Maybe we should hear some exploits of some of these our ancestors although very many would have been exaggerated. Pardon me if this is derailing the thread. My maternal great-grandfather was said to be the first person to buy a gramophone and garri processing mill in my mum's village. He was also said to have accompanied his friend to jail, he believed his friend was innocent of the charges by the colonial authorities and asked them to lock both of them up which they promptly did. Both friends made a pact in prison that when their wives give birth and they are opposite sexes, the two babies will be betrothed and that was how my grandparents were joined before birth. While a teenager, my grand mom took ill and was taken to a faraway village and my grand dad did not come to visit her, so she got angry and broke the relationship and later married another man who had the same name as my grand dad (to deceive the juju). But she bore no child and she was told she has to come back to my grand dad before she can bear a child, she did that and gave birth to my mum. Sorry for taking your time. 9 |
DaRapture:Its not surprising you can do that. Records where kept by slave raiders of where their ship got slaves from, where it berthed, who bought who and from where. It was basically a business transaction and so records were meticulously kept in very many cases. But here people just basically live their lives and pass on, no records where kept. The people who would be able to trace their lineage thru oral traditions would be those from royal families or those with famous warriors and hunters. The most ancient person i heard of in my family was my great-great-grandfather, who was said to be a giant and sweeps his compound with a tree, can't imagine that. |
The Egbere has human features like that of a child, but with enough roughness and hardness that you would know its not human. It goes its own ways and is not violent. I have not heard of Ahiku, but there is 'abiku' in the nigerian myth also known as 'ogbanje'. |
Kobojunkie:I was around back in the 80's at least from the mid to late 80's, though i don't know where you grew up, but in my neighborhood, the rickety truck disposal comes once a month, stays on the major road and honks and we all run after it to dump our stuff, half of it littering everywhere. Then in the 90's everything ceased, not a single truck disposing waste. Then Tinubu brought the private scheme and Fashola really expanded on that, now the trucks are very many, a considerable number are new and they enter inner streets albeit comes like once every week into the streets. The scheme is working well in most areas. But they need to do something about the markets and those who dump waste on the roads early in the morning for the trucks to pick up later. i hate it when am driving to work at 5am and refuse bags are everywhere but by 9 they are gone. |
FXKing2012:You sure you know what persecution is? please check the scriptures. The scriptures said persecuted for righteousness sake, not because you are flaunting wealth, slapping people, faking miracles and all the nonsense we see these people doing today. |
Rossikk:okay maybe i exaggerated the number of times, but those dirts come from other places too not just from the streets. i agree that this is the way to go and i mentioned some streets tarred by fashola that has covered drainages. My point is that, there should be more awareness and re-orientation by the government in conjunction with constructing covered drains. I have even seen some of these street sweepers, (i accosted one at Ajose adeogun in V.I) sweeping the sands from the streets into those iron openings. What they normally do is that they sweep the sands off the paved road and pack them into bags to be disposed off later, but this guy did not want to bother with the bags, he was just sweeping them into the openings. |
Rossikk:I dont mind if they do it the way you suggested, i know there are couple of streets fashola tarred in Alimosho local govt and they were all covered up nicely with walk-ways, e.g Olugbede street and some others i pass thru but dont know their names, i think also Ekoro road in Abule-egba was done that way, the long stretch of Lasu-iyana iba road was also covered up. But my problem is you need to know the rate at which people are filling them up with trash, the government would have to clean them up at least 4 times a year. The environment can't be clean and spotless when everybody throws trash out of cars and dump dirt in street corners. I have taught all my siblings not to ever throw things out of cars or buses and to discourage others from doing it, the only problem is people easily get annoyed when i try dissuading them. Lagos state as a matter of policy has to take this drive to schools, let them compose songs about it and let children sing them, and also instruct the kids to take the message home to their parents and friends. We need more than TV adverts and radio announcements to change people's attitude. |
diluminati:Before the publicized announcement and the subsequent passage of the law, would you have been able to be consummate your marriage. Valid marriages in Nigeria before the law are either traditional or court marriage, before now i have never heard of same-sex marriage been allowed under such institutions. So crying over this is not necessary, it was never going to happen in the first place. |
Whats happening, i stay in lagos. Maybe i can persuade a my sister to join. |
ebere1712:You are very annoying and you need to cut of the raving foolishness in you that made you write the above nonsense. |
tempest01:We were just discussing this in the office, a colleague said he was there when it happened, another that went to covenant University was wondering why the fuss about it, that it happened like two years ago and also it was no the first time he is slapping people during service. Many are aware that he also lay curses on people. This Man is not acting like he is human, he is acting like he is a demi-god, able to seal people's fate and condemn people to eternal damnation. If he is human and its a mistake why is he not admitting and why is he repeating them. |
Calm down folks! Our father Bishop David Oyedepo is a servant of God and a man. In John 2:15 Jesus had to to display some measure of physical authority. John 2: 15 So he made a[b] whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple area, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. I am so tired of all you whining, weak and fruitless folks. The woman claimed she was a witch. The Bishop must have reacted out of disgust on hearing her.
