Actually that is in many parts of the bible. That was jewish (and by procy, middle eastern) culture, which a lot of people have imported into their "versions" of christianity. That's why some people say women must never be pastors.
i dont think that was necessarily a part of jewish culture. Old testament scriptures indicate several women played roles as prophetesses.

News just reaching our newsroom indicates that a prominent part of the NINs political movement, the "i love Nigeria" brigade has made the necessary arrangements to challenge their visa rejection status at various foreign embassies.
It is alleged that they were denied visa on the grounds that they were found ineligible to pack foreign shit.

@ PTH, with all due respect, don't call people immature because that's just plain disrespectful. That people's opinions differ from yours doesn't give you a leverage over them. You give the impression of a know-it-all. Just speaking my mind dude, no insults intended.

lol no be armchair Chxta take write that nonsense about windmills and attitude? Talk of hypocrisy.

Serious nations talk about "green energy" and wind farms AS AN ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCE in terms of conservation and as a tool to reduce global warming NOT AS AN EXCUSE FOR GOVERNMENT INEPTITUDE!

The countries talking about green energy have the largest nuclear power plants in the world and are the world's largest consumers of fossil fuel energy and you are here trumpeting that we who cant even get a simple dam running should join them to build wind mills. What energy are we conserving? The one we cant even harness at all?

This people just dey make me laugh till belle pain me.

thank you McKren! I'm sick to my stomach seeing ignorant people continue to defend the indefensible! And they tell us we are wallowing in ignorance when they can't even see their noses. Building windmills my foot! South Africa has nuclear power plants and someone is telling us to go build personal windmills in the yr 2007. Maybe Michelin tyres should have built windmills to keep their Port Harcourt plant open.

We generate billions of dollars in oil revenue yearly and someone says we should go build windmills. Why dont we just do away with government in the first place?

u said that i don't have an opinion on this issue. that is another place that u f-ed up very well. an opinion doesnt have to be an original thougt. it can be influenced by what another person said or wrote. in this case my opinion is influenced by what chxta wrote. your problem is that u are too arrogant to accept it even when you're wrong.
not really dear, the problem is you and Chxta have already decided in our minds on this issue, posting it here was not about getting diverse comments but about shoving your myopic and ill-conceived idea down our throats. When we refute it you quickly hide under the "you are arrogant" banner. Carry go.
Maybe you need to point out where i'm wrong rather than trumpeting "you are wrong" everywhere simply because Chxta has made a point that does not hold water.

Sijien:
sorry bro it is u that keeps twisting d point here to make a point that goes no where.
The earlier comment was not directed to you so this answer makes no sense.

Sijien:
in germany which ave been to most people build their houses and furniture by themselves. if soemthing breaks down in the house u don't see people rushing 2 look for d nearest carpenter or plumber or electrician. in naija if no body comes to work it it will remain like that. true or false?
You sit back and read this totally meaningless comment of yours. How many Nigerians sit down relying on government to build their houses, beds, stools and shelves for them? If anything Nigerians are some of the most resourceful people on earth when it comes to improvising. Many people drive cars in Nigeria that would have been in scrapyards in Germany more than 20yrs ago, my brothers and i did most of the minor carpentry work in our house, you only call the plumber when the job is completely beyond you. What really is the essence of this nonsense? And when we refute this you claim we are wrong and being arrogant! What a load of tripe!

Sijien:
go back and read what afam wrote. he didnt say everybody must buy a generator. maybe u don't want 2 see his point but d point is this if u try 2 hold d government and they are not coming will u throw your hands up and say okay since i don't have light let me live in darkness? that is what our people r so good at doing.
Here is why this makes very little sense. Chxta lives in the UK, how many people has he seen using generators? The British hold their government to ransom, why is it a crime if we did the same to ours?
Tell me how can you develop when companies run on generators? How many people can afford to buy fuel everyday? Afam makes the point that he uses gen sets everyday for at least 2 hrs, what productive and prosperous nation have you seen where the entire citizenry depend on generators?

