Heyyy, I'm much better, thanks. I will dodge the bullets now o , but I feel things should just end soon. Kate has been through more than any normal person can take. Are we being realistic or considerate here ? Man, it's too much for one person. We shouldn't drain the life out of the main character because we want to be selfish.

An end to a day of chaos and terror and the beginning of a new dawn -

GRACE




The day before , lives had been put at stake and bargained upon by the predators. The game had been in favour of the evil side but surprisingly for everyone, the tables were turned. Laura, who had gained consciousness in the morning by 5 am and had been calmed by nurses, and policemen who arrived later in the day , would never forget the incident that had almost led to her death on the day she first arrived back in Nigeria. She was hysterical about Damilola upon gaining consciousness, but had been assured by the doctor that her child was safe and she would see her in a few hours. The nurses claimed it was a sight worth seeing , the way she had eventually gained peace, the color flowing back into her face, upon her realization that her child remained safe.



In Abuja, a friend who had seen Damilola and Laura on the news concerning the poison attack on that same night , had rushed to Dare's place to tell him that his fiancée had been attacked by some ruffians , and rescued by the police, but also hospitalized. Upon rushing to his friend's place the sight of Dare , filthy, groggy from some drug and helplessly tied to a chair, and a dead Erika on the floor had compelled him to call the police, and before long the place was also awash with police, reporters and nosy people. Dare too had been hospitalized overnight.


So on the morning that Laura and Damilola woke up in the hospital, Dare had also woken up in a hospital also, just that it is one in another city. Police had examined the scene of Erika's death, they had started to screen through the contents of her phone after finding out early enough that she had died from multiple snake bites based on a thorough check by some certified doctors. Through her messages it was found out that she had planned to continue drugging Dare and have him transported to South Africa where he would either have to be forcefully married to her or be killed. The details of her plans were written in a digital diary on her phone when the security code had been broken.



An NGO had already collided heads with the police on the matter of the children held in custody. While Michael and Emmy might end up in juvenile correctional facilities, Belema, which the media had shocked the public with on account of her young age and condition , was to be placed legally under the care of some foster parents , and Cathy was definitely not going to be denied adequate care and attention from now on. The NGO , Youth Outreach, had decided to try and save Michael and Emmy also,they would look into the matter legally and see if they could be put in better positions, because there were already volunteers from the public who had stated their desire to pay for their education in cooperation with the NGO, just to get them out of a life of crime. The man who sent them, known by an alias Snakemaster, had been found dead in the abode they had description him to be in. His phone had revealed the proof , and proof of previous murders were linked to him. The police had been pleased to find him, he was a very, very notorious criminal, that went under many names.



As soon as afternoon came and Dare was at least able to stand, he caused a scene in the hospital and demanded by all means to be put on a flight to Lagos. He had made such a scene that the police inspector had threatened to keephim under detention if his continued such behaviour. He was however reassured that his family was fine and if things were in order he might be let go with three days. He was advised to relax and recover.

Why am I a master of snakes? Why am I the monster I am ? We are in a world where the strong eats the weak, and I am amongst the strong. Therefore I shall not be eaten, therefore I shall surpass death itself.

It is early in the evening. The Snakemaster knows that the snakes he sent, must have bitten the prey already. And Michael, poor, unsuspecting , foolish Michael, would take the blame. Erika Daniels had given him all the information about Laura based on what Dare had told her. The way she'd accurately described Laura as a caring , giving woman had prompted him to form this plan for her death. What irony. The same people she cared for, homeless and needy, would be the same ones to end her life and that of her beloved. But now he must sleep. He picks the little bottle from his pocket, sits on the bench in the ragged shack , wearily. Sleep has always eluded him. He has illusions that he can't understand, nightmares that leave him terrified for the first few minutes when he wakes. Well, he will take sleep by force. He raises the bottle to his lips. The contents of the bottle are gone halfway down his throat before he notices the smell. It's the poison! That little devil, the child.....he remembers Cathy playing with the bottles, when the four were in the shack with him. A stupid, careless mistake on his part not to have known.......that she might have unintentionally played and switched the bottles. Meaning that Laura and her daughter had gotten the sleeping potion, while he..........He cannot die like this. The poison is sure to end its victim in five minutes. He attempts to stand but falls to the floor, his body writhing in pains as he curses . A few minutes to seven, the body of the dreaded killer is still. Saliva in foamy formations from his nose and mouth. The neck and head swollen and his tongue hanging out. He looks like a dead, rotten animal.



