ndu_chucks: I thought we were discussing the candidacy of Okija and not Musiwa or are you accusing Okija of having multiple IDs which he plans to use to rig the election?. If enough people have nominated Okija, then put his name up for a vote along with the remaining candidates. Anything less will render your process severely flawed.Ok, if you don't understand that a controversial candidate can use his various monikers to boost his nomination if there are no impediment, then let me make it abundantly clear, that it is possible. Whether that is the case here, I have no means of knowing. As per whether enough 'people' have nominated Okija_juju to warrant his polling, you may have to go through the thread one more time. I suggest slowly. |
ndu_chucks: There can only be one "Most controversial". That alone is not enough to thwart the democratic process. If the opposition to his candidacy is as vehement as you've stated, then the results of the voting process will vindicate you.Voting process or nomination process? My guy, I am sure you understand how things work here. Let me ask you, if Musiwa and PointB were to be polled in Eze Ndi Igbo Nairaland for the whole Nairaland to vote, who do you think will win? Clearly most, non Igbo in Nairaland will vote Musiwa if only to spite the process. Like I have said several times, the rule is made to ensure that those who truly represent Igbo made it past the nomination stage. And if we don't pay attention to the protest, those with dormant multiple monikers can reactivate and use them to circumvent the filtering clause. I.e Muyiwa can use his various monikers to nominate Musiwa1 multiple times because, the organiser are not paying mind to the protest against Musiwa1 by Watchman and StopDem! The Nomination Guideline is the only way we can guard against imposition of candidate on Igbos by Nairalanders. Please bear with us. |
Indeed, this thread is growing long but I don't think the digression is needless. Personally, I think it worth paying a little attention to the issue of Okija_juju, so that other Igbos can use it as a reference point on how not to seek popularity among other ethnic group. It is an open secret that some of us, seek attention and acceptance by bringing down our own. They reckon, that by so doing, people from the other side of the divide will see them as rational or moderate. Such practice is wrong, very wrong. Rather than encourage division and in fighting by unwarranted loud 'correction', silence can be golden especially when the skill of subtlety is lacking. This is where many of us, are lacking. And this is where the seed of division, dissent and discord are sown. This is where we must pause and think! |
ndu_chucks: PointB, you have been doing a good job so far and I'd recommend that you do not allow small minds to spoil things for you. Okija was nominated by some and his candidacy opposed by others, the right and sensible thing to do is to present him as a candidate, if he has enough people nominating him, and let the people decide with their votes. Anything less will render this exercise useless. shi kenaCan you point any other person whose candidacy was vehemently opposed as Okija's? If you can't, what does that say about him? In anycase, this exercise has achieved a lot whether it throw up another Eze or not. At least those who claim the represent Igbo in here knows that certain things are expected of them. That you do not create discord among brethren and sisters and expect an applause from us, is the least we can take away from this exercise. And that to me, is a lot. The rest is symbolic! |
Dede1: I have stood up in person before Ojukwu at Clairborne Center, HU, among serious shouts to shut up, and passionately lamented my displeasure towards certain areas where Ojukwu committed unpardonable blunder in the annals of military history during the civil war. I read the unwarranted diatribes Mazi Okija_juju leveled on character of Ojukwu. It actually left a bad taste in my mouth. However, I must say that Okija_juju is one of the foremost defenders of Igbo agenda on NL.The vehemence with which Okija_juju attacked Ojukwu and by extension those mourning him and the tenacity which which he pours diatribe on people of Imo state makes me seriously question his Igboness. I have on some occasion suspected he is same as ahj_harem. In otherword, I doubt if he is Igbo. However, as far as this election is concerned, my suggestion that he seeks peace with those who opposed his candidacy and an endorsement of the Eze was in order to ensure that some of the clauses especially those bordering on unity and harmony does not count against him. But perhaps he was too haughty or to smart for his own good to recognise my intention. In disqualifying him, I only interpreted the rules. I also suggested he seeks redress at the tribunal who may see things differently, but he declined. In anycase, it is up to the Election Tribunal to take the decision to uphold or upturn the disqualification. I personally to think it is unfair to suggest that I am responsible for his travails. If the Tribunal feels that he has shown enough remorse to be welcome back to the fold, so be it. |
