@Topic, Jonathan needs a speech therapist. I wasnt impressed with the way he answered Amanpour's questions. However, He has shown signs off action-oriented leadership.

Kobojunkie: Educating the masses on the REAL condition of the nation and the role they ought to play in helping fighting corruption and bad leadership both at the grass root and federal level. Without re-education of the average Nigerian mind, I doubt their will be much progress recorded . You can always get a man by using what he is most attracted to. In our case it is RELIGION. I think our religous leaders have a big role to play in the re-orientation process as Nigerians are known to be very religous (probably because of the level of poverty). |

We should begin to look for that little corner where we can make a positive impact. We will be doomed If we are wait for our leaders to shun corruption before we do. |

Mike . . . U have a point like everyone said, when we say handover, we not talking of the dude becoming the next president, but to over see things, chair the SEC meeting and all that while the president is not around. Only the president or his vice can chair the FEC meeting. And We've not been told that Yayale will oversee the affairs of the nation. Just like the ministers, he will only do whatever the acting president assigns to him. |
Politics › Re: Yayale To Take Charge : As Jonathan Jets To Us by ProAnti: 7:35pm On Apr 09, 2010 |
Kobojunkie: I think it depends on what discussion you are following. Some are focused on dealing with what happens when the president travels, and others, including self, are focused on what ought to take place when the Acting President does the "yar adua", dies etc. The circumstance necessitating the travelling of the acting president is different from the Yar'Adua disappearing act. If any of the circumstances mentioned in section 146 of the constitution happens to the acting president, the senate president takes over. |

146. (1) The Vice-President shall hold the office of President if the office of President becomes vacant by reason of death or resignation, impeachment, permanent incapacity or the removal of the President from office for any other reason in accordance with section 143 of this Constitution.
(2) Where any vacancy occurs in the circumstances mentioned in subsection (1) of this section during a period when the office of Vice-President is also vacant, the President of the Senate shall hold the office of President for a period of not more than three months, during which there shall be an election of a new President, who shall hold office for the unexpired term of office of the last holder of the office. There is no place in the constitution where it is stated that the president must hand over to someone when he is travelling for an official business. Also, there is no official statement from the presidency on who would hold forte while the acting president is away. What are we arguing about? |

Many analyses of the root cause of our problems will point to corruption. But is it really corruption?
I am wont to appreciate the role of corruption in our current situation, but I think tribalism and nepotism are also major contributors. Nairaland is an example of a place where tribalism has consistently become a stumbling block to meaningful dialogue.
As for corruption, I think a holistic study of the extent to which it affects our nation should be conducted. This can enable us as individuals plug those tiny holes that can expand to become tunnels. |
Politics › How can we contribute to Nigeria's growth? by ProAnti(op): 6:34pm On Apr 09, 2010 |
Over the years Nigerians, old and young, have complained about the ineptitude, insincerity and corrupt disposition of our leaders. We seem convinced that Nigeria would have long become a world leader if our leaders have done the right things. We place every setback we have had in our personal, communal and national lives at the doorsteps of our leaders. We complain at every opportunity. We go to our various places of religious worship to say endless prayers. The current craze is the formation of online groups aimed at analyzing and more often than not, condemning the seemingly wrong actions and policies of every government: local, state or Federal. We seem to forget that we are leaders in our own little way.
To effect a paradigm shift in our thinking and approach to issues that affect the generality of the populace, I think we need to assess ourselves to see how much we have contributed to the growth of our communities and of Nigeria at large. We need to proffer meaningful solutions to the myriad of problems facing us as a people. We need to discuss how sustainable intellectual, infrastructural and political developments can be achieved. Nairaland offers us a veritable platform to air our views.
To kickstart the process I want to ask some vital questions 1. How have you contributed to the growth of Nigeria? 2. What are the fundamental challenges facing Nigeria as a Nation? 3. How do you think we can solve them?
I expect diverse opinions and a barrage of criticism of each other’s ideas but that should not detract us.
Fellow Nairalanders, lets discuss. |

xterra2: For those of you who dont know Guards Brigade is the only independent brigade of the Nigerian Army and its Commander can deploy troops without recourse to any body be it Chiefs of army and defence or even the C-In-C but only if the troops will be used for the protection of the president,vice-presidency and the presidency(villa,SH e.t.c) People just were shouting because they are ignorant of the works of brigade of guards, ask anyone in the army to confirm this to you, And to the work of CDS,Paul Dike,if troops deployment are needed after receiving the orders form the C-in-C he then orders the Chiefs of Navy, air force and Army, In the army for example after the COAS receives the order from CDS he then order the GOC to deploy troops in which case the GOC will choose the battalions he want to deploy if the CDS or COAS did not specify To those saying that because the CDS is from South he does not command respect os a big lie-for god sake it is not everything in nigeria that is about Ethnic/religious crises He is the highest ranking member of the Armed forces he cant be disobeyed if not he can discipline the officer even a General To the issue of Jos,the DHQ handed the operation to GOC 3 div,(i think if not 2 div),so he has not any role, In the armed forces whenever there is a crisis in the nation the CDS bars top military officers from travelling e.g during the boko haram crisis and recently Yaradua absence, to people who say that why didnt he speak,he cant, the CDS cant speak on that type of matter even the COAS,CNS,CAS e.t.c thats why there is a spokesman not the service chefs themselves to come out and speak While this CDS,i know is a man of high value and he commands respect,no one in the armed forces can deny his order if he gives it And he also, monitor our peace keeping operation right from his office(he get live updates of everything)and sometimes doles out little little orders to the troops(thats why there is a force commander),he also monitors the troops of NA,NN,NAF Thanks man!!! |

