TV/MoviesRe: Your First Horror Movie Experience by prof800(m): 8:47am On May 27, 2013
honestly, i can't remember the title of my first two horror movies. It was so long ago and it was on black and white but still scary as hell. I remember the first one was about undeads eating human brains, and it haunted everyone (except our granddad) for about three years.

But the earliest which i can attribute to as the first (though actually the third) is 'evil dead(1983)' which made me a fan of horror and 'unrated' films.

our people inflate budget alot...rightly though for the wrong reasons. They spend little or nothing in marketing, why?
Let's wait for HOAYS and see how they will go about it.

Another thing is 'release date'.
Most of our movies don't have release date.

TV/MoviesRe: Bollywood Vs Hollywood - Which Is Better? by prof800(m): 1:14am On May 24, 2013
Afam4eva: I never mentioned English dialogue. I just said "dialouge" which could be in French, Swahili, Igbo or Yoruba.

I also find it difficult understand English dialogue because my first language is Igbo not English grin
oh i see.!
that is an argumentative fallacy called 'bias ad incognito' commited by my people..because a typical ibadan girl doesn't understand 'english' she hates their movies, call them wack, and prefers yoruba shytes.

HOLLYWOOD has the BEST dialogue in the planet and also accounts for some of the worsts.-FACT 2.

hahaha..nice one..i like u.
but without the teachers...(finish it yourself)
Besides; Hollywood no be Bollywood 'teacher' na him 'mentor'. He no teach am anything, the guy took the pain to understudy his mentor..just like ghollywood did for nollywood(history) wey people come dey say ghollywood 'iz better'.

TV/MoviesRe: Bollywood Vs Hollywood - Which Is Better? by prof800(m): 12:39am On May 24, 2013
semid4lyfe: Seriously, I can't believe this is up for debate and to make matters worse, Afam says their action films are "top notch" and even goes on to mention movies like Dhoom , Don etc lol. grin

If there's a film genre in which the gap between Hollywood & Bollywood movies is so glaring, it's the action film genre.

I've seen Dhoom 1 & 2, Don 1 & 2 (a rip-off of Face-Off), Agneepath, Wanted, Players (a rip-off of The Italian Job & Tower Heist), Dabangg 1 & 2, Agent Vinod, Blood Money, Robot, Ra-One, The Bodyguard etc and I wasn't impressed.

Hollywood movies are generally better in all aspects - originality, Story/Plot, Dialogue, Characters development, Cinematography, Acting performances, Visual & Sound effects, Plot Progressions, stunts & choreography, use of subtlety, Twists & Surprises, Climax . . .name it.
HERO (bollywood renaissance film) was also a rip off of 'Mission Impossible'.
So this is it, there is nothing bad in doing a slight 'remix' (rip off) if the aim is to improve. When bollywood wanted to make cinematic breakthrough in US it started with action movies which were mostly remix of some hollywood films. But then they got better, stopped doing remix and started out with their own plots. Basically, 'they only used the remixes to train themselves'.

Also, remember when the goldendays of naija hiphop (afripop) was about to jump start, in the 90's, most of the contents were mostly remix, yes mostly remix of foreign contents! Then, it metamorphosized into our own style called 'afropop' that we now export abroad. No more remix. The remix then was just a way of learning the trade. Its called transformation.

Bollywood has learnt ALOT from Hollywood- FACT.!
I don't think Hollywood has ANYTHING to learn from Bollywood.

So myfrnd, do the 'one plus one'. And let people who think Bollywood is better than Hollywood keep doing 'one minus one' because na zero them go get.!

someone looks excited.! Well, that's a good sign dat d film is going to be 'exciting'. But take your time, no matter how much 'we' hurry you.
unless EVERYTHING is right.
TV/MoviesRe: The Production Of Science Fiction In Nollywood by prof800(m): 6:50am On May 18, 2013
VillageBoi: Somadino & Sholay - You both have said it as it is and that is the truth. We're really not ready to tackle certain types of films... because if we do, as usual, we are more than likely to make something mediocre.

