I think PointB would give a current update ( will update us again ) on the state of things before we start voting.

.
We are still nominating. Voting has not commenced, and may not likely commence until next week.

manny4life: I thought we all had an understanding on the previous thread that Onlytruth will join us before we proceeded with this? I don't know if it has started but I do know that PointB commenced the nominations. On the previous thread, he already tallied the total.
Actually, when the initial idea was to start the nomination yesterday. But we had to postpone it to 900 GMT today, with the impression that OnlyTruth would have been unbanned by then. I didn't know his ban would last this long, as I didn't see any serious infraction he committed. I hope he joins us soon.

I am also constraint personally for time and may not be able to initiate the process if I waited too long. Knowing our penchant for impatience, and the need to ensure many are involved, it is important to start the process early today, and let it run through the weekend. I hope my explanation is understood, and like I said, I hope OnlyTruth will understand when he joins us.

Bye-Election may be confused to mean bye bye election. This election is not intended to say goodbye to anyone but to usher in a new Eze.
Noted, effected, thanks.

Welcome back all of you. I believe Onlytruth would join us in the course of the proceedings.

So let's get this nomination started. Subject to rules stated on the first pages, bonafide members of our Igbo community may now commence nomination of their choice candidates for the Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland election. Please note that you are entitled to make make two nominations. One may also sufffice.

Let me also restate that the Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland stool is exclusively reserved for the male folks, while the Eze Nwanyi is for the female. The Eze Nwanyi position is NOT vacant, and we should not be nominating any female poster at this time. Therefore, those females who have been nominated will not reflect in the update.

Nomination made previously on this thread updated below. Kindly gently nudge me if there is any omission:

Nomination Update.
Alex101 - 2
Onlytruth - 1
KittyKings - 1

Alex101's self nomination will also be taken as acceptance of nomination.

Let's roll...

@pointb the same mistake cannot be repeated twice. interested folks for the ezeship should declare their intentions so votes are not scattered to people who are not interested and does not what what the job entails or someone withdrawing after nominations. Someone already declared in the other thread.
I understand your fears, but I believe our constitution covers that part. The declaration in the other thread will be taken into consideration when nomination resumes by tomorrow.

9ja_I_hail: The time has come again, umu igbo come out and make your voice heard. We always avoid elections and reforms but we can be quick to point out the failure of our leaders, now is the time let everyone come here and make his/her choice.

In the last reform ogugua whom most of you doubted her igboness was committed and devoted throughout the election and reform more than whole lot of us who claimed to be more igbo than her.Let us seize this opportunity and make good choice.

PointB i want to assured you of my readiness to work with you as to maintain my previous role, but i cannot assure anyone of my readiness to contest the Ezeship.

Should in case my presence appear to be missing tonight bear in mind that i will resume fully from this weekend. Right now it is 6am where i reside but i will do as little as i can before i will finally leave for my daily bread.

If i may suggest, why not appoint someone as an interim Eze while we map out time and fix election date?

Thank you all powerful igbos.
Thanks for the (re)assurance, it lifts heart to work with you again. I have also lingered on beyond my normal time, would be off anytime soon. However nomination (in the other thread) will commence by 9.OO GMT tomorrow.

There is currently no need for interim Eze, as there is no vacancy yet until the election is concluded as he has accepted to continue until then.

Furthermore, I also believe that the Eze Nwanyi would have been in better position to hold the stool if he hadn't volunteered to stay on. The electoral committee would be the last option in the worst case.

alex101: Dear umuIgbo, I humbly nominate my self. I do so not because I want to lead you great people of Igbo race, rather I want to serve you all. If I'm elected Eze, my main aim will be for Ndigbo to embrace the importance of the media and use it to their advantage and to correct the wrong impressions which our enemies have used to apport all manner of falsehood against us in Nigeria. I may not have all the time in the world to be on NL 24/7, but I promise to make myself available as often as I can. Again as we elect/nominate a new Eze, let's watchout for impostors/fake with all manner of IDs. Thanks and Godbless Ndigbo.

Afam4eva: I think it will be better you open a separate thread for the elections. I'll also suggest that once the preliminary nomination is over, those that are nominated should signify if they accept to contest or not. So that we don't elect someone who will not be disposed to being an Eze.
No problem. The new thread has been opened, and other things will be taken care of.

I would like to appeal that you use your good office to see OnlyTruth unbanned if he hasn't been. I cannot overemphasis his importance to this process.

PoliticsEze Ndi Igbo Nairaland By-Election 2013: Nominations by PointB(op): 9:32pm On Feb 21, 2013
Umu Igbo,

Consequent upon the resignation of Eze Odumchi, vis-à-vis the need to continue with our tradition of Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland, we once again call upon you to lend your voice in the nomination of ‘fit and proper’ Igbo man capable of leading us online in the 21st century.

