Phones › How To Disable Background Data In Android by Psoul(op): 3:30pm On Apr 24, 2016
Most of the apps that you have installed on your android device consume lot of data in the background to provide better experience. They get updated or refreshed regularly if proper refresh interval is not set or if the background data is left unrestricted by pinging their servers every now and then. Background data could prove costly if ignored as the mobile data charges are higher and most of us rely on mobile data to browse and use mobile applications. It would be better to disable background data in android as carriers charge heavily when the data limits of the plan are crossed. The only problem you will face if background data is restricted is that you will not get notifications from apps which get updated even when not in use.I would say that, it would not be a problem as the apps get updated as and when they are opened even if the background data is disabled. Let us see how we can disable background data in Android.

You can disable background data when you are about to sleep or when you are at work to prevent the wastage of mobile data. Most importantly many suggest to use third party applications to manage background data and monitor data usage. But I can strongly say that installing these third party applications is complete waste of time and waste of precious space on your device. The stock android itself offers all these features. You can either restrict background data for all the apps or for an individual app by following few simple steps described below.

Disable background data in Android for all apps

For disabling background data for all the apps at a time, head over to Settings menu where you can find the option Data usage. Tap on it and you can find a graph which clearly depicts the data consumption in your android. You can monitor your data usage from here by settings cycles, can also set warnings and can enable or disable mobile data. All these features come in handy.
To disable data, tap on the menu option present at the top right corner of the screen. You can find lot of options as shown in image below. Now check the option “Restrict background data”. When you are done following these steps, background data will be restricted and you will get a pop-up. Path is Settings > Data usage > menu.

Disable background data in Android for selected app

If you want to disable background data for a specific app of your choice which you think is consuming a lot of data, follow these steps. Navigate to Settings menu and tap on the option Data usage. You can find all the apps in the descending order of data consumption by them. You can find two more options when you tap on an application which are Foreground and Background. At the bottom of the screen, you can find the option Restrict background data.Check this option to restrict the background data. If you want to disable background data for other apps then you have to repeat the same procedure for those apps also. Path is Settings > Data usage > Desired app.

Note: If you disable background data in your device,it will automatically stop fetching updates for applications. All the apps will be updated only when you manually update them or open them or when you individually set the refresh interval for them. Hence disabling background data will be helpful and could be considered only if you are running short of mobile data. If you constantly follow social media apps like Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc.., then I would suggest not to disable background data.

wilcox:
You should have enough space between d road and fence. Just in case your governor decides to expand the road in future.

I quite disagree with you on this, and I will give you my reasons. If my building plan is approved by the ministry of urban development and I follow the plan, if any government decide to expand or carry out any construction on the road that will affect my building then appropriate compensation should be paid. It's only in Nigeria that you see individual developers going to develop an area without the master plan of that area. The best practice is for the government to map out all available infrastructure. E.g access road, drainage, walk way, electric line etc.
wilcox....I also disagree with you on this. This post is mainly for Nigerian Architects and builders. Wot the OP said is very correct. Dont forget that this is Nigeria where anything can happen. This is a country where compensation does not work. You may tell me here that if you know your right you will fight for it, but it hardly works.

Pls to be on the safe side, just give enough space for future expansion. Government is always above any individual. Even if compensation is to be paid, dont forget that a demolition will take place which will inconvenience you and extra work will be needed, but when you give extra space, u may go for compensation of the space taken by government and not for pulling down your fence.

I have been wondering if there is any part of a woman that has not gotten fake/artificial item starting from her hair to the toes of her feet.

Artificial hair
Artificial face
Artificial eye brow, lens, eye latch
Artificial mouth
Artificial nose
Artificial shoulder
Artificial breast, cleavage and nipples
Artificial waist
Artificial butt
Artificial nails
Artificial this and artificial that;

This so boring, cant we just get women that are relatively natural and ok the way they are made. Am not saying that been fashionable is wrong, but a situation you see one woman wearing a whole bunch of artificial items at a time.

That's a very unfair generalization from you, if only you knew the efforts the mods (past and present) have put on this forum, you wouldn't have made that bolded statement.

I am also a part of the golden oldies on this forum and I agree that the quality of posts has reduced overtime. However back then, very few people had internet access so we had less kids trolling around. Now that almost everyone has a gprs enabled device and easy access to internet, go to any online platform with high traffic and see if you wouldn't come accross immature, tribalistic, offensive comments alongside the balanced and positive contributions.

And please, whenever you come accross an offensive post on any section, don't hesitate to report it.
Dear Dominique….I believe you have a good and standard grasp of English language basics. I never generalized here.