However, I will contradict myself and say I think the generation of filmmakers we have today CAN actually make good sci-fi films... the major problem we have is we can write some OTT stuff. I bet a Nigerian writer today will write a sci-fi full of aliens and spaceships, explosions and stuff that A) We simply can't film or do well... not with the horendous VFX rubbish all our filmmakers tend to settle for and B) It will probably be written with zero consideration for how on earth one is meant to get the budget to do this WELL. Also, I think we still do not spend enough TIME making our films.

If we have writers that CAN actually think outside the regular 'see-wetin-I-fit-do-nah' box, then there is a slight chance that we can make good sci-fi.

There is a film that I think everyone should watch. It's a pretty cool indie sci-fi with a simple yet very effective idea. 'There IS another earth out there'. The main effect in the film is simply showing 'Another Earth' in the sky and the film is actually called 'Another Earth'.
I think 95% of what happens in it is simple drama, yet it is a sci-fi. The story is there is another YOU an exact YOU (probably with a different set of circumstances) on the other earth and when contact is made we only see it as a video link showing on TV so zero effects needed for that. When you watch the movie, think of how easily that could be a Nollywood film. So can we do such? Definitely! Do we 'write' such? Definitely not!

ANOTHER EARTH - TRAILER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qB50aBrHbu4
ANOTHER EARTH is a brilliant movie. Another one is THE FOURTH KIND(Starring Milla Jovovich) although not really good enough but it shows us that u can actually tell a sci-fi story without much VFX and all those stunts.

Just something simple like these is good to start with and experiment.
So IMO i think Nollywood can actually start with these kind of 'semi' sci-fi before 'graduating' to making stuffs like; 'Ogboni- the great and powerful' (wizard of Oz) or 'Nna the Iron Man 3'.

Sci-fi or 'fantasy' is just about telling an extra ordinary story anyhow..abi na?
TV/MoviesRe: The Production Of Science Fiction In Nollywood by prof800(m): 6:31am On May 18, 2013
sholay2011: I believe the drama genre really needs to be fully explored to bring nollywood into the 'real' limelight. I mean serious dramas, that may even be based on real life events like the aba women riot, a remake of 'Stubborn grasshopper', boko haram brouhaha, book adaptations etc, not blackberry babes and android boyz kinda films. Lol.
oga sholay, u got me laffin..which one be 'android boyz' again?

gendebs: I dare anybody to tell me just one Hollywood movie that beats "3 idiots" in term of creativity and suspence
what is your definition if 'creativity' and 'suspense' because you actually have to 'know' what you're talking about for you to understand my reply.

Afam4eva: I don't even consider "3 idiots" as one of the best Indian movies.
Neither do i.

VillageBoi: ^^^^^
Well said @ Sholay - and adding 'The Usual suspects', 'Sixth Sense', 'Inception' and 'Shutter Island' out of the hundreds that are out there with more 'creativity & suspense' than 'Three Idiots'.
EXACTLY! Out of the HUNDREDS that are out there with more 'creativity & suspense' than 3 Idiots. Even in bollywood.

TravelRe: Can I Travel From Lagos To Us By Sea?how Much? by prof800(m): 7:21am On May 13, 2013
Originalsly: I've not read all the comments but this my say. Cruise ships are the ones that carry passengers.I don't know of any operating between Nigeria and the US.Next...cargo ships which do operate between Nigeria and the US.You would need to be working on the ship to travel. If it is going to the US, you will need a special visa from the US consulate. If not I guess you will have to sneak on to the ship...be a stowaway...and keep out of sight of the crew. If they catch you they will lock you up on board until they get to the port before turning you over to the local police or hmmm...they can throw you overboard. If you are very desperate, then you can always set out like Christopher Columbus and hope for the best...when the Coast Guard approaches you will know you are in US waters...or...who knows...you may discover a whole new world!
this iz the badest advice i have ever heard.!
