Great citation and endorsement for these tireless folks, and global thinker - Achebe and Okonjo Iweala. Hopefully, their effort to transform Nigeria will yield the necessary result. Nigeria must surely confront it's two greatest demon - Wasteful subsidy of Petrol Pump Price, and - The attempted genocide of Igbo via brutish Biafran War We must keep working at it, and must support them in their bid to transform Nigeria. |
kulikuli26: Honestly it beat my imagination hw folks come here praising fashola cos for me lagos state gets so much interms of revenue which doesn't match the devt on ground.the state govt enter concession agreement to build major roads and public utilities are even privatised, yet the state rank high interms of debts, den u ask ursef where is the money goin1000 likes. Lagos state is the biggest fraud yet in Nigeria. Only the unraveling of ACN will expose the rot! |
Nice one. Pray say, is that a Primary or Secondary school? And where is it located? More works need to be done on the finishing though. |
Why BBC HardTalk? What's wrong with his appearance on Nigerian TV Stations. Some folks and colonial mentality! |
I agree we should round up by first or second week of December. It's been busy even for me. lol. Anyway, before we round up, we need to recap a few things. First, I have tried to capture most of our inputs in the Nomination Rules. I want to be sure we are on the same page. Comments required. Secondly, the incoming Eze has suggested we define clearly his role. Those who have an idea should present it. For the avoidance of doubt, the purpose of the Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title-ship is to lead the line in unifying several Igbo posters and their ideologies where possible. Where this is not possible, to channel the various ideologies towards a common - Igbo cause. For clarification, Igbo cause include social, political, economic and spiritual development and advancement of Ala Igbo - within and outside the SE Zone. Specifically the title holders should lead the line in promotion of Ndi Igbo economic and political interest online, and offline. They are expected to promote Igbo language and culture, and clamp down, on divisive voices, using various subtle means available to them. The Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders are not elected to champion hatred and vile against other ethnic groups, but they must conduct their affairs without fear or favour, with as much readiness to get their hands 'dirty' in the defense of Igbo cause when the need arises. In my opinion, the above and those captured below should form part of their Code of Conduct. 1. The Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders are neither pro-Nigeria nor Pro-Biafran, they are expected to be neutral on this issue, and only offer advisory suggestions. 2. The various Nigerian ethnic group has their plethora of ills and malaise, the Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders should not mindlessly or tastelessly remind us (Igbo) of ours, at least not publicly unless to proffer/suggest solutions to them. 3. The Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders are primarily Igbos before any other sub-group affiliations, they are expected to reflect this in their dealings with other Igbo groups (sub-groups, by never taking sides in some of the pockets of issues I would term 'chinosism' 4. The Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders should periodically appoint council members and hold period meetings to discuss pertinent national issues, with the aim of taking an informed position 5. The Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland title holders should maintain a visible 'hotline' (an email account) which can easily be used to reach them 6. The Eze Ndi Igbo must always pursue the Igbo cause, in the short, medium, and long term. |
Paul John: The OP's suggestion wasn't even Fashola for president but as running mate of Duke. The deep rooted hatred in you won't let you realize you're far behind civilization. Be civil by getting over tribalism.Fashola, the flower planter cu.m Okada chaser? He can rule Odua Republic perhaps. Bottom line, any SW backdoor to the presidency at this time will be blocked. It's either SE's turn or we continue with GEJ until 2019. |

9ja_I_hail: @POINTB PLEASE CHECK YOUR MAIL.Will do. Thanks |
CrazyMan: Was about to say the same...I just saw it on my section today...its already about 9 pages...wao...Thanks man for the kind words. @all, Let's get the process going again... |