If you can read it again, I said that it seems that most of the Mods enjoy the rude joke. (that was an assuption based on my observations). Secondly, as you pointed out about the heavy traffic in the network recently compared to past years, which may be reason of some of the Mods not been able to handle all issues. I want to partly agree with you on this, but if that same Mod that was able to ban Mr. A for making a post that violates/seem to violate a particular rule is the same moderator commenting positively on a post from Mr. “B” on such post that made him(Mod)ban Mr. “A” what do make out of this? We see unfair treatments here. We have been here both in thick and thin and still hope to be provided we are equitably protected.

Well, Op, despite the fact that all you've said is true... One thing you have to understand is Change is Constant... dont expect Nairaland of 2010 to be same with 2015 and with the pace at which technology is advancing, sex seems to be the talk of the day ( even 12 yr olds who dont have phones know stuff about it to an extent ), so dont be suprised by what you see in romance section...... My only issue is that there's much bias on this forum, i joined just last year and have already been entreated to so much insult/curses hurled at the igbo, but nothing's done about it, when some igbo folks reply, banning begins....Same goes for the religion dept. The section i've enjoy most is the sports dept. b'cos of the jokes and trolls in it (we also have some genius nigerian coaches there) smiley ..... I've learnt within this short stay on NL to turn a deaf ear to certain things being done here and i think you should do the same Op.... have a nice day wink
Thanks for your comment. If u read the post very well you'll see that I was not talking of just romance and sex.

My major concern was dat of insult to human beings, their tribes, religion and political affiliations. I also talked of disparity in treatments of people's posts. I said some people will be banned for posting same thing someone else posted and was celebrated even by the same Mod that banned the other member. This makes it obvious that some tribes are not needed in the network. If there are rules, enforce it fairly.

These are the issues I want corrected. Thanks.

I'm surprised to learn that people are still being abused on Nairaland without repercussions. You should report these rulebreakers by clicking the report button on their posts. Mynd44, what's your take on this? Are we failing to enforce rule 2 once again? I hope not.
The issue is that some of the Mods seem to be enjoying the "rude jokes". They should realize that this is someone's business, I mean the Nairaland Network and it should not be toyed with. Or should i say that Mr. Seun himself is too busy that he has failed to monitor his business or the activities of those he trusted this business into their hands. Well, all we require is a serene network environment where we can all come and learn, relax and have a healthy fun.

I remember those days you only get internet access from cyber cafe. Those days we will go to a cafe spend hours just to be in Nairaland. It was like dat because u get well entertained by great posts, comments and arguments. If it used to be like it is today, who will go to a cafe, buy airtime, spend hours only to be insulted. We deserve better treatment for our hard earned data bundle and time.

Nairaland General › An Open Letter To Mr. Seun by Psoul(op): 10:12am On Apr 13, 2016
Nairaland is one of the leading social networks in Nigeria. It has brought many people, both within and outside the country together. It is a very educative and informative medium.

I can recall with sweet nostalgia those sweet good old days that I joined this network after been a guest reader for about a year. Those days Nairaland gives one a kind of joy that one cannot explain once you enter any of the forums. Those were the days every post is discussed, argued and deliberated with high sense of intelligence and with high degree of respect to people’s opinion. Those day when diction (choice of words) were observed.

It pain me so hard how this sweet network is fast losing what it was known for all these years and the crew members seem to be enjoying it. The influx of kids and touts into the network is killing it.

The network has been so much divided by tribe, religion and politics. Am not saying that one should not have where one’s political or religious interest hinges. In as much as we all have different political and religious affiliations, we still need to respect other people’s opinion.

In these days Nairaland, you hardly see any post that goes down without people abusing one tribe, religion or political party with harsh and vulgar words. From the look of things, it seem that even the Admin crew support/favour some groups more that others. Some people have been indefinitely banned for writing same thing someone else wrote and was commended. Some posts from a group not in good book of an Admin crew was never allowed to see the light of the day, while same post from the Touch-Not-Group made a frontpage. This is not how this network operates before. There should be a level playground for all irrespective of your tribe.

I belive Nairaland want to keep its members. You cant do it by allowing everything to just go like that. Some bad eggs need to be shown the back door. Not doing this wont get you more traffic rather you may start seeing most of your good members leaving the network. When 2go came, it was embraced by many until many small boys started flooding it and started doing some stupid things, the big boys and decent ones left, you know the fate of 2go today. Same happened to Badoo.

I know so many people will still abuse me here with their comments, but I have learned to develop thick skin. To you Mr. Seun, you are really doing a very great job, but a lot need to be done to keep this fire burning longer.

From a concerned Nairalander.

Romance › Re: Any Guy Who Doesn't Have A House And A Car Should Not Get Married Or Even Date! by Psoul(m): 8:40am On Mar 21, 2016
Vinshu:
In order to reduce the level of poverty amongst homes, in my opinion I think a man who has not enough money to buy a house of his own not rent at least a 3 bed room flat and a car to move him and his family around should not get married.

When he gets married in his low credit, the family tends to suffer. The probability that he will get rich is actually 0.5 not up to 1 because Sundry expenses will now become expenses when married. Things he could ignore when single will now be important.

