TV/MoviesRe: Is Nollywood Really 20years Old? by prof800(m): 7:22pm On Sep 03, 2013
Well I was made to understand that 'nollywood' actually refers for the alaba/idumota marketers era which actually started in '93 with the birth of Kenneth Nnubue's 'living in bondage'. So that makes it 20yrs.

I don't really know much but today nollywood has also come to also mean the Nigerian Movie Industry...

Just use your discretion. The Nigerian Movie Industry is older than 20yrs. The same cannot be said 'bout nollywood cos the name has been hijacked.

No time for story but We Nigerians are a people who like to conveniently ignore our own history.
TV/MoviesRe: How Marketers Hijacked Nigeria’s Movie Industry by prof800(m): 6:52pm On Sep 03, 2013
It is very saddening...each time we delve into the history of Nollywood its all a very sad story. A chain reaction that led to a rot that we are now living with today and trying so much to ammend. But the overpowering presence of the rulers of 'the cabal' who have long been there have not made things easy.
Believe me, even the makers of the 'new nollywood' movies we see today in cinemas have had to bow down one way or the other to one godfather or irrelevant body or association in other to be allowed into the market.
Now.

The notion about marketers hijacking a movie industry is not absolutely correct because the industry was hijacked by the earliest 'tom & harrys' who were lucky to be in main stream productions at that time.
The reason for the hijack was that the early marketers were ripping of the producers. So the producers delved into marketing. And they were so powerful since they were initially producers turn marketers, their association became very strong and began to stir the wheel of The Nigeria Movie industry.

And it was across board because their association was the first to include all marketers of 'english, igbo, yoruba and our few nothern movies then'.

They are the early filmmakers themselves turned marketers. Most of them don't even know a jack about film making but were just lucky to be among.

The was no viable academy...
Everyone was in it for the money...
None look to the future...

The marketers brought in rich men as executive producers...overtime these rich men became interested in doing the business and also became marketers (ofcourse with connection).
And so on...

darchyneer: U know guys that are doing it? Connect me with one. It maybe an idea that has started long time ago but ways of execution defers. There was friendster, MySpace before Facebook. But what happened?
You're right, 'execution defers'.
But I really hope you hang out here more often and see through a few threads just like the ones my oga posted.
Believe me, there are great animators and VFX creators in Nigeria even here on NL.
You'll find them or they'll find you.
I won't mention usernames.
Now.
Lets talk about the challenges we currently no of...
...they say "those who fail to plan plan to fail."
So its not bad if we consider the possible challenges (which some are already facing) and profer suggestions and recommendations. I hope it will help prepare you ahead.
The First Question is:
..."who is going to pay?"
I think its safe for us to begin our progressive discusion from that angle.

darchyneer: I will start employing like minds and all ranting will stop.

So 'what are you going to do about it?' Answer your own question.
Are you a LEARNER...?
I want to believe you don't hang out in the 'art/graphics' section cos if you do there will be no touch of ignorance in your post.

What you're cultivating as an idea is a reality that has been in being long long ago.!

In fact, I know guys who have started out. Now they are persevering and living with the challenges of doing that kind of business in Nigeria.

VillageBoi: If the plot has holes then that is a valid argument. A face being blown away is NOT... you only have to Google it to find out that people can & have survived such in THIS world of ours talkless of the future. And even recently in Syria.
Yea I remember a woman whose face was blown off by her hussy. I saw her on Opera's Show about 10yrs ago, I think she was about to go for facial surgery then.
