First, let me comment on Eze OnlyTruth's submission about the attitude of some council members, and his subsequent call upon me to resign and pick up the Ezeship nomination gauntlet. Indeed, there were one, two, or more council members who for various reason did not live up to their billing. Whether it is an act of dissent, genuine lack of time, loss of interest, or feeling of redundancy, I wouldn't know. But what I do know is that leadership is a great responsibility and it is always easier if you have people that you can rely on, in thick and thin - agreement or disagreement. People you can always count on to be there when you need them, even though they might not agree with you always. Exception can be made for those who complained of tight schedules, out of coverage - these ones clearly made impact in the council while they were around, and the fact that you hardly see their comments on Nairaland suggests too they may have a point in their excuses. But for those who went AWOL, I believe they can at least offer Umu Igbo explanation for their action. I won't dwell further on this for now. Secondly, the call by Eze Onlytruth that I resign and contest for Ezeship is indeed borne out of genuine concern for continuity, and perhaps what is good for Umu Igbo. I quite understand the intent and purpose, and I also feel humbled by other glowing tributes the Eze made on my person. Even though I feel there are some element of hyperbole in it. I thank him nonetheless. But I am afraid, my responsibility at this point in time in ensuring we bequeath a lasting electoral guideline, which weeds out charlatans and ensures that only fit and proper Igbos gets close to the Ezeship, is one I take seriously. I do not arrogate upon myself the only one fit to do justice to that role, but I believe I should see this process through at this stage. If however, we fail to get top nominees to accept their nominations. I shall extend the nomination period, and stand down from the position of Electoral Commissioner, and pick up the gauntlet. That is the very least I can promise. I am very hesitant of changing the rule in the middle of the game. In anycase, anyone interested in taking up the electoral commissioner job in that circumstance, or next year should indicate his/her interest so that the Council can make a quick decision. Generally, I believe only those who show passionate interest in anything Igbo should be considered in both the Electoral members position and the Ezeship. Half-heartedness will take us no where. Here I stand! PointB Electoral Commissioner. |
Ade0001: @PointB, i think Fash is not only preaching attitudinal changes,I am concerned that he is sounding rather too academical and evasive. Let me put it this way: Does Fashola support creation of new states or regionalism? |
X-factoria:What indication do you have from the article that Fashola supports regionalism as you put it? Fashola doesn't appear to suppport anything other than his simplistic call for attitudinal changes. Somehow I think Fashola is being hypocritical here. How many laws has he enacted in Lagos state this year alone - many targeting Okadas riders, drivers, agberoes and others. Why did he preach the gospel of attitudinal changes to them. Recently, Fashola muted the idea of enacting a law that forces Lagos residents to change their 'foreign' car plate number to that of Lagos. My point again is, are those laws really needed? Why not suggest change in behavior in a subtle way as he is suggesting now? If he sincere believe amendment of laws, or new laws are need to fix his state, why can't same apply at the national level. There is something very wrong with Fashola's posture. Simple. |
^- Nice one. ![]() |
Theben: I think Fashola's opinion on the constitution amendment is being misconstrued. He feels the solution to Nigerian problem isn't the constitution, we've not followed the constitution on ground yet we're clamouring for a change. What is the need of amending the constution that won't be followed? It is a case of misplaced priority.Point in that the constitution does not guarantee equity and fairness. It does not encourage healthy competition, on the contrary it encourages indolence and over reliance on the center. Changing those aspect of the constitution is in overall interest of the country - that is what Fashola is suppose to aim for - not his needless intellectualism! |
