airsaylongcome: Those low barrier roles are very critical. Today there enough tools for people to learn. You can download Virtualbox, setup a couple of virtual servers and run crazy learning how to ssh into them, how to remotely update them and all. Can host mysql on one, Apache/PHP on another VM and get both "talking". The opportunities are endless really. Even if one just decides to focus on DB Admin. Deploy Postgres or Maria and start learning SQL on both. It doesn't have to be programming programming all the time Agreed I even picked up Instructional designing again, there's cash there and it's not tech also but only have to prove with a great portfolio. |

tosinhtml: "What are the disadvantages of building with PHP and what considerations should one evaluate before settling on a language to learn?"
The only disadvantage is that people dislike PHP & the tech community is against it, they say it encourages bad practices & so on. So I'd advise NOT to learn it. You'd end up becoming jobless, except you want to be a full-time freelancer on Upwork.
AFAIK The language is an awesome language, very fast & easy to use. Most of the good jobs are remote jobs & if the Western tech communties say something is bad, even when you disagree, you have no option.
Most of the backend devs i know that used PHP Laravel have all moved to GO or C#. Java also is getting the hate but because It is mostly used by enterprise & those ones make a ton of revenue, so enterprise companies don't care about the hipster tech community crying about Java being too verbose. Yeah PHP is mostly used in the freelance or platform space. |

If it's physical who is going to be responsible for handling the location of mentoring people and if it's online, how is that any different from watching a Youtube video. Programming cannot be taught indepthly by someone, because it's a lot to learn, bootcamps are just eating your money and building business of dreams.
Self learning is still the ideal way of surviving in this freelance market with minimal cost. I've said it join a community it's easier to learn in peers than finding a mentor.
Your solution doesn't sound feasible to me, unless you just want to make contributions in the section too, then i understand. |

airsaylongcome: Now you helping in the little way you can and several other people helping in the little way they can isn't that what most people here are doing? Many so-called "gurus" here stumbled their way into tech driven by hunger. Many never had a career plan and are only just feeling their way through the field. I stumbled my way into my current field driven by a job loss. And I am only blindly feeling my way through. So to lay accusations that people aren't sharing information is completely unfair. I remember on a thread here were someone developed a point of sale software and I pointed them to open source solutions they can look at to get ideas how to build and strengthen their solutions and was rebuffed. Many people looking for "mentors" here are looking for free teachers. Qtguru has a slack channel were he tries to provide some kind of training. Howany of these mentees are there? He has had a couple of webinars and turnout has been less than stellar. And he still does it whether turnout is one or five. I've never met him and we've it ever talked via his webinars so I'm not ass-licking (as you seem to quickly throw around when someone supports someone else here). In fact when I get on his webinars he can tell I'm an old school programmer because of the languages I talk about. But I join intermittently to see what the young guns are up to. And it's only the real die hard that have been on his webinars. Like I always say, a mentee needs to show considerable initiative for a mentor to want to take up that responsibility. Free him, people who have goals don't look for excuses. |

Jashub: I don't understand why you're throwing emotional tantrums over what is obvious , except you're in denial.
Secondly , you generalizing and saying that many Nigerians are into the same information sharing pool as you isn't true , I say this because, I visit this section to see lots of struggling people not knowing what to do ...and rarely comment on this.
In fact , I hardly comment on this section, but if I do, it's for very valid reasons that have been lingering on for far too long .
Lastly , it's not an entitlement mentality to ask for mentorship (aka hand-holding) ...especially if the intrested persons are willing to put in the effort. Little things like the basics of a tech career or roadmaps into the latest technologies should be littering the place, but hardly would you see this .
This is my observation and it will help each and everyone one here (including myself ) to change this attitude so that we can churn out the next generation of programmers who would be better equipped to start a career in tech instead of meandering on YouTube for things we could easily mentor them on not to sound offensive, but that's not realistic, look at the economy, you think your average dev is going to forgo his time out of humility just to help out of the goodness of their heart. Also Programming is not a field for hand-holding. |

jikins: My God! I am not one to throw insults but this has to be one of the dumbest takes I have seen in a while. YouTube was made in the US. Why aren't you asking where is the UK developer's version, or where is the Norwegian version.
But just because of your own inferiority complex the only thing your head can process is it belongs to a white man. So the Nigerians that post free resources on YouTube are of no significance. Heck I am very sure you don't subscribe to a single Nigerian channel.
I am pretty sure your source of frustration is that you thought tech will be a cake work. That you don't have to do any work, you will just find some unfortunate Nigerian to spoon feed you what took them years to pick up.
Oga go hustle, I repeat go hustle, programming isn't for the weak. There are so many free resources online that you have no right to be giving this excuse in 2023. If it was back in the early 2000s I will understand but not now. Many people have spent countless hours and energy creating free resources for someone like you to use for free. Instead of finding them and actually using them. You are here crying about mentors when you have already made resources that will definitely get you started faster and better than any mentor will.
Hold yourself accountable bruv. Nobody owes you anything. Most devs here struggled to get to where they are and they used these resources they are mentioning for you to get there. A smart person will instead be asking questions like
Which YouTube channel will you recommend?
What other free resource can I use to get started apart from YouTube.
Or hey I struggle to understand so and so concept. Can you put me through or recommend a good resource on it?
But no na mentorship be your problem not actually doing the work. Sit down and hustle nobody will do it for you. Some people are just lazy to do their own work. It's a Nigerian thing, the hand holding. It's why many devs can't find jobs. |

Health › Re: My Girlfriends Have Left Me Because I Have Erectile Dysfunction by qtguru(m): 5:48pm On Jun 24, 2023 |
kyber: My morning erection sometimes comes and sometimes doesn’t, and when it comes it is semi hard.
So I have tried to have sex with girls, whenever I’m being excited I get hard, But after putting on a condom and inserting my male organ into the vagina, it’s becomes soft after 2 or 3 thrust.
It takes minutes for me to get hard after some caressing by the lady and when I put it in it goes soft again.
Mind you I do masturbate but I stopped a month ago. Those were the period these things happened. I haven’t had sex since I stopped masturbation for fear of the repetition.
The girls I had left cause I couldn’t satisfy them, the love they had for me vanished after I couldn’t even perform well like their ex, making them miss their exes .
I haven’t tried raw sex yet to confirm if I can sustain my erection when I feel the inner walls of the vagina and it’s sweetness, because some of the articles I have read here on Nairaland talked about my male organ getting used to my left hand (cause that’s what i use) thereby making it loose sensitivity to the point where my male organ becomes insensitive inside the condom.
Is my condition a critical one or one that can be fixed easily by following few steps of instructions?
What can I do to get this fixed and get my male organ back to its full potential? Do you exercise ? |
