Even Lagos state which they are saying can survive is scratching the surface in terms of the revenue it could generate. Many Lagos residents are successfully evading taxes or paying fees or levies to the wrong people (e.g. Touts). True fiscal federalism must be unleashed in order for all parts of Nigeria to attain their potentials. |
juman: The governor's statement is not about loyal or not loyal, he said his own view and understanding from his experience about nigeria.Look at his choice of words. In substance, what's the difference between his words and what a politician in the opposition camp would say? “The National conference to me is a big joke, waste of time and a distraction to Goodluck Jonathan. I’m skeptical about it. It will not achieve anything. |
I've always had this feeling that it's not all the SS and SE Guvs that are really loyal to Jonathan. That of Amaechi happened very quickly but I'm also suspecting Akpabio. The role he reportedly played before the NGF was divided is suspect. Apart from Seriake, Obi, Orji and possibly Imoke, the rest of them (Chime, Elechi, Uduaghan) appear lukewarm. Of course, Oshiomhole, Rochas and Amaechi are not with him politically. @topic, what Pa Elechi said does not really come as a surprise as many people are also sceptical about the timing of the Conference and the fact that it could be used as a ploy to postpone the 2015 elections. Ekweremadu has already started to fly the kite. The surprise is that, coming from a zone admitted as Jonathan's 'pillar of support', the statement which is a blow to the Conference may have happened in Elechi's unguarded moment. The question now is: how many more of Jonathan's 'loyal' governors harbour thoughts such as Elechi's? |
What a thread...what a promise. Another unfufilled promise by the government. Is anyone surprised that the people have generally lost confidence in government? Imagine if any individual or business had relied on the empty promise to make investment decisions! The funny thing is that the people who made the promise won't consider it necessary to offer explanations or apologize for the broken promise. Worse still, no one gets queried for making such a bogus statement to the people on behalf of government. The people who made the promise should be ashamed of themselves. The posters who also beat their chest on this thread, even after some people expressed sceptism, in support of the hollow promise should also be ashamed of themselves. |
atlwireles: We don't see a problem, give us 50% resource control and that problem is gone for ever. By the way, that N45B IGR is 90% payee tax. With the civil service workforce a major contributor.I support resource control but oil as an extractive resource does not really indicate hardwork and ingenuity. Revenue from such activities should be used to fund capital projects and not consumption activities. Ideally, salaries should be fully funded from taxes of all citizens with something left for capital projects. Oil revenue aside, the present structure of Delta is not sustainable. Something must be done to address it. |
atlwireles: What do you mean by why? Delta State has a very high service civil workforce. Simply because Uduaghan turned the civil service into a jobs program. I don't understand your beef.Delta has a revenue of N45.5 billion and pays salaries that's almost twice as that - N85.2 billion! This simply means Delta cannot afford the 'high service civil workforce' (I don't know the meaning of this) either in terms of their headcount or salary range or both. This also means the productivity per head (civil servant) in Delta is much lower than that of Lagos. There's a major problem here. |
kel4soft: The Governor took over the payment of primary schools from the Local Govt after building those model schools. eGuerrilla: That's an interesting revelation you have up there.Your explanations make sense but there's still a problem. The (1)many (2) highly-paid teachers must be teaching some pupils. Are the parents of those pupils paying some form of tax to the state government? I doubt it. When the government renders any form of service, it must look for a way to recover the cost from the people, directly or indirectly. If it fails to do that it means the service is unsustainable. This is what I think is the problem in Rivers. Remove the receipts from oil money or federal revenue and Rivers would be in financial problem. |
click2cbn: most of d population(esp non lagosians) don't work in LASG MDAs!But the MDAs serve the higher population of Lagos. Isn't it? |
Garri the 1st: Why is the Wage bill of Rivers State higher than that of Lagos State which is far more populated??Something is terribly wrong with Rivers' figures except this statistics is incorrect. Rivers' figures waves a red flag. How can the civil service of Rivers be more expensive to run than that of Lagos? |
chukwudi44: What happens if the niger-delta states decides to control their resources? That's the best thing that can happen to Nigeria. |
At N48b, the wage bill of Bayelsa is scary. It's close to that of Oyo at N49b and higher than that of Edo at N28b, Cross River at N22b and Kano at N36b! Kogi at N44b is also not far from Oyo at N49b. Something is wrong with Bayelsa and Rivers' wage bills although the wage bills of all the states are generally high. |
