That’s too much controlling, not acceptable.
He is either a SE man or a religious hypocrite.

How is he controlling? nothing about religion was said in the post, neither was his tribe. Don't start saying what you don't know.

This is your dad protecting his relationship with his wife the best way he can. If it's working for both of them and they have peace, it's fine. I think you should concentrate on your own relationship though

Funny enough, I've never dated any guy from my tribe or Xhosa guys.

18 years? You must be a grandfather by now...😂😂😂
Samantha, really? That's interesting... So, where's the dude from originally in SA? Most people tend to gravitate towards their own linguistic and cultural kind when choosing a partner of the opposite sex before looking out to other cultures though.

I know of two successful marriages involving a Nigerian multimillionaire of Yoruba descent by the name of Chief Alex Akinyele who was married to a beautiful South Africa woman for many years till she passed on. She had children for him and lived in Nigeria but traveled regularly to SA. He met and fell in love with her when she came to a Nigerian University during the apartheid years back in the late 1960s to study on scholarship. Many South Africans schooled in Nigeria (including the former SA President Thabo Mbeki) during that era on Nigerian or UN scholarships.

Second, recently too the successful Nigerian architect turned Pastor by the name Pastor Odukoya lost his South-African wife (Nomthi Odukoya) to cancer. He lost his first wife Bimbo to a horrendous plane crash in 2005, but got remarried to Nomthi few years later.

Chief Alex Akinyele and Pastor Odukoya were both Nigerians from the major Yoruba ethnic group. So, yeah real love has NO limits when put to the test in cross-cultural marriages.

Grrrr.... Lol. A grandf.... what? Just cos I've been here for 18 years doesn't make me one yet. It would be surreal when I become one. I know a Diaspora member here who was just 13 in 2007 when she joined NL but is now 29 and still a member as of 2023.

Concern ke? More like they control their partners by limiting their exposure to the world and wisdom. By keeping her off social-media, he can better ensure she remains close-minded and gullible for as long as possible. I bet that even if a library opened next door to your house, your dad would equally warn her not to read any books that are not first screened by him. undecided

These are just excuses based on assumptions, if a man wants to cheat, he will cheat, it doesn't matter if his wife is on social media or not. He gave his reasons why he doesn't want her on social media, obey that and don't give any presuppositions.
Besides if you know the kind of man you married, you go know if he's liable to cheat or not, the signs will be there, except if you choose to ignore.

He's a Sotho from Free State province, but his father is originally from Lesotho.

He and his family came to Limpopo when he was still a teenager for work purposes... I have no issues with guys from my tribe, I just never got a chance to date one before... Sometimes I wish I did, in that way, I wouldn't have to move too far away from my family because I really can't stay away from them for too long... I get home sick... Even now I'm at home, I traveled yesterday because I really missed my parents and cats.

But I'm sure your first child is an adult now... grin grin grin

Social media or not,If a woman also wants to cheat, she will cheat so it doesn't make sense for either one of them to keep one on or off the grid, it's just dumbass thinking at this point
Funny you are talking about presuppositions yet you are the one making assumptions she will cheat because she's on social media
Also, you do realize people change right? The person who you thought your spouse was when dating might be completely different when you are married

I'm a tech guy. You can't have another device and account and I won't know.

You won't delete your nairaland account because people do bad things here apart from talking rubbish .

But not real social media where small boys will have the opportunity to make you blush and think of your younger days just because they want to taste you... taste what I'm eating

There are a lot of things women do behind their men's back and they never find out, so don't think for a second that you're smarter than a woman just because you're a tech guy... I will play you with that technology of yours like a puppet... will that technology help you find where the phone is? When it's only a woman who knows all the corners of the house?

But I do receive email requests... So are you saying I should delete nairaland?

I mentioned cheating because you mentioned cheating, cheating was never included in why he wanted her not to join social media, it reasons best known to him, it was never stated. Which means it's you adding to the text.
And for people changing after getting married, the signs will be there, except ignorant due to being engrossed in the emotional feelings.

Okay let me go deeper. Yes women are smart, they think they are smart. But as long as we are close and we are in the same space, we get connected. I will feel you emotionally, psychologically and physically. I'm a very sensitive and clever man, when you are doing something wrong I will know. 80% of the girls I broke up with I told them they are doing something wrong before I caught them. I just feel your energy and I'll know when you are doing something wrong.

Nairlanders will always send you email. But nairaland has a very vague profile. When someone sends you am email you can't even browse through their profile and see how they actually look, live, their energy, connections etc... so it's very difficult to be carried away by an email from someone u can't go further in ur investigation. In contrast, if I send you a friend request on fb, u can check my profile, u can see me in a jet, in dubai, u can see the car I drive, u can see the kind of house I live in, you can see my activities, you can see the calibre of weddings I attend, you can see if I'm spiritual or worldly, you can see if I have six packs or if I'm cute cos u ll see many pics of me, you can have a lot of details about me. And if you are impressed by my profile, you will be tempted to proceed and "see where this leads" because you have see things that impress you.

And today, most women are easily carried away by material things and social media. They want to do the things they see on social media, they want to have a spark, fairytale, shuga relationship, they want to ball in daba, they want to buy human hair. There's no morality anymore and how they get these things is no longer important. That's why we have a lot of paternity fraud and extra marital activities? What do u think led to increase in extra marital affairs? Social media. Once small boy can tell you all the sweet things u want to hear because he has access to you and yoi have access to a lot of males... so u see

Suddenly, men now know what women do or can do. Lol

See them running their mouths. A grown woman will now suddenly be 'cheating' on her husband or learning/copying bad behavior, after years of committed marriage. These unmarried boys will not kill us.

When una marry, collect una wife phone. Gen Z people, cunny man die, cunny man bury am. Una dit unasef.

As for the topic, Pops should have done better by guiding her through some potential threats on the social media. Everyone should have an idea of how it runs, no matter how little, than complete abandonment. This one is not what you don't know, can't kill you. What you don't know, can kill you.

As my old mama dey take WhatsApp video call me now, e no good? You guys should take a chill pill because that 100% submission you seek, you will never find it! Each decade widens people's eyes and things will never remain the same.

Three paragraphs on a Saturday evening? Come on comrade, have mercy on me... grin grin grin

Immediately a read the first sentence, I started getting filled with regrets..😂😂😂

It seems like you're spiritually gifted to be feeling your partners emotionally and psychologically, or perhaps they deliberately gave you signs just so you can find out what they're up to and break things off with them.

I'm not easily moved by material things and ever since I heard about some of the things these ladies do in Dubai, I can't help but be disgusted by that name... Now whenever we hear a young and fine looking lady saying she's going to Dubai, we're already suspecting her of doing unimaginable things there.

If I was a millionaire, I don't think I'd visit that city, even if I do, it'd be after some years because right now I'm still traumatized by the things I heard... The way some ladies are willing to do anything for money, it's scary.
