collynzo2: What investigations? The investigations have been done and dusted. He posted a fake IP address and a fake e-mail screen shot.

You may have concluded investigations in your own way but can you mete out any punishment to him?

The person(s) or moderators that will do that must also be as convinced as you are.

For now, he's at best a 'suspect' and it's wrong to label him a 'criminal'.

This is why police won't even call someone caught at the scene of a bank robbery an armed robber; they would only call him a suspect, provide their facts and allow an independent body to make conclusions and mete out punishment.

Jungle justice is not allowed in criminal matters in a civilized world.

collynzo2: Moderators, this cramjones guy www.nairaland.com/cramjones is shamelessly breaking rules 8 & 9 on this forum.
He claimed he was sent a threat letter from a Nairalander and backed it up with false information.
Firstly he posted a screen shot of the mail supposedly sent to him claiming to have blocked his e-mail address whereas he blocked the sender's address, does it mean he was the sender?
Secondly he gave out a US/Canada IP address claiming it originated from Lagos according to his useless experts.
You should do something about this criminal for the sake of Nairaland's integrity.
www.nairaland.com/1577126/cramjones-threatened-via-email-over/3#20616607

You've also broken the simple rule in law by declaring conclusively that the person you're reporting is a 'criminal'. That simple rule is that an accused is deemed innocent until proven guilty.

You cannot be a plaintiff and the judge in your own case.

You've done a very good thing by reporting him but you were wrong in concluding that he lied and he's a criminal. These are very strong choice of words.

You should leave the matter for investigation. If he's found wanting, many unbiased fellows here will also condemn him and push for a deletion of such a handle that could set a very dangerous precedent.

Politics / Re: Plateau Bans Street Begging by Pukkah: 10:52am On Jan 02, 2014
Exposing of sick persons to beg for money is common in many parts of the country.
It is distateful, dehumanizing and not right.

Begging on the streets also disrupts traffic flow and compromises safety on the roads.

This is a good one from the Plateau state government which should be emulated by other states.

But that's just one side of the story.

What's the various state and federal governments doing to ameliorate the plight of unemployed, poverty-stricken and sick people in the polity?

Why can't cancer treatment, for example, be government-sponsored? Why can't diabetes treatment be subsidized? Why can't the Health Insurance scheme be more widespread beyond the public sector and few people in the private sector?

What's the FG doing to secure our borders and register Nigerians so as to prevent influx of foreigners from countries like Niger and Chad?

What's the government doing to make people on the streets feel the direct impact of the much-vaunted economic growth figures?

More than the economic growth figures that are bandied by Okonjo-Iweala on PowerPoint slides, some of the real indicators of growth and development is the number of people begging/hawking or mad people on the streets

Honestly, there's a dearth of sound leadership in Nigeria.

How can a President open the New Year with this kind of sad, depressing and hollow talk?

President Jonathan won't kill someone with laughter in this New Year.

He has followed up the incoherent message he delivered at the Christmas service with this one.

Haha! Doesn't he have honest advisers that can tell him to stop talking without preparation? Since communication is his clear failing, why can't he read prepared speeches? Or is he the one that doesn't take to such obvious and expedient advice?

He sounds so pedestrian each time he talks and passes across unbelievable messages that cast the entire country in poor light. Why do some people get annoyed that he's not generally respected by his peers and fellow citizens?

How can the President and Commander in Chief say that kidnapping and insurgency are our own 'fair share' of the global crisis? Does he know the implications of this?

Must we have such a 'fair share'? Did ALL countries of the world have such 'fair share'?

Na wa for Jonathan Goodluck (PhD) o!

Politics / Religious Insurgency, Kidnapping, Our Share Of Global Crises – Jonathan by Pukkah: 10:09am On Jan 02, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan has described the activities of Boko Haram in the North and kidnappers in the South as Nigeria’s fair share of worldwide security challenges.

He also said some of the security challenges facing the country, started at a time the nation’s security architecture was not properly designed  to combat them.
Jonathan stated this at a New Year service at the Catholic Church’s Pro-Cathedral of Our Lady Queen of Nigeria, Garki in Abuja, on Tuesday.

“Some of these challenges we have been seeing came at a point that our security architecture was not properly designed for that,” he said during the service presided over by the Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan.

