, I just got a new job and I'm resuming 14/11. Which is a better option please..Ask for p46 from new employer or give a p45 from old employer?
Give a p45 from your old job.

I can remember filling the P46 form when I joined. I was initially on the correct tax code. However, in April (new tax year) it changed to BR. Do I have to do the P46 again?
No you don’t need to.

When you filled it out, what statement did you tick?

Have you got any other source of income or at any time, did you have more than one job?

If this is your only job, you need to phone HMRC and let them know. Your employer can’t do much as they can only change your code once they get a notification from HMRC.

I quite agree on the bolded.
Some of them are either greenhorns or haven’t been properly trained in complex tax matters.

One of their staff I spoke with one time was asking to get back to my employer, what she could easily have done from her end.
It’s better she calls again to understand what the explanation is and know her tax code(s)
That’s the sad truth, the council workers are the same also, they are like a set of demotivated workers just time watching waiting to go home.

God bless you for this piece! I was just about seeking clarity on dealing with HMRC. I have been on BR tax code since April 2022 which I have been chasing them. I was told I have 2 conflicting records on their system which they have to harmonize and this should be done by October. However, I just got by October payslip and I am still on the BR code. I am really tired of these people ooo....
Amen, you are most welcome.

Ask your employer to give you a P46 form to fill out or phone HMRC and give them your new Employers paye reference. Tell them that this is your only and main job. They should be able to rectify it immediately. These days payroll is done in real-time so you don’t have to wait till the end of the year to get your tax code adjusted.

Thanks for the response. Actually, this is my first job, and my accumulated income since August till now is not up to 12,000 pounds yet.
I called d HMRC to inform them abt this development, but they were giving me some unreasonable excuses that they have to divide the expected accumulated taxable income by 2 and that since my accumulated income is more than 6000 pounds presently that I have to start paying tax. This explanation is not yet clear to me though
Your personal allowance of £12,500 e.g before tax has to be divided by 12 if you are paid monthly or by 52 if you are paid weekly for e.g. let us assume that your tax code has got a M1 or W1 at the end, it will not be accumulated if you joined your job midway through the tax year.

Example 1
Someone with tax code 1250LM1 joins 6 months into the tax year, your personal allowance will be £12,500 divided by 12 . (£1,041.67 ) before tax is deducted on a monthly basis.

Example 2
If your tax code is 1250L and you join your job 6 months into the tax year you will have to accumulate a personal income of £1,041.67x6 (£6,250), before any tax is deducted. You might end up not having any tax deducted in your first months pay.

Example 3
If your tax code is BR this means that your have another job where you have used up your personal allowance and you will not have any personal allowance in this new job, so your money will be taxed without any personal allowance.
To avoid this kind of situation you can either ask your new employer to give you a P46 to sign . On that form make sure you tick statement B stating that this is your main job. Or you can phone the HMRC with your new employer’s PAYE reference code and they will adjust it for you by sending them a tax code notification.

Also when it comes to phoning the HMRC it depends on who you talk to. Like most government departments, some of their staff are very unhelpful and try to fob you off. While you will get that one staff who will take their time to help you and explain to you in such a way that you will understand. If you get one unhelpful person hang up and phone again until you can get help. Unfortunately in my line of work we have to deal with the HMRC and most of their staff are utterly useless. Sometimes it’s like dealing with the Nigerian civil service.