Sincere 9gerian: No matter how good or perfect a system is, those whose mind have been programmed to find only faults will ALWAYS see faults. Some persons mind have been programmed to find only faults in ALL that Mr president does. Such persons are irredeemble. The truth is that whether these persons like it or not, Jonathan is the president today and will remain so till 2015. If he decides to seek re-election, he'll win hands down. Irrespective of what HATERS think, irrespective of what FAULT-FINDERS think, Jonathan is performing and will continue to perform. ACN and CPC supporters can continue to HATE and CONVULSE online. My guy don't mind these ACN thugs, and ethnic bigots, whose stock in trade is to stoke up embers of hatred against those working assiduously to clean up the Augean stable that Nigeria is, using persistent misinformation and character assassination. Is there anybody in Nigeria who doesn't know that the Aviation Sector is undergoing massive rehabilitation as we speak? Is it even possible to do this without a few inconvenience, and lapses here and there? Is it also not laughable that the biggest evidence of corruption against a hard working minister of aviation happens to be some beer parlour gossip peddled by an airline which failed to pay it's bills? Same money that is necessary to effectively run the sector in question. Rather than pay up, the airline embark on campaign of calumny and character assassination, same as some of these loud mouthed hypocritical posters here. For the avoidance of doubt here is the ministers responses to the beer palour newsL Aviation minister threatens to sue Arik Air http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/09/aviation-minister-threatens-to-sue-arik-air/ Shame to bad people |
Lol, Another veil attempt to attack the Aviation Minister, simply because she is Igbo. This irredeemable ethnic bigot will never fail to live up to their billing. How can they conveniently miss this: On NCAA, the committee said, “One observation that further reinforced allegations of laxity, compromises and corruption is the fact that with the public hearing announced, (an airline) that was operating immediately ceased operation and send its aircraft overseas for maintenance.Let me guess, because the culprit in question happens not to be Igbo, Jimoh Ibrahim, deserves no hate filled bitter rapprochement by the children of anger, and resident hypocrites? |
Kc3000: [b]Onlytruth, I don't care what the haters say, you're that dude! Your leadership in this past year has been nothing short of inspirational. I love Ndigbo with all my being, and I doff my hat to you for providing the much needed leadership to Ndigbo on this forum. Ndigbo took a leap of faith when we chose you as our mouthpiece on this forum, and my brother, you have not disappointed me. Whenever Ndigbo needed to be heard, you expressed our collective opinion as eloquently and emphatically as you have always done. Indeed, Odumchi has his work cut out for him, in trying to sustain the pace that you have set. I'm hopeful that he would deliver.1000 likes! |
On the contrary, if Nigeria cannot return back Regionalism then we need at least one more state. Politics at the National Assembly is a game of number, the North has always used their numbers to block important legislation, including ones such as PIB, and other that are beneficial to other region. New state in the SE, may not level the playing ground completely, but it will certainly aid. We should even be asking for equal states in all the Zone and of course equal representation at the NA. Let's not by myopic in our approach to this critical issue. |
9ja_I_hail: Welcome back PointB)Thankz |
NOMINATION RULES 1 - An individual can nominate two forumers as Eze if: a - Profiling of such forumer indicates s/he is Igbo b - Such forumer has been a registered poster at least three months prior to the election (an endorsement by 10 eligible forumers shall however suffice for a waiver) c -Such forumer does not have pattern of denigrating our institution (Eze) or our people (Igbo) [2] 2 - An individual can be nominated for the role of Eze/Eze Nwayi if s/he satisfy the conditions above and: - Has a fairly good history of defending Igbo cause online 3 - CONDITIONS FOR DISQUALIFICATION - An individual will be DISQUALIFY from standing for elective position if a - He breaches any section of the Article 1 of the Nomination Rule OR b - Such individual has an opposition to his candidacy totaling not less than 1/3 of his/her total nominations. c. - Nominees who do not accept their nominations, SHALL be disqualified. 4 -DISQUALIFIED CANDIDATES CAN: - a - Appeal to Election Tribunal b. - Appeal to the Eze and his council as final arbiter 5 - OTHERS - - Nominations done with multiple user id, shall not count - Two nominees to amass the highest nomination shall be polled alongside the incumbent Eze, subject to the outcome of any or all petition against their candidacy. Umu Igbo, If this does not represent our opinion, kindly let's point out where the changes should be. |
