Celebrities / Bbnaija: I Really Like Ozo, But… – Nengi by RandomAfrican1: 9:15am On Sep 29, 2020

Nengi, the 2nd runner-up of the just concluded Big Brother Naija season 5 show had a sit-down chat with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and it was an interesting one.

Ebuka asked the ex-housemate about how she felt about being able to make it to the final round of the much contested show but not ending up winning, “where you disappointed?” Ebuka asked.

Nengi responded saying that, “No I wasn’t disappointed at all, I think at some point, I already knew that Laycon was going to win.”

A surprised Ebuka interjected asking, “at what point did you know that he was going to win?”

“I think week 6 or so… I remember telling Dorathy in the bathroom… I could tell he had a lot of fans because during the parties you could hear the DJ’s hailing him and playing his music,” the pretty and newly unveiled celeb said.

The show host then moved into the expected issues of relationships, situationship and triangles involving her – he posed the Prince question to her, to which she answered saying, she felt that Prince was more into the game than anything else in the house, thus the reason why they fell out easily and didn’t speak for weeks. And with the Ozo situation where she kept asking for space and yet complained whenever he ignored her, she tried to clarify by saying that ———–

Celebrities / Bbnaija: Vee And I Are Meant For Each Other, But Let’s Wait And See – Neo by RandomAfrican1: 7:27am On Sep 29, 2020

Neo Akpofure, the 3rd runner-up of this season’s Big Brother Naija Reality TV show, as expected had his first interview outside of the house with none other than the indefatigable Ebuka.

Ebuka started by asking the ex-housemate how he came so prepared to “drip” fashion-wise.

“You see, I will not lie ehn, I don’t think I was even prepared enough,” Neo answered.

“Well, let’s go back to last night, the finale. You were the second to leave the house. Did your position surprise you?” Ebuka quizzed.

Neo answered saying that he is actually grateful for being 4th out of all the 20 housemates. He added that he being in the top 5 alone was surprising enough for him, so all he has to offer is gratitude to God and everyone else who made it happen.

Ebuka then asked the housemate from Warri what his thoughts were when he and his girlfriend Vee pulled a smart one on the other housemates and got saved from eviction in the 9th week, “did you feel like the other housemates hated you guys?”

“You see ehn, me I didn't even care how they felt as long as me and my girl were safe,” he posited.

Celebrities / Bbnaija: I Know I Am A Controversial Person – Vee by RandomAfrican1: 6:54am On Sep 29, 2020

Vee, known in real life as Victoria Adeleye, was on the hot seat with BBNaija Reality TV Show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

The interview started quite interestingly when Ebuka asked, “should I call you the Ice Queen or…”

Vee responded saying, “call me what you like, I live that calling!” and ended the statement with a proud smile lol… this girl…

Ebuka then asked her how she felt being the first to be evicted from the top five. She answered saying she was expecting it and wasn’t surprised. She expressed her gratitude for having made it that far and attributed her longevity on the show to grace.

She added saying that, ” I feel like I am quite a controversial person… somebody that speaks their mind and I don’t know if a lot of people are ready to accept those kinds of people yet.”

Ebuka then asked the “Neo question” and reminded her that she actually went for the chase… you will find her response to this in the video below;

What is the bigger picture?
Foreign Affairs / Togo Gets Its First Ever Female Prime Minister by RandomAfrican1: 9:07pm On Sep 28, 2020

Victoire Dogbe has been named as Prime Minister of West African Nation, Togo.

Togo held its most recent election this year (2020), on the 22nd of February, and as speculated and expected, the incumbent President whose family has been ruling the West African country for decades now, Faure Essoziman Gnassingbe won the election by a landslide, getting 70.78% of the total votes cast.

After winning the election however, it has taken Mr. Gnassingbe a pretty long time to form a government. The country went on for almost 8 months without an administrative head of state a and cabinet ministers.