I like the Uduaghan in Keke picture. Fits him like a second skin. Pray, has he done such job before. I mean does he have a humble beginning like Rochas who we were told hustled in Jos, or our President who went to school without shoes. ![]() |
Johndoe100: While Fshola has a point. The main thrust of his continued doubts about restructuring Nigeria arise from the adverse effects this will have on the economy of his state.I disagree. Fashola is being myopic here. His state Lagos has more to benefit from true fiscal federalism, even if the Zones become the federating units. |
I sensed that the serious challenge or 'betrayal' of regionalism with it's attendant benefit of fiscal federalism, potential regional police, regional integration, and healthy competition will come from the ACN/SW. That Fashola will be the poster boy of this betrayal is indeed shameful. But all hope is not lost. ACN/SW should decide what they want; chasing with the hound and running with the hare is not exactly the way to build lasting trust, and harmony. One would have thought that Fashola be circumspect over this, and look out for the interest of the unborn Lagosians/Nigerian who want to live in atmosphere of peace, and goodwill in their country. In any case, if regionalism can not be achieved because of the discordant voice from the South (West), then SE and SS should insist on having 7 states each as we have in the NW. They should also demand parity representation with the NE/NW the National Assembly. Furthermore, revenue allocation should be based on contribution, not on population. Fashola fall my hand seriously. |
Jarus: October. Isn't it too early? Well, Seun and Mukina will decide to home-page you when they come hereNot exactly. The Eze Council decided they wanted early election for sundry reasons. So here we are. |
Nominations update Below is the updated nomination list. I shall be back later in the day to comment of Eze Onlytruth's submission. Name Nominations Odumchi - 9 Eziachi - 8 One_Naira - 4 Andre Uweh - 3 Dede1 - 3 ezeagu - 2 Agaba123 - 1 Elueme - 1 ? Nchara - 1 Obiagu1 - 1 Sam Ikenna - 1 Bashr - 1 Chyz - 1 EzeUche - 1 Ejine - 1 |
Onlytruth: My brother PointB you have a way with words!Lol. That is when I am not being PointBlank ![]() |
^^^^ Thank you my brother. I hope this put the matter to rest. @Spyder880, Afam is a member of the election tribunal, he is 'insulated' from nomination. Kindly pick a different person as your second nomination. Other nominations are noted. |
@Chosen, Your nomination is noted, and will reflect in the next update. Thanks for participating. |
Mrs.Chima:My dear Mrs. Chima, as a matter of fact you have the right to nominate any 2 Igbo person. And I agree with you that an Igbo is an Igbo. But because by their fruit ye shall know them, we have set standard for Igbo with certain 'fruits.' Simply put, the rules are set to enable us identify 'fit and proper' person by general consensus of Igbo forumers on Nairaland to lead us. We want a figure that unifies not the one that creates disunity, or disaffection. We will scrutinize every character, especially the ones that generate controversy when nominated. |
berem: how can some of them nominated accept when the thread has refused to be migrated to the front page? Not everyone visits the political section except topics are moved to the FP.I think its high time you guys did something about it.Good point. Most of the nominees so far are veterans of the politics section - they cut their teeth here. With few exception, here is their default playground when the visit nairaland. Nevertheless, I have asked (jsut) the Mod to push the thread to the FP. I believe they will oblige soon enough. Hope that addresses your concern. |
Mod pls can you help us place this on the FrontPage. https://www.nairaland.com/1075822/eze-ndi-igbo-online-election |
Let me also remind us that nomination of candidate should be done by Igbo forumers of those who qualifies under Section B, rule 1 and 2. 1. Politics section Mods, and Seun are should be allowed to nominate provided such nominees do not contradict the provisions of Section A.To this end, there is need for us to vigilantly screen the nominators to ascertain their conformity with the rule. Nominations which does not satisfy the rule can be nullified if identified, or based on protest. |
