Rano I don't blame you my brother; A wife's cooking should taste more palatable than any mama put canteen meals no matter how many G-strings mama-put washes into the pot of soup (na so I hear o)   lipsrsealed  cool
Ooh my sista, so u sef know what i mean, and why som mothers are not happy about their children eatin outside.

chaircover:
To a certain degree I blame both of them. The husband for not making sure that he was comfortable with his wives cooking skills before he put the ring on the finger and the wife for not taking on board her inadequacies in her cooking skills and doing something about it long before now.
Exactly my sista, that's where i'm also blamin the OP (but i guess he was then carried away durin the relationship with the well curved shape and the bed skills that his wife introduces durin indicency fun, u know what i mean? wink

chaircover:
I am not being funny but realistically how many common foods do we have; it is either rice, beans, yam or swallow. There is really no excuse for poor cooking skills.
God bless you on this. kiss

Unless a man is not of same tribe with his wife that's where cases like this may occur (interms of cookin the mans native soup). But if the wife is of same tribe with the husband, what excuss has she to give for her not knowin how to cook? '98 when i was stayin with my uncle at ketu (then) he taught me how to prepare Rice, Beans and plantain, Yam, Egusi and Ogbono soup (but tho, i'v forgotten how to cook them now b'cos it's been long), why? b'cos, a boy like me won't be in his house and he'll be the one cookin for me. That was how i learnt how to cook (then). What was she (the OP's wife) doin all thru her shakara age? Sisi eko abi? undecided. . .Mstcheeew !!! angry

@Ranoscky you are spending a lot of time on this thread and I can tell that you loooooooveee your food. Nothing do you brother grin grin grin
grin grin grin grin grin. . .I truely love my food my sista, i no go lie !!! grin

But it's funny how some gurls are defendin the OP's wife when they, and (i believe even YOU yourself) knows that if we'r to state some, or let me say 3 good reasons why a man needs a wife, if COOKIN is not the first reason, it'll DEFFINATELY be the second reason. It can NEVER be the 3rd b'cos, anythin from 3rd upward is addition that the husband can do it himself and would not complain if the wife is not capable of. Now, som mothers are not happy when their children do enjoy the food they eat outside (i.e like neighbours food or mama put {a local restaurant}) more than the one their mother prepared (and that does make them eat less at home). If it were your children, would you be happy for that? (i absolutely believe you will say NO!) So, this case of the OP will deffinately lead to such if proper caution is not takin, or, if takin litely. And since the husband is not comfortable with the taste of his wife's food, how are we sure his children do?

Ivynwa:
@Poster
One thing about cooking is that we all use different methods that we learnt from our different parents/wards and the end result may end up not appealing to another who is used to a different method of cooking so on that note you can't really say that your wife is a lousy cook. Save her that careless word, her way of cooking simply does not appeal to you. While growing up I have seen mothers/neighbours cooking stuffs in ways different from what I am used to and even if that does not appeal to me, I won't conclude that they are lousy cooks. On browsing through the food section here in Nl I noticed that some of us cook different stuffs differently that does not make some of those bad cooks. That is what they learnt and know which is why telling her MIL may not solve the matter as she may just be using her mama's method which is different from what you are used to.
Note that you don't ever tell a woman that she can't cook (just like you don't tell a woman that she is ugly) it will hit her dignity real bad. Be diplomatic and mildly tell her that there's a way to make so and so and you enjoy it better. You can tactfully persuade her to exchange recipes with your sister/mother (whose cooking you are used to).
It was nice of most of us advising that you send wify to catering school, that is good but wetin dey for sokoto dey here in Nairaland. A wealth of knowledge abounds here in Nairaland and we can equally tap into it, you can find a way to attract her to the food section where she can exchange recipes with people and get creative with food.
Food is an art just like designing cloth, you only have to use the abundant foodstuffs that nature gave us creatively and come out with great dishes. Don't be surprised that your wife can create something nobody has ever cooked that can blow your mind and taste buds away. You can send some great recipe links(like the ones I attached below)

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-25475.0.html
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-451442.0.html
https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-539350.32.html

from Nairaland to her email and tactfully say "Sweetheart, I read these and I can't wait for us to try them out". I bet she will not refuse trying out what you like. We all can learn from ourselves just like she can learn from a catering school too. You can also attract her to websites with great recipes like the website of such companies like Kraft Foods (www.kraftrecipes.com), www.allrecipes.com etc. These are catering schools that are already right in your room and at the pressing of your keyboards.