Now let's take it step by step: First question: Who qualifies to nominate our Eze? Several commentator have argued for profiling (ostensibly) to determine who is Igbo. So, the first answer is that Igbos alone qualify to nominate our Ezes. Very good. However, some posters also argued that Igbos who peddle certain views against our institutions (Eze) and our people (Igbos) should not be allowed to stand. An euphemism for disqualified. However, some of the proponent of this also asked that offenders prior to this process, should be 'forgiven' while future offenders should be given a ban. A proposition that has so far met no opposition. Good too. Some however want clarification to what kind of views against the institution or our people warrant such measure as disqualification. A few answers include - a pattern of direct insult on the Eze elect or incumbent, a pattern of disparaging words or comments on those (Igbos) one aspires to lead. Indeed, it does make a lot of sense that those who abuse the institution or the people, have no moral justification to nominate a leader for the institution, let alone aspire to lead them. However, since the volume of analysis to be done on each individual is huge, and resources (of course always) limited, some smart fellows suggested the 1/3 rule . A rule that suggested that if there are objections to your candidacy/nomination up to 1/3 of your total nomination, you stand disqualified. Interesting, right? So how do all these suggestion fits in? |
I will try very hard not to drag us back, but sometimes to move forward, we need to look back. So, here is the initial proposal for discussion of Electoral Reform. - PART 1 - Electoral Reform – Moderator - Incoming Eze Nwayi, PointBHopefully, we can use it to help move the process forward, quicker. |
Look's like I'm back. Let's see how we can give our discussion on constitution a little more push. |
maclatunji: Obviously, "Buhari must be made to look bad at all cost" is the motto for some of you. What "strategic gain" was there for Buhari to get in 2000 by destabilising Oyo state at that point? You are worse than the writer, at least he has is own parochial objective, what is your own?Obviously you must support your mentor at all cost! What does a man who assembly lorry loads of trailer to intimidate a state governor care about 'strategic gain' in the deep sense of the phrase? His mission was simply, stampede Governor Lam into making careless statement and then capitalise on that. Have you bothered to ask yourself why Buhari was the one available for this kind of mission? Or why in another development he was invited by the dreaded sect Boko Haram as a mediator? Keep defending this mindless and stu.pidily myopic stunt of your god Buhari, perhaps you would have done worst if you were to trade place! |
maclatunji: You would have preferred Buhari to leave them on the streets in different areas of Oyo to cause mayhem because they felt aggrieved? Remember, this "battalion" weren't with Lam Adesina, so they didn't know what transpired. It was up to Buhari to pacify the "rampaging battalion". Whatever Buhari said to them on that day in 2000 has pacified them till today, you should give him credit considering the fact that the writer sort to portary him as leading an army meant to destroy Oyo state on that day. Maybe, the Nigerian Military, Police, Nigerdelta militants and Boko Haram need to receive leadership from Buhari, perhaps they too will stop shooting and killing with reckless abandon when it suits them.$ So since when did herdsmen start arriving in lorries to occupy government secretariat, only for a 'statesman' to arrive minutes later to calm the situation. I don't know how you put your medular obloganta to use. But mine tells me Buhari is very much complicit in the occupations of the Oyo State Government Secretariat. And it is very obvious that the intention was to intimidate the Government and the good people of Oyo. Buhari did not save the day contrary to your logic, Lam Adeshina did with his calm demeanor and control. Have you ever stopped to wonder what would have happened had the Governor decided to flex his muscle as the CSO of the state? Or if his explanation did not sway the blood thirsty Buhari and his battalion of 'aggrieved' herdsmen. Point of the story is Buhari went for a fight, Lam Adeshina saved the day. And every unbiased observer will see it that way. Quit defending inanity! |
These greedy and clueless cows are always whining about oil money! When will the oil producers ever enjoy the benefit of their resources? |
So General Buhari went for a 'discussion' on 68 murdered Fulani herdsmen. First an advance battalion of lorry loads of Brothers from the North occupied the (enemy's) secretariat (territory), creating palpable fear and panic. Later, another long convoy headed by the General made an entrance to the scene. Interesting how some folks didn't see anything sinister in this modus operandi. Let me ask, what if he wasn't satisfied with the outcome of the 'discussion'? |
Ufeolorun: I don't know what you mean by "masters and slaves" but its senseless and unfair for carbon on the seabed of the country to be cornered by few using dubious claims. The same sea bed of a country illegally formed and illegally sustained. Any talk of abrogating the dichotomy should also answer the question of basis of sovereignty of the country. The dichotomy exists because the country itself is built on several unfair practices. We can't pick and choose which to correct! Fair must be fair!! |