Sijien:
we probably have d worst attitude in d world. u yourself has said it so many times that the avergae naija is selfish. what is worst than that one? we are not our brothers keepers and tat why naija is where it is.
If you want to see selfish people please come to the US. Why is our attitude the worst in the world and how did we get there? You make ridiculous statements THAT HAVE NO PROOF and yet accuse us of arrogance and claim we are wrong?

Sijien:
so you now want to say that turkey is a cobbled together nation? there are scots in scotland who want to form their own nation why can't they leave? in the article chxta provided a link 2 all the seperate militias in india. were they not cobbled together? people like u just like to emphasise on our differences as a negative when it can be positive.
Pleae emphasise JUST ONE area where contraption called a nation has been positive. Chxta can provide the details of all the terrorists in Cambodia it wont make any difference as long as Nigeria's constitution continues to habour failures like quota system and federal character.

Sijien:
u that is always complaining what r u doing in america? r u american. it was this kind of thing that he talked about in one of his articles. instead of attacking the points you're always attacking d personality. ono is d most guilty person of this but you're not innocent. if he is in london so what? does it mean he can develop naija from there? does being soemwhere else remove his nigerianness? you're just a disgrace.
And you cry that others are attacking personalities and you blame Ono as being the worst? I cant see what Ono said that could be any worse than this expression of verbal diarrhoea. No one is saying Chxta should not go to London, he should not go and sit tight there telling us to build personal windmills to power our homes instead of waiting for government while he enjoys the benefits of living in a society where they hold their government accountable.

PoliticsRe: Wallowing In Ignorance by PTH(m): 7:10pm On Aug 17, 2007
Afam, as usual you have completely twisted every single post you reference in order to make a point that really goes no where.

Afam:
While accusing Chtxa of intolerance many that have criticized him on this thread are equally guilty of the same intolerance.
No one has accused Chxta of intolerance. There is nothing in his write up to suggest such.

Afam:
I share Chxta's views as regards our attitude as a people. The government is not the building we see, it is made up of people, Nigerians just like the younger generation will take over from the people there today sometime in the future.
The government is the people, but the people elect a certain minority to represent their views. What attitudes do we have that is radically different from those of South Africans or Germans?

Afam:
On government's role

If the government refuses to provide power for me the way it should what options do I have? Stay without power or look for ways to generate one? Today, in Nigeria I use steady power whether in the office or at home and I do not use a generator in the office but have one at home that I may use for a couple of hours once in 1 or 2 weeks.

With this I am more productive, don't waste money on fuel so that means I can channel the money into other useful things.
This is counter productive, You can never develop as a nation if we refuse to hold our government accountable. How many of the 150m Nigerians can afford a generator to power their ramshackle homes? How many serious nations have their large industries running on generators?

Afam:
In the US is every home connected to the grid? Certainly no.
we can conveniently argue that at least 97% of homes are connected to the national grid. No company in America is run on generators!

Afam:
Job creation

Is it the duty of government to provide jobs for the masses? In my opinion no but it should provide an enabling environment for business to strive.
You are right.

Afam:
Again, in the US how many people work for the government? What percentage?
Not that many but again we are not asking that the government provide jobs for all, all we want is that they provide an enabling environment just like the US does. Make the environment conducive for industries to thrive and government would have solved job problems.

Afam:
Citing Chxta's example with the elevator, attitude to life made him take time to contact the people responsible. If he chose to ignore the issue (like most of us will in Nigeria) the elevator may not be repaired on time and that's it.
again it is erroneous to merely equate nigeria's problems to that of just attitude. We dont have the worst attitude in the world, why are we so blessed and yet so poor?