The said 500billion may be the combined worth of the Ibru dynasty.
The Ibrus own a substantial percentage of Aero Contractors airline which was floated in 1959. They own Federal Palace hotel, Ikeja hotels and some of the Sheratons. This same family is into the fishing business big time. The family made a lot of money long before Oceanic bank was founded.
I really hate this attitude of running to press with bogus figures just to get public sympathy. The EFCC should get its act together and do things the right way.
That aside, I dont think Mrs Cecelia can be prosecuted without the Iboris, Dangotes and Oonis of this world being affected. The Nigerian masses should take their minds of these misleading and blindfolding tactics of our looting politicians. |

The mini league rule is not in the competition rule. What should count here is firstly, the head to head rule then the number of goals scored. The head to head rule cannot apply due to the cyclic wins. The next criteria produces Cameroun and Zambia (not necessarily in that order) as the group winners. I think some other rule (probbably the fair play rule) was used in deciding who tops the group. Abi na Hayatou arrangee, I no know sha |

The Cabinda rebels have been fighting for the Independence of Cabinda. Cabinda, like Nigeria's Niger Delta, is oil rich and neglected but unlike the Niger Delta, is geographically seperate from the rest of Angola.
FIFA cited security and unrest as a reason for denying Warri the hosting rights of the resently concluded U-17 world cup but our funny CAF did not see enough reasons to deny a more unsafe region the hosting rights to CAN 2010. See the outcome. I just hope the Angolan government would find a good explanation for the death of a foreign national in their own country. What a shame! |

Politics › Re: Nigeria Classified Amongst 14 Terrorist Nations - CNN by ProAnti: 11:41am On Jan 07, 2010 |
I found this write up in a foreign website. There are lots of questions for us all to ponder on. Available evidence suggests that Abdulmutallab should have landed on TSA’s hush-hush “Selectee list” for additional screening, or the agency’s “No-fly list.” And given NSA intercepts and a CIA biographical report on the suspect, this alone should have barred him from entering the country if “normal” security procedures were followed. They weren’t.
As The Independent on Sunday reported last week, “the revelation of Abdulmutallab’s background has confounded terror experts.” One such “expert,” Dr Magnus Ranstorp of the Center for Asymmetric Threat Studies at the Swedish National Defence College, told IoS that “the attempted bombing ‘didn’t square’.”
“On the one hand” Ranstorp said, “it seems he’s been on the terror watch list but not on the no-fly list.”
“That doesn’t square” Ranstorp elaborated, “because the American Department for Homeland Security has pretty stringent data-mining capability. I don’t understand how he had a valid visa if he was known on the terror watch list.”
Good question, Dr. Ranstorp. Perhaps because someone wanted him on that plane. The question is, who?
One would have thought, given the “special treatment” afforded antiwar activists by TSA at airports, that a warning about Abdulmutallab’s possible involvement with terrorists, by his own father no less, a former top official in a government friendly to Washington, numerous NSA intercepts, a CIA dossier and MI5 reports would have raised at least one red flag!
In the suspect’s case, there were so many red flags flying you’d have thought the Red Army was parading through Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport!
Then again, perhaps Abdulmutallab was on that plane because, as journalist Daniel Hopsicker was told by a former aviation executive during his investigation of the 9/11 attacks: “Sometimes when things don’t make business sense … its because they do make sense…just in some other way.”
As the World Socialist Web Site points out:
The general outlines of the Northwest bombing attempt and the 9/11 attacks are startlingly similar. One might even say that what is involved is a modus operandi. In both cases, those alleged to have carried out the actions had been the subject of US intelligence investigations and surveillance and had been allowed to enter the country and board flights under conditions that would normally have set off multiple security alarms.
Both then and now, the government and the media expect the public to accept that all that was involved was mistakes. But why should anyone assume that the failure to act on the extensive intelligence leading to Abdulmutallab involved merely “innocent” mistakes–and not something far more sinister? (Bill Van Auken, “The Northwest Flight 253 intelligence failure: Negligence or conspiracy?,” World Socialist Web Site, December 31, 2009)
And so dear readers with are left to ponder the question, cui bono? Who would benefit politically from a major terrorist incident on American soil, ready, willing and able to step into the breach and exploit the catastrophic loss of human life that would follow in its wake?
Who indeed. http://dissidentvoice.org/2010/01/the-strange-case-of-umar-farouk-abdulmutallab/ |