The Togolese President finally came down to naming a government today, and for the first time in the country’s history, a woman has been selected as Prime Minister (PM) and Head of Government. Mr. Gnassingbe announced Madame Victoire Tomegah Dogbe as the new Togolese PM a couple of hours ago.

Who is Madame Victoire Tomegah Dogbe?

Madame Victoire Tomegah Dogbe has been in a minister of state since 2008.

She has worked previously for a number of renowned institutions, including the UNDP in Benin before she was called to join the government of then Prime Minister, Gilbert Houngbo, as the Minister of Development.

After the elections of 2010, she was retained as a minister in the Gilbert Hungbo’s government, but this time with an expanded portfolio as minister of Development, Youth Craft and Youth Employment.

When Prime Minister Gilbert Houngbo resigned in July 2012, she retained her position in the new government of Prime Minister Ahoumey Zunu from 2012-2015

After the 2015 Elections Komi Selom Klassou replaced Ahoumey Zunu and Victoire Dogbe still retained her position as Minister of Development, Youth Craft and Youth Employment until the 2020 elections.

Her annuncement as new PM and head of Government has come as a surprise to many, and as expected, she has been receiving a lto fo messages of felicitations from global leaders.

Many pro-women groups have said that this move by the government of Togo represents a special win for not just women in the country, but it also gives some impetus to the global movement of women empowerment.

Celebrities / Bbnaija And DSTV Want To Cheat Laycon? by RandomAfrican1: 6:02pm On Sep 26, 2020

The ongoing BBNaija Season 5 show seemed to have been proceeding without much glitch until yesterday where it appears that things have been turned on their heads in a bit to cheat leading housemate Laycon.

Voting lines for the top 5 housemates (Laycon, Dorathy, Neo, Vee and Nengi) were supposed to have been closed last night at 10pm West African Time (WAT), but it appears that as at 14 to 15 hours after this time deadline, text voting lines were still open.

This has caused a lot of Laycon supporters, who go by the tag iCONS, to lead a protest on Micro blogging site twitter with the hashtag #AfricanMagicShutTheVotingLines.

The curious thing however is that at 10pm WAT, iCONS had gone to sleep with the notion that their massive voting would (as expected) cause their favourite housemate, Laycon to win. But sudden intelligence gathered from some quarters revealed that certain voting groups of certain housemates were aware that the voting lines wouldn’t be closed at 10pm and kept voting massively even up to 15 hours after the supposed deadline.

This is beginning to look like a dent in the image of the organizers of Big Brother Naija and the entire Multichoice outfit as a whole, as it seems as though there is some underhand dealings to see to it that Laycon does not emerge as the ultimate winner of the season 5 edition of the show – and this is very bad for the brand which till now had appeared to be beyond reproach in its voting mechanism.

Could this lead to the eventual discrediting of the entire show if Laycon does not emerge as the rightful winner? Voting trends for the last 9 week clearly shows that the housemate’s fanbase is way larger than that of all other housemates combined as such it is curious to know what the motive behind this move is.

Or could it just be a harmless glitch? We have less than 24 hours to find out.

Car Talk / International Automobile Companies Opening Factories In Ghana by RandomAfrican1: 11:29am On Sep 25, 2020

The Ghanaian government’s automotive development policy which is largely aimed at revitalising the domestic automotive industry appears to be yielding some positive results as more International Automobile companies have announced plans to set up assembly plants in the country.

The recent developments in the sector has had the Managing Director of CFAO Motors Ghana has speaking. In a recent interview, he said that, “our group is working on that; obviously by the end of 2021 we will be present as an assembly plant [in the local market] also,” Managing Director Paulo Fernandes told said this when speaking with a Business media outfit in Accra, in response to a question on whether the makers of the cars that CFAO distributes in Ghana had plans of assembling locally.

Mr. Fernandes remarked that, “to have an assembly plant in Ghana is a huge opportunity for global car manufacturers to produce new vehicles at cheaper prices for the population—and I think it’s a really good idea.”

