For Nigeria to win the war against terrorism, the President needs to overhaul the presidency...redeploy or sack the key staff. The same Presidency sources who give Saharareporters and other media houses insider info may be the same people giving Boko haram intel about the plans of the military. The enemies within must be flushed out lest the nation crumbles. |
9 minutes into the video- no fire service to help fight the fire, no ambulance to carry the dead and wounded, no police to help with crowd control. Rather, the mobile policemen in the video stood far away gisting... What a sad tale. What an annoying situation we've found ourselves. Politicians only interested in politicking- amassing wealth, fanning the flames of religious division, encouraging tribalism and hatred, throwing baseless accusations and counter-accusations. How did things get this bad? How did we lose the values we once espoused? How did we become this heartless? One day, one eventful day, things would get to a climax and those who derive joy in our sufferings will find no place to hide. Things they once cherished will haunt them. Their children will reject them. Their communities will abandon them. They will beg for the mercy only God can grant. Then Nigeria shall rise. Yes, we shall arise and generations unborn shall be proud of their country. |
The learning here is the success of the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund. The very idea our greedy governors continually kick against. |
Horus: There are safety norms in developed countries, a petrol station should not be in any densely populated area. According to the Petroleum Act 1934, a petrol pump should be situated where human habitation is comparatively very low and it should have a boundary wall of minimum six feet in height. Not to deviate from the topic, but who gets the blame for the indiscriminate siting of petrol stations? The FG's DPR who issues license to every one or the state agencies incharge of building control. |
Horus: Yes but but in developed countries tankers should not go through densely populated areas. This was the point that Fashola madeSo how would petrol stations in densely populated areas get their supply? With jerry cans? |
geeez: RIP to the deadThe director of the Lagos state fire service admitted yesternight on Channels TV that the three fire trucks they deployed to fight the fire had to go back two times to refill their tankers. According to him, the trucks were deployed from Ojo, Isolo and one other fire service base in Lagos. He also mentioned deploying 600 litres of chemical foam. My questions Does that mean that each of the fire service base has only one truck each? If not, why did the trucks initially deployed have to go back TWO times to refill instead of deploying additional trucks? Would the damages have been minimised, even marginally, if not for ill preparations and organisation on the part of the fire service? Why deploy only 600L of chemical foam when it was clear that the raging fire was caused by 33,000 litres of highly inflammable petrol coupled with other combustible materials? |
Mynd_44: But the presidency said they have fixed the rails naLook at the rail map of Nigeria and tell me the states that are connected via rail. While at it, consider how much it would cost to connect all the states and how long it would take. |
The cabal behind the petrol tanker business is one of the strongest in Nigeria. Those who say petroleum products should be transported via rail should tell us how many rail lines we have built since independence. Politicians will always look for ways to whip up sentiments when they know the truth. |

1MCN: I dont think you're correct, sir about 'prevented people from entering'. . . My office is in GRA 1. There is unusual prominent security presence especially around the Polo Club (Le Meridian Ogeyi) gates.I said "was". I wanted to have lunch at Jevinik at about 1:45pm but the policemen warned me to turn back if I didn't want trouble. A military policeman was the one conducting traffic at the junction at that time. |
Chiddysville: Pls, which road are you talking about or you just want to seek for unnecessary attention?Tombia street, GRA phase 2 was blocked this afternoon. Policemen prevented people from entering Jevinik restaurant, Genesis centre and into Tombia street. |
Olaolufred: What of arresting both?Arresting both would give the Police a semblance of impartiality but won't solve the larger problem. At best, it would make the two of them scape goats while allowing the puppeteers continue in the deceit. |