When children arrive, the probability of getting rich falls to an all time low of 0.2. Have you observed that most men have a higher credit score when single? If you have $500 at the end of every week when single if your job/income doesn't change or upgrade when you get married your $500 falls to $200 because you no longer feed yourself but feed a woman and probably a child.

When the child grows older school fees will set in. And other bad debts will be incured .

Don't get me wrong, I ain't saying he will never make it but in the mean time, why bring a child to the world to suffer? Even if it's for 6 years before you make it? Why take a woman from her father's comfy house to hardship in the name of marriage?

I advice ladies never to get married no matter how cool a guy is unless he is proven to be able to cater for your needs and that of your children financially in all ramifications both expenses and sundry expenses.

It doesn't make any sense, what you enjoy when single as a lady why stop enjoying it because your husband has no money or your money now goes to supporting him?

They say women ain't equal to men. Ok let the men be rich and rich enough to take care of their wives 101% before getting married. In fact, studies show most men marry for sex.
Am not surprised that this is coming from a woman. The way they reason is very shallow. They are too materialistic. They fail to realize that a man with a good future, great dream with good drive and action can break even a fallow ground.

This kind of idea is what has kept so many girls from getting married until they become so old that they start going to prayer houses and start disturbing God for any kind of man.

OP, let me give u instance with myself, I saw my wife when i had virtually nothing. I was in a job that was not paying me well. When i planed going to see my inlaw for collection of list, i lost my job but i kept telling my wife that we can still make it. Most times, she got discouraged and wanted to walk out of the relationship.

What i always tell her was, never write of an educated person, his opportunity can come at any time. I also used to tell her that i am not lazy. When I was able to make her see where i was going, she gave me all her support. She is a great woman and I love her so much for that. I was able to start a one-computer biz centre where i type, print and make photocopies for pple until my opportunity came. Now i have a good job. I have built my own house, have a sleek car, two beautiful kids and other dependents. Nice household items, feed well and everyone is happy.

If you have a guy that has a dream and pursuing it, girls, u can marry such a man and give her your support.

Family › Husband Demands Refund Of N486,000 Wedding Expenses From His Wife. by Psoul(op): 10:00pm On Mar 15, 2016
A 40-year-old businessman, Modibo Surajo, on Tuesday pleaded with a Grade 1 Area Court, Gudu, Abuja, to compel his wife, Mariam to refund N486, 000 expenses he incurred during their wedding.

Surajo told the court that he had to make the demand because his wife had refused to stay in her matrimonial home.

The petitioner, a resident of Durumi in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), accused his wife of frequently leaving their matrimonial home since they got married in 2011.

He said his marriage to the respondent produced a son but the respondent recently fled to Kaduna State to stay with her Uncle, Ismaila Alhiru.

According to him, the respondent has never stayed for three whole months in his house without running away since they got married.

He said the respondent insisted that he should get another apartment for her and should divorce his first wife before she could stay married to him, which he said, he would not do.

“You can get married to a woman from the city and she would stay with her husband in the village peacefully, so if she is no longer interested in the marriage I want her to refund N140, 000 which I spent on the wedding.

“She should also refund the N20,000 I paid as her dowry, I gave her friends N25,000, gave her a gift of N20,000, transportation to Niger Republic and also from Kaduna to Abuja at N120, 000.

“I hired two cars at N16,000, Asoebi at N75, 000, I sent two people to her at N30, 000 and gave her father N150, 000 which is a total of N486, 000, I want her to refund all these money,’’ he said.

In her response, Mariam said she did not ask Surajo to divorce his wife, but only asked him to get another apartment for her as the petitioner’s wife made the matrimonial home unbearable.

“I did not tell the plaintiff that I am no longer interested in our marriage, I left the house because his wife disturbs me with trouble and I do not know anybody in Abuja that was why I went to Kaduna State where my uncle resides.

“It is left for the petitioner to choose between getting an apartment for me or me not returning to the house as I am suffering,” she said.

The Presiding judge, Alhaji Imam Isah, adjourned the case till April 7 for further hearing.

Crime › Thieves Suck Excreta From A Tour Bus During Fuel Siphoning Attempt by Psoul(op): 9:44pm On Mar 15, 2016
Some thieves in Australia got more than they bargained for after they tried siphoning fuel from a tour bus but ended up with excreta.

According to Laverton Police Sen. Sgt Heath Soutar, the thieves were attempting to siphon gas from the tour bus that was visiting the area.

The bus was parked overnight so the thieves attempted to steal fuel from it. During the theft, they mistakenly accessed the waste compartment of the vehicle instead of the fuel tank and ended up siphoning excreta.
The thieves abandoned their gear and ran after their attempt went south.

The discarded cap from the waste tank was found on the floor next to the bus and the fuel tank was still full.
Police concluded that the thieves escaped after they were left with a bad taste in their mouths.