According to the CFAO MD, the move by automobile companies around the world wanting to set up factories in Ghana affirms the confidence of the carmakers and CFAO in the domestic automobile industry.

A number of carmakers have announced their intentions to set up assembly plants in the Ghanaian market, following the government’s launch of an automotive development policy to encourage investment in the sector. German automaker Volkswagen (VW) has already begun assembling some of its brands locally.

Mr. Fernanades however echoed the need for a ban on importation of vehicles into the country for the industry to truly thrive. He particularly mentioned the need for a ban on used and salvaged vehicles, which, he argued, was “a good thing for the environment and for the future of the country”.

“If the government will support us—like placing a ban on used-car imports—the new car market will grow and it will be good for everyone. It is dangerous for the growing nation to continue to purchase vehicles that are not fit to be driven in Ghana.”

Apart from support from the government, the CFAO boss said that the local automobile industry will need support from the banks, in terms of providing secure and sustainable means of funding for potential car buyers.

Travel / As An African In Paris, Where To Get Groceries And Food by RandomAfrican1: 8:42am On Sep 25, 2020

As an African in Paris, it can be quite tricky and dicey, especially if you are an Anglophone (English-speaking) African in Paris, France.

In Paris, you won’t really feel out of place since there are also many black folks as yourself all around, the challenge however, especially for non-French speaking Africans would be the language barrier – and this one factor is huge as to whether or not you will enjoy your stay in the city, especially if you are not just in town as a tourist, but as an actual resident. Thus, it is advisable to have knowledge of some basic French at least, before you venture into town, especially if you are coming in alone with no friends or family to help give you some soft-landing.

Neighbourhoods With Sizeable African Population

The neighbourhoods where you will find relatively significant African population are Chateau Rouge, Strasbourg Saint-Denis, Saint-Denis Basilique, Bobigny, Argenteuil, Sarcelles and some few other areas. Do however note th majority of the Africans in Paris are from French speaking African nations like Senegal, Mali, the Congo’s, Ivory Coast, Cameroun, Togo, Benin etc.

As an English-speaking African, places where nationals from English speaking African countries like Ghana and Nigeria can be mostly seen are Sarcelles, Argenteuil and Bobingy.

Groceries
Food is an important factor as to how enjoyable once stay in a place is, thus it is important to know where to get the right foods and at the right prices.

Almost all neighbourhoods in Paris has a major mall, you would either see an Auchan, Leclerc or Carrefour somewhere in your area. All these malls stock some relatable food items from which you can make a good meal, but to get authentic African ingredients, or must I say, ingredients that are close to home (even if not exactly), then you might want to venture the African markets or shops.

The major markets where African foods can be found Chatear Rouge and Saint Denis. But Chateau Rouge should be your first go-to for food items.

There you are likely to find food ingredients of all sorts that a suitable to your country’s dish irrespective of which part of the continent you come from.

In some neighbourhoods, you will also find small African shops where you can quickly dahs in to buy an item or two on days when you do not intend to do bulk shopping or are in need of an item or two (thus there would be no need to travel all the way to Chateau Rouge).

If you are lucky, you will find a shop in your area that stocks some African food. Most of the time, you will see words like ‘Africain,’ ‘Asiatique,’ or ‘Exotique’ written on them.

And if you are looking for an online shopping option for African foods in Paris, then I must say that it is likely going to be a difficult task, one, considering that most of the things would be in French, even when you have to follow-up by phone call. And two, there is practically no online service for African foods as at the time of writing this article… especially for English-speaking African foods.

Celebrities / I Have Many Girlfriends – Ice Prince by RandomAfrican1: 8:12am On Sep 22, 2020

Ice Prince was recently on a show with Nadine of Beats 99.9 FM to premier his new song with Tekno, titled ‘Make up Your Mind.’