Ufeolorun: Use your majority+SW reps, annul the offshore rule, give some exception base on distance .Hydrocarbon on the high sea should belong to all Nigerians.Lol. Northern majority + SW = More Niger Delta oil money for looting. Rather than encourage IGR and emphasis on utilising every region unique advantage, you are advocating further dependency on limited oil resources. Anyway I expect nothing less from masters and slaves. |
Negro_Ntns: PointB,this is incorrect. people migrate to places because of 'development.' provide same in their domain and they will stay. asking for special status for lagos is a lame excuse for more money when fashola could simply prevent tinubu from milking lagos for himself. other zones need to be developed. |
Thank you Ogugua for the update/minutes. It will help most people to know what has been discussed so far and perhaps aid their contributions. I will resume this thread fully next week and together we shall all move this process forward. A lot of very interesting opinions have be given, and I believe all are done with the best interest of Igbos at the back of our minds. The challenge here is reaching a conclusion that will best unify us, and protect the institution we try to build. A balance will have to be reached eventually. We shall get there with Chukwu's guidance! |
canadianprince: People like you are the one responsible for the persistency in the backwardness of the country Nigeria. This is a commendable attempt by your NLC in confronting the Fed. govt against unnecessary price hike in fuel, aimed at the collective interest of the nationales and you're here uttering trashes. Rise and motivate Nigerians to fight for their right. Your govt should erode corruption from its political dispensation rather than, instigating the afflictions inflicted on the citizens by poverty. My guy, it's actually people like you who are responsible for retar.ded growth of this country! People like me are trying to salvage it. What made you think that new sets of fuel subsidy thieves will not emerge if the current ones are jailed or even shot? Has the death of an armed robber stopped more armed robbers joining the fatal trade? Has capital punishment prevented 'capital' crimes? Why face the symptom instead of the ailment? Do you know how many fuel protest I have participated in my lifetime? How many more must I participate in, and when will it stop? To do same thing over and over again and expect a different result in the beginning of insanity. The answer lies just there in the open - remove the subsidy and the problem (fuel subsidy scam) disappear! Deregulate the downstream sector or keep protesting every year for 20 Naira price reduction! |
The threat to pull down Jonny Boy government with fuel price increase protest is very lame - indeed a joke There is no history of such in Nigeria, and there will never be until Nigeria is one, and that will not happen, as shown January for sake of fuel pump price increase. If NLC calls for their jamboree, GEJ will flood the streets and venue with soldiers and armoured tanks, a tried and tested template. Prior to that, I would have called and warned my friends and relatives not to join the protests, just to hear their reassuring, 'Join for what, I have better things to do with my time'? NLC welcome to your 20 Naira protest, you will walk alone! Deregulation MUST happen!! |
I trust David Mark to agree. Lol. He is an astute politrickcian. Is Lagos not already of 'special status'? I mean which other state is controlled by the past governor, to the extent that a huge percentage of Tax revenue finds its way to his pocket? Which other state has been allowed to corner a huge chunk of Federal road to run private transport company - Babatunde Raji Transport (BRT)? Which state shoots at Okada riders, hastening their extinction so that they can promote their Private Taxis company? @Fashoal, over populated Lagos already has special status. What Nigeria need now is to designated investment and resources to other Zones - SE, SS. Those two oil producing Zones should receive massive government investment. They are the ones that deserve any 'new' special status, not Lagos. Lagos is not the only state in Nigeria. |
Was there no Awalowo's birthday last and this year? Silly bigot! |
@Op, Sure why not. Set yourself ablaze in front on the national assembly. Perhaps that would help them pass the PIB and start taking regionalism seriously. You wouldn't die for nothing! |
By the way are Okada riders not part of the labour unions? What have these unions done to address the daily harassment and death they face in the hands of Lagos State security agents? Does NLC/TUC exist only to fight deregulation of downstream sector? |
