Can you show your workings on how you arrived at Dangote Rice is valued at 10 times of Dangote Sugar.

Didn't mention anything like value I just said something about the OS.
Valuing a company that one has not seen its by balance sheets will almost be impossible.

You need to consider the outstanding shares of Dangote Rice

DRL OS fit reach like times ten of DSR.
This in my thinking is alhaji way of getting more ownership or control of his company. A real capitalist!

When military take over, there won't be sugar, salt or rice again in the market. You cannot use you Airtel or MTN line to make calls. People will not build houses again using cement. There will not be fuel to purchase in our vehicles. Planes will not fly from our airport runways anymore. All banks will shutdown and your monies wiped out .
Within one year, life will seize to exist.

Shey that's what u want to hear

What some of them want to hear about Nigeria is bad news. Any positive thing no dey give them joy since their candidate lost an election. I guess he was surprised NSE is still going up.
The way those people celebrate coup in Africa and wish same happens in our country is really troubling.

What is your opinion on the rights. Do we leave the rights for the chairman. Do fbn really need to raise more cash with the way they have managed the bank in the past.what happened to all the bad loan. Are we sure the new cash will not end up in another round of bad loans

FBN needs that capital.
Check out their CAR, it is on the edge and the lowest among tier 1 banks.

@BBM
I think Pa Emma asserts that people pay "less attention to value" and more to price, just hinting that the irrationality seen by @mashai is expected to continue. More like a general comment not specifically insinuating that @mashai is focusing on price.

Abeg early morning grammar go woundjure manpikin grin

You might actually be the one that is misinterpreting Emma who I think is of the opinion that the prices we see are still justified by economy and company fundamental.

1. First Bank N53.7bill
2. UBA. N41.7bill
3. Access N30.1bill
4. Zenith Bank N24.95bill
5. FCMB. N12.5bill
6. GTCO. (-N4.bill)

All as at 1st January 2023.

Should influence income statement in H1and if the ratio of First Bank is anything to go by i.e N53.667 to N210.16 bill = x3.916 , the maths could be interesting. Let’s see how the maths plays out with Zenith Bank H1 first.

Nice one.
Thanks for the info.

Some banks will benefit more than others.

Note this: The top 5 benefactors will be FBNH, FCMB, GTCO, Zenith and UBA according to a Chapel Hill report.

Please this is not a buy or sell recommendation

Can you please post a link to the chapel hill report.

Fantastic result, on the surface.
A closer look, however, shows bulk of the profit was from 'Fair Value' of financial assets; huge in Q2 (N236b) but marginally negative in Q1. They bought heavily into derivative assets in Q2. Notes 9 and 18 and the Statement of Cash Flows revealed.

What would be the fair value of those assets by YE? Up or down? The Audited accounts would reveal. So caution be applied.

Market might not send sha, so price could skyrocket from tomorrow. EPS of N5+ is no joke. We know price movement is not very dependent on the fine prints.

I was thinking the extraordinary profits would have come from foreign exchange gain. That particular segment actually recorded losses.
I am still trying to understand how they arrive at this Net gains/(losses) from financial instruments at fair value through profit or loss, huge I must say.
Could this be a prelude to what we should expect from other banks?
This is when you need oga Wanaj0 for better understanding!

You remove subsidy and free up more cash. Instead of investing them in critical infrastructure to better the lives of the citizenry, you decide to share the largesse among the tiers of govt where a lot of it will get looted and in turn put more pressure on your FX. It can only get interesting

We have taking the first step to stir the country from a self destructive path which is to generate more revenue.
The government at the center has practically been running her affair on borrowed funds. We barely generate enough to service our debt. We definitely can't continue like that. With more money accruing to the FG, my expectations is that we will reduced the rate at which we borrow money to run our budget. If we can generate enough to cover our recurrent expenditure, then we will be on the right path.
We can then begin to look for creative and sustainable means to fund our infrastructure.

TA is trying to anticipate future human behavioural patterns, which is very complex. The inclusion of 'if' statements allows us to consider various scenarios and outcomes, ensuring a comprehensive analysis of market trends and potential movements

In summary there would be a volatility.
However the next big news will add the most potent steroid injection 💉 to ASI.
Tinubu victory at the Tribunal, this will negate the TA and give credence to SA.
The only unchartered territory that I 'm seeing is ATH uninterrupted bullish trend of 18 months, regardless of World economy indices, provided there is no Coup de tat or sudden demise of Tinubu.

I don't think you should talk more about TA. Some things may defy FA in the stock market but I believe everything can be seen on the charts depending on the experience and knowledge of the one interpreting it.........

I am still struggling to understand why UBA is lagging more and more behind Access. I thought fundamentally UBA is better than ACCESS when looking at 2022 data and year end market prices for investment earlier in the year. But with the closing trade of 2023 half year, ACCESS has dusted UBA further behind. It will be interesting to see mid year audited data for the banks. I wonder what exchange rate they will use for preparing their books.

Access paid better dividend last financial year.
UBA will need to do better with dividend payment if they want to catch access.

grin, i think it's relative to time, experience, and fund commitment.

A decade experience should at least shape one's investing lifestyle provided there's reasonable fund commitment.

It's easy to get overly excited about FA or TA, until experience does her thing.

It is good to see you here again.

Even if unity bank is recapitalized today, existing shareholders will still loose out, though I doubt if any business man will put his money into that hole. The implication of negative shareholder value is that the share doesn't worth anything.
We are not saying people should not buy the share but people should at leat understand what they are getting into

Does it mean people should not post what they think is an opportunity again?

Anybody can post anything as his/her opinion.
Taking criticism about what one post is another thing. You take contrary opinion well unlike some who don't want people to ask questions about what they post here.

We do not have enough data from Access holdings due to change of name in 2022. That makes using price comparison for 2 year forecast a bit challenging. However, based on 52 weeks data, technically, Access (dark yellow line) looks possibly to give the best capital appreciation, followed by ETI (brown line). UBA is red line while NSE index is the blue line.

I also attempted to look at few FA parameters (Not my area; just doing "gbeborun"wink )
In terms of Value: UBA has the lowest P/E ratio (1.71), suggesting it might be undervalued compared to the other 2 banks. Access = 2.60/ ETI = 2.0

Growth: Access shows the highest EPS (4.83) , which may suggest higher growth potential. UBA = 4.8/ ETI = Confused showing me 0.01

Dividend Yield: UBA has the highest dividend yield of 13%, UBA may return the most income relative to the share price.
ACCESS = 10%
ETI=8.5%

I know both UBA and ACCESS pay dividend consistently but not sure of ETI.

Conclusion
-If it's capital appreciation + Dividend = Best is ACCESS. Followed by UBA
-If it's dividend focused = UBA followed by ACCESS.

Any clarifications on the TA part, kindly let know. For FA, we have great gurus in the house to ask.
grin grin grin grin grin

How did you get 13% as dividend yield for UBA?

I think it's better he starts with money he can afford to loose. That way, he is able to pay school fees in the stock market. Experience is the best teacher

I don't share that sentiment that people should invest what they can afford to loose.
Many have burnt their fingers and have never returned to the market again.
My own no 1 rule is do not loose money.

You can keep your money and start learning.
There are two basic methods. Fundamental and technical analyses. .
You will be better off if you learn and can may a buy or sell decision by yourself.