The President added, “The world as a whole is facing a lot of challenges  at the moment. If you turn  on your television  set, and if you turn the pages of  newspapers, you will always see breaking news.   Breaking news is  not positive news and  whenever I see  such , I know there is one crisis somewhere in the world.

“We are reading about crises everywhere. And our country too, unfortunately, we also have our own fair share of crises. There is the  issue of Boko Haram and the excesses of the militia groups in the, North;  and  kidnapping in southern Nigeria.

Jonathan, however, assured Nigerians that his government was committed to tackling the security challenges.
“We are improving  every day, we have our challenges but there is significant progress,” he said, adding   that  this  year would be better for Nigerians  than  2013.

He  said as President, he  would continue to  work harmoniously with the National Assembly and his appointees to provide Nigerians with good governance in 2014.

Oshiomhole's statement to the widow was in bad taste but it's preposterous and judgemental to say his accident happened because of the statement.

Only God knows everything.

The rate of accidents with government convoys is high.

The safety level and behaviour of motorists on most of our roads need improvement. The roads themselves need to be improved.

The widow in question would also not feel cool about your statement.

Sidomi: APC shud make Amaechi their flag bearer and Tambuwa his Vice. Amaechi rules well for 4yrs and then pass d baton to Tambs as per continuity. Sw and majority of northern states belongs to Apc. Getting votes from South south and South East is all Apc needs rite now. Any which way, GEJ is still clueless like PEJ. Tufiakwa!!!!!!!!

If Amaechi/Tambuwal slugs it out with Jonathan/Sambo, PDP is a goner. But it's an unlikely ticket.

The situation is also worsened by ethnic and religious considerations.

Yesterday I was at Mile 1 park, under the flyover you have the railway. Traders were selling on the lines. Nothing suggest work is about starting anywhere near PH. Except Monorail anyway.

I like the clarity and passion of your posts here.

This is real 'eye witness account' and is what more Nigerians should imbibe to show greater participation in government and put more pressure on their leaders.

It will also make the work of PPP (Pay Per Post or Pay Per Page) people more difficult and make them disappear altogether.

It's only a foolish man that needlessly makes enemies for himself.

Afam4eva: The east generally is not being covered by other parts of the country for some reason. .

For what reason is that?

The Afam! You want to come up with a conspiracy theory of media blackout against the region? grin

Why would the media, whether new or old, leave a state or region uncovered if something is happening there and the leader/governor is vibrant, dynamic and productive?

Can you give some examples of newsworthy events that have been left unreported in those states/region by the 'old' media but reported by the new media?

On another note, do you want to compare Martin Elechi to Sam Egwu or Orji Kalu to Theodore Orji in terms of charisma and candour?

Can you compare Donald Duke to Liyel Imoke?

Why is Akpabio better reported than Attah and Amaechi more reported than Odili? Aregbesola is better covered than Oyinlola and Oshiomole also better covered than Igbinedion.

It depends on the activities in the state and the passion, industry and creativity displayed by the governor.

No need for any conspiracy stuff Afam.

If there was, Martin Elechi won't have been widely reported last week on the statement he made of the National Conference.

You don't need to have a Masters to work in a bank or become its MD in Nigeria.

How did First Bank do well under the stewardship of someone that was the MD for about 3 months?

Gentleman, politics is a career for some people o. Na serious business.

Have you wondered why the widely loved Gani Fawehinmi failed in politics? Why is Atiku a more valued politician than the combination of Okotie, Utomi and Momodu?

As 'dirty' as politicians are, no President or Governor can make progress if he doesn't know how to handle them. That's the 'power game'.

Right now, it's the politicians that are 'showing Jonathan pepper'. And he can't fall back on the people because he's not been known for pragrmatic and beneficial governance.

The SE cannot do and will NOT do anything....they are AGIP....the govt in power will as usual invite Ohaneze and hand them their usual 30M...end of discussion.

I don't even want Jonathan to be impeached. The process is too rigorous and time consuming. It will rock the country so badly.

The political class out there is too selfish to manage the sensitive and intricate process in a mature manner.

You're right.

In my dreams...

I wish Jonathan could be his own man.

I wish he could understand the power game better.