This Girl is said to be possessed by an evil spirit, so she is not in control of herself, so how why would Oyedepo slapped the girl and abuse her. It is wrong for for him to slap her. The people that were chased out by Jesus were thieves and robbers and they were in the wrong place, the traders knew what they were doing, a demon-possessed person is possessed i.e she is controlled by other forces, so he is not suppose to vent his anger on her. Jesus Christ was called many things by many people, witnesses lied against him to his very face and he was slapped during his trials. So what disrespect are some people talking about here. The man had no right legally and no christian principles on which he would base his actions. |
Ozichim:Where did you get that from, i have heard a lot said about us, but this one is unique and very funny. Please people should just ask witnesses directly what they believe and they would get the correct answer. You listed some Bible-believing churches but all those Bible believing church don't teach the same things. In fact when we discuss with them and starts quoting the Bible, they start talking about what their pastors said and different revelations of diverse origins, especially personal revelations in dreams and Angelic visitations. If you want a people that defends the Bible as the final authority on religious matters, it is the witnesses. You said we don't encourage reading the Bible, that is too much of a lie, thousands of kingdom halls and JW branches all over the world have a sign board that says 'Read God's Word the Holy Bible Daily'. |
Crazyly funny stuff from the good old days. When we got to part 1 in the UNI, we were allocated rooms in the freshers hall - angola hall - but one of our colleagues was going round to steal fans from the rooms and sell it to others that don't have. By the time we caught him, there was ferefe shishi (mild beating) and we promptly gave him the name - Toofan -. Later he became the president of the Student Union and one of the best students from his class. |
nedu210:Bros, whats the meaning of Igbo blood, there is only one blood and it runs in everybody, there is no blue blood, royal blood, igbo, yoruba, ijaw or Edo blood. We are what we choose to become. |
People just love their Jackie Chan. I love Jackie five times better than Jet Li, well i love Jackie 5 times better than any other actor. Jet Li dey do things wey no winch doctor fit do, so i cant even say he fights better than Jackie chan, until when they fight for real life and he whoop my guy. Jackie all the way. |
That a medical facility is built at all is welcoming news. Nigeria has been deprived for so long that steady improvement over time would have a tremendous impact on the life of the people. I remember a health centre in front of my house, that was where my younger brother was born 24yrs ago, over time it became mosquito infected, there was no water, no light etc. But some years ago Tinubu upgraded it to a health centre, brought a big Generator, repaired the doors and fixed mosquito nets, doctors and several nurses were posted there. It made a huge impact in the health of the people there, now people could also be treated for other ailments unlike when it was just a maternity ward. These hospitals are not the best the world can offer, but they can and have significantly improved the health of the people in the Area where they are sited. I would rather we have hundreds of these scattered around the state and accessible to 80% of the population than have 2 or 3 of the best the world can offer but accessible to 10% of the population. Everyone wants the latest and greatest car or gadget, but all other factors have to be considered to know which we serve best. For me the utmost for the most at anytime, than the best for a few. |
Booshman you are still at it. well done Egbere is short forest spirit that is reputed to carry a mat all around and very stealthy, if you steal its mat the spirit will follow you around for days wailing, if you can stand all that for the said period of time you become very rich, thats part of the myth. @ mbatuku, it is often used as a swear word by mothers or older people for younger ones as a swear word, meaning 'you small thing' or 'you troublesome small thing. |
Yes, i am a Jehovah's Witnesses. The day i believe the scriptures don't add up and that its a fraud is the day i stop being a Christian. I have read enough of it for me to believe and affirm that it is inspired of God and beneficial for all mankind. Cheers man. |
Part of Adam's punishment was that he is going to toil hard before he feeds himself, the land was not going to be as fruitful as it was in the garden. I did not think the name of God is Jehovah, that is what i read from the scriptures. its the closest translation or transliteration of the divine name YHWH in English. A lot of people wants the Bible to be explicit on so many subjects, so as to quell their doubts, questions and other issues. A lot of these issues are just raised to criticize the Bible, some others need you to have faith to believe. But the fact is people who wants to question will always raise questions, we can discuss some of these issues together one-on-one if you wish, we might be able to reach a common ground or middle ground on some of them. cheers. |
