I agree. I was also raised by a working mother & that's something she always preached to me growing up- Be independent. She taught me how to cook at around 10 because she wasn't there when I came home from school, so I had to learn early to make my own meals etc. For that I'm grateful because I had to be on my own earlier than most due to circumstances beyond my control. Never had to rely on anybody most of that time, except here & there because in life you can't make it alone for too long no matter how strong you are. At some point you're going to need someone to lift you up.