I wish he could sufficiently weaken the likes of Obasanjo and cage other meddlesome irritants (without overtly breaching their human rights).

I wish he could break the age-old hegemony that has held down the country.

I wish he could be kinder to the people and be more deft with politicians.

I wish he could be harsher on corruption and kinder to good governance.

If he were, he would have courageously lobbied either Lamido Sule and/or Atiku to his side. You need an internal mad man in order to fight an external man. He could even promise Lamido the VP (drop docile Sambo) with an agreement to support Lamido in 2019.

If he were, he would have let Tukur go and replaced him with a better politician.

If he were, he would have let Oduah go (he could retain Oteh just to show he's in charge) and not to be quick with Alams pardon.

If he were, he would have possibly instigated a merger of other parties with PDP.

If he were, he would have reined in Asari Dokubo and other militants.

If he were, he would have made sacrifices in the running of the government and appeared more prudent and very frugal.

If he were, he would have used his 'chumminess' with David Mark to get the Senate to also make sacrifices on cost of running the place.

If he were, he would have secured funding for a new major project, eg 4th Mainland Bridge and shamed the opposition. He would have also opened up other places in the country.

If he were, he would not have been indulgently silent during the 'deportation' saga between Lagos and Anambra. He would have sued all the governors (including Fasola, Peter Obi etc) that were guilty of 'deportation'.

If he were, he would have not have been indulgent of clannish remarks from Peter Obi and the very divisive ones made by Arthur Eze in his presence.

But, that's just it - if he were...

I hope it's not too late for him to begin to take action.

The political signs are ominous.

I wish the people of Nigeria well.

ilugunboy: Any false move by GEJ now can definitely precipitate impeachment move against him.....

It's not looking nice for him......the north is now more determined to get him out.

He made two costly and strategic mistakes that exposed his gross naïveté

1: Treating the Yorubas as inconsequential

2: trying to bribe the north with heavy..juicy political appointments and other political patronage in the hope that they will soft-pedaled in their determination to produce the President

To me...he should have treated the whole South as his constituency and not just the SE & SS, by now the Yoruba media propaganda would be working full blast to support him against any Northern political maneuver.

His own choice of words and those of his aides too messed things up for him.

You've hit the nail on the head.

Jonathan has proved clearly that he's not a consummate politcian. Unluckily for him, there are no real politcians around him that are used to nights of long knives and fighting in the trenches. The only person that's close to that is Tony Anenih whose old and tired voice has been crowded out by the cacophonous voices of Akpabio, Wike, Tukur, etc.

Jonathan did not utilize the 'readiness' of Tinubu to work with him and he didn't press further, post 2011 election, to tip SW to his side (politically speaking).

Imagine if he had secured the political support of SW, whom some of us noted here as the bride to be courted, before the implosion in PDP. In addition, the SW has long been used to political fights and being in the opposition. You don't alienate such a region and other real politicians at the same time.

I was shocked the day Jonathan naively described SE as the pillar of his support and even more shocked as he sat through the campaign where Arthur Eze referred to APC as the party of Awolowo that killed their children.

I noted here that such statements would unite other parts of the country against him and tip neutrals and moderates to the other side.

For some odd reason, he has also inexplicably held on to Tukur whom he should have used as gambit to bargain for his political survival.

The creation of PDP Governors forum, ostensibly to break or weaken Amaechi or the Governors, was also petty and unnecessary.

I also wonder why he has not courted Atiku, who appears to be 'floating' and whom he could use against Obasanjo.

Sometimes I ask myself why Jonathan, the President of a secular country, must go everywhere with Oritsejafor. Oritsejafor has succeeded in creating enemies for Jonathan even within christendom, let alone the other side.

The handling of the ex-militants and their explosive statements has also been very poor. Ex-militants, like Oritsejafor and co, now own private jets and even universities!

The handling of corruption cases is another sore point. Why pardon Alamieyeseigha and stubbornly hold on to Odua, Oteh while turning a blind eye to what's going on in the Oil Ministry?

All these have frittered away the massive goodwill on which Jonathan rode to power in 2011.

The heat is on and as the flurry of activities increases, I hope he won't make more mistakes in a bid to fight back for the political survival of his life.

NB: This is a political analysis and does not mean I support the ways of Nigerian politicians.