all4naija:So many matters and issues in the Bible are like that, for me i believe in the scriptures and where there seems to be discrepancy and controversy, i try and study and make research to get a good or better understanding of the matter. (Genesis 4:11-15) . . .And now you are cursed in banishment from the ground, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood at your hand. 12 When you cultivate the ground, it will not give you back its power. A wanderer and a fugitive you will become in the earth.” 13 At this Cain said to Jehovah: “My punishment for error is too great to carry. 14 Here you are actually driving me this day from off the surface of the ground, and from your face I shall be concealed; and I must become a wanderer and fugitive on the earth, and it is certain that anyone finding me will kill me.” 15 At this Jehovah said to him: “For that reason anyone killing Cain must suffer vengeance seven times.”. . . There was a curse on the ground because of the sin of Adam, in the case of cain who was a farmer the curse was increased, such that Cain would never be a successful farmer. Then he was also to continue wandering for life, he would be a fugitive always afraid to stay in a place fearing for his life. These were the punishment that Cain said was too great to bear, so he begged for mercy and God said he need not be afraid for his life anymore, anyone avenging the death of Abel on Cain would have to suffer a greater vengeance. This was a decree God made to all other humans, to prevent them from killing cain. That was why he survived the curse. |
logica:Anybody can say anything, if a christian says they don't have freewill, i will just ask for his scriptural proofs. In all endeavors of man we have been having different interpretation of things. Even Science that is suppose to be exact and experimental with proofs and definite laws, there have been different interpretations of a lot they came up with. The Big slam theory, universe or multiverse, evolution of man, what is the nature of matter, relativity, rock formation, how fossil oil was formed, is the universe accelerating or decelerating, climate change etc all these are issues that scientists have different interpretations as varied as the person reading it. So its not surprising that matters of faith and beliefs that can't be tested in a lab should have as varied an interpretation as the person reading it. |
all4naija:The Bible never said Cain got married before Seth was born, it could have been before and it may have been after, no one knows. Like i said the statement Eve made indicates that as a male child he she now has a replacement for Abel that was killed. So there is high possibility that she had other kids male and female after Abel was born and before he was killed, then after Abel was killed she may have given birth to female children, then when a male child Seth came along, she declared him to be a replacement for Abel. The number of years between the birth of Abel and the time to full maturity and his eventual murder by Cain would be sufficient for several kids both male and female to have been born. |
logica:From what we can deduce from the scriptures all intelligent creatures of God has the free-will to obey or disobey. The first disobedience was from Satan, who is a heavenly creature and there were other angels who used their freewill and joined in rebelling against God. Jesus also mentioned ' not my will but the will of the father'. |
zataxs:This is no chicken egg dilemma. The fruit of the tree is not a repository of what is good and bad. God had already given several instructions to Adam and Eve, he knows that obeying such instructions is good and disobeying is bad. Not fulfilling the instruction to name the animals, take care of all that was put in his care would be bad, doing them as instructed is good. Not eating the fruit is good, eating the fruit is bad. God even told him the repercussion of eating the fruit, he was going to die. So he knew what was bad before he ate the fruit. Adam and Eve got to know what was good and what was bad in the sense of now judging for themselves what was good and what was bad. Satan said they would be like God, i.e they would be a god unto themselves never needing God to tell them what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, they would decide what is good and what is bad by themselves, They were idolatrously placing their judgment above God’s, disobediently becoming a law to themselves, as it were, instead of obeying God, who has both the right and the wisdom necessary to determine good and bad. |
all4naija:No, the Bible recorded the history of the first man Adam, the people i mentioned are the other Children of Adam and Eve, born after the birth of cain and Abel. You need to see that the Bible mentioned that they had other Kids. There is no where we read that no kids were born before Abel was killed. (Genesis 4:1-2) . . .Now Adam had intercourse with Eve his wife and she became pregnant. In time she gave birth to Cain and said: “I have produced a man with the aid of Jehovah.” 2 Later she again gave birth, to his brother Abel, From the verse above, female children could have been born before a brother Abel. After the birth of Abel, other kids also came along, possibly both male and female. What is certain is that after Abel was killed, the next son that was born is Seth, because Eve saw him as a replacement for Abel. We are talking about where Cain got his wife from, and the Bible revealed that other children were born and people lived for a long time and could easily grow exponentially within 100 - 500 years. Just Imagine Adm possibly being virile for 500 -700 years and maybe he had his first child before he was 50. |
^^^^^^ whatever the definition, there is a general thread that runs thru all the cultures, a basic idea of good and bad. If man is inherently evil, we would have been promoting evils in all the cultures, whatever the definition of evil in each culture is, that would have been the basis of all our aspirations and drives, self-preservation and survival of the fittest without any scruples or repercussions. It would have been evil galore all through. My own thots about God being aware of it is different, my own idea of God being all-knowing is now what you have assumed. While he has the ability to know whatever he chooses to know, i believe he selectively uses the power. He does not just peer into everything although he has the ability, the right and the power to do so. For me, did God know Adam and Eve were going to sin? or that even Satan or the rebellious Angels would sin? No. Thus he is not responsible for setting in motion all these troubles. I know i have stirred the hornet's nest with this, ![]() |