During the interview, he disclosed that he had not been able to release music for about a year now because he got signed to an international record label, and this restricts how often he is allowed to drop music and also because the process for the deal actually took a long time before it finally got sealed.

The new record label he has been signed to is 300 Entertainment, where the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Fetty Wap and Young Tap are also signees.

Talking about his new single with Tekno, he disclosed that they have so many unreleased projects together, so much so that it is enough to make an album or two – he further disclosed that the new single was produced by Stunna Beatz, an up and coming Nigerian producer.

At a point in the interview, Beats FM On Air Personality (OAP), Nadine asked the musician, “so do you have someone special in your life… like a girlfriend.”

Ice Prince responded saying, “ah I have many o,” to the bewilderment and awe of the host.

Celebrities / Bbnaija: I Made Laycon My Deputy Because I Felt Guilty – Trikytee by RandomAfrican1: 7:05am On Sep 22, 2020

Trikytee, the 14th housemate to be evicted from this season’s Big Brother Naija House had a sit down with show host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu and it was quite a download.

Triky was quite bubbly all through the interview, Ebuka even had to ask, “so why are you so excited, one would think that you would be upset for not getting into the final week.”

“Ebuka, from week 3, I had been seeing the door and escaping evictions. And now making it through 6 additional weeks… to week 9, I can’t even feel bad. I am grateful,” Trikytee responded.

Ebuka asked again, “you seemed to be everybody’s friend, but you weren’t particularly close to any, how’s that?”

“Yes, it’s hustle 101 Ebuka,” Trikytee responded laughing.

Ebuka also touched on the friendships he formed in the house and specifically asked why he chose Laycon as his deputy when he became Head of House, even though he had nominated the rapper/musician a couple of times.

The ex housemate answered saying that “It was because I felt guilty you know… I actually like him, he hasn’t done anything to me so I just thought i should choose him as deputy to make up for nominating him.”

TV/Movies / Watch Bovi’s New Youtube Series, Banana Republic by RandomAfrican1: 8:48pm On Sep 21, 2020

Bovi Ugboma has sealed his place as one of Nigeria and Africa’s foremost comedians, and being one who’s abreast with the times, he has moved his craft online where he features in a number of YouTube series.

One of his recent series is ‘Banana Republic.’

Banana republic is a sort of pseudo Republic of Nigeria “online,” and it is one which would crack your ribs even as Bovi tries to feign seriousness as a newly sworn in president.

In the first episode which I feature here, Bovi is sworn into office as a new president, and the shenanigans is something to behold.

This series is one to be enjoyed, and I believe that you can start by watching the first of a series of episodes with this link; https://africaatrandom.com/watch-bovis-new-youtube-series-banana-republic/

Celebrities / Bbnaija: Why ‘LMAO Ozo’ Was Trending On Global Twitter Last Night by RandomAfrican1: 7:52am On Sep 21, 2020

'Lmao Ozo' was one of the top trends on global twitter last night… and your guess must be as good as mine, because of course! It was inspired by our very own Ozoemena Chukwu of BBNaija Season 5 fame.

Well… the main incident that caused ‘Lmao Ozo’ to become a top trend last night was that as Ebuka announced that Ozo had become the 15th housemate to be evicted from the reality TV show, the male housemate quickly went round to give his fellow housemates ‘half-hearted’ handshakes and hugs, all in a bid to reserve the last and best for his in-house crush, Nengi.

During his hug with Nengi, he said to her, “I will be waiting for you outside… Remember the thing I told you, that I will be waiting for you on the other side.” This was all during Big Brother’s famous 10-seconds countdown.

After the mini-speech to Nengi, Ozo then attempted to go for a kiss… all of this was happening even as he one time “bestest friend” Dorathy was snugging at his shirt from behind for a final goodbye hug… but our in-house lover boy’s stimuli could not be distracted from his dearest Nengi Rebecca!

Ozo’s attempt to go in for the final kiss was as expected, swerved by Nengi.