Goddex: Shut your stinking mouth! You may go and die! Your beloved Aregbesola awarded a multi billion naira laptop contract to his son and most of you were coming out here to defend it.Are you mad? Have you gone insane? You must have just had lobotomy performed on you. It's obvious you're operating without a brain. Why can't you write your sponsored rubbish and move on? Why must you quote me and write insults? Are you Akpabio? Are you Jonathan? Are you Kwakwanso? Are you Ajimobi? Are you Obasanjo? Is there water all round any state in Nigeria? Is there any state in Nigeria where resources are not being mismanaged? You are one of the problems in Nigeria that must be fumigated and killed off! Buffoon, never in your life use those leprous hands of yours to type a reply to me again. If you're not principled, do you think everyone else is like your miserable, bought soul? Do you think every other person is after dirty money and filthy lucre? May all the evils you do be repaid to you in full and with compound interest! I predicted that the enemies of the people would come here and in less than 3 minutes you shamelessly landed with your soul-less body and a hardened, merciless heart. May the suffering of the masses, due to the purchased support you give to wicked politicians, come back to you in due course! May all this come to you speedily and others like you who support APC or APGA or Labour or PDP for money and by so doing let the ordinary people suffer! I don't give a damn about Aregbesola or APC or PDP you fooooooooooooool! I am only interested in good governance which deranged and perverted persons like your idiotic self are derailing. Get lost and die! It IS in the interest of the common good for your likes to die unsung! Die traitor! Die, for you are a bundle of treachery to the masses! Cretin! Your evil type is lucky because the Nigerian people are generally apathetic and enduring! |
Nigeria! A country where everything happens and nothing happens! I blame the docile people more than the wicked thieving leaders. Some of those people will soon be here to support the Governor or murky the waters. They will fault the source and blame the opposition. Nigeria! A country that has no drinking water but which its leaders: 1. Give out free cash to private universities. 2. Give out cars to youths and traditional rulers. 3. Pay the pension of old British colonial masters. 4. Pay out cash to politicians to have lunch with. 5. Pay out millions to militants who in turn build universities and private jets. 6. Budget for animals and additional jets. 7. Are unable to apprehend oil thieves and other thieves. 8. Build schools in other countries. How many person go count sef? And the suffering of the people continues. |
agbameta: You did already and you are still crying..Free this guy na in the spirit of the season. ![]() |
Jman06: lmao. You think i can ever get mad at any crap people write on NL? No way! Some people get paid to write those things you call crap o. Have you heard of Pay Per Post (PPP)? Or Pay Per Page (PPP)? Oops, PPP again? I'm not talking about Julius Berger's PPP o except theirs is interpreted as 'Pay Per Pass' on the Second Niger Bridge. Enjoy yourself Jman06 and unleash your potentials. |
I can only sigh... A banana is getting spoilt and they say it's ripening... |
godjohnson: The kind demons weh full dat one body no b small tinAnything that some of you don't understand is ascribed to demons. Why not humbly state that you don't understand it? Jesus that you venerate today was once harshly and fiercely criticized. |
Jman06: You can keep your advice to yourself or betterstill direct it to Ilugunboy. This is a social networking site where people pay less attention to English skills. If we are to meet in an essay-writing competition, then we 'd know who is who. Mind you, i never said i knew it all, rather your Ilugunboy did.I am happy to see your marked improvement. Welldone and keep it up. ![]() I also wish you well in other things. But, erm, you took my advice despite saying I should keep it to myself...don't be an ingrate o. Saying thank you won't hurt you now, abi? |
joaquin64: I realize he never really answers the question. Then again, we can all guess why and it is no fault of his/hers either. It really can NEVER be that simple when it comes down to matters of faith and fact...This is why nobody should beat his/her chest and declare that his own perspective of God is the only one or the correct one. There are as many perspectives of God as there are human beings. The subject of God fascinates me and sometimes, I am delighted to exchange ideas on with people on some things that they say when they think/claim they are praising God but are actually belittling Him. |
Validated: Do you need to be told that you must praise God? Do you need to be told that God is all knowing, all present? Can do all things? Can come as a human? Can create and bring the dead to life. He is God and GOD DESERVES MY PRAISE and WORSHIP!Alas, you did not answer any of my questions. I believe in God and I am not against him but you guys muddle up things too much, speak from all sides of the mouth, and turn simple things to complex issues. Why should it be a surprise to me that God created this planet? Is that not contradictory? It's almost like venerating you for drinking a glass of water. God is God. Simple. No one truly understands Him and you should not supplant the lack of understanding with illogical and contradictory teachings. |
Jman06: lolz @you for saying that my written English is 'awful'... Why not just admit that your brain is too dumb to comprehend my write ups? I am not bragging but you can never be a match to me when it comes to written or oral English. This is a piece of advice which you are free to take or reject. You should work on the use of punctuation marks, paragraphing, and small/capital letters before you call out Ilugunboy for a match. There are other things you need to work on but start from those. NB: No one is perfect ... |