naptu2: Ok then, many people were injured at the house of assembly, what has the police done about that? Is it one law for some and another law for others? These people were caught on video committing crimes! Has anybody been arrested? What is the job of the police?@Naptu, Chidi Llyod cannot be arrested without Gov. Amaechi accusing CP Mbu of partisanship. If Evans Bipi is arrested, the other group would do the same. The situation in Rivers state is so delicate that any major arrest as this time would lead to a complete breakdown of law and order. The best the police can do at the moment is to reduce the level of exposure of the citizens.... The reason I said politicians should stop giving these street boys reasons to protest. The protesters were said to have been at the airport since 7am. Wasn't there enough time for the Governor to advice his visitors to abort the trip rather than allow them walk into a trap and further heat up the polity? The governor could have hosted the visitors in Abuja since he also flew in from Abuja that day. How did the protesters know of the solidarity visit to the extent that they were able to mobilise that early? Gov. Amaechi and Barr. Wike should stop this deceit. They should stop making the police look worse than they already are. |
naptu2: The police exist to prevent such anarchy. How many people have they arrested? How can they allow this to continue? The Rivers state police command have been doing a marvellous job in curtailing violence in the state considering the calibre of people involved in this battle for supremacy. Politicians are overheating the polity by their incessant solidarity visits and are making the job difficult for the Police.. Governor Amaechi and Barr. Wike should settle their bedroom quarrel and stop deceiving the world that they are fighting for the masses thereby causing unnecessary tension. |
The OP should be one of the oldest members of Nairaland (2005 set). This thread is probably a "Thank you" gift from Seun. |
koruji: These are not relevant questions on this topic becos those are not the issues. The issue is the penchant of the FG under GEJ to copy, many times badly I must say, things that Fashola has been doing for ages and then run to the mountaintop to proclaim it GEJ's idea or project. To copy is not bad, and in fact it serves the people, but to latch on to other peoples projects and then try to defame those same people is dishonorable to say the least. So what are the issues? And where/when did the FG latch on to LASG projects and then try to defame the LASG? |
babapupa: Having rights to do anything doesn't mean you can do it or you are competent enough to do it. Making pronouncements means nothing until you are competent enough to back it up with actions. Anybody can issue pronouncements.Who/what determines competence? |
@Kuroji, Is the FG installing CCTV cameras in Lagos? Does the FG have the right to install CCTV cameras in Lagos? Would it be wrong for the FG to put party affiliations aside and work with LASG to work for the betterment of the masses? |
ndu_chucks: This is not Boko Haram who need to be given amnesty and reabsorbed into society. If this group is indeed based in Nigeria, then the President has failed woefully by siting idly and allowing the group to flourish.. Blame GEJ while the saintly Northern elites fold their arms watching criminal elements drag the north into a state of war. Continue blaming GEJ. |

@ekt_bear, The 2006 population census puts the population of the South-West at 27.58 million with that of the South-south as 21.01 million. Therefore @Beaf's approximation of 20 million for the south-south is not incorrect. |
Visit Akwa Ibom State and see the standard roads criss-crossing the state. Visit Rivers State and see the quality of the Primary schools built by the current administration. Visit Kaduna state and see what new towns development is. Visit Cross River state and see the definition of a neat and beautiful environment ![]() When you are done going round, you will realise Fashola is just an average governor who benefits from the concentration of media houses in his domain. |
ndu_chucks:ndu_chucks my friend, The story is believeable. On January 6th 2010, I was robbed by some FULANI young men between Ogere and Sagamu (I served in Northern Nigeria so I can recognise a Fulani man when I see one). They somehow stopped the bus I was travelling in, came out from the surrounding bush and robbed everyone in the bus while brandishing machetes, dane guns and daggers A middle-aged woman refused to let them take her bag and they used matchetes on her. The woman lost a lot of blood and we carried her into the bus and handed her over to men of the FRSC when we got to Sagamu. Since that incident, I consider every Fulani herdsman a potential robber. |
mikeansy:Not true. Allowances are usually percentages of the basic salary. See: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-753481.0.html https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-469864.0.html A reduction of X% of basic salary approximately translates to an X% reduction in gross salary. The areas that may not be affected are the benefits and perquisites (especially estacodes). |
humblebee:Are you protesting? Can you categorically state how many of your siblings/relatives are partaking in the protest? Do you think anyone working in the private sector will abandon his/her job and join in the protests? This topic of the thread is pure falsehood. |