lateef4me: How come ifyalways is sensible than onlytruth ? How can a mortal man say someone has committed an unforgivable sins ? Haba......Ojukwu is not a god and can never be a god ...Lol. Ojukwu might be a god, but not God. And no one has elevated Ojukwu to such status. But if you truly follow this thread, you would have heard Okija_juju himself confirmed the insensitive things he said/did. In anycase, nomination is closed, and even if Okija disqualification is overturn by the Tribunal he still did not muster enough nomination to stand for polling. So let's quit crying over spilt milk already! |
ifyalways: I just don't get it. Must all Igbos see Ojukwu as a hero?infact, on whose authority would anyone declare okija's sins "unforgivable"Ify pls tone down your voice. No one is forcing anyone to be part of this process. The purpose of the Eze is to encourage unity among Igbos. If getting majority to think in similar direction is the way to do it so be it. If your assumption is that majority of Igbo here agree that denigrating other Igbo sub groups/state and our 'heroes' is wrong, then you are correct. The Nomination Guideline ensures that a few who recklessly use their privilege to create disunity among us are not rewarded, until the majority begin to act like them or they begin to act like the majority. It's as simply as that. Okija_juju had several opportunities (and months) to redeem himself, but rather he continued to cause disaffection between SE states. Are his action worth rewarding, we think not. This guideline seeks to identify and reward Igbos generally accepted by Igbos, not Igbos generally accepted by Nairalanders. So for one to even begin to take his chances with Nairalanders in the poll, he must first pass the litmus test at home, he must first identify with us - his brethren. He must make peace at home. That is where Okija_juju has failed. But he still may yet redeem himself, perhaps in the next election if only he would stop causing trouble among sisters states, and if Igbos stop protesting against his candidacy! We cannot afford to have divisive figures representing us, that defeats the whole process. |
ilugunboy: The same way you lot follow Ojuku blindly some 42 yrs ago or thereabout is still the same way you want to be blindly led by one PointBMy guy, it appears you are in love with this thread and process. Why don't you start one for your folks. Perhaps our Eze would like to have a word with your Oba! Cheers. |
@berem your objection is noted. I enjoin the nominees to 'complete' their nomination by accepting to serve Igbo. I also urge them to tell us what to expect from them. Umu Igbo, let's not give ammunition to those who will like to drag this process in the gutter. |
Plausible |

ikekings: Eheeee now... Her husband is an igbo man... That's what she said... So does that make her an igbo woman?Well if that is the case, she can nominate, but cannot be nominated. Will take her name off the Eze Nwayi list. |
ikekings: Mrs.chima is not an igbo woman now...Didn't know. I am sure the Eletion Tribunal will advise on that. |

berem: so when is the election starting proper? And what are you gonna do about Okija Juju's case?Election should start on Tuesday. Manifestos, campaigns, and Petitions issues should be sorted during the weekend and monday. Okija_juju is a powerful juju man, his fate is in his own hands. |
ifyalways: Sexkillz, can we let this go. Please. If we had struck off his name, Mrs. Chima and co would have been up in arms shouting discrimination and all that. Nomination should end in an hour or two. |
Pls let's keep the nominations coming. There is still some time left. |
dayokanu: Jarus abeg anything you can do to convince Seun and MukinaHow does moving the thread to FP or not aid Awolowo turbulent sleep, with the blood of over 2 million Biafrans on his head. Na wa oo. Anyway, it's seun's decision to move it to FP or not. We can't do more than request. |
sexkillz: [color=#000030]Thank you sir. I am very sorry it came late. You are welcome. No problem. |
sexkillz: [color=#000030]I have no interest in what is of no benefit whatsoever to my life on Nairaland, and i request that my name be removed from that list. . . Thank you.My brother. Your objection has been noted. Thanks a bunch. |
berem: I have invited those on Romance section to come here and nominate their candidates.maybe they will start showing up later. Thanks my dear. @Chukwudi Noted. |
dayokanu: Instead of moaning about homepage, Why dont someone copy the link and post it on the complaint thread for the mod to homepage it.You mean like, spam the Complaint thread? |
9ja_I_hail: Why not title it Eze Nwayi? Anyway let the ladies come up with their opinion then we can observe it and know which is better.I like the Eze Nwayi title. Sounds cool. Well, I like to hear from them too. ![]() |
9ja_I_hail: Was about to call your attention to mistake you in Ogugua 1 nomination but thank God you have corrected it.Keep the nomination coming remember your vote counts and your vote is your right.Thank you my brother, I am still looking forward to the title those able women will go by. I think 'Lolo' is too restrictive. Perhaps, the ladies will give us a very befitting title to use. |