You have to make amends and apologise for talking down on her food so that she can get her dignity back enough to co-operate for you two to go on a journey discovering great dishes. You can equally learn some while you are at it so that you can let her hang up her feets and give her a treat on days that she is too tired to give you one.
One good, classic and intelligent idea !!!

I don laff from sunrise to sunset, some comments for hia don kill me !!! grin

Well, if it ever happens to me, i don't think i'll retaliate, NEVER!! And with my kind of person, i stil don't think my heart would be strong enough to ask her to leave my house, no matter what time of the day it is, (be it nite time or day).

If it happens at nite time, the best and only thing i'll do is (if my kids were at the scene), i'll just take them straight to the room, bolt the door and that is it for the nite. Then, the next day (if she slept over at my house), after i finish preparin to go out, if see her, i'll greet her "Good mornin", YES, I WILL !!! But i believe that "Good mornin" will be the last conversation and the last time both of us we'll see eachother forever.

If it happens durin day time (stil, i will NEVER retaliate), all i'll do is leave the house with my kids straight to my parents house. After she leaves, when i com back to my house, the FIRST THING i'll do is sit my wife down and tell her: "I DON'T WANT YOU TO RAISE ANY TOPIC PERTAININ YOUR MOM IN THESE HOUSE ANYMORE. IF YOU CAN'T ABIDE WITH THAT, PLS, THE DOOR IS OPEN FOR, YOU CAN ASWELL LEAVE THESE HOUSE IN PEACE"!!! And i must make sure she gives me an answer (maybe yes or no) before we start lovin eachother again for the sake of my children abeg, for i love my children more than my wife, YES, I SAID IT !!!

Reading the replies got me amused, i first tot it was my hubbby that started the thread,

I think its one of the most difficult things my hubby told me. He chose a crisp monday morning to tell me, i actually cried all day at work.

Alot of tots though,,i have house guests, everyone licks their plates, but my choosy hubby complains(he even complains about his mamas own food, hes actually hard to please food wise)
Well i am in this for him so hes the ultimate.
Anyway i had to talk to myself as criticism is not easy to take, have enroled in a catering school ,telling me self that there is always room for improvement and i will only come out better.

The first thing is for her to acept the challenge. Also she might be someone that does not pay attention to detail or is careless, because when i put my mind to it and learn from experience it actually comes out better. Its not easy, Goodluck.
Sister, God bless u jare. And i pray you'll come out berra and best !!!

No doubt, all the ladies insupport of the OP's wife is b'cos, they themselves don't know how to cook, YES! And for the guys, it's b'cos (maybe) they'r stil single. But if the quote above is comin from a lady (and she even expressed her emotional feelins about it), then it's a BIG shame to all the ladies and the men supportin the OP's wife (esp the ladies).

FamilyRe: My Wife Is A Lousy Cook by Ranoscky(m): 10:54pm On Nov 03, 2010
Op, you really need help here and i believe some of the comments here would play a bigger role if you apply them to the solutions that you'r also gatherin to see if things can work out for your wifes cookin skills.
So many people have aired their opinion (of which some are also useful), but if you ask me, i don't think enrollin her to a caterin school to upgrade her cookin skills would be the best solution. How do you expect someone that sees nottin wrong in whatever she cooks to go for a cookin course, is that possible? To her, she would see it as an insult and will DEFFINATELY refuse to go. But, well, people are being judged by their behaviour but, somtimes we do change like a Chameleon. You can stil try the caterin enrolment but should incase it doesn't workout, then, my advice to you is to go and talk to her mom and give them somtime to sort things out for themselves as mother and daughter. Then if after long waited and no improvement on her cookin stil, then sit her down and talk to her for the last time to know if she can hear you out. If after all set and done, all what you said to her fell on deaf ears, just be the man that you are, stil keep the love glowin like sunshine and never show your anger towards her about the issue. Just fill your stomach with some good food when comin back from work next time. And when you get home, take shower and have a rest. If she ask you if to bring your food, you tell her that she shouldn't bother that you'r ok, and that you just need some rest to burn out the stress of the day. When you continue like these for somtime, i believe she'll come back to her senses and admit to herself that she's truely the cause of it. That is the only way a man can punish his wife.

Just my take.