This got me thinking… “Ozo, Nengi has used you to catch cruise for the entirety of the show without giving you as much as an opportunity for a peck on the cheek, so were you expecting like a full blown kiss at this point??“

Well, this episode appeared to have caught fire on twitter as many memes have been developed from it, backed by the trend phrase, ‘Lmao Ozo.’

Even after being swerved of the kiss, Ozo on his way out shouted, “I love you Nengi!”…

Me: Ahhhhhh baba Ozo… Ahhhh *Mouth wide open.*

Some noticeable aspects of all the memes were Vee and Dora’s reactions when Nengi swerved Ozo’s kiss. The faces Vee and Dora made were priceless! LOL!

Politics / BREAKING: Obaseki Wins Edo State Elections by RandomAfrican1: 3:19pm On Sep 20, 2020

In an interesting twist of events in Edo State, Nigeria, it appears that the sitting governor, Godwin Obaseki, has won over the APC candidate, Pastor Ize-Iyamu, who was backed by Edo state political godfather, Comrade Oshiomole.

It is widely known that the sitting governor of the state used to be a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before having a major fall out with his supposed political godfather and governorship predecessor, Adams Oshiomole.

This caused Governor Obaseki to leave the APC and pitch camp with the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and then subsequently became their candidate for the election.

The lead up to the election was feisty as the APC machinery was sent in full force into Edo state to ensure that Obaseki is ousted for betraying their party. In fact, it is believed that the Federal might of the Nigerian state was behind a plot to see to it that the state goes back under the control of the APC party.

The national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu was even at a point forced to call Obaseki an ‘ingrate’ for betraying the party.

Final provisional results sighted by Africa At Random, coming out of the stables of the Independent Electoral Commision (INEC), shows that Godwin Obaseki has taken a wide lead over the APC candidate, and he is most likely to be declared the winner of this weekend’s gubernatorial election.

The total result is looking like;

PDP – 307,955

APC – 223, 619

Vote margin – 84,336

The question now is, ‘is the the end of “godfatherism” in Edo state’s body politics?’ Is this the end of “godfatherism” in the body politics of Nigeria as a whole?… Only time will tell.

There is an upcoming show down between both parties in Ondo state, and it is known that the APC national leader has clearly stated his bias (of course) for the APC candidate there. Many of Tinubu’s critics have stated that, he seems to want to hold an entrenched godfather position in the Nigerian political sphere and they are hell bent to see that broken.

Romance / My Husband Is The Boss At Home – Ghanaian Lady CEO by RandomAfrican1: 1:21pm On Sep 19, 2020

The Chief Executive Officer of the Hollard Group in Ghana, Mrs. Patience Akyianu, has said that desptie the many high positions she holds in society, she still sees submission to her husband as an important and needed part of her Christian way of living.

She made this comment whiles speaking with YFM’s Rev. Erskine on the Y Leaderboard Series.

“We are a Christian family and we try and implement Christian principles in our home. Over time, it hasn’t always been like this. We have matured in our faith.

“I try to adapt to the requirements of my various environment. Home is not work and in the home, it is very clear that my husband is the boss.”

It is easy for me because just as many women wear different hats and switch a lot, it is easy for us,” she said.

Mrs. Akyianu noted that it is necessary to have an understanding of what is required of her as a wife. She believes that this rids her off any form of confusion on how to act where and when.

She says that it remains a surprise to her when people ask her whether or not she has issues and conflicts adjusting in her role as a corporate leader and a wife.

In her opinion, the family is important no matter your position in this world.

Addressing the issue of women in leadership and their role in the family she stated that, “I don’t know any woman who has gone to the highest level and doesn’t want a husband; there are actually a few. But most women pretend until it is too late. If we all agree that we want to be married, why then do you want to do the wrong things to send away your man or disorganize your family. It is just about knowing how to adapt.”