Kay 17:Are you the god that has now made God ultimately responsible for his creation, what do you mean by the options they don't have? If the nature of man is inherently evil how come good is also found in man. How is it that in all cultures be it christian, animist, islamic, all cultures have a concept of good and evil and always wants to stamp out evil. |
all4naija:And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. 4 And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters. After Cain killed Abel, the Bible never stated what time elapsed before he got married, meanwhile Adam had given birth to sons and daughters, so the only possible source of wife for him, is for him to marry one of the available women. After he gave birth to his son, he started to build a city, showing that the population around him was considerable enough for him to build a city. The Bible stated that they lived up to 500 - 900 years, so with the strength and virility then and also the longevity, marrying within the family wont be a problem. Genesis 4:14 New International Version (NIV) 14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.” Who were the people he said would find him and kill him, is it the yet-to-be-born children of Adam, who would be told the story and become so angry to go about hunting for Cain, or could it be other sons and daughters of Adam who knew the two of them and would be really angry enough to kill Cain. The only other son that was named is Seth, but there is nothing that says he was definitely the third child. |
ogaju007:Guy your issues goes beyond what is being discussed in this thread. What is culture? Who owns what religion? Is culture stagnant or dynamic? What histories are you talking about, there is hardly any you want to mention that i don't know of? The good news has been in Africa before many of our forefathers were ever here in our present locality. Has the culture of the chinese, japanese indians remained the same for thousands of years. Is religion the same as culture or a part of culture, if you accept a religion, have you automatically thrown culture out of the window. Do you eat all your meals with your hand, do you still poo in the bush, did you do a court marriage or it was strictly traditional. Please cultures are dynamic and all cultures of the world including your revered jap, chinese and indian cultures have changed and it is still changing. |
ogaju007:I have replied the objection you raised earlier. Am not ashamed to question things and i keep seeking answer to strenghten my faith. Asking me to straff my Sister is dumb because i have told you its wrong. You guys think people and spirits are machine/chemicals and they should react to events the same way under standard temperature and pressure. God has a grand purpose and he unfolds them gradually, he has created intelligent creatures, who have free will and a mind of their own. Events and decisions people make also makes God to adjust his plans accordingly until he achieves his grand purpose which is unstoppable. Eve was made from Adam's rib and so he declared 'bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh' effectively both of them were blood relatives, they gave birth to children who can only multiply by marrying themselves because there were no one else. Whats far-fetched in that? Men were closer to perfection, so there were no diseases to pass in the blood line, but when the need arose to discontinue the practise and since there are other available distant relatives to marry, God decreed that it should stop. |
all4naija: all4naija:Genesis chapters 3 and 4 present the following information: (1) Eve was “the mother of everyone living.” (2) Time elapsed between the birth of Cain and his offering the sacrifice that was rejected by God. (3) Following his banishment to become “a wanderer and a fugitive,” Cain worried that ‘anyone finding him’ might try to kill him. (4) God set up a sign to protect Cain, indicating that either his siblings or other relatives might try to kill him. (5) “Afterward,” Cain had intercourse with his wife in “the land of Fugitiveness The events in those chapters are not listed chronologically as they happened. The events that happened between cain and Abel were very important and so details were given about them. As at the time of Abel's death, there must have been other siblings and possibly granchildren and several generations of cousins because Cain was afraid enough for him to ask God to prevent people from killing him. He was not talking about non-existent humans, these were real threats to his life and God gave him his request. He was then able to go forth into exile and eventually married and built a city. all4naija:As i earlier mentioned the events were not listed as they happened. The statements of Cain clearly shows that there were other siblings, possibly cousins and nieces. We should not forget that people were living for hundreds of years then, so within a hundred years, the population would have been enough to have enough extended relatives. |

it seems reality is fading away from my eyes. i'm broken. i cant leave her, that will be the end of me and she cant either. i cant leave my siblings, no i cant.
do not believe that Jesus is the son of God.
. Really it doesn't add up. Don't be ashamed to question things. Why not straff your own sister? PLEASE don't be brainwashed.