Afam:
While the likes of Nigeria, Iraq, Pakistan are referenced to show that colonies don't make progress what about Malaysia or Philipines, India, Australia (even with the massacre of the aborigines before claiming their lands)?
No, read my post again, i did not talk of "colonisation" as the bane of those countries BUT the cobbling together of incompatible peoples to form a nation.
Nigeria - Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo hence our problems till tomorrow.
Iraq - Kurds, sunnis, shiites - are we surprised it is a theater of war today? There are kurds in Turkey who are minorities, why were they not naturally allowed to form a separate nation with their kurdish brothers in Iraq?

Afam:
Why will someone accuse Chxta of hypocrisy simply because he is outside Nigeria? But we are being reminded that all Nigerians whether outside or within have the rights to discuss Nigeria and its problems.
Chxta says our problems are all down to "Attitude". The right "Attitude" to develop Nigeria then should not be running to London only to start telling the rest of us to change our attitudes and build private windmills to power our homes while he enjoys the benefit of an accountable government.
Christianity EtcRe: Men And Women Don't Pray Together In The Mosque. Why? by PTH(m): 5:26pm On Aug 17, 2007
doyenn:
it's better if we ask questions on what we're confused about rather than making mockery of it. In religious, absolute concentration is very important especially during worshipping,we must not look sideways when we're having our solat prayer in the mosque.Once our attention has been diverted to somewhere else then that particular prayer has been affected because our mind has deviated from God at that time.In order to avoid all this, women are not allowed to mix up with men because women can easily divert our attention or even cause confusion in our thinking at that time and that would spoil that particular prayer for us.

That's that but can you ask God why Adam have to eat that forbidden fruit,i hope you know it's woman who manioulated his thinking and get him confused. At that time, this woman is pure and has never see anything unpure things in her life because she's just been created. With what the world is turning to now,a woman can make the most faithful man on the planet commit the badess sins so it's advisable to let them be at a separate place.
doyenn, what if a fire ant bites u in the groin? Is allah so difficult that he will cancel that prayer because you had to scratch urself?

Leave the issue of adam and the forbidden fruit alone, its not in ur quran, has nothing to do with islam and is just another attempt to import christianity into islam. The story is in the bible and yet nowhere there do you hear of women being relegated to the background because of the sin of Eve.

PTH

you sound like davidylan or do you change your name because you've been banned.

The word faith is what is getting you confused now.Firstly, let me tell you now that your bible is just a fraction of the holy Q'uran. It's a single verse of the q'uran that reveals the whole history of Jesus christ. So I don't know if you've ever heard of the 5 pillars of Islam and their meaning. The pillars illustrate the basic things required from a believer and not you.The post is meant for muslims to share what they know about it so that we can learn from one another. It's not for you to argue about because you don't know what the word faith even mean if i ask you.
How silly! One single verse of the quran tells the complete 33 yr history of Jesus Christ that required Mathew, Mark, Luke, John and Acts to record in the bible? Even they claimed that they could only record a tiny fraction!

Why does the muslim always struggle so desperately to fit in Jesus into their crooked narration of lies and half truths?

Faith in islamic terms is nothing but a red herrign thrown around here and there to make it sound like christianity.

If you want the complete christian definition of faith - look no further than Hebrews 11

@ Imani
lol, it is only in Nigeria that i hear the absurdity that the nation does not owe its citizens anything. The same citizens who pay taxes to the government?
Of what use is a nation when it cannot protect its citizens and does not "owe" them anything?
Even foreign countries treat illegal aliens far better than Nigeria treats its citizens and we are here helping to perpetuate the aberation that Nigerian governments abdicate their civic responsibility.

- Nigerian workers have a poor work ethic? Could it be because the harder they work the smaller pay they get? Some that are unlucky go months without pay and you expect them to put in the same amount of work as the average English man? We had a far better work ethic before 1979, Nigerians in foreign countries are largely hardworking so we can safely conclude that Nigerians are not lazy.

Would you work 16 hr shifts if you get payed just enough to feed for 2 days while your boss who does no stroke of work has bank accounts in Switzerland? Enough of just blaming the people!! We have been made scapegoats for irresponsible leadership for too long!
