earthrealm:Cloned or not clone the equalization is turned off on purpose in case the user is not familair with the concept The setting becomes visible once custom voltages are selected App is free on play /appstore - You can always use a laptop and .Ve direct to USB cable ( cheaper ) EPsolar I have no direct experience - I have ordered one Itracer including pure inverter to experiment with Wind and solar hybrid . so Will update in December probably. again no experience with clones but Victron absolutely yes. Much better than Morningstar for ease of use . A little-known fact about Victron is that they manufacture it in India! The new Victron Smart solar CC's support Bluetooth connection out of the box - https://www.victronenergy.com/solar-charge-controllers/smartsolar-150-85-150-100 |
Saipro: Skin effect is prominent in AC systems, not DC systems. In Ac systems For preventing electronic interference, however, stranded wire holds a disadvantage because the air channels between strands magnify the skin effect caused by magnetic fields on the surface of the wire.If a Wire can be crimped by the hydraulic press than both stranded and non-stranded work the same. But for direct connection to terminal stranded are preferred due to higher contact area

ghostt:Looks exact copy of Makeskyblue - https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/MakeSkyBlue-60A-MPPT-Solar-Charge-Controller-Regulator-for-12V-24V-36V-48VDC-Unbeatable-Price/1759821_32629969109.html I have one which was in service for 6 months. Except loud fan noise worked reliably. Took it out of service when fixed the Victron Bluesolar as I wanted to minor data remotely |
earthrealm:what is the model type No. For Victron, you have to use a programme called Victron Connect Either on PC or on Ipad/Iphone or android tablet/ phones Also to connect to the MPPT CC you need either one of these 1. Ve direct to Bluetooth dongle - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Victron-Energy-VE-Direct-Bluetooth-Dongle-FREE-EU-Delivery-/301579173692 2. Ve direct to USB cable - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VE-Direct-to-USB-cable-Victron-Energy-connects-to-VE-Direct-interface-/253043764801

earthrealm:The explanation is right there in picture ( last Para) basically more strands to mean more copper in contact with the terminal. |
GeorgeD1: a 2 V 2000 AH weighs 130 KGS and almost 04 meter x 0.4 metr - A 12 V will be almost 1 Ton in weight if you can find a supplier . Imagaine the shell thickness of plastic container to handle that weight