Let me also remind those nominated of the need to indicate their acceptance. Especially those who were not polled in the previous year and who are not frequent in the forum. |
Nomination update: Name Nominations Odumchi - 8 Eziachi - 5 One_Naira - 4 Andre Uweh - 3 ezeagu - 2 Dede1 - 2 Agaba123 - 1 Elueme - 1 ? Nchara - 1 Obiagu1 - 1 Sam Ikenna - 1 Bashr - 1 Chyz - 1 EzeUche - 1 Permit me to invoke Section B, rule 3 of the Nomination Guideline which states that: Forumers whose candidacy cause dissaffection, disunity, or massive outcry by the generality of Igbos may be advise to step aside or be disqualified. On that note, both Okija juju and Sexkillz are placed under scrutiny. Final decision will be made known in due course. Let's keep nominations coming... |
^^^ Pls let's focus on the nomination on the basis of the rules. This thread is not for us to exchange harsh words. Thanks. |
Odenigbo Aroli and Lord Naya should pls calm down. Let's get the process done without resort to testosterone and adrenaline rush. Thank you. As for the controversial Okija_juju and Sexkilz, decision will be made soon. But in the meantime, let's keep the nomination coming. |
@Mrs.Chima, I didn't know that Sexkilz is Igbo and that you were nominating him. When I saw his name and the 1000 kisses you gave him, I thought romance has come to politics. Lol. I will add his name in the next update. You can still nominate a second person in addition, as you are entitled to two nominations. @Crazyman, I am glad the electoral team have cleared every doubt you have. Thanks for the NYSC advert offer. @Charles.Nerd, Thank for your observation. The electoral team if I may speak for them are of the opinion that being a Mod does not hinder from serving as Eze. Besides the current rule does not exclude Igbo Mods from contesting, and I don't think it best at this time to change the rule in the middle of the game. Please let's keep the nominations coming in. We need the best Igbomen where ever they are to answer this noble call. To put our best foot forward is the essence the nominations process. This is where we have control, what happens at the poll, we cannot control! |
Find below the updated Nomination list. Name Nominations Odumchi - 6 Eziachi - 3 Andre Uweh - 2 ezeagu - 2 Agaba123 - 1 Elueme - 1 ? Nchara - 1 Obiagu1 - 1 Okija juju - 1 ** One_Naira 1 Sam Ikenna - 1 Please keep them coming... |
Thank you my 9ja_I_hail and Ujchief for keeping the thread alive. Good work. |
Noted Manny. Thanks. |
Ejiné: Please noooooooo! No Okija Juju biko!I will take this as second protest against his candidacy. |
Igbo Kwenu!! Kwezue nu!! It's time to answer our father's name. Let's partake in the election of our Eze. Let's report here: https://www.nairaland.com/1075822/eze-ndi-igbo-online-electio Ndewo nu. |
Charles.nerd:Yes you did. Unfortunately Afam's nomination of Andrew Uweh did not count. Those directly involved in the process might have to sacrifice their right to nominate to avoid conflict of interest. |
The top 2 nominee will be polled against OnlyTruth in a general election. Please let's not forget that part of the rules indicates that the nominee must at the very least accept their nominations. It implies that nominees who do not accept their nomination at prior to polling may be disqualified. We don't need absentee Eze, the stakes are very high. |
Let's keep the nominations rolling in. At this point, the nomination list is taking shape. We have the following nominations Odumchi 3 Sam Ikenna 1 ezeagu 1 Obiagu1 1 Elueme 1 ? Agaba123 1 Nchara 1 Eziachi 1 Okija juju 1 * Andre Uweh 1 Key * Protest recorded. ? Igboness questioned |
@Those nominating PointB, thanks for the confidence, but I am already the electoral commissioner, hence not eligible. OnlyTruth is does not also need nomination, he is already pre-qualified by the virtue of incumbency. @Odunnu, The Lolo idea sounds very romantic. We could try it sometime as soon as we are able to work out the modality, roles and responsibility. Perhaps, during the inauguration in culture section the elected may opt to choose a Lolo from the list of eligibles. But for now let's focus on nominating two people each for Eze. |
9ja_I_hail: Well i wanted to ask the question if a member of Tribunal is permitted to nominate, anyway thanks my Honorable PointB for clearing my doubt. My brother, your apology is accepted. I think the Election Tribunal members should not nominate to avoid conflict of interest. |
