occam: Comparing 2 data points (last yr vs. this year) is not a trend. Let's see the next 4 - 5 yrs if our score continues to improve. That's how you judge improvement in transparency level. You want to celebrate the 27 score? go ahead, that's okWhat is the point of going 5 years back, when the government you have built your argument on is barely 2 years old? Do you believe it is reasonable to blame the current regime for corrupt practices of incidents of 5 years ago? I think not. What I expected objective critic to do is to compare the TI rating of last year with this rating to conclude if under the current government, it is indeed getting worse or better. Any other comparison, such as you proposed, is mischievous and lack objectivity! |
Farouk the son of Lawan (Theme: Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer) You know Salisu Buhari And Ghali Naa’ba Patricia called Etteh And Bank-ole and so on But do you recall, The most crooked representathief? Farouk the son of Lawan Was a very outspoken man And if you ever knew him, You would even say upright All of the other looters Use to hail and call him good They always doff their hats For Mr. Integrity Then one foggy subsidy probe Otedola came with doughs While the tapes rolled frame by frame Farouk caroused the doughs When Nairalanders heard these They collapsed in heaps and sighs "Farcrook the son of Lawan You belong to the Hall of Shame!" Keep the nominations coming, let's nail this crook! ![]() |
kulutempa: Point of correction sir. That's a very skewed way of putting it. The score was 27% whereas the previous one was 24%. The percentage is regardless of number of countries involved. It is an absolute value! |
occam: Holding bragging rights over countries like Eritrea, Somalia or Tajikistan is improvement? We're still neck and neck with Pakistan, a perennial offender and true symbol of corruption.Isn't it better that we hold bragging right over them, than for them to hold it over us? Or are you just criticizing for the sake of it? To the extent that marginal improvement count for noting in your book, but a drop will suit you better? Guy, if the guy on the street measure stuff by their belly, must you join them? Isn't it your duty to objectively analyze issue, in such a manner that differentiate you from the guy on the street? Corruption and looting is not on the rise, unless you believe in the propaganda sold to the guy on the street. On the contrary, corruption and looting are been exposed rather than the grand cover up we were used to in the past. Thanks to transparency in the current regime, we now have an idea how much is spent annually at Aso Rock for feeding and entertainment of staff and guests. Do you know how was spent during Obj and Yar Adua era for same purpose? I guess not! But objective people hear the figures, and scream "looting", folks like us see the same and start with "transparency" before further analysis. I guess, that's where the difference lies between propaganda and objective criticism. Nuff said! |
jmaine: Increased ranking means nothing . . .But decreased rating is good enough to mastvbate recklessly init . . . The kind of steez we entertain all in the name of being called a criticNa so we see am. It is the sort of argument we get from professional critics. Isn't it depressing? |
omenka: The western societies find themselves in the enviable positions they occupy in the commity of nations not because their citizens sing praises of their governments for doing what is required of them to do by law. They are where they are because they constantly criticize, albiet constructively, the deeds and misdeeds of their governments. Their insatiable craving and relentless demend for pace settin performance from their leaders kept their leaders on the grindstone 247 producing unbelievably remarkable results.Yet we must call a spade a spade. The country amass 27% as against 24% it achieved last time around. Slice or dice it anyhow you like, it is an improvement. Lest we forget, it was the same TI that once rated Nigeria the worst performer in the time past. Do we accept their rating when it suits our agenda of destruction criticism, and refuse it when it confutes it. With such duality, are we then better than the one we seek to 'correct' (that's if the intention is not sinister) No one said the government has done enough stamp out corruption. But the argument raised by most objective poster is that 'there is an improvement' at least in the level of transparency. Is it enough, certainly not as more can and should be done. But painting doom and gloom and claiming things are worse to the extent of bandying mischievous figures as total money stolen by the current government as done by the Punch Newspaper is as callous as it is fallacious. In the end those who bandied such fallacy in the name of criticizing the government create more problem than they intend to solve. Today, adept Nigerians recognise Sahara Reporters as purveyor of lies and propaganda. Won't it be sad if Punch and other normally reliable news media join in this ignoble practice. Again, criticism should be balance, and objectivity should prevail. And it is in that respect that we must first recognize 27 as an improvement over 24 in the TI ranking and give credit to whom it due rather than peddling entrenched prejudice. |
Quite interesting... At least we get to know those states in the habit of simply gathering to share federal allocation as against those who actually put in to good use. |
gidiMonsta: Hall of fame: #OccupyNigeria, Uncle Fash, Owelle Rochas, Comrade Adams. ![]() |
Perhaps he meant to say that Nigeria is not feasible in 2015! |