Konnektions146:Ipower / Gennex all use voltronics with rebranding ( links earlier on the forum) It is a Taiwanese company with a very good reputation in the budget market. Sold in SA as Axpert in Australia as giant power , worldwide as MPP Solar etc. their factories are also in China but so are the iPhone factories http://www.voltronicpower.com/oCart2/index.php?route=product/product&path=24&product_id=123 |
http://punchng.com/electricity-tariff-may-increase-by-61-5-soon/ Electricity tariff may increase by 61.5% soon Okechukwu Nnodim, Abuja The tariff payable by electricity consumers may increase by 61.5 per cent any time soon following the latest revelation by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on Friday that it was waiting for a final approval from the Federal Government before implementing the new rate According to NERC, the actual tariff for one kilowatt-hour of power is meant to be N51, as against the current unit cost of N31.58 for which electricity distribution companies are selling the commodity. NERC explained that the actual tariff of N51/KWH was arrived at based on the economic fundamentals considered when carrying out minor tariff reviews, adding that the commission had completed the process for the new tariff but had yet to receive an approval from the Federal Government to announce its implementation. It disclosed this at a training programme in Abuja. |
JohnKester:for 48 V you can have a look at Victron Quattro 5kw - 1 million or 8 KW/10 KW ( almost space price) - 1.8 million , SMA Sunny island - 8H - 1.6 million Something cheaper is ipower /gennex 5 KVA ( 4 KW) x 2 = 8 KW /10 KVA approximately 6000 K including parallel kit - Can be expanded upto 24 KW single phase I have no personal experince wityh Magnum but i think one unit is max 4.4 KW All the inverters have chargers built in . Inverters without charger cost approximately 100 K less but it is better to buy with charger ( easier to resell or charge in emergency) cheap alternative is china made inverters but for a such a serious system I would advise against it |
foonshur: Okaya is Indian Brand but the website does not inspire confidence - NO datasheets or charge curves. I have sent them a message for datasheet. Let's see if they respondhttps://www.okayapower.com/shop/smf/ob-200-12-2/ |
foonshur:I am a bit confused about ba3 . is it a type of battery or manufacturer name- A quick google search revealed only OLX ads and Nairaland. What is the make of battery? you may find the recommended settings on the manufacturer's web page Knowing battery chemistry is important before making the settings see this link on morningstars webpage - https://www.morningstarcorp.com/morningstar-best-practices-battery-chemistry/ another excellent source is - http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_the_lead_acid_battery I am doubtful if the SKG has temperature compensation or four stage adaptive charging looking at the picture. Good settings in morningstar should keep your battery at peak performance |
efuro:If the Tristar was started with Solar PV first before the battery was connected it might have registered wrong battery type of voltage specially with the discharged battery. Check the dip switch settings for battery type and voltage as Auto settings sometimes get fooled |
adewasco2k:Are u not using a BMS with Lifepo4 is the CC and inverter capable of handling LIfepo4? Otherwise, you are reducing the life of the battery . Lifepo4 charge and discharge have to be adjusted based on battery temperature |
zeestone99:It looks like the electrician in the picture is using his pliers to twist two solar cables together. Correct me If I am wrong . There is nothing else with the solar installation which requires pliers. I have long frowned on such practice. The correct way to do is use MC4 connectors and couplers with their low price there is really no excuse |
makavele:The amps are directly there Initial Current Not more than 30 Amp - Please note that that current is also for battries at 25 DEG C> if hotter the current should be reduced ( most of the advanced inverters and charge controller do temperature compensation ) Quote directly from Victron AGM datasheet - During the bulk phase the current is kept at a constant and often high level, even after the gassing voltage (14,34V for a 12V battery) has been exceeded. This can lead to excessive gas pressure in the battery. Some gas will escape through the safety valves, reducing service life 15. Charge current The charge current should preferably not exceed 0,2C (20A for a 100Ah battery). The temperature of a battery will increase by more than 10°C if the charge current exceeds 0,2C. Therefore temperature compensation is required if the charge current exceeds 0,2C. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-GEL-and-AGM-Batteries-EN.pdf You can try to lookup your battery supplier datasheet to check correct values |
efuro:The batteries like to be charged C10 (max .13C) normally ( so for 100 AH it is 12 amps only). The battery will get killed faster due to high temperatures during charging. better add one more battery in parallel at the earliest |
GeorgeD1:I agree. I may only one of the few who is praying for cost of NEPA to go up so more people see the light and invest in solar ( not as a replacement of generator but something which makes commercial sense) A diesel generator on average will cost 60 NGN/KWh considering diesel at 200 NGN/ltr. This is independent of diesel. Small diesels in the rage of 5 to 40 KVA will cots on top of that approximately 30 to 50 NGN /KWH depending on the load factor. Considering with 3 KWH /KW of solar panel on average it takes 3-4 years before your investment starts making the profit . With correctly sized lithium this period dramatically reduces to 2 years a or less due to efficiency of Lithium |
efuro:Different readymade solutions on the market you can find more https://www.geyserwise.com/products/pv-water-heating-systems/150l-pv-water-heating-system/ https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3000W-Excess-plus-Solar-I-boost-Alternative-Energy-saving-for-water-boiler-infrared-heating-system/32613200769.html? |
efuro:Yes, I am doing that on top of Solar direct heating. I just ordered last week 360 W x 2 Canadian solar meant for heating - Using Victron Quattro and microgrid inverter. The cheap heating element of 300 watts will also be inserted in solar heater tank But the biggest advnatge of direct solatr water heating is it is not so senstive to direction of teh tubes as the round tubes make efficient use of sunlight . The pV panels have to be orieneted right . In my case the Northwest side was free and sees enough sunlight for water heating but not for PV production |
dsunmade:YES, Lead acid charge efficiencies are between 65 to 85 % . If your numbers are lower means one of the two things 1. You batteries dont drain enough which means most of the time the charging pattern is short boost mode followed by longer absorb mode - Absorb mode efficiency of Lead-acid is very low as most of the energy is lost in heat 2. Batteries are old - The charger is running prolonged in absorb mode for comparison, my 40-month-old lead acid normally cycled to 20 to 30 % DOD with occasional deep discharge when the generator decides to misbehave - efficiency is close to 70 % and NO lithiums have efficiencies of 90 to 96 % !!! one main reason I am shifting to them . and also can be charged at higher rates means my generator does not have to run for more than an hour

