LagosOrigin:Vanguard got it wrong. Someone on the flight confirmed this happened on the Ibom Air 7am flight from Lagos to Abuja on Wednesday morning. The culprit took the cash (Dollars) from a bag stowed by a foreigner in the overhead bin as soon as he boarded. The owner of the bag later stood up to get something from the bag but noticed his bag had moved and upon checking found his cash was missing so he raised the alarm. An old lady mentioned seeing the culprit fiddling with what she thought was his bag. According to the story teller, the old lady was the one that pointed out the culprit and insisted they searched him. These things happen on aircrafts hence cabin crew on some airlines usually announce that passengers keep their eyes on their belongings. |
Peter Obi, Sanwo-Olu, Obaseki, Dapo Abiodun, Oshiomole, Emefiele, Badaru, Elumelu, Dele Momodu, Gen. Irabor, Senator Abiru, Donald Duke and a host of other political and business leaders were also in attendance. |

Whats the significance of this news? A larger vessel berthed at Onne in 2020 https://www.premiumtimesng.com/business/business-news/409114-largest-container-vessel-on-nigerian-water-berths-at-onne-port-npa.html |

Sad news! Met him a few months ago and I can confidently say he was not the regular politician. He was pragmatic and understood business and what Nigeria required to move forward. Senator Aluko left government 18 years ago and has been in the corporate world, working for Chevron - the global multinational oil and gas company - at a time. He later joined NIPCO group as an Executive Director helping the company wade through the very difficult business environment in Nigeria. His children - Sone and Eniola - have made their mark in the world of football. May his soul rest in peace! |
ornicus:I have experienced this on Uber. I didn't realise until about 6 weeks after the trip. Reported to Uber but their response was that they couldn't refund my money as the incident was beyond their one month timeline of reporting cases. |
Explorers:@Mod/OP $434 is 156 billion Naira and not 15.6 billion |
Preator:A big issue with us Nigerians is the desire to adopt socialist philosophies when it comes to public utilities and services but embrace capitalism when there is money to be made. We want free education, low-cost health care, free potable water, cheap petrol and I dare say, free electricity. We not only want free services, we demand high quality service delivery not minding the cost of producing such. Because we are so accustomed to fuel subsidies, we now think it's our right to get subsidised electricity which most of us end up wasting. Our government makes it worse in a bid to look pro-people and with the way the vilify private companies who insist on providing services only if the costs are fully covered. The power sector will never work if government does not allow cost-reflective tariffs or pay for revenue shortfalls where they insist on cheap electricity. The idea that the citizens cannot afford to pay the correct price for electricity is fallacious as a large proportion of Nigerians already spend a lot more powering their homes with generators and unknowingly spending a lot on treating sicknesses which may not be unconnected to the bad air we breathe as a result of generator fumes or lack of proper sleep due to generafor sounds. On the topic, the Discos are correct that they are no longer responsible for metering as NERC has licensed Metering Assets Providers to take on that responsibility. |
1. Can someone please help add the number of votes scored by the two leading candidates in Abia state and compare same with the number of accredited voters in the state? 2. Were there no other candidates in the election? 3. Where are the invalid/rejected votes? |
@radautoworks, Could you please confirm availability (in Lagos) and price of Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) for Honda Accord 2005 Ex 2.4L? Many thanks. |
Nbote:Did he lend them the money from his pockets. No! That he contributed to the formation and eventual take off of the EFCC means nothing if he cannot prove his innocence in the corruption allegations hanging on his neck. |
naptu2:The information is definitely wrong as Onne ports was concessioned to two companies - Intels and Brawal - with Intels being the more efficient company. https://brawaloilserviceslimited.com |
obailala:Let's for the sake of argument assume the private owners have been bad managers. What can we say of the government who is not just a part-owner in some of the companies but who in most cases fully own some of the key players? The issues bedevilling the power sector can be solved by the private sector if and only if they get the backing of the government and the consumers. We cannot put all the blame on the doorsteps of the private part-owners of the discos (and gencos) as the liquidity and other issues they face are substantial. As @Reference rightly inferred, government agencies and facilities are some of the biggest electricity debtors. I don't expect a disco staff to confidently disconnect a military installation for failing to pay electricity bills. |