I think contrary to the hate campaign by the opposition media and their agents in cyberspace, the International World (Transparency International for example) recognize the fact that the first step in fighting corruption is via transparency (no pun intended). The present government deliberate policy of exposing the rot in the oil and other sectors is very remarkable. It gives the population the opportunity to see for themselves, the corrupt practices enshrined over time, and well covered up by past governments in Nigeria, with options and solutions for dealing with them - i.e. full subsidy removal, deregulation, reform, transformation, privatization, budget cuts and tightening. While the media may not appreciate the import of this (transparency) due to their partisan agenda, Transparency International, the world foremost corruption rating agency does, and rightly so. Kudos to the Government for this improvement, even if it is marginal. |
Ikengawo: lol your 'experiment' is funny and your point is a great one. PDP is making people guilty by association.Spot on my guy. It's all part of the plot of ploy - call a dog a bad name, then hang it. The end game of the exaggerated level of corruption and bad publicity is to pave the way for a military coup. Unfortunately, the North is not in the best position to plot a coup, the SW has no history of leading a coup plot, and the SE have learnt so much from history of rescuing Nigeria via that path. Fact is GEJ is doing a good job, as are a handful of PDP Governors. The hate campaign will certainly fail. |
I support the idea of 6 regions. As for Lagos and Abuja having regional status, I don't know the basis. I rather the Lagos like Abuja be declared federal territory and an Administrator/Minister be appointed to effectively manage it. |
paddy_lo: Ah Ndu_Chuks, the subversive resident Arewa clown, good to see u.Anyway, it good you brought it up again. The magnitude of looting in Lagos State/ACN cannot be swept under the cyber-carpet. We shall keep this for providence sake. |
kutchs: But just where did the minister say 6.2b will be used for publicity?I tire oo. |
sheymoni: how i wish we have this kind of development in oyo state.when are we going to have something to talk about in oyo state? the governor seems to be sleeping.apart from mokola fly over & the reconstruction of awolowo bridge,he hasn't done anything in terms of development. How can you wish this misery upon Oyo state? Is the state in a cave? |
Okija_juju: Nwanne, dont be angry o!! I have stopped.. I only updated the nominations list to reflect the true status of things.. Sorry.. As an Independent Observer, I was only doing my job.. This is strictly business!Noted. Carry on with whatever makes you happy. U know me now, no shaking! |
Akanbi_edu: Musiwa is nairaland's bug. heheNa wa o. How can you call Aare Musiwa of Satellite fame a 'bug' ![]() What world have we awoken to? Where are the justice campaigners and right crusaders - over to you! |

Abeg give it up my brother. Jarus said, back to business. Let's oblige. |
olawalebabs: I don't have Barth in mind, i only sum the general assement of peoples opinion on this thread.Ok. That's much better. Cos I was also doing similar assessment. Just that I used a real life example. |
Akanbi_edu: I just like callng you that.Lol. E be like say, you know no say one describes other with objects or things he experiences daily. It's either Demdem has a retardeen in his family, or he is the retardeen. I think the later is more apt. No be so? |
Please can we have this thread moved to ethic politic section: https://www.nairaland.com/1122516/igbos-powerhouse-nigeria |
Akanbi_edu: There is no need for that. Alhaji Retardeen.lmao ![]() |
Jarus: LMAO. Crazy girl, sorry manlol, aboki, I never called you Mai shai, I only imagine that you may be living like one, judging from the way you behave. Anyway, like I said, your redemption is not a foregone conclusion you still have hope. By the way, you know those you can 'threaten' with ban. Not folks like me. A And shouldn't you be calling for more nominations, rather than continue with this unnatural infatuation with 'girl-man'. I am as straight as they come just in case, another prey may suffice. |
Baby mama: I wonder if the air conditioned pedestrian bridges have been completedMe too. It sure should house some homeless cultists who use to be Amosun friends and partners. ![]() |
lagerwhenindoubt: As usual, never an answer but a twist in the question. FEC do not need to tell us their minutes, We just need to know which projects, which economic risks, which achievements and FYI. the USA does it, the UK does it, most EURO countries do it. It is called public information, .. be it Health, Education, Minority initiatives, TAX etc. everyone must know..You need someone to spoon-feed again after all I have done about? You lots claimed the guy is not working, I rolled out a list, and you are still asking for what exactly? Guy, google your friend. |
olawalebabs: and others nominating Barth Nnaji because he is a christain and igbo, not minding the shaddy deal that burn his handShady deal? The man resigned on his own accord base on priciple and integrity, something folks like Bakere could not in quest for power. Do you mind telling us more about the shady deal. Honestly, I did even think about it for a moment you could be referring to Barth in your tirade, where we have more devilish pretenders like Bakare parading about like men of God, Na wa for u oo. |
Jarus: Meanwhile, just by the way, you come across very feminine to me; I always image you as the Igbo version of Desolalol, nice slide tackling. You also remind of Mai Shia (the tea makers by the roadside), Each time I chance upon them by the roadside, I usually imagine you siting in some corner beside the gutter, struggling with stove, mixing milo and saccharin with frumpy face like the world forced the trade upon you shoulder, and everyone is your enemy except for few. I mostly shake my head and wonder whatever make you grumpy and sad. Pray is it seun or mukina2 that brough this upon you? You don't have to do what you don't enjoy doing. Life is too sweet to be lived in bondage. I only seek to add flavour and colour to your thread. Smile and enjoy yourself a little. |