Therefore I shall surpass death itself .



He has been no match for death.

At the same time, that evening, an unflinchingly watchful Erika observes Dare, who has begged, cried and threatened, and eventually fallen asleep due to severe fatigue, in his chair where he has been tied up. As she watches, the rays coming into the room now coming from a full moon, something slinks in the shadows. The lights had a problem and Erika is really not the type that knows how to fix things. Besides, she has all her mind set on giving Dare a piece of the pain he has inflicted on her. She shines the torchlight of a now weak phone, due to a used up battery, around. She needs to get something to eat, for him to eat too. He has to get over that witch. And get used to her. She gets up and steps to the door. She holds the wall at the door for support and recoils in absolute fear. Something cold and damp yet fleshy is on the wall. She steps back. The horrible thing throws itself at her. She yells and steps away. The poor light coming from the flashlight won't show her enough light to see her way about . She calls Dare but he's tied up as she left him, and passed out from the emotional and physical stress. She tries to get back to him and untie him. And the thing lashes out and bites her sharply , giving her more pain and terror in a moment than she could ever imagine. The vengeful creature, perhaps as vengeful as she is, wraps itself around her and bites more viciously, on her face, neck and waist before sliding away, quite pleased with itself. Her struggles have yielded nothing and her jerking body acknowledges the presence of a powerful venom. Her left hand extends to Dare's foot, as if trying to touch him for the last time. She has no words, only shock and open eyes. Within seconds it is all over.


Far from her, the cobra that found its way into the room while she was busy monitoring Dare, slips out through the little hole in the windows net through which it came.

In a rich posh neighbourhood, things have gone wild. There are police cars and reporters on the scene on this same evening that claimed the lives of two predators. What's the news? Three young people with a child have been found to have committed a heart rending crime. A woman and child have been saved by suspicious neighbours, who felt all was not quite right with the dirty, scrummy little gang of pitiable kids that turned up at her house and left so hurriedly. The neighbours called the police to detain and investigate the group, and with fear, the boy amongst them had asked for help for the woman and child unconscious in the large house down the street. He had burst into tears, and so had the others, and a team had rushed to the home. The ambulance arrived quickly and 'to God be the glory' , as speculated by a policeman who deemed himself a born again in Christianity, that they were found to be only drugged to sleep, and not dead. They would recover at the hospital, just so the doctors could take extra cautious care that there was not anything more, to affect the victim and her child.


In the red and blue lights of the police cars they are surrounded by, a little dejected group , looking exhausted from crying with red eyes, the littlest amongst them asleep from exhaustion, are hastily and harshly bundled up into a car. The journalists have been given no hint by the police force as to what will happen yet.

This writer has rapidly taken us from the village, to Lagos, and has also given us a taste other foreign countries, through the foreign characters. He has taken us through the journey of Tade and the rest of the boys, their elevation from grass to grace, from teenage life to adulthood. We've been among villagers, we've been among the hustlers from the slums, we've passed the literal battleground of the journalists, and seen the compassion of a stranger towards a lost boy and how he was rewarded with gratitude when the boy was finally found. We've seen our major characters go through highs and lows, triumphs and unfortunate events, joy and sadness. We're living their adventures with them, and we are loving every bit of the ride. Kudos to this fine writer, and more blessed ink to your pen which gives us this marvelous story.

Well as for mistakes, shortcomings, ehhhhh I think you're perfect cuz you're interesting but if you must know, it's just some spelling errors and punctuations, but that aside, I think you're great. The way you twist the story, make it interesting, add suspense, that's skill. And I'm a miss.

Hey darling, the word Ive been looking for to compliment your work is ' intriguing' . Well Love and Snakes will soon come to an end, thanks for following, you are appreciated. Do you use 'juju'? I thought I was just self centered, not caring for others works, but the works I am uninterested in must be boring because your story is one that caught me honestly. I keep reading and I even read to catch every word . Why is this story so very interesting to me? I don't know but it takes my attention so powerfully. This way of drawing people that you have, its amazing, and if a writer has this secret recipe of drawing people closer , it's even better than good quotation, spelling, etc.

I read your story carefully like its for an exam. I surprise myself with the way I concentrate. Dont mind me if I'm gushing but I'm surprised how I follow it back to back. I also followed another story tho but that one has ended. Hmmm don't know what to say again. Till you post again sha.