Reference:Power is business but the government is still the biggest impediment to the growth of electricity sector. Owing to a penchant for control, the government through NERC, fixes electricity prices and most times the tariffs are sub-economic and far lower that the costs. Same way they try to overly control petrol prices, a situation that has led to gross inefficiencies, reduced productivity and increased corruption. The regulator should focus on providing an enabling environment for business to thrive rather than fixing prices of goods and services. As an aside, why did the government retain some stake in the distribution companies when they can't use their substantial shareholding to drive positive change in these establishments? |
Fashola is being clever by half, if he truly said this. The government is still the biggest player in the power sector therefore it can be blamed for the inefficiencies and poor performance. Government owns 10 power generation plants via NDPHC. In addition it has 100% control in the transmission segment and has about 40% stake in all the distribution companies. Government owns the only bulk electricity trader and off course is in absolute control over NERC, the sector regulator. These kinds of statements, if truly made by the minister, portrays him in bad light as it reveals a shallow understanding of the sector. |
maestroferdi:@senatordave1 may not be wrong, at least, going by the conversations I've had with some politically astute Cross Riverians, including some core PDP men. I learnt Ayade frustrated Owan, a grassroot politician and Imoke loyalist, out of PDP. The story is that the PDP leaders see Owan as one of them and are aligning to push Ayade out. That said, I think the governorship elections in the state will be too close to call. |
Olori:We were told the same thing. The owner of the building contributed 50k for each apartment while the occupants contributed 50k each. We accepted the arrangement to put an end to the ridiculous estimated bills they've been distributing lately. We had an over 300% increase in the monthly estimated bill between March and August 2018. |
Brugo:$2 billion is over 600billion Naira. What is the total capital expenditure in the 2017 budget? Under what ministry''s budget was this project listed? The figure is clearly inaccurate. VP Osinbajo should be careful about these kinds of inaccuracies lest he taints his reputation. |
bukifemi1:Is this post preemptive (11:45 pm is 7 hours into the future) or is there an error in the date and time? Thought Bonny terminal was in Rivers State. |
Dakuku Peterside is an excellent administrator with eyes for quality. I hope he performs better than Mr. Akpobolokemi who opened our eyes to the revenue potential in NIMASA. That said, the appointment is compensatory. |
Trays on seats close to the emergency exit are usually sealed to prevent obstructions in emergency situations. The seal quality is poor though. |
slimfit1:Whose negligence? Nigeria becomes a lawless nation the moment people's right to defend themselves in court is trampled upon or the moment accused persons have reasons to believe court judgements will not be obeyed. We must tread with caution. |
PassingShot:Every accused person deserve justice and a fair trial under the constitution and laws of the land. The president cannot decide for the courts- 'separation of powers'. I like PMB's drive to clean up Nigeria but I'm scared we may all lose our civil liberties if we continue applauding the anti-democratic disposition of the DSS. |
toniok:Amaechi built hundreds of standard primary schools and very good hospitals in Rivers State same way Akpabio constructed some good roads in Akwa Ibom but that does not absolve them from allegations of utilising resources of their respective states in unconstitutional/illegal ways. Like most contributors have said, this is a test of PMB's anti-corruption resolve. I pray these roforofo fights benefit the masses in the long run. |
wirinet:Every Nigerian, irrespective of political leaning, has a right to demand fairness and accountability from the government of the day. PMB is my president and I have a duty to support him to succeed but that support must not become hero-worship or blind. The OP made some fundamental errors in trying to defend the indefensible in multicultural nation like ours. PMB must steer clear of blind supporters who would end up planting political land-mines for him. |
dTruth101:Lt. Col Ojogbane is from Kogi State, North-Central Kingsley Kuku is from Ondo state, South-West... Not so sure tho Dr Joseph Dawha is from Bornu state, North-East Brgd Gen. Arogbofa is from Ondo, South-West That said, we voted change and as such expect PMB not to toe GEJ's line. |
How would future residents and workers move in and out of Eko Atlantic? Would it be through the tiny and already traffic-prone Ahmadu Bello way in Victoria Island? I just hope the developers have given this a thought. |
@Phantom For my education please. Is the said power plant the AfamVI reportedly built by Shell? Amaechi did well in the education and health sectors but he sold lots of Rivers assets to cronies at the twilight of his administration. A case in point is the majority stake in the Trans Amadi power plant he sold off without due process. I just hope Wike isn't playing to the gallery. |