The Nomination rules are stated below:

SECTION 1: NOMINATION RULES
The nomination rule’s primary objective is to ensure that ‘fit and proper’ Igbo are allowed to stand for election.
1.1 - An individual can nominate two forumers to contest against the incumbent Eze if:
a - Profiling of such forumer indicates s/he is a ‘fit and proper’ Igbo
b - Such forumer has been a registered and active poster at least three months prior to the election (an endorsement by 10 eligible forumers shall however suffice for a waiver)
c -Such forumer does not have pattern of denigrating our institution (Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland) or our people (Igbos of any state).
d. Such member is not under ban or suspension for infraction of rules or for unadulterated hatred against fellow Igbo
1.2 - An individual can be nominated for the role of Eze/Eze Nwayi if s/he satisfies the conditions above in addition to having a fairly good history of defending Igbo cause online.

1.3 - GROUNDS FOR DISQUALIFICATION

An individual will be DISQUALIFIED from standing for elective position if
a. He breaches any section of the Nomination Rule OR
b. Such individual has an opposition to his candidacy totaling not less than 1/3 of his/her total nominations.
c. Nominees who do not accept their nominations after the deadline determined by the electoral commissioner, SHALL be disqualified.
d. Where all nominees fail to accept their nomination, the incumbent shall be returned unopposed.

1.4 - DISQUALIFIED CANDIDATES CAN:
a. Appeal to Election Tribunal
b. Appeal to the Eze and his council as the final arbiter

1.5 - OTHERS
a. Nominations done with known multiple User IDs, shall not count
b. Two nominees to amass the highest nomination shall be polled alongside the incumbent Eze, subject to the outcome of any or all petitions against their candidacy.
1.6 ASSUMPTION
A basic assumption of the Nomination Rule is that an incumbent Eze exist at all times. Where an Eze does not exist (due to removal or other reasons) the Electoral Commissioner shall increase the number of candidates standing for election by one.

I would appeal that it is very important that conduct due diligence (profiling) before nominating any candidate. And due to time constraint, and the need to quickly fill any potential leadership void, a period of three (3) day (plus or minus one) depending on the event shall be allowed for nomination. A day shall be set aside for unfolding of manifestos (agendas, debates, campaign etc) leading to the election.

Umu Igbo, we have to move on. Let the nominations NOW formally proceed.

To help with this process will be Afam4ever, 9ja_I_hail, and Ujchief who served a members of the Electoral Tribunal in the last election.
PoliticsRe: The Second Eze Ndi Igbo Parliamentary Office by PointB: 9:24pm On Feb 21, 2013
Ngwakwe: We need Onlytruth back in our fold before further deliberations.

For maximum impart, how do we create the awareness of our search for a new Eze.

Afam4eva, can we get a thread posted on the front page to this effect.

Our progress is a task that must be achieved.

Ndigbo will definitely get their fair share of the National Cake and consequently take their seat in the comity of Nations.
We don't really want this particular thread on the front page. There is so much show of shame here. If we want a thread that will be on front page, then we do need to create a new thread. In anycase, we don't want any Igbo man, we want those who are much in tune with happenings here. I am sure those people who have seen and monitor this thread if they are Igbo conscious.

If I get another another positive go ahead, I will create a new thread. But the task is huge, and my time online is very limited. Who would like to bear this cross for a change?

berem: @pointb,as OAM4J rightly said, why not create an entirely different thread for the nominations? daaalu
I understand him, and you. Just want to be sure it is what Umu Igbo want. Besides, I must also confess that it a tedious job and time is not a luxury for me at the moment. If I have a volunteer to handle the election, I would be more than willing to let go this portfolio.

Any volunteer? Or what say we?

isale_gan2: Commissioner PointB,

Will Odumchi be recorded as an Eze despite his short stint, or will the title revert back to the previous Eze while a new one is being searched? Remember when a Miss America was dethroned/resigned, they never mentioned her again, and only her runner up is now officially referred to as that year's Miss America. I hope you understand my point. undecided

Who is eligible to nominate? It is clear above who is eligible to BE NOMINATED, but not clear who is eligible to DO THE NOMINATING. I don't want to waste my time. wink
Eze Odumchi is the former Eze, as soon as new election is conducted. At the moment he is still the Eze.

At the bolded. Those who are qualified to be nominated also qualify to nominate.

OAM4J: The underlined refer:

Nominations on this thread? I thought you normally create a new thread for such and push for homepage for more participation. No?
To be frank, I am a little wary how our Mods have approached the issue of our election, especially the last one, and supposed this would better served under the radar. But if I hear from Umu Igbo, I will consider opening another thread.

I appreciate your concern though. Thanks.

Bliss4Lyfe: No gov should be allowed to exact the kind of force we witnessed used on Eze Only Truth today, after his diligent service to Ndi-igbo nairaland. sad

It was a gross violation of Human Rights, shocked either authority is restored or anarchy continues.

In the real word, some people today will be branded human rights abusers.
I didn't even know OnlyTruth was banned until I read it in the complaint thread. But I can't hold Afam responsible for that, even as I disagree with his threat of banning him. I understand it was Mukina2 that pull the trigger. That said, I must also state that Afam has been a valuable member of the electoral team, and his contribution is always appreciated.