Azunwena: she is a very slim girl and she thought that the small protruding tummy was just an evidence of good living with herSo a protruding tummy is an evidence of good living? Naija! |
redsun: Statements like this by africans are obvious confession of their inferiority, their needlessness to accept change, free and believe in themselves. In terms of religion, Africans are the most confused set of people on this planet. |
Validated: The meaning of the term “fullness of the Godhead” is that Jesus was fully God on earth just as His Father is fully in heaven. The point made in this Scripture is that Jesus was 100% God in the flesh. So this term is proving He is the second person of the Tri-unity, of the Godhead. This nature of God is shared among three and no more.1. If, according to you, Jesus was 100% God in the flesh and was fully God on earth, why should he be praised or venerated for walking on water? Validated: I hope this helps. If you need more, please attend the Believers Class of RCCG.2. My question is simple enough and I really don't know why you're referring me to any class. Why should I praise you, for example, for being able to close your eyes and sleep or eat? Is it not the nature of men to sleep or eat? These are ordinary acts of human beings. My question is: why should I be awed by the fact that Jesus (whom you said was 100% God) walked on water? Shouldn't that be an ordinary event as far as a God is concerned? Why should it be a big deal that Jesus/God woke up a dead body? Was that not what Jesus/God was supposed to do? If you say I should be surprised then you cannot again say Jesus was God or God performed the miracle. If you say an ordinary man performed the miracle then you should also commend Cris Angel or Dynamo did. Again, this would also mean that Jesus was not God. |
Jman06: Southeasterners are supporting GEJ not for selfish interests but for the fact that his administration is transforming every part of Nigeria not just southeast. It might interest you to know that apart from the SNB, Jonathan's administration has successfully reconstructed the enugu/ph express way which used to be a death trap, upgraded Akanu Ibiam airport in Enugu to international standard, revamped ph/maiduguri railline cutting across the southeast, built independent power plants to boost power supply in the east;i have enjoyed steady power supply since i came home for xmas, among other projects which the FG is executing in the southeast. From the tune of your post, i knew it was meant to destroy the overwhelming support which the Jonathan's administration has enjoyed from the south east, but be warned that southeasterners are smarter than you can ever be,and so would not be misguided by posts like yours. While I won't comment on the veracity of the other parts of your post but the highlighted part is a lie. There is no airport in Nigeria that is up to international standard. And if that one is a lie, how reliable are the other parts of your post? |
Sunglow: Its called a miracle because it happened in the physical world,in the spirit world its a normal way of life.Well, it may be called a miracle in the physical world but why make a big deal out of it when it was done in the physical world by God/Jesus? What would have been your reaction then if it was done in the physical world by an ordinary man? Honestly, religion is amazing! |
Super1759: Smh, my people perish for lack of wisdomSMH, my people perish because of utter confusion. You're now saying that Jesus was 'a mere man like you and I'? How do you reconcile this to the saying that he is/was God? ![]() I would agree with the miracle if you clearly say he was/is not God. But how can he be God and at the same time be applauded for ability to do miracles? ![]() |
bigfree: hahahaha. This man think say him and Jesus na mate. He is the son of God and you are the son of who? satellitedaisy: Uwa mmebi thinz, chicken brain indeed. You wan challenge Jesus abi? But, really, how is it a miracle that Jesus walked on water? According to what you guys say, Jesus is God, right? God created everything including water, right? This means Jesus/God walked on something he created, right? Why should we applaud Jesus for this feat? Why should we say it's a miracle because he used what he created the way he wanted? ![]() |
The wanton looting and grossly irresponsible mismanagement of resources by government has become so regular that additional ones no longer come as a surprise. What comes as a surprise is that the people that are said to be suffering are so docile, apathetic, nonchallant, and in some cases 'happy' in spite of the mind-boggling sleaze and wicked looting by those in power. What comes as a surprise is that even so-called educated citizens are still defending the government that's unleashing such wickedness and inhuman treatment on them. Just wait for a few days, no, minutes, and you'll see some of them here to attack this thread or its creator; or the source and/or the author of the article, using all manner of their usual tricks - diversion, distraction, evading the issue, character assassination, etc This is Nigeria where there is no state that can boast of potable water all over the state! Honestly, I tire! |
I am laughing. Why am I laughing? Because I am not supposed to cry. -Adapted from Fela Anikulapo-Kuti |
But when is government going to announce Sanusi's succesor? It's nice for the two of them to work together for at least 3 months. One thing is also clear - Sanusi has stirred the hornet's nest. He should expect them to come after him later. Like I have said before on this forum, his two weaknesses (mentioned in the opening post) may turn out to be his albatross. |
^^^ The OP did not say that Kano is running a balanced budget. |
