Orlando Pirates midfielder Khethokwakhe Masuku latest victim of a notorious cellphone conman.

The criminal has been using Masuku's number, claiming that the Bucs star has been arrested and needs money to pay for a bail.

The con artist then dupes people to deposit money at Shoprite Checkers.

Several soccer players and officials, including Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite, Mamelodi Sundowns striker Katlego Mphela, University of Pretoria defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Sundowns official Alex 'Goldfinger' Shakoane, have been victims of the conman in the past.

Masuku's manager Abbie Rasimphi has warned people to ignore cellphone messages claiming Masuku has been arrested.

"There has been someone using Masuku's number," Rasimphi says. "The person is sending messages to people claiming to be arrested and asking them to deposit money at Shoprite to help him pay the bail.

"I want to warn people to ignore such messages – Masuku has never been arrested."