Music/Radio / Diddy Executive Produced ‘twice As Tall’ Album For Free – Burna Boy by RandomAfrican1: 8:24am On Sep 17, 2020

Burna Boy in August let the world in on the fact that hiphop big wig, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was going to be the executive producer for his fifth studio album, Twice As Tall. The 15-track album was released last month, complete with a variety of features from Naughty By Nature, Stormzy, Chris Martin, Sauti Sol and Youssou N’Dour and it has been raking in the numbers.

As the Nigerian Afrobeat icon continues to promote his new album, he sat down with Douglas Jekan for the Nigeria-based PGM Club. During the interview, the Grammy-nominated artist said he hoped partnering with Diddy would “build a solid bridge” between himself and other audiences and went on to reveal that the REVOLT Media & TV chairman executive produced Twice As Tall for no charge.

“I wanted this [album] to build a stronger bridge between, basically, all people of color,” Burna Boy said. “The album was already about 80 percent done before I got Diddy involved. Getting Diddy involved, first of all, me and Diddy are now one bridge. Then, it’s like a tree; it just keeps going.”

Oluwa Burna as he is affectionately called, explained that with the help Diddy rendered, he was able to connect with certain top notch producers and collaborators — including Naughty By Nature and Timbaland — for the project.

“That’s the bridge… and it goes far beyond that… because guess what Diddy didn’t take no money from me,” he continued. “He gets two points royalties, which he gives back to me,” he added.

“The only thing that’s changed is now everybody sees what’s been going on. I’ve been this person. If I win a Grammy for this album, it’s because it’s a great album, just like the last one.”

Whiles speaking with The New York Times a couple of weeks ago, Diddy called Burna “a revolutionary.”

“The thing that I learned about him is the importance of what he’s doing for his nation and representing the people that aren’t really heard globally,” said the music mogul. “Through this album, I think it’s important for Africa to be heard. And so it’s bigger than just an album.”

Foreign Affairs / Rawlings Receives New Malian Military Leaders In His Home In Ghana by RandomAfrican1: 7:20am On Sep 17, 2020

A Former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings, who handed over to another civilian government in year 2001 after ruling the country for almost 20 years (both as a military head of state and then as a civilian president), has admonished the new rulers in Mali to use the transition period to exhibit exceptional leadership for the country and see to it that it becomes the beginning of a prosperous period for the people.

The former President made the statement when he was called upon in his home in Accra, Ghana by a four-man delegation of the National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP) led by its Chairman, Colonel Assimi Goïta on Tuesday.

Rawlings asked the current leaders in Mali to mobilise their people into taking up productive activity through a positive vision to propel the country’s development.

He told them that there is the need to empower and encourage Malian citizens to own their political climate and to improve on the quality of multiparty democracy that Western powers “have hung around our necks.”

“The level of corruption that has become an integral part of multiparty democracy has created a general climate of stress and tension that may destabilize some areas in our region.

It is unfortunate that the world is being forced into multiparty democracy with corruption and violence rather than other forms of democratic practices with none or minimal corruption.

Unfortunately, the West appears to favour corruptible political tendencies in order to continue to dominate our security and economy,” the former President stated.

The former Ghanaian leader went on to advise the Malian transitional unit to consistently ensure that they govern with humility and diligence and whiles remaining an inspiration to the people to fight and defy corruption and injustice.

Rawlings made it known that he even though he was dutifully passing on ECOWAS leadership’s concerns (as should be the norm) he also believed in the need to share his own political experiences and observations with visitors as he had had similar experiences in his life time.

The meeting between Mr. Rawlings and the Malian leadership took place after ECOWAS leaders held an Extraordinary meeting with the Malian leadership at Peduase in Ghana, to discuss political recent developments in Mali.

Colonel Assimi Goïta was accompanied by Colonel Ismaël Wagué, Major Talibe Konte and Captain Demba N’daw. Also present was the Malian Ambassador to Ghana, Abdoul Kader Toure.