GeorgeD1:Thanks . It does the same thing of pressure reduction. Unfortunately, protek insisted that I buy the pressurized solar system at more than 500 K for ground mounting making me drop the idea earlier Now i will purpose this system with pressure control on inlet, booster on outlet and connect to my existing 50 lts Ariston so effectively having 120 lts+ 50 lts hot water storage with full redundancy. On cloudy days IO just switch on my storage heater |

Solar Water users? and gurus in the house How did you connect the inlet of the tank ( cold water )? Direct to Overhead tank, to the borehole, manually fill using a tap The reason I am asking is I came across this https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Automatic-water-control-valve-solar-water-heater-feeder-assistant-tank/1935638063.html there is a single and double pipeline model In my solar heater user manual ( Simba make 120 L - looks like made in China) the manual recommends all filling methods which are manual and the tank has overfill discharge outlet which means if I connect to water source the water will flow out from discharge outlet. I also believe the tank and tubes can take max 0.7 bar operating pressure. In addition, the water when heated expands 3 to 5 % which means it needs space to go The system I came across only fills at 0.5 bar and the overfill outlet has to be connected to the 2-foot pipe above water level. I believe the water coulm works as counter pressure stopping inlet water. I intend to drain the tank from top outlet using a small 300 watt booster to match my house pressure of 2.5 bar

Very good idea the charge rates are same most of the time as discharge currents but I will add the column for the max charge current |
hisenjos:see my earlier group buy post 2 weeks back on freedomwon and comparison prices of all lithum battries which are accesible in Nigeria updated file attached |
hisenjos:Thank you great article. But solar is not an option for office batteries for me. At home, I have a Victron Bluesolar 45 amps with 2.5 KWp Yachi panels from Kike1 so no issues there |
Hurray PRAG 5KW inverter supports LiFEPo4 batteries !!!!!! I found the PRAG manual and what I suspected was right - The Prag has built in support for Lithium . So now I can use a battery with Cheap BMS - I found a reputable 10 KWH 48 V with 2000 Cycles battery at 3000 USD . now only to sort ouut the shipping ![]() p.s. Can the house shed some light if the new Prag hybrid ( charger/inverter/MPPT) also support LfePo4 - Can be imporant when you want your investment to be futureproof
|
Doable but not advisable for couple of reasons 1. Multiple points of failure - 3 electronic units instead of one 2. efficiency losses- The inverter even if idling will consume some power while the charger and convert will have atleast 10 % losses each - not so important as total losses are equivalent to 100 Watt bulb compared to convenience but still to keep in mind 3. The charger may not be able to sense correct battery voltage due to drops across the chain so over longer run the battery will remain undercharged unless you can change the charger setpoint voltages ( or it has voltage sense to directly measure battery volatge ) Unless you are creating a total isolated supply for critical equipment such as server or NAS it is fraught with problems and may be more costly ( cabling, fuses etc) than a single inverter /charger combo I am running a similar setup where charging is with 48 V 50 Amp - 3phase charger but the same 400 AH 48 V battery is connected to a small 350 VA inverter to power my computer and NAS essentially isolating them from Grid - ONE giant UPS ![]()

damola1:Serach for BMS 8S 28 V and your current rating . there are plenty on eBay . All vary in feature and price starting as low as 20 USD to few hundred usd The one I suggested is slightly different in sense that It can be used for any volts from 6 to 500 and any current rating buy buying additional boards at few usd each per battery, in addition, it is compatible with Victron and SMA using enable to charge and disable discharge contacts and has Bluetooth to check battery status on mobile |
damola1:200 AH x 26 V= 5.2 KWH approx assuming 80 % DOD= 4.16 KWH = at 4 KW load 1 hour, 2 KW 2 hour etc. Always solar first as far as possible - Cost of energy using Solar pv is approximately 50 Naira per unit while using Lion batteries is 80 to 100 NGN per unit Always remember Batteries only store energy which means you have to use generator or NEPA to charge them ( in absence of SOLAR PV) which means using only batteries for power supply is cost of energy ( Gen 60 NGN /unit or Nepa min 22 NGN/Unit) + battery energy cost *1.1 efficiency loss in batteries + inverter) so for NEPA it is min 120 NGN or using gen 160 NGN versus pure solar during day at 50 NGN I suggest SOLAR PV during the day and battery only for night and cloudy days |