berem: so when is the thread gonna reach the front page? This seems the 3rd day and the mods are reluctant.other igbo NLanders don't have any idea about this election. What's the delay all about? My dear, I have requested for frontpage coverage, it seems the Admin/Super Mods have other ideas. As it were, we have fairly good coverage, frontpage or not. Thanks to 9ja_I_hail and others who advertised in far flung sections. |
berem: @point B,Ogugua has 2 votes already.I and tchidi nominated her for Ugoeze.Ok. I will correct that at the next update. Thanks for helping keep the tally. edit Never mind. I have corrected it. |
Nomination update. Name Nominations Odumchi - 10 Eziachi - 10 Dede1 - 8 One_Naira - 5 Andre Uweh - 4 ezeagu - 2 Obiagu1 - 2 EzeUche - 2 Ejine - 2 Agaba123 - 1 Elueme - 1 ? Nchara - 1 Sam Ikenna - 1 Bashr - 1 Chyz - 1 Malawian 1 Liberate 1 Sexkillz - 1 Okija juju - 5 ***** *** Female Nominees Mrs. Chima - 1 Ifyalways 2 Odunnu 1 Ogugua 2 Above is the updated nomination list. Furthermore Okija_juju has been accused of contravening several section of the Nomination Guidelines. His tears, which are very much akin to crocodile's, does not in anyway ease the weight of the allegation against him nor allay the fear of rancor and discord his candidacy/Ezeship might potentially result. Okija_juju hesitation/refusal to make peace (in form of endorsement) with the incumbent Eze, also did not help his cause. "It is better for one man to suffer, than for the whole race to perish." - Bible. To this end, Okija_juju is therefore disqualified from continuing the nomination race. He is free to appeal to the Electoral Tribunal should he feel undone by the decision to disqualify him. Nomination is still in progress. Nominees are also urged to start accepting/rejecting their nominations. |
@9ja_I_hail, I agree the Electoral Team should quickly look at it come up with a proposal. In the meantime we should expand the nomination to 3 per person, where the third nominee is female. Like I said earlier, if the idea is unworkable we can discard it. Please let's keep nomination coming. |
I am also seriously considering the position of 'Lolo' in this election. I would like to see them rather as female Council members. Having seen the exploits of Dora, Ezekwesili, NOI, I believe that our women are more than capable of holding their own. Moreover, Igboland is a place where female empowerment is taken seriously, I believe our Nairaland should reflect this. I will therefore be willing to add two or more women to the list to give us this balance representation. The title they will go by, is however open for deliberation. But how to deploy them would be the responsibility of the incoming Eze. So lets add a female each to our nomination while we deliberate on the appropriate title and responsibility to assign them. It will however cost us nothing to drop the idea if it is unworkable. |
Since we aim to build unity not to continue in the atmosphere of rife, I would like to ask Okija_juju to make peace with those who strongly oppose his candidacy and obtain endorsement from the incumbent Eze. |
Let me say a few words about the guidelines with the hope that Igbos understand the thinking behind them. I am using my mobile phone, my responses will be limited. Some of us have observed that the rule are meant to disqualify some people. I am afraid they are correct. Electoral rules in every nation or organisation aim to disqualify a lot of people while ensuring that the very qualified stands. On the contrary our rule seek to do the opposite. it has been made clear that Igbo on Nairaland seeks unity - that is at the heart of Ezeship. This Ezeship will not pay for our browsing time. Nor will it offer paid employment, build schools and other infrastructure for Igbos on Nairaland. It is a symbolic position, which main objective to promote Igbo unity and values. To this end, this Eze responsibility is to gradually align the minority opinions towards the majority, not the other way round. Let me give you a typical example, majority Igbo sees Achebe, Ojukwu as a heroes, the minority sees them differently. Should the minority who sees them differently be allowed to lord over the majority? Clearly, this is a recipe for discord and disunity. There is no way the majority will be drawn to such individual, and such Eze who goes about denigrating our heros, other Igbo groups and institution clearly represent himself and his skewed minority. The rule aims to stop such people from representing us. The best place to stop them is here, with the nomination and rules. We cannot allow the all and sundry on Nairaland to decide our fate. PointB If and when it becomes a popular Igbo way to denigrate or cause the denigration our heroes, other Igbo sub-group, and cultural institution, then people at the forefront of this will be promoted, at the expense of those who don't. |

We can't forgive brother? This same haughty, we-all-must-view-things-from-same-angle/my way or highway was what made some people withdraw from the current government. No one, I mean, no freaking person should try shoving his personal opinions down anyones throat regardless of his or her position! A good leader, which unfortunately, we've not had uses facts and persuasion to 'convince and carry his subjects along' not muscle flexing!.
